Integration of Panther Mail With Tiger Mail

After having several problems with Tiger when it first came out, I returned to Panther for the last several months. I wanted to give Tiger another whirl, so I reinstalled (erase and install) it on a second partition a couple of weeks ago. One problem that appeared immediately was that all my messages in Mail did not migrate over. I'm using the same user account, so I don't understand why all my messages did not migrate over properly. It appears that all recent messages appeared (probably because they were still on the email server). Some old messages from the last 3-5 years came through, but it seems that most of my older messages didn't.
I have one partition (Secondary) with Panther on it. I erased and installed Tiger on another partition (Primary). During the migration process when I first started up after installing Tiger, it asks you what items you want to migrate. I checked every box (can't recall specifically what they were). I believe the purpose of the migration process is to get you back up and running with the least amount of fuss when upgrading the system. In this case, it appears that every user defined setting/preference migrated OK with the exception of all my Mail messages (the mailboxes migrated successfully but not the messages themselves).
If I boot back up in Panther, all my older messages are still intact. So I'm confused why all my messages didn't migrate over since they are in my User's Library folder and should be essentially identical to how Mail appeared/acted in Panther (except I'm using a new version of Mail in an upgraded System). And despite the exact reason WHY this happened (helpful in preventing this from happening during my next upgrade), the more important queston is how do I get all my messages to appear in Tiger Mail (so that I can leave Panther behind permanently)? Obviously they are on my hard disk somewhere if Panther Mail can read them when starting up in Panther.

What does "I returned to Panther" mean here? What exactly did you do to "return to Panther" the first time you tried Tiger?

Yesterday, when I brought my laptop back from sleep, I tried to check my e-mail with the Mail app like I always do. But there was the lightning bolt sign next to the inbox, and the pop-up asked me to input my password, which didn't work. It says mail.mac.com has rejected my password. The password is correct (I'm able to check my e-mail through my browser at me.com), but for some reason Mail keeps on rejecting it. I usually don't have to input my password at all in Mail. Any clue how to fix this? I haven't changed anything at all on my laptop.

I did change my apple ID password though...

  • Can I manualy transfer emails from Panther Mail to Tiger Mail ?

Hi I'd like to grab my previous emails that were in a Panther iBook !
I made a backup from my old iBook (before selling it) of the "Mailboxes" folder, and all the "POP-user@domain" folders. With everything inside.
I copied manually all the "*.boxes", except for the "Outbox.mbox" from the old the "Mailboxes" folder to the new "/Home/Library/Mail/Mailboxes" folder.
I get the mailboxes but can not retrieve the old emails. They are all empty.
Can anyone tell me if I'm missing something.
I did this cause I sold that iBook 6 month ago. Thanks !
Mac Mini Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   BootCamp (Windows XP SP2)

Tiger Mail uses a different mbox filing format than previous Mail.app versions and I don't believe a manual transfer will work.
Try using the Import Mailboxes feature instead choosing "Other" instead of Mail for OS X.

  • Mammoth printing snafu with Tiger Mail Program/OS 10.4.4

Problem: My HP 2250tn Inkjet printer--which is connected to my G4 computer through AppleTalk--is unable to print...
    DRUMROLL, PLEASE...
*99.9 percent* of my text-only email messages, whether they're incoming, outgoing, or in the drafts or sent folder. By contrast, that same printer has no problem printing Microsoft Word documents, Quicken reports or Stickies.
Taking the following actions has not solved my printing problem: (1) installed the latest printer driver; (2) reinstalled the HP software: (3) completed HP's printing set-up assistant program; (3) copied and pasted the text from one of my email messages into a Microsoft Word document to see if my printer was able to print from Microsoft Word, and, sure enough, the document printed without a hitch...proof positive that the driver's working properly and is not locked up.
Additional insight, FWIW: Just got off the phone with a technical expert from the Macintosh group for Business Inkjets at HP, and he said it's not HP's problem. He said I can't print any email messages from my HP 2250tn Inkjet printer because "Tiger's email program is not sending data to the printer, even though the driver is still accepting jobs and sending jobs."
In short, the printer driver goes through all the correct handshaking protocols--e.g., "Starting Job," "Sending Data," "Printing"--BUT THEN QUICKLY CHANGES TO "No Job printing." In the "Completed Jobs" window, the printer says it's finished printing, even though nothing's printed!!! So I end up having to clear the unprinted jobs that just keep stacking up in the Completed Jobs window. Exasperating? Yes.
It appears this is a problem that only OS 10.4.4/Tiger Mail Program experts can find a work-around for.

