Intel 3945ABG wireless adapter

I have a wireless adapter problem.
I am unable connect to my wireless modem using the wireless adapter. I can only connect with the Ethernet adapter and cable. I am unable to renew or release an IP address or get a manually set IP to work on the wireless network. Another laptop computer connects to the wireless modem fine.
I tried downloading and installing the adapter driver from Lenovo, but that failed halfway through unpacking and transferring to the hard drive, with the message "access is denied" on C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\WLLANINT\Vista\Apps\v32\Thumbs.db.
Does anyone have any ideas about my wireless network problem or how to successfully install a new driver?
Many thanks
Gil Lambert

delete the thumb file then try to re-install.
by the way, do not forget to switch the wireless button ( probably front side of your computer ) and make sure you activate wireless by pressing fn + f5 ( also make sure your function keys are working, if not, re-install power management )

Yeah, I tried it exactly as described.
I use the Satellite U940-11X (PSU6SE) which has as network adapters the Realtek PCIe FE Family Controler and the Intel Centrino Wireless Adapter N 2230. The OS platform is Windows 8, 64bit.
I first uninstalled the existing Intel Bluetooth driver, then the Intel ProSet Wireless software.
I downloaded the newest software from Intel's website which is:
    - BT_2.6.1212_e64.exe, version 2.6.1212, 19-3-2013, for the Intel bluetooth software and
    - Wireless_15.6.1_e64.exe, version 15.6.1, 19-3-2013, for the Intel PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers
I have installed both software packages correctly and did not receive any error messages.
The installation seems to be faultless.
However, the bluetooth switch in PC settings (wireless tab) remains gray.
I cannot switch it from off to on.
In the device manager the bluetooth button is listed under hidden devices.
    Where is the mistake?
Is it possible that my notebook requires specially modified drivers from the Toshiba website and/or additional drivers like to "bluetooth filter driver package" provided by Toshiba for my notebook model?
As to the bluetooth filter driver package it reads on the website that this driver is needed to enable bluetooth on your Atheros wlan-combo-card.
I am confused now because the notebook Satellite U940 11X (PSU6SE) doesn't have the Atheros card.
    Any advice for me?
    Thanks in advance

  • Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Crashes XP-Pro T61

I recently updated my windows XP Pro SP2 version of windows to SP3. When I went to connect my wireless, it successfully connected, but then I got the BSOD suggesting I uninstall any recently installed h/w or s/w. Windows error reporting suggested a wireless adapter problem, and sure enough, as soon as I disabled the Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection adapter, the crashing stopped. So I went into device drivers, and attempted to update the driver, but was told that it was already updated.
Then I went to Intel’s website and found a couple of updates, but they indicated:
“The driver version of the following products will not update. The Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software version will be updated.
    Intel® PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection”
So since I prefer to use the ThinkVantage Access connections, I decided to run ThinkVantage System Update, but got the message: “An error occurred while gathering user information.” So I was going to try the solution George had given me a few days ago to solve my “T42 will not connect to secure home wireless/ThinkVantage Access Connections Freezes” problem:
Of downloading the latest version of System Update from here:
     http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS013489
    But I wasn’t sure that would work for my T61 Type 7665-CTO s/n **-***** 08/05. Product ID 7665WZK.

    'afternoon.
first, you should edit your post to remove your serial number.
next, the version of TVSU you linked is correct for your XP machine. the version for win7 was just updated to v5.
finally, if you want to bypass TVSU, for now, you can get any drivers for your PC from the driver matrix here:
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-67853
looks like the WLAN driver pack you could use is v14.03.000 available here:

  • Unable to autoconnect to Wifi network after installing Windows update 8.1 - Toshiba Satellite - Intel Pro/Wireless 3945ABG-netwerkverbinding

Hello, got a problem connecting to my wifi: every time I start up my Laptop (5 year old Toshiba Satellite L300) the wificonnections are listed but windows is unable to connect to the WIFI. Wificonnection states unable to connect, after running Windows Network
Control the issue is found en the WIFI connects correctly.
I need to run the troubleshooter every time after staring up windows in order to get my wifi running, this is rather annoying..
Does anybody have a solution? I downloaded and installed the latest driver from intel, and also tried to enter below without any improvement.
netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)
netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)
     see below error report:

    Hi,
With the google translate, It seems that you are facing with the following problem:
A network cable is not connected correctly or may be damaged
Problem with wireless adapter or access point
For this issue, I suggest you try the following steps:
Try with another account, or test with another system, another cable.
    Reinstall network adapter.
Open  Device Manager then Network Adaptors, find the wireless NIC and choose properties then open the power management tab and uncheck the one that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
Test this issue in safe mode with networking
Windows Startup Settings (including safe mode)
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode
Does this work? and I would be appreciate if you could update the diagnostics with English.

  • New Intel WIFI Wireless Network Adapter does not recognize Wireless Router

I have had a Linksys BEFW11S4 Version 4 Wireless router for quite some time.  It works like a champ and I have one Laptop wired to it and a second using Wireless working just fine.  Recently, I received a new ThinkPad W500 Laptop with an Intel WIFI Link 5100 AGN wireless network adapter.  The older laptop that works just fine with the router uses a
11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express Adapter by Atheros.  However, the NEW laptop with the Intel Adapter fails to connect to the Router.  It will either indicate a failure while "Waiting for Association" or it will indicate a failure when waiting to "renew IP Address".  Sometimes, it will show a signal strength close to ZERO (Even as the older laptop with the other adapter is showing a signal strength close to 100%) When I called Linksys support, I was told that the facts that the Router (a) works find with the wired Laptop and (b) works fine with the 11a/b/g NEtwork Adapter and (c) works fine when WIRED to the new laptop all indicate that the problem is NOT with the router at all -- but with the Network Adapter.  Can anyone tell me what has to be adjusted in the Adapter settings?  Right now, I am using IBM Access Connections for BOTH of the wireless laptops.  I have made sure to set IDENTICAL values for SSID and WEP (128-bit) [static] password.  I have also ensured that all OTHER settings are the same for the two laptops.  Yet, in one laptop, there is NO PROBLEM while in the other, I can not get the Wireless Adapter to "see" the signal from the Router.  TO further check this, I have [temporarily] disabled the WEP password, enabled SSID broadcast, and disabled the MAC address restrictions that I put in (so that the system would be totally "open") yet the Intel Adapter STILL did not "find" anything.  In addition, when I use the "Find WIFI" feature in Access Connections, I find that SOMETIMES the network with SSID is found and sometimes, it will display "unknown network" and not pick up the SSID.
This is all very frustrating.  If anyone has experience with the Intel WIFI Link 5100 AGN Adapter, I would appreciate any hints, tricks, ideas, etc.
    Think you!!!!
    --Zvi

I installed the LATEST version of IBM Access Connections as well as verifying that I have teh LATEST drivers for the Intel Wireless NEtwork Adapter.
What now happens is that I am able to authenticate to the Router.  However, I get a failure on "renewing IP Address" -- which [according to the diagnostic message] means that the Rotuer fails to provide me with an IP address to use.  Do you have any suggestions?

  • X201 wireless adapter : Thinkpad vs intel centrino?

Hi- I am going to purchase a X201 laptop- but am confused about the wireless adapter option.  There is the thinkpad bgn and then intel centrino wireless, advanced and ultimate "n" .  The help buttons are of no help.  Under what circumstances would I need to opt for one of the intel centrino adaptes?  Are they faster or more compatible?

Well I'm not and expert, but in a nutshell, with the right antenna setup and router/access point for each, you get speeds up to:
    • ThinkPad Wireless BGN
    • Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1000 BGN
    • Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6200 AGN
    • Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300 AGN
    • Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 AGN
ThinkPad Wireless BGN: 150Mpbs transmit/300Mbps receive (Realtek-based last I heard).
    Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1000 BGN: 150Mbps transmit/300Mbps receive.
    Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6200 AGN: 300Mbps transmit and receive.
    Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300 AGN: 450Mbps transmit and receive.
    Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 AGN: Adds WiMAX.
These are theoretical maximum speeds and of course the real world rate is lower and ymwv.

