Intel 2200BG Wireless problem

I've been doing some maintenance and updating on a friends laptop and just updated a driver from the Intel site for their Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG Wireless adapter.
(Set to channel 2, using WPA-PSK encryption - working fine before the update) After installing it - the wireless won't connect to my Homehub v1 6.2.6.E
The adapter is working fine and seeing various networks with good signal strength. They also have a HH at home, also v1 - I haven't tried that one yet.
My other devices work fine on the wifi. I rebooted both hub and computer. The adapter can see several networks - I tried turning off the windows firewall - that didn't make any difference.
It tries to connect but never acquires a network address. Device manager reports no problems or conflicts. Intel (R) Pro wireless 2200BG Intel - 19.12.2007 9.0.4.39 - w29n515s.dll 9.0.4.95 - netwc32.dll 9.0.4.95 netwr32.dll I've checked the various settings, and tried setting it to connect via 802.11b only instead of g I don't know about the various other settings.
Anyone any ideas? The machine has a non connected ethernet adapter, and a mysterious other adapter Anyone any ideas? Otherwise I have just messed up my friends wireless connection. I'm fairly sure the adapter is working fine, it is just not connecting with the hub which makes me think there are some defaults that have changed. I see a fair bit about these 2200BG Wireless adapters and BT Homehub wifie problems in google - but not sure if it applies as the 2200BG was working before the driver "update".
My broadband secrets and tips

Okay I've given up with the Intel 2200BG- I've jumped through all the hoops I can think of - uninstalled the adapter replaced the original manufacturers old drivers, uninstalled again, updated with Intel drivers from last year, tried on an unencrypted HHub network. Anyone recommend a replacement internal WiFi adapter for the Intel 2200BG Mini PCI to go in a Hi-Grade Green 553 Notebook? I've also tried running the hub and adapter  in the b mode only, with the hub also only running in b mode.
It can detect all the networks and the software all works fine, it it can not connect. No matter WHAT I do.
Must be compatible with Win XP Home, the Hi Grade laptop and the BTHomeHub v1- and come with compatible drivers.
They look to be reasonably priced, and I'd rather get some friendly supportive peer to peer advice here before trusting myself to PCNurld.
If the worst comes to the worst I could always get a usb wifi adapter and forget the internal interface.
Again - thanks for any help

Not all wireless cards can handle packet injection, which will be needed when using the aircrack-ng suite.
    Two things stand out:
It appears that you are using your internal wireless card,(Intel 2200BG chipset) which may not support packet injection. Some chipsets won't work at all, some can be patched.
Simple fix: grab a wireless card (usb) from ebay that is known to work. My favorite is the netgear WG111v2, about $10.00 U.S.
It seems you are connected to the internet:

You don't want to be connected for this.
The best place to start for you would be http://www.aircrack-ng.org/documentation.html
You can check your chipset and find any patches you may need, as well as follow their tutorials.
You tube also has a lot of video tutorials.
    Good luck.
Edit: this may be of interest, note the "mon0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device" errors.

  • No WPA2 encryption option for Intel 2200BG wireless on T42 w XP SP3

Hi, trying to upgrade my wireless network to WPA2 so i can use the higher 802.11n speeds for my new T500 so I want to upgrade my T42 now on WPA to WPA2. (Yes I realize my T42 needs to be turned off from the wireless network before I can get the higher speed for my T500 but I still want to have both machines set up for WPA2 so I don't need to change any options in Acess Connections before using the T500 on wireless.)
On my T42 I have upgraded to the latest Intel PRO/Wireless driver 12.01.1000 dated Jan 5 2009. I have latest Access Connection 5.12. When trying to install Microsoft patch KB893357 it responds that it is no longer needed on latest release (I am on XP SP3.)
Setting my DIR-655 Dlink router to WPA2 only I can access it with my T500  with encryption set in Access Connection to WPA and AES. I can't access the network from my T42 with these settings. (Dropping the router down to WPA and setting encryption on the T42 to WPA and TKIP works.)
What can I do to achieve WPA2 encryption on my T42?

Googling on WPA2 and SP3 there seems to be quite a few people who lost their WPA2 ability as they installed SP3 on XP. Did anybody here find a solution for their WPA2 SP3 problems?

Bookmark this page, its the entry page to the Lenovo support pages for your 2374-Q39. In it you see you have the Intel 2200bg wireless card so this is the correct driver to use.

  • Intel 2200BG NOT Fixed with Drivers!!!