Thanks for attempting to shed some light on the situation, but the printer problem hasn't gone away, even after optimizing my hard disk with DiskWarrior and Disk Utility.

  • How do I configure FireFox to send e-mail (with Live Mail)?

I try to send a link through e-mail. I only manage to get Firefox to open Live mail, no e-mail message opened, no link added.
This used to work under XP, now I use Windows7 Professional with the latest Firefox version

Can you check whether your Norton browser add-ons are enabled on the Add-ons page? Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions.
The disabled extensions cluster toward the bottom on a gray background. If they are down there, try to enable them.
If they won't enable, try using Norton LiveUpdate a few times to make sure you have the latest versions. You probably need to close Firefox and start it up again after the LiveUpdate in order for Firefox to detect the new files.
    Any luck?

  • Problem to receive mail with Apple Mail client

Apple Mail cannot receive mail. Mail is sent without any problems. I thought that it may have to do with my iPhone but when it is shut down I still get this error.
The error message that I get is:
    Unable to Receive Mail
The mail server denied access to the account "xxxxxxx" because an administrator or other mail client was using it when Mail tried to log in. Please try again later.
The server error encountered was: Unable to lock maildrop: Mailbox is locked by POP server.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed?

I determined the problem had to do with other computers configured with POP (same account) locking the mailbox. Moral of the story is to just have one computer configured with POP and all the rest with IMAP.

  • Send html mail with apple mail

I used to send a html newsletter with apple mail. I opened the html file in safari pressed cmd + i and a html mail was created. On Yosemite there seems to be a bug with this feature. After pressing cmd + i it creates a mail and html website is selected in this mail, but the mail body is empty. Now I have no ideo how to send the newsletter. Apple mail was the only way to achive a correctly displayed newsletter on most common mail clients.
Does anyone have the same problem or a solution?

Seems to be a bug in Safari under Yosemite. Occurs only with HTML pages which are stored locally on the Mac and then opened with Safari.
Two options for a work around:
    (1)
When Apple Mail shows a blank page, choose PDF instead of WEB PAGE in the mail header.
Thereafter, the contents will appear as a PDF attachment.
    (2)
Publish the HTML page. Surf with Safari to the published page. Use the command "File : Send : Email this page".
    Now it should work.

  • Sync online iCloud mail with my Mail?

    Hello,
I would like to know if it's possible to sync my online iCloud Mail, with my iMac Mail. (OS 10.6.8)  I'm sensing i cannot do that until i upgrade?
My second question is how can i sync my Mail, Contacts, and Calendars from iCloud to my iPhone (iOS5.1.1)
Thank you for all and any help!
    Lori.

If you can't get your mail to work on Snow Leopard after June 30, you might want to try one of these approaches
    1. Configuring Mail in Snow Leopard
    2. Delete your mail account from Mail preferences and set it up again using the Mail Server Information.
Some users have apparently encountered issues using this information in pre-Lion set ups (I haven't), Roger Wilmut has kindly provided instructions for those who find themselves with this problem.

  • Can not send mail with mac mail

I see several other people are having a problem with outgoing mail using different servers. Mine was working until today and now get error message that it is trying to use smtp.mac instead of .comast as it is set up to do. This makes me think it has to be mac mail program that is the problem. Have tried changing out going server port to 587 to no avail. What next?

