Integration of old Blades into New new Fabric Interconnects

Hi,
I have a task where I am expected to:
* Install Two new 6296 FIs., with two blade chassis and B200M3 Servers. These are all new equipment. All these equipment are at Location On3.
* Add two existing Blade Chassis comprising of B200M2 Servers from Location two into this 6296 setup. These two blade chassis at Location two are presently with their own 6124 FIs. We need to migrate the logical configuration, into the 6296.
* Add two more existing Blade Chassis comprising of B200M2 Servers from Location three into this 6296 setup. These two blade chassis at Location three are presently with their own 6124 FIs. We need to migrate the logical configuration, into the 6296.
* However location two can be thought of as the present Prod environment and Location Three as DR.
We need to have a minimum outage for Prod Site, as they are migrated from their present FIs to the new FIs.
I have been contemplating the below for this migration.
1- Install the new FI and blade chassis along with the Blades.
2- Upgrade the Firmware to the level at Location One as at Location Two ( Location two code upgrade to the latest is complete for both Infra and Blades ).
3- Restore a logical Config Backup from Location three to Location One.
4- Restore a logical Config Backup from Location Two to Location One - I will allow Overwriting as applicable.
Then I plan to tweak the configuration so that they can co-exist, mapping/configuring network and Storage ports.
The new blades will be an extension of the logical setup at Location two, as much as possible.
My questions:
Is this a workable plan ? Meaning, I plan to physically move Location two and Location three equipment only upon restoring of the Logical Config Backups.  Are there any gaps that I hadn't discovered ? Any advice on this is much appreciated.
Note I have intentionally overlooked the option of upgrading the location Two, 6124s 6296, for there is a physical movement involved for those blades.
Thanks in Advance

So, are you trying to integrate location 2 & 3 into a common location?  yes, a common new location, referred as location 1.
Are locations 2 &3 running the same firmware level and are the new Fabrics already upgraded to the same firmware level of the 6120's currently working? Yes.
If there is a third location where locations 2 & 3 will be integrated, is that location in the same data center/POD or the new location also involves moving to another physical location? No, it is a physically different data center
Are you using UCS Central? No

  • How do I import old photos into new iPhoto library?

I have a new macbook pro running iphoto 11.  I am trying to import my photos onto the new computer from my old computer, running iphoto 8.  I mounted the old computer as a hard disk, but when I go to import the photos into new iphoto library on the new computer, the old iphoto library is "grayed" out under the users/pictures/iphoto location.
How do I transfer the photos?

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • Can I put the Hard Drive from old iBook into new iBook?

    I need a new motherboard for my old iBook which has no other damage. New motherboard costs about the same as a new iBook;
so can I have the drive from the old iBook put into a new iBook? Old iBook is about 2 years old.
    Thanks!

Gareth; there are no iBooks with Intel processors. These are MacBooks.
As for your question, it's unlikely that you could, as the new Macs appear to have different firmware on the drives. It would also invalidate the warranty on a new computer.
Far easier to put the old drive into an external FW or USB enclosure and use it to transfer your files, applications and settings during first boot of the new Mac using the Setup Assistant.

  • Ok to put old HD into 'new' computer?

Just got a MacbookPro early 2011 Intel Core i5 with Yosemite and only 320 GB HD. My old MacbookPro early 2006 Intel Core Duo (grafic card died) has a 500 GB HD with OS Snowleopard and a ton of software which I don"t won"t to upgrade right now (eg. FC 6, working on big project). From what I understand the 'new' Mac can run OS Snowleopard. I'm planing on putting the old HD into the new Mac...... is there any reason I shouldn't or be cautious about this.
    Thanks so much....

The early 2011 model originally came with Snow Leopard and your older drive should work fine in the 2011 IF it is updated to 10.6.8. All your Apps should work without problem, no need to reinstall any of them.
The best thing to do once the 500GB drive is installed, and if it boots up fine, is to re-apply the 10.6.8 update that can be downloaded from the Apple download site and put on a USB stick. Then run from that USB stick at first boot of the 2011 model. That will insure all the proper drivers are installed for the updated hardware in the 2011 model.
Not sure what the other poster is talking about. All features, functions, hardware included in the 2011 model will work just fine with Snow Leopard 10.6.8. No need to upgrade to Lion and I wouldn't if you are still using older apps that need Rosetta. No Rosetta in Lion and so you couldn't use those older apps.

  • Inserting old swf into new fla with different frame rate

Hi, I'm trying to insert an old banner ad into a new Flash site.  The problem is, the banner I made at 20 frames per second, and the Flash site is set to 41, so it literally plays the banner twice as fast.  Any ideas as to what I can do about this?  Thank you.