I installed the Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG mini PCI WLAN card into my Windows XP Pro SP2 Toshiba laptop (Toshiba Satellite 5205-S505). It will not access my Linksys BEFW11S4 v.2 Router!
Specifically, it will not connect to this router with (128-bit) WEP turned on. It WILL if I turn WEP off. My Sony Viao has no issues connecting.
    I have installed the new 9.0.4.27 [1-19-07].
PLEASE HELP!!!!Message Edited by Byrdman on 03-21-200709:30 PM

Try rolling back the wireless drivers in the Windows Device Manager to the previous version.  My wife's laptop (Dell Inspiron 600m) has the Intel 2200BG wireless and she was also having trouble connecting to one Linksys wireless router, although the laptop would connect fine at her other offices (all with same wireless security settings -- not necessarily same hardware tho) and our Linksys router at home.
She told me after rolling the drivers back a version she was then able to connect to this particular network that was giving her grief.

  • Problems reinstalling Intel ProSet Wireless software

My wife's T42 (2373-5TU) has somehow gotten into a state in which the WIFI adapter (Intel 2200BG) software doesn't work with WPA2-AES authentication.  I tried reinstalling using the latest-and-greatest drivers (6hwc05ww) from the Lenovo site.  However, the installation program produces a popup error message "Intel Wireless Management Service has encountered a problem and needs to close."  This message also occurs when I try to use the adapter.  Also, after reboot there's another popup window about an application error in S24EvMon.exe, which I think is related.
I have tried uninstalling the Intel software, but I get the same failure during the uninstall process.
At this point, the T42 works properly with unauthenticated networks, but I need to use WPA2-AES, and that doesn't work.
I also tried an earlier driver version: 1ywc54ww.  It refused to install because "A newer version of the Intel Pro/Wireless Network Connection driver is installed on this system."

Some more details: this is an XP system with service pack 3.
I upgraded Access Connections to version 5.33, but it doesn't seem to be able to work with the WIFI card.  In the "advanced" mode, it says "status not connected" and "help me fix this" says "incorrectly installed wireless driver or protocol" with an error code of 039.  But if I configure Windows to control the card, I can connect to various open networks.
I checked, and the "Wireless Zero Configuration" service is started.

  • X31 Wireless problems (Intel 2100) and Type Auto detected as 'TP-1-Q___' instead of '2672-NG9'

    Hey
I'm a thinkpad fan, and very happy about the good ol' x-series. I have a X31 type '2672-NG9', and it has been to a warranty repair once when the charger failed. At his point I got a new mainboard.
The problem is that the wireless network hasn't been working quite right since I got the mainboard replaced. Last time I made a reinstall of windows (via the Factory defaults service in the IBM bios), I somehow got the wireless to work with Windows' "Wireless Zero Configuration" service. Never got it to work with Access connections, and FN+F5 service couldn't always see the wireless device.
I have just made a reinstall again, and this time I'm not able to install the wireless card at all. When I try to run the driver (I found via the Thinkpad drivers matrix), the card appears for a few seconds, and disappears again.
The driver is called "Intel PRO/wireless LAN 2100 3b Mini PCI adapter" and is found here:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-59438
Via the Drivers matrix for the X3x's:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-43800
As said on the page, I made sure that I had the newest Access connections installed (5.30).
When I press FN-F5 i only see the Bluetooth connection, and not the wireless device.
    Any ideas solve this problem?
The other problem (and I am assuming that the problems might be connected) is that my x31 laptop is autodetected as the unknown type: 'TP-1-Q___'. This is done by the program at the support homepage, and by the system update program (which makes it totally unusable )
Are there any way of changing this ID for the right type (2672-NG9)?
    Kind regards

Ok... last mail from me today...
The status is that my wireless Intel 2100 network card, won't run together with Access Connections. If Access Connections isn't installed, the wirelless card functions great together with the windows Zero Configuration Service, but when i install and launch AC, my wireless card disappears from windows (XP-pro by the way).
To get it work agian, i uninstall AC and reinstall the Intel driver (this often result in a new number for the wireless conection)
I have installed the newest version of Access Connnections, Power Management and Hotkey services.
I have surfed the net and found other people reporting the same problem with this card, and a thinkpad, but no solutions that worked for me yet:

  • [Solved] Wired connection ok but wireless problem on Intel 5100

Here is how i solved the problem :
1 - get back to the wiki doing everything in order
2 - added dbus in attition to hal in the deamon line in rc.conf
3 - put wicd at the end of the deamon line
4 - then configured wicd for my wireless network at boot : no more dbus error, and connection perfectly ok
Thx very much for the superb wiki, certainly my fault if i messed up but i still have to learn

Stab in the dark...the hal daemon should start dbus, but sometimes I've been encouraged to add the dbus DAEMON explicitly (before hal).
I don't really understand dbus too intimately, but I've come across situations where although dbus is running, I can't talk to it because the DBUS_SESSION_BUS_{ADDRESS,PID,WINDOWID} variables weren't visible in the environment I was working in. For instance, if dbus is started by xinitrc, and then some system-level daemon tries to talk to dbus, usually it fails for me, and I have to use some workaround.
Now I would expect wicd to be set up so that the ordinary user doesn't encounter any problems of this sort. On the other hand, the error you're getting does say that it's dbus communication which is failing. Perhaps you could try shutting down hald and dbus, open a terminal, su -, /etc/rc.d/dbus start, and then try from that command line to tell wicd to connect?

  • Wireless Problem in windows 7 intel wifi link 5100agn

i bought a dv7 1270us laptop in january. everything was fine until the last 3 months i started having small problems in vista. it would take 10+ minutes to connect and the speed would go up and down. then i installed windows 7 and am either having problems with the card or driver but ive tried every driver i can find and nithing has worked.. the wireless drops randonly. when it drops it doesnt lose connection the signal drops all the way down to one bar and i get maybe 10Kbps of bandwith well it takes 2 minutes to load a page of this forum atleast. When it drops it also only drops for maybe 5-10 minutes or else it stays like that until i restart but resarting always fixes it tempoparily for 10 minutes or so. toaday i tried to disconnect and reconnect to my network. as soon as i cicked connect i got a blue screen it pointed torwards netw5v64.sys i have tried re installing the drivers multiple times and the problem isnt resolved. i have sent the laptop in twice in the last 2 months one for the blue ray drive and wireless problems i am having now. they sent it back with a new blue ray drive and a new antenna for my wireless saying the card was fina it was a driver and maybe a new antenna would help with connectivity. well they were wrong. i got it back and it started overheating to 90+ degrees celcius and wireless problems were still there even though they re-imaged the hard drive so all drivers should be perfect.so i sent it back again. now i just got it back and they cleaned the heatsink and completely ignored my wireless problems. the sheet that states the repairs that were done has a circle aroubd cleaned heatsink/fan and thats it n comments or anything. then to make the icing on the cake there is a 3 inch long fairly deep scrath on my laptop i take verygood care of all of my laptops so that i can sell them used for more than a scratched up one. i am very disappointed in hp and almost dont want to send it back and loose it for another week just to get it back without anything being done again i am almost certain they would re0image the hard drive again and send it back since they didnt even do that the second time. okay back on topic is there anything anyone has heard t fix this so i dont have to send it in again. any help is appreciated

Intel! They make processors and a variety of motherboard hardware, but they seem to have a devil of a time making decent drivers. Particularly with their wireless NICs. Lately I’ve noticed a number of errors springing from the Intel WiFi Link 5100/5300 AGN family of wireless adapters. They seem to cause random bluescreen errors on Windows Vista systems. Fortnuately, there is a viable workaround:
-Right click on Computer and select Manage.
-After Computer Management opens up, go to Device Manager.
-In Device Manager, expand the Network Adapters category.
-Right-click on “Intel (R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN” and select Properties.
-In Properties, go to the Power Management tab.
-Under the Power Management tab, make sure that “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” is unchecked.
Apparently, the driver for the WiFi Link 5100 can’t properly handle the device going to sleep, and pulls down the whole system. Hopefully Intel will fix this in future driver updates. Until then, this workaround will have to do.

  • Tip: Temp work around for Intel 7260 wireless card problems

I am currently having lot of issues with the Intel 7260 wireless card relating to unstable network connections (i.e. limited or no network connections, frequent dropouts). These problems are quite widespread, so it is not limited to Lenovo branded machines, many other brand of laptops are also having similar problem. This workaround is temporary until the laptop company and intel provides an official fix.

Step 1. Go into your control panel -> System Security -> System
Step 2. Click on Device Manager on the left hand side of the window.
Step 3. Click on Network Adapters
Step 4. Right click on Intel Wireless 7260, and click on properties
Step 5. Click on Advanced Tab
Step 6. Click on HT Mode and then select disable as an option.
Disabling the HT mode means you are operating the wireless card in G mode (54 mbps), for some people this is too slow, but it is an acceptable short term solution for preventing frequent network connection dropouts.