  • Intel Pro wireless 3945ABG and WPA 2 Question

I see that Intel says this adapter is compatible with WPA2 but I can only find WPA support in the Lenovo driver download.  Without WPA2 AES I can't connect this laptop to many of the newer N wireless routers.  Has anyone found a driver that support WPA 2?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Welcome to the forum!
I'm not sure I quite understand your dilemma...any Lenovo driver for this card will enable the type of encryption that you're looking for...typing this on a X60s with the exact same card and connected to the WPA-PSK network...
I'm using Windows to configure my networks, not Access Connections.
    Cheers,

    Not for me :-(
I have an Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6205 AGN and the only way get it connecting to my WPA2-AES network was downgrading to linux 3.5. But because I have optimus graphics, this means I can no longer use bumblebee, as it depends on 3.6.
Anyone got a hint for a workaround to get both working?
    Thanks
Does the 11n_disable workaround work for you?
Just upgraded to 3.6.5, I still have the problem on Centrino Wireless 100 N, with some differences: now it seems to authenticate but with very low speeds and the connection isn't stable. I haven't found out much more, I'll try to get more information during the week. Right now I still use the 11n disabled.

  • X41 wireless adapter not found

I have just reinstalled XP on my x41 version  2525-65g     using a version of XP professional  I happened to have.
I thought that I had re-installed all the drivers but I keep getting the message "No supported wifi adapters in the system in the system".  I have installed Intel PROset/wireless utility  which used to work before the reinstall.
I am also having trouble getting bluetooth going as well.
I have various drivers with yellow question marks in device manager.
Can anyone tell me what to try next?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Please first of all identify the unkown wireless device as described here to verify, that the "factory-default" wireless lan-card is built in.
Next step will be to uninstall all wrong WiFi-drivers if installed (Controlpanel - Add or remove Software).
The WiFi driver for the Intel of  your X41 is this one:
    - Intel PRO/Wireless 2200bg, 2915abg, 3945bg, 3945abg, 4965ag, 4965agn Mini PCI adapter.
(view the readme in the ZIP-file with Wordpad)
Sometimes users tune up their wireless by replacing it by an Atheros/Phillips WiFi-Card:
    - ThinkPad 802.11abg, 802.11abgn, 802.11bg, and 802.11bgn Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter
    or Cisco Wireless lan:
    - ThinkPad Dual-Band ab and 802.11abg wireless LAN Mini PCI adapter
Please read the installation instructions on the concerning download-page.
    Have success.

  • Wireless adapter Z-Com XG-703A doesn't work with WPA after reboot

    Hello everybody,
Arch doesn't load kernel module arc4 during boot with usb wireless adapter Z-Com XG-703A. So WPA doesn't work and It can connect to only opened access points.
I found two work arounds but I don't know how to fix the issue completely.
    1. Remove usb adapter and plug it in again (it causes arc4 module to load), then restart networking.
    2. rmmod p54usb, rmmod p54common, modprobe arc4, modprobe p54usb and after that restart networking.
Could anybody help to fix the problem generally?
    $ lsusb
    0cde:0008 Z-Com XG-703A 802.11g Wireless Adapter [Intersil ISL3887]
    $ uname -a
    Linux arch 3.1.9-2-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Sat Jan 14 08:11:41 UTC 2012 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6850 @ 3.00GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
    Stas

Does the p54common get loaded again as well when you do modprobep54usb?
If not, you might just put that into modprobe.conf blacklist.
If it does get loaded as well, there might be another wireless module getting loaded that perhaps does cause problems. You can check that with
    mkinitcpio -v
now, or with lsmod after a reboot before your workaround.

