Integration Services OLAP Model Upgrade

Hi,
We have installed EIS 716 on new server and needs to upgrade it. i have followed this approach until now..
Suppose i have catalog as "catalog1" getting connected with "A" on old box 7.1.2.
Now we got this "A" schema copied into new server from backend and am trying to upgrade the catalog from IS console with name as "catalog2" and getting connected with "B". so we will be able to see all the Models and MOTL's..
Here is my question, like when we upgrade the OLAP Metadata Catalog it upgrades the Models and MOTL's in it or we need to do a separate upgrade for these.I assume the Models and MOTL's reside in the catalog itself.
Further what i have noticed is that, when we get connected into new catalog on new server with "catalog2" and export one model or MOTL using XML import/export option..it is showing with old schema names like "A" and version 7.1.2.
Will it show the old version only and not with 7.1.6 and upgrade schema "B"?
Is this the correct way to upgrade EIS or do we need to export each and every model & MOTL and upgrade with the schema name like "B".?
Can anyone help me on this issue elaborately as i was into issues here..
Your help is very much appreciated
Thanks

EIS will automatically upgrade you new catalog the first time you connect to it. Don't worry about the version indicated in the XML files. The important thing is that the binaries have been updated.

  • Updating Hyper-V host Integration Service

It seems that I'd get rid of this error log if I uninstall and reinstall the Integration Services from the windows 8.1 that I am running on Hyper-V 2008 R2.
I was wondering though, whether there is a procedure to do it other way around; I mean instead of removing the version 3.3 that came bundled with 8.1 image and downgrading to 3.0 ; upgrade the Hyper-V 2008 R2 to accept 3.3 integration service.

  • [Forum FAQ] How to upgrade the Linux Integration Service

    Symptom
When you move a Linux guest virtual machine from the legacy system to Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V host, you may face the incompatibility issues. The most common problems are that the mouse pointer maybe a little inaccuracies, the guest VM cannot use the
    dynamic memory.
    Cause
The cause may be that the integration service not compatible with the Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V host.
    Solution
We need to upgrade the integration service to at least version 3.5.
In this demo, we use the CentOS 5.8_x86_x64.
You can refer to the following steps to perform the upgrading.
    1. Before install the Integration service you can use the following command to check the version of the installed Integration service. (Figure 1)
    #su root
    #/sbin/modinfo hv_vmbus
Figure 1: check the version of the installed Integration service
    2. Download the Integration Service 3.5 image from here.
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=41554
    3. Insert the Integration Service 3.5 image.
    a. Open Hyper-V Linux guest VM console.
    b. Click-> Media->DVD Drive-> Specific the Integration service image location, insert Disk.
    4. Mount the image.
If automount is enable, the Integration service image will be mounted automatically. If not, please use the following command to mount the image. (Figure 2)
    #mount /dev/cdrom /media
    Figure 2: Mount the image
After that, we can see the image content. (Figure 3)
    Figure 3: Imange content
    5. Upgrade the integration service.
Use the following command locate to the current Linux Distribution Directory. In this example, we select the RHEL58. (Figure 4)
    #cd RHEL58
    #./upgraee.sh
Figure 4: Locate the Linux Distribution Directory
When you see the message, "Linux Integration Service for Hyper-V has been upgraded. Please reboot your system", it means the upgrading is finished.
    6. Reboot your Linux system. (Figure 5)
    Figure 5: Reboot the system
    7. Confirm the upgrading.
After Linux boots up, use the following command to check if the upgrading is succeed. (Figure 6)
    #/sbin/modinfo hv_vmbus
    Figure 6: Verify the upgrading.

  • Integration Service Upgrade of 2012R2 breaks Windows 2012 VM

    Hi,
we have setup a new server with Windows 2012 R2 and migrated our VM's over to it.
OS within the VM's are Windows 2008 Server, Windows 7 and Windows 2012.
Everything works fine. Integration Service Update was needed and I could install it on all VM's, except one, that also runs Exchange 2013 on a Windows 2012.
Once I install the Update of the Integration Service, the VM acts weird. It takes about 30 minutes until I could log in. (Probably network problem after the udpate). Once logged in, if I switch to desktop view, the task bar doesn't show items other than
the clock, clicking it results in the question, if I want to end a hanging process no matter if I say yes/no no luck. Server Manager opens (very slow), but it doesn't load data (wanted to check nic).
CMD with ipconfig doesn't show a network adapter, just the tunneling-peudo-interface.
Load of the server doesn't show high CPU or Memory consumption, nor high disk i/o. Using Alt/TAB it shows a window called "Immersive Background" (tried to translate to english).
    Starting the network manager via
    control.exe /name Microsoft.NetworkAndSharingCenter
doesn't open it either. But I can open like Resourcemonitor, Powershell and quite some other programs.
So something is failing here after the update.
Does Exchange and the new Integration Service break each other?
I rolled back VM to an older snapshot and tried the same thing again, same result. On our Replication host, I did a Testfailover, with no network connectivity, everything fine, again, until new Integration service are installed/updated, the host seems broken.
So I have no clue what's happening here or where to start to search. The main problem is, that backups have to be done offline and not online until new integration services are up and running.
Any guess what to try or what breaks the new integration services? Or is it really in conjunction with Exchange?
We didn't upgrade the VM to 2012R2, just the root node.
    Thanks
    Patrick