  • A30 and intel 2200BG miniPCI adapter

    Hi!
I've read the same topics on this forum but didn't find an answer.
I've installed wifi adapter(intel 2200BG) to my A30 everything seams OK but it says hardware switch off the switch is on but the green light stays off and the wireless doesn't work.
I've found a hint to cover 11 and 13 pins, made everything following the instruction, but nothing happend. It still doesn't work.
    Any hints?

    Hi,
I had the same problem at our company when I wanted to install a Wifi card!!
I called the tosh hotline and the hotline guy told me that I have to attach the ends of wireless LAN connector cables. The white aerial cable should be attached to top-most connector (nearer the back side of the computer), the black aerial cable to the bottom-most connector.
After that procedureit works! Also you have to install the Wifi tools from https://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com at the driver downlo section!
    Bye Bob

  • Satellite P10: How to enable Intel 2200BG WiFi card

    Hi
I have a Satellite psp10e which I have recently installed an Intel 2200BG WiFi card. After having problems getting it to switch on I have put tape on pin 13 on the card to switch the radio on.
I have installed all the latest drivers/ BIOS updates and spending hours searching the internet I am still yet to find a cure to get the hardware switch/fn+f8 and the WiFi led to work.
Is there something that anybody has figured out to make the hardware switch/led work? There must be a better cure than a piece of tape!!! It is it the BIOS that has anything to do with the hardware switch?

You cannot get it work with the switch because the Toshiba wireless cards have another pin to power off. And noone knows that pin. You could get one original toshiba from somewere and put it in and check out which pin is connected to the power switch.
Then you could change the pins on the new 2200b/g card. As the pins are very small and close together - it is nearly impossible to isolate them... But make your try ;)

  • Wireless problem since installing new drivers z61p

I recently restored back to factory default for everything. Then happily headed over to lenovo drivers to download all new drivers for my Z61p (win xp) .
    got my sound running
    downloaded intel wireless driver
got new access conections (since i was having a problem where the wireless would not switch on [using the Fn + F5..it just would not switch on] - managed to get it to now switch on at least)
however now when i  switch my machine on i get an error message saying intel wireless management has to shut down - do i want to send an error report (i did..no response yet..if ever)?
    then
access conections tells cant link to the wireless router..it simply finds nothing when i tell it to look for a network - never mind actually link to my preset office router
digging a bit below the surface
intel wants to report that i have the wrong driver installed (so i went back to the drivers site and downloaded again and installed again..no joy)
as does access conections..(did the same re install...no joy)
Do i have the wrong drivers?
    the site i used was:http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-64278
then for intel the one called:
    Intel PRO/Wireless 2200bg, 2915abg, 3945bg, 3945abg, 4965ag, 4965agn Mini PCI adapter
    and then:
    ThinkVantage Access Connections
    am i being"dumb"?
any help/ advice welcome.."other than just run the install file again"
is there another source of drivers i could use?

    Got this sorted.