A few of them I may have the original source files on disk.  Do you know what's the easiest way to transpose them to the higher frame rate?
For the ones I don't have, I should open the swf file in the new site and add a frame between each already existing frame?
Yes I imported the swf, I'm kind of just finding my way around Flash and I don't know how to load them dynamically.  If I did load them dynamically, would they play at their original frame rate?

  • Old Macbook Died, trying to put old SSD into new Macbook, not working.

I had an old 07 model 17in Macbook pro with a 250g SSD in it. The old macbook finally died so I bought a used 2011 model 17in Macbook Pro that comes with a 500g spinning hard drive.
I would like to move the SSD from my old Macbook(complete dead) into my new Macbook, but apparently it's not as simple as remove and install. The new Macbook will not boot from my old SSD drive once I put it in. The old SSD was running Mavericks and with data on it which I would like to keep. Any suggestions?

Hello babyharpseal and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
"move the SSD from my old Macbook(complete dead)"
So you're sure that SSD is working properly? What happened to your '07? and did you keep your Mavericks Installer?
    If so:
Update your 2011 to the latest version of Mavericks and place your SSD in an external and do this:
Move your data to a new Mac - Apple Support
Then insure that your internal is bootable and reinstall Mavericks on your SSD.
    http://macs.about.com/od/Mavericks/ss/How-To-Perform-A-Clean-Install-Of-Os-X-Mav ericks-On-A-Macs-Startup-Drive.htm
This will be a clean install and all data will be erased.
"The OS X Mavericks Installer, available from the (Apple Store)"
    No longer true.
Apple will want you to update to Yosemite but I'm currently not recommending that.

  • Can't import old folders into new iTunes on new computer

    Morning, all -
I got a new computer and restored all my old folders on it, music included.
When I downloaded iTunes again, I was surprised to find that a) it didn't just import my old music files, and b) I'm unable to do so even manually.
I've tried dragging and dropping the music folders - individually and as a group - into the new iTunes folder (iTunes Media now instead of iTunes Music), dragging folders directly into the iTunes window, and importing folders through the menu bar. None of the options work. I don't get an error message, it just sits there and doesn't do anything (which is even worse than getting an error message, which I could at least then track down to resolve).
It's getting frustrating - it's proving to be a lot less user-friendly than it should be, and for what I would think is a relatively common situation.
Any insight on getting this thing going would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks, Chris -
The problem here was that while I'd thought my entire music collection was stored by an online backup service prior to wiping my harddrvie, it turns out that such ISN'T the case. Hence, all the music's gone. So when I did the restore of all the data from the service, then fired up iTunes, while all the music SHOULD'VE been put back in its original filing system (and so, migrated to the new iTunes folders cleanly), that didn't happen. Took me a couple of days of frustration before realizing that while the folder/file structure of all the music was retained, the music itself wasn't. Hence the lack of initial migration, and the reluctance to import any folders manually; the cupboard was bare.
All of this, however, has led to yet another problem. It's related, but a different topic, so I'll start a new thread on it...
    Thanks again.

  • New computer, how do i get all the music from old computer into new itunes?

subject said it all. how do i get the music from my old computer and my ipod into the new itunes account on my new computer. i'm stinkin confused.

Easiest way is to copy the entire iTunes folder onto an external hard drive and then copy it onto the new computer. Google your query. Lots of step by step instructions out there

If you want to change your login name use System Preferences > Users & Groups, and change your "full name" to whatever you want.

  • Moving old backups into new air capsule

is it possible to set up an air capsule to inherit the backups that time machine made on an external USB hard drive? I'd hate to lose all the backups i have since 2011. Thanks

The problem here is that Time Machine stores backups differently on an external hard drive compared to a network drive like the Time Capsule. You will not be able to combine the backup files into a single file.
Life will be tons easier if you simply start new backups on the Time Capsule and keep the USB drive around for another 5-6 months until you have some backup history on the Time Capsule.
If you find that you don't really need to go back and look at backups that were made two years ago, you might want to consider erasing the USB drive at some point and using it as a general purpose drive....or a second Time Machine backup drive.
In other words, have Time Machine backup to both the Time Capsule and hard drive. The application will automatically alternate backups between the Time Capsule and hard drive. When....not if...one drive fails, you will have a solid backup history on the "other" drive.

  • Mail inserts old messages into new ones

So I have been getting emails from people, everything from the sender to the subject line is right but then instead of getting that message, an old message from that inbox is put in its place and its very confusing. Then my phone decides that all the 2000 messages in that inbox on the server are new messages and tries to download them all at once to my phone.
Anyone have any ideas of how to stop this? I have a feeling its something to do with my email provider.