    Patrick N. _Futureweb OG,
Please use the following PowerShell to confirm your guest vm integration service has updated successfully, if not try to reinstall the IC.
    Get-VM | ft Name, IntegrationServicesVersion
      2. Please confirm your exchange vm the following service is running.
      3. Please confirm your SYSTEM account have write permission on the following registry,
            HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Svchost
              If not
please add full permission on it.
      4. In exchange vm the

  • Cannot upgrade Integration services on Windows Server 2003 VMs to 6.2.9200.16433

    Hello.
I wonder if anyone can help me. I have a 2012 server (not R2) running Hyper-V. There are 4 VMs on the host, 2 are Server 2008 and 2 are Server 2003 (SP2). The Best Practices Analyzer tells me that dynamic memory is not running correctly as there is a mismatch
in the versions of Integrated Services on the VMs. Looking into this (I am new to this setup) I found that both the 2008 machines have IS versions 6.2.9200.16433 and both the 2003 VMs are still on 6.2.9200.16384.
I tried to update the 2003 VMs by extracting the GuestVMs.iso content to a shared folder and installing on the VMs but all I get is a message saying 'this computer is already running the current version of integration services' with 6.2.9200.16384. Which
isn't the latest version. I did the same thing on a totally seperate server with 2012 VMs and it updated Integration Services so I know the procedure (and the .iso content) is valid.
Is it just the case that Server 2003 cannot handle any IS version higher than 16384? If so I wish I could find somewhere that says that! Or is there something else I can try?
    All suggestions gratefully received!
    Paul

  • Chinese Character  Problem in Essbase Integration Service & Oracle9i

I installed oracle9i on windows2000,which character set is SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.zhs16cgb231280. And I installed Essbase Integration Service 6.5.4 on HP-UNIX server. I designed an OLAP Model in Integration Services Console and I defined some dimensions name using chinese characters. When I saved the model, the chinese characters I inputed is saved as some question marks(?) in the tables in oracle 9i. After I loaded the dimension data which include the chinese charaters, the dimension data which is chinese characters also displayed question marks in the EIS console. I have added the variable NLS_LANG="SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.zhs16cgb231280" in the .profile, but it did not work either. How can I solve this problem? Can I do any configuration on EIS files to solve this problem? Would you please help me? Thank you very much!

  • Load hierarchical attribute dimensions with Integration Services?

    Hi everybody,
I need to load product dimension which is organized in a relational table like this:
    Product (parent_code, member_code, member_alias, brand, consolidation, formula)
Every product has a brand and I need to load brand as attribute dimension. The thing is Brand is not flat but it has it's own hierarchy. For Brand I have another relational table where data is organized parent-child like this:
    Brand (brand_parent_code, brand_child_code, brand_child_alias).
I have used in the past Integration Services but with flat attribute dimensions.
Can I load hierarchical attribute dimensions with Integration Services? If yes, how do I do it, how do I specify the hierarchy?
    Thank you,
    Daniela

    Graham,
This is definitely a supported feature in EIS/9.3.1/ASO. I have many models with this type of structure. How you set it up can vary. Usually my Attribute Hierarchies are not that deep, only two to three levels, maybe four in a rare case, so I don't usually use a parent child table to set up the hierarchy (I'm not saying that it won't work, it might, I haven't tried, but same steps should apply). In a typical model I will have my stock table which has a buyer field. Then in another table I will have my attribute structure which will have columns for buyer, teams, and categories.
In EIS OLAP model, you add your attribute hierarchy table and use a join to link it to the main stock table, joining on the buyer field (you are now going from a "star" schema to a "snowflake". Go into the properties and make sure you define all the columns as "Attributes".
Then in Metadata model, drag your categories attribute onto the outline, then drag the teams and set it as a child of categories and finally drag buyer and set as child of teams. You only set the attribute association for the buyer back to the base dimension.
When you run your dim build it will set up your attribute dimension correctly.
Some things to keep in mind, make sure you have a process that ensures for every stock code you have in the main table, you have a matching one in your attribute dim table.
Sometimes, depending on how much manipulation I need to do, instead of joining the tables in EIS I will go back to relational source and create a view that joins the two tables together, then in my OLAP model, I have one table that has three attribute columns, one column for the buyer and then the other two for team and category, from that point setting up in metadata model is the same.
Good luck, let me know if you run into trouble.