  • T41 2373-8SU Wireless Problem

    Here is my situation:
I have received 4 T41 and 1 T42 laptops from a MS authorized refurbisher.  Upon initial boot, they boot like brand new out of the box machines.  I set them up for our network and install software needed by our organization.  On first setup, the Windows XP detected area wireless networks and I was able to connect them to our network wirelessly.  After a few days however, when I try to list the available wireless networks I get "No wireless networks were found in range".  The odd part is that they remain connected to the wireless network I connected them to when I set them up but to switch networks (say between work and home) is not possible because no wireless networks (even the one they connect to automatically) show in the wireless networks list.  All 5 of them do this so, I can only assume this is some kind of problem with Windows XP or the laptop.  I have tried the following to fix this situation to no avail:
    1. Reinstalling the adapter driver with a more current version from both Intel and Lenovo.  The Intel one says there is no compatible wireless device (though I downloaded and installed what they say to for a Intel PRO/Wireless 2200bg) and the Lenovo one says the driver I already have installed is more current though the dates on the download say otherwise).
    2. Reinstalling XP SP3.
    3. Trying the adapter drivers for every type of adapter the T41 ever came with thinking the wrong adapter type had been identified by the refurb company.
    4. Installing various 3rd party wireless network management software (including IBM Access and LucidLink).  They do not work properly for some reason.
    5. Installing Microsoft Hotfix KB942288-v3-x86.  This works briefly.  I install it, restart the computer, the networks list fine, but then a day or two later they are gone again and I'm back to square one.  Reinstalling the patch may or may not work again temporarily but does not provide any kind of lasting solution.  I've done this by trying both just the patch and then trying the patch and reapplying SP3 after the patch.  Neither works permanently.
    6. I have tried installing an external USB wireless adapter and it does not work either.  Same thing, says there are wireless networks available but when I click to list them the list says there are no networks in range.
    7. Uninstalling the adapter and letting Windows reinstall it.  It identifies it as a Intel PRO/Wireless 2200bg and installs a 12/2007 dated driver.
    8. Making sure the wireless signal is on.
    9. Disabling any power saving settings that may be putting the adapter to sleep.
I do not believe this is hardware related as the adapter works fine as far as connecting and picking up signal and other adapters do not work either.  It is just that the software does not show the networks available.
Additional ideas from what I've already attempted would be greatly appreciated.  It is not an option for me to replace these things for another 2-3 years and I'd really like to be able to give my employees something they can actually use on a portable basis outside our building.
I have had little success in finding someone else with this problem.  I've been searching for a year for a solution and no one else seems to have this problem which I really find hard to believe since I have 5 of them that do this it can't be an anomaly to me and I can't believe I am the only person still using T41s/T42s out of likely thousands of them that were ever made.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    As the saga continues:
The answer turned out to be even simpler than what I thought.
Turns out that if SP3 is installed while anti-virus software is running entries my be made incorrectly to the registry which cause the available wireless networks list to disappear. There is a MS hotfix for it at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953979 . It requires you to boot into safe mode, double click the fix file (needs to be extracted from the download first), and then you can reboot into normal mode and botta-bing, the network list is back. No need to reinstall Windows or anything.  Reinstalling Windows worked on the first one I tried it on because I disabled the AV when it was downloading SP3 so it installed properly.  But when I went to do the next one I forgot to do that and was very frustrated when I applied SP3 to it and the list disappeared again.  However, that was the key I needed to find the solution so it all worked out in the end.
The fix opens a command window and closes it so fast you wonder if it really did anything but it does work.
I feel dumb that it took me a year to figure this out, but I didn't really know the problem started after installing SP3 because by the time Windows Update did that the computers were with my users and I had no idea that updates had been run prior to the problem appearing. However, after reinstalling Windows and it working fine in the SP2 install and then not once SP3 was applied things started falling into place as to the problem. Hope this saves someone else a year of pulling their hair out.

  • Tecra A4: Wlan Intel 2200bg not stable with 802.11 G WLan

With the latest driver re-installed (9.0.4.39), I've found that a connection to a "g" network was unstable. (Slightly better than before re-installing, when it would connect to a "g" network but not pass any data.)
With both a BT Homehub and now a DLink DSL-2640R router (TalkTalk), I have found that one way to get a stable connection with the latest driver is to set the router to use only "b" networking. But this is slower.
Until I got a different router (recent change of telco provider) I had just assumed it was a BT Homehub problem (believe me, I had spent some time trying to resolve it!). However, now that I have tried two routers and found the same problem, I thought it might be an issue relating to the setup of the laptop...
I've kept the many wireless driver downloads that I've installed, and tried to think back to happy time when both laptop and homehub were happy to communicate on a "g" network. So I went back to driver version 9.0.4.17, and guess what, all the problems have gone away with the new router and it's happily connected to a "g" network.
Normally the advice is to use the latest driver version, so why would I have success with an older driver. What have I done wrong? I tried different types of encryption available and it hasn't affected the problem.
I've got the box ticked to allow windows to configure my network settings. I while ago I did try using the Proset Software, but that stopped the ConfigFree from running properly so I went back to the original set up.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I need to do to get a stable connection to a "g" network with an Intel 2200bg with the latest driver (9.0.4.39)? I'm wary that I may run into some other issues if I continue to use the older driver?

There are always compatibility issues with Wireless products, especially when connecting with different brands. Manufacturers are constantly updating the drivers to fix issues, but sometimes it can introduce problems with older Adapters such as the 2200BG.
First thing to do is update the firmware on your Router, then update the drivers on the Wireless Adapter. If later drivers don't work, it wont hurt to revert back to a previous version.
You can also try changing the Advanced settings in the Wireless Adapters Properties in Device Manager. For example, try setting it to "802.11g only", try a different channel, try different power settings, etc..