This is most unlikely to have anything to do with the application, and reloading software will not fix, unless in the process you happen to change what probably needs to change.
In Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information/Outgoing Server settings, remove all existing SMTP references, and re-enter the Comcast one, only, if that is what you wish to do. However, is it possible that something is amiss with the Comcast SMTP, and Mail is simply trying to use the smtp.mac.com as a fall back? Do you have any evidence that the Comcast SMTP is working?
    More info, please.

  • Cannot send mail with mobile mail software

I have been trying to send mail with my mobile mail software on my AOL account and my mail won't got through,  But when I click on my mobile web and access my AOL email that way it allows me to send mail with no problem. The problem started today, I have an lg env3 and the latest software version of the mobile mail.

From working with other customers, the best thing to do would be to remove the email account entirely from the Mobile Email program and re-add it.  If the issue persists, remove the Mobile Email application altogether and redownload it.  If it still persists even after that and all other data services are working such as the browser, My Verizon, etc. call AOL Mobile Support at 866-265-3019.
I hope this helps you.  Let us know if it did.

  • Mac mail with website mail outgoing servers

I have set up mac mail with my website email. This is hosted by 123-reg.co.uk. I have set up all the account on mac mail, and have sent an email TO the website mail address from another of my emails, which works fine. However when I try to send outgoing mail it does not connect tot the outgoing mail server.
I have contacted 123-reg who have gone through all the settings with me and have confirmed that it is set up for normal mac mail settings. They suggested then that it something to do with mac mail blocking the port. Could you tell me how to sort this.

Port 110 is strictly for incoming servers using POP3 -- has nothing to do with the SMTP. For that, click on the arrows beside the name of the SMTP, and choose Edit Server List. The report of Connection Doctor means you should be on Port 25, most likely, and Authentication should be set to None.
Try choosing Use Custom Port in the Advanced tab of the window for the SMTP settings, and enter Port 25, but nothing for Authentication or Password. You were probably selected to Use Default Ports, and there was a hitch with Port 25, and Mail tried to use another port -- maybe.

  • Snow Leopard Mail Backwards Compatible with Tiger Mail?

I need to revert fro working on a MPB Late 2010 running 10.6.3 to a PowerBook G4 running Tiger 10.4.11.
Can I do a Mail backup in Osx 10.6.3 on the MBP and then copy that backup to my PBG4 with Osx 10.4.11 and then open all the mailboxes in the older version of Mail?
    This is why: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2527206&tstart=0
    Hope the question makes sense.

I don't believe that this is possible. I seem to recall that Mail had to update the file formats (which ones? I dunno) when I upgraded to SL, so I imagine Tiger won't recognize them fully.

  • Can't sync mail with Yahoo mail

I want to transfer my Yahoo contacts to Apple's mail program. I checked "synchronize with Yahoo" in my Address Book Preferences. I also went to Isync preferences and checked all there, including "enable syncing on my computer." The next thing I'm supposed to do is hit the "Sync now" button from pull down preferences but I don't have a Sync Now button. I don't want to select devices because I don't want to sync a device. Basically, I can't figure out how to get the Isync program to sync now.

iSync itself is only for syncing Contacts and Calendars to non-Apple mobile phones via a USB or Bluetooth connection. However the iSync application does provide access to a couple of settings that affect system-wide syncing.
To turn on the Sync menu, open iSync's Preferences, and then check the *Show status in menu bar* option

  • Connecting Macbook Pro mail with Icloud mail

I can't get my new macbook pro email to connect with my icloud email. I need to know the correct smtp server name and have no clue how to find it. I have already enabled icloud on the computer and click mail. It would automatically configure for some reason.

You don't, and can't, configure iCloud mail settings manually. Check the Mail box in the iCloud preference pane.