  • Aironet cb21ag vs intel 3945abg

I purchased a Cisco Aironet CB21AG PC-Card because it comes with a decent site survey tool to determine signal strengths, etc. I also thought it was supposed to be a really decent card.
I'm using it in a laptop that has a built in Intel Pro 3945ABG wireless card, and it seems like the Intel Pro 3945ABG card is always showing a stronger signal to the network than the Cisco card.
How reliable is the Signal Stength value that shows up on the wireless icon in the taskbar. For example, the laptop is stationary, not moving, etc. and the signal strength of the Cisco card is showing LOW, yet the signal strength of the Intel card is showing VERY GOOD.
At these readings, the Cisco site survey tool is showing the signal strength at -77dBm and SNR at about 18-20dBm with the link speed set at 24Mpbs. I do not know the exact signal stength readings of the Intel 3945 card because Cisco's tool doesn't report on that card, just on the Cisco card. So I have to base my opinions off the icon in the taskbar that shows signal strength at VERY GOOD.
So I guess I'm looking for input here as to whether the Intel card is possibly more sensitive and can achieve a better connection than the Cisco card, or whether it's more likely that the reported numbers on the Cisco card or just more accurate...
    Any thoughts?
    JR

    Just a quick followup.
    For example.
On my laptop with the built in 3945abg card, and a Cisco Cb21AG PC card installed, when both devices are communicating with the same WLAN, the Cisco card is showing a -77dBm signal strength (+/-1 dbM varies) according to the Cisco Aironet Site Survey Tool while the Intel 3945ABG card is showing a -66dBm signal strength (+/-1dBm varies) according to the Intel ProSet Tools.
Same AP, same laptop, just different wireless devices... reporting a 10-11dBm difference between them.

    Hi ,
I have one pecular issue in my wireless lan set-up. I have some laptop users who are using below inbuilt wireless adapter/cards :

above card are having issue with WPA2 enabled ssid connecitivity. strange is , the same users are getting connected to other wep enabled SSID but its not working for WPA2 SSID.
I have external ACS server which is used for radius authentication. Last time I had put same query in support forum did some workaround.
eq. disabling DHCP proxy option in WLC and moving all DHCP scope in external server.
After doing this workaround this mentioned users are still facing issue. I gone through some cisco document and some forums and came across that there is something to be done in " Session Timed Out "  optionin WLC
which is default 1800 sec based on that I tried to capture debug outputs for mentioned above problematic clients and user who is working fine .
I gone through the same debug output  and observed :
User who is working fine :
    Processing Access-Accept for mobile 00:22:5f:8d:55:84
00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx Setting re-auth timeout to 1800 seconds, got from WLAN config.

The User /  card which is having issue :
    Processing Access-Accept for mobile 00:22:5f:90:a2:ac
00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx Setting re-auth timeout to 0 seconds, got from WLAN config.

Please suggest me to do workaround.

  • Disabling Wireless Adapter

I want to run a Powershell Startup Script to disable the Wireless adapters on some systems. I thought I'd want to get some WMI stuff
    Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_NetworkAdapter -Filter "Name = 'Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6205'
Then run netsh to disable it
netsh interface set interface "Wireless Network Connection" DISABLED
After looking at this I wondered why not just run the
netsh interface set interface "Wireless Network Connection" DISABLED
    I don't really need the Get-WmiObject do I?

    Function pfParseResult(cbparam, pi_Result)
    Dim sTempPath, sSplitFirst, piLen
    Dim paParseArray
    sTempPath = cbparam
    'WScript.Echo sTempPath

    piLen = Len(cbparam)
    If (piLen > 17) Then
    sSplitFirst = Right(cbparam, piLen - 17)    ' 17 = 3 for /p: and 14 for pcombobox.exe with spaces
    End If
'WScript.Echo "this is sSplitFirst" & sSplitFirst
    paParseArray = Split(sSplitFirst, ",", -1, 0)     ' string, delimiter, count -1 = all, binary(0) or text (1)
    'WScript.echo CrLf
    'WScript.echo paParseArray(0)
    'WScript.echo CrLf
    'WScript.echo paParseArray(1)
' ie a valid selection was returned from GetComboInput, so use the return code ( pi_Result) which represents the item
' selected to select the item from the paParseArray which is the cbparam parameter minus the exe and the /p: with
    ' the /p: parameters split into the paParseArray ( ie D,L,R,S,V.... )
    pfParseResult = paParseArray(pi_Result - 1)
    'Do While objWshScriptExec.Status =0
    'WScript.Sleep 100
'WScript.Echo "this is the status code" & objWshScriptExec.Status
    'Loop
    End Function
just code, no beer...although that would probably help..