  • Attribute Dimensions with Integration Services

Good evening, I'm creating an ASO Essbase model through Integration Services v9.3.1 and I am having difficulties with creating an Attribute dimension that contains a hierarchy.
We have a list of stock codes which are grouped by vendor in a dimension, each stock code has an attribute assigned to it for the buyer responsible.
The business requirement is to start from the top level of the attribute dimension, drill in to categories, then to drill in to teams, and finally to the buyer... so we effectively require 3 levels within the attribute dimension.
I have successfully created both the vendor (physical) and buyer (attribute) dimensions through EIS without problems, but when I load to Essbase all of the buyers are added at the top level of the dimension and I can't seem to specify that there should be a parent/child hierarchy to build the attribute dimension from.
Is this possible, and if so any advice you can give as to how I achieve this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Graham

  • Hyperion OLAP model vs. Oracle OLAP

Hi, I have a question re: how to properly model stuff in Hyperion OLAP. I know the basics of Essbase, but I've never found out how to do this...
In Oracle OLAP, I can define a set of dimensions, and then create cubes that use any subset of those dimensions.
In Essbase, if I define a set of dimensions, there is only one cube - and it is forced to share ALL of the dimensions.
So I'm always at a loss how to model something that would be pretty simple in Oracle OLAP, like:
Sales cube - dimensioned by time, store, product, customer
Local tax rate cube - dimensioned by time, store (but not product or customer)
Sales goal cube - dimensioned by time, store, product (but not customer)
    etc.
What's the best way to handle this in Essbase?
p.s. after these cubes are done, I'll also want to do some formulas like local taxes = sales cube * local tax rate, etc.
    Thx,
    Scott

Essbase basically has two different design approaches. One you build a cube via Admin services and or load rules, the other is via Integration Services. When using Integration Services, it fits the more traditional build methodology you are familiar with. Via Integration Services you would define a star schema with a fact table and dimensions. You would then build a meta-outline layer where you would define how you want the cube to be built. You could "publish" a cube with all dimensions, or you can have multiple versions of your meta-outline, some that use certain dimensions and others that do not. Within that model you could go one step further and apply filters so you could build two cubes with the same dimensions but filter groups of members out of the dimension in one cube that you allows to flow through in the other cube, or maybe only allow it to build down to a certain level. The options get pretty broad. I think EIS will will get you to what you are familiar with and make a lot more sense. Go to the download site and you can download the docs on EIS to start to get a better idea.

  • Create new user for Essbase Integration Services

Hi,I have two users witch creates olap models and metaoutlines. So I would like to create new user at Essbase Integration Services. How to create new user at Essbase Integration Services level? My system:Essbase Server 6.5.1Essbase Integraion Services 6.5.1Essbase Administration Services 6.5.1Thanks,Grofaty

A user at EIS level is actually a user set up on the relational catalog where your olap models/metaoutlines are stored. For instance if you got to the OLAP model properties dialog and the General tab you can see the owner here is the user you use to connect to your catalog. You can also prevent other users from accessing models not owned by them by setting the security option from the drop-down list on this tab.Mark Rixon www.analitica.co.uk

  • Regarding integration services.

    Hi Frnds,
    I have an aurgent issue
Iam new to integration services .Here i have to move the integration services objects from production to test
    I have to move
    1)olap models
    2)Metaoutline
Could you let me know what is the process to move data from one box to another box.
    I have one more doubt
Do we need rule files to build dimensions and load data in to essbase cubes from integration services.
    Thanks,
    KRK.

you would export the models then metaoutlines from the one server, then import the models then metaoutlines into the target server. If you ahve a model or metaoutline with the same name already on the target server, you have to rename or delete them first.

    Hi Shitalkumar,
The issue may occur if Evaluation Edition or CTP Edition of SQL Server was installed earlier on the server, however, the previous instance of SQL Server was not uninstalled completely or upgraded to Business Intelligence Edition successfully. To resolve
the issue, modify the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\110\ConfigurationState registry key value from 1 to 3, and then rerun the Edition Upgrade procedure from the SQL Server install media to upgrade the SQL Server components to the
    licensed edition again.
