Intel 6 series/C200 Storage controller and AHCI
Hi All,
I have a T420s with the Intel 6 series/C200 storage controller and an Intel 160Gb SSD.
Its currently configured to use IDE. I've been reading that switching to AHCI will improve the performance.
What i haven't been able to figure out is, does this storage controller support AHCI?
I could not agree more with you Jaco,
Since it is working very well, I should not make any further change. Thanks for your kind note.
I only wanted to have more supporting comments about the referred issue in order to proceed. Particularly from HP.
Thanks again Jaco....

Unrecognised Mass Storage Controller on Satellite A100-680
Hello,
I have a Satellite A100-680 (PSAA9E) that has been running XP Home for about two years. Very satisfied!
I decided to upgrade to Vista Business, which worked very well (actually impressed by easyness of install).
The machine works perfectly , there is only one irritating factor - under Device Manager - Other devices I have some thing called Mass Storage Controller and it does not have a driver loaded. I have been trying to locate one, but I have no idea what to look for.
Vista at some point suggested some Texas Instrument PCI device, but..... let me put it this way..... luckily I did not have to reinstall since I had made an image backup of the disks.
Can anyone give me a hint what I should look for.
Thanks in advance
Hans
Edited by: AdminReally nice, that your Win Vista installation worked so good.
For this unrecognised device, I too think that it is the Texas Instrument card reader.
Go there: http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
And download the Flash Media Driver and maybe SD Memory Format. Install them, reboot and device should be installed without any problems. -
Satellite M100 - Driver for Mass Storage Controller
Please help. I keep getting the message hat I have no driver for my Mass storage controller. I have downloaded and re-downloaded the Toshiba drivers. Microsoft cant find anything.
It seems to be PCI bus 5, device 6, function 2.
Can anyone help (in laymans terms please). This is driving me crazy.
ThanksHi Tellgio,
Which Toshiba drivers you have reinstalled exactly? Im pretty sure that you dont have installed all drivers because you still have a yellow exclamation mark in device manager
Furthermore it would be interesting to know which OS is installed
I had also a yellow exclamation mark on Mass Storage Controller and in my case it was a missing Card Reader driver. So you should install this driver from official Toshiba website:

Satellite P200-1JY - Mass storage controller driver under windows 7
Hi,
I own a P200-1JY PSPB6E, and I have installed Windows 7. One device have no driver found, this is the "mass storage controller" and I havn't found this driver....
I am the only one with this problem?
regards.Hi
You not alone.
I aso had this on a P500 when doing a clean install of Win7.
Go to the Toshiba website for your region and download the Win7 Toshiba drivers for the driver issue you have ...P200 I found here -http://support.toshiba-tie.co.jp/windows7/download/Satellite_P200_32_au.htm
There's a storage config atch here as well which I think resolved my issue of a few weeks ago...

D20 Blue Screen loading Windows 7-64bit using Intel controller and Marvell enabled
Hi, Help,
Hardware:
D20, 4158, Four 500GB Seagate SATA drives configured as a RAID10 1TB virtual disk (partitioned into five logical drives).
Goal:
Recover or repair a degraded RAID array.
I want to be able to launch Windows 7-64bit using the Intel controller and have it access the virtual disk of the degraded RAID array attached to the Marvell controller. Subsequently, I want to use the Marvell MRU utility to repair/recover the situation.
Situation/Issue:
Things ran well for two years and two months until yesterday. Now, when booting I see:
1962: No operating system found. Press F1 to repeat boot sequence.
If I use the Windows 7 installation CD and load the Marvell driver, the attempt to recover the operating system reports that the MBR is corrupt and cannot be repaired.
If I boot with the Marvell controller disabled in the D20 BIOS, using a Windows 7 installation (with Marvell drivers) attached to the Intel controller, everything works except (of course) I cannot access the RAID drives.
If I reboot with the Marvell controller enabled, using the same Windows 7 installation via Intel controller, I see a "Starting Windows" announcement followed by a flash of the blue screen of death.
The BSOD message is unspecific, no error code, just...
"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen,
restart your computer..."
Additional information:
If I access the Marvell BIOS (ctrl-M) and look at Devices, one of the four Seagate drives has status FREE instead of status ASSIGNED. If I run the Marvell BIOS verify disk utility diagnosic on that FREE status disk, I get a fault error after about 30 minutes of scanning. So, one Seagate disk is sour and somehow the MBR was corrupted at the same time.
History:
Two years ago, during the intial configuration, I could access the Marvell RAID disks from this Intel-controller-booted Windows 7 installation, but my fuzzy memory is that I had to change something in the D20 BIOS, such as the AHCI setting or similar.
Status:
Today, using the Intel controller to boot Windows 7 with the Marvell controller enabled is just BSOD. What am I missing or failing to do or set?
Thank you in advance for any help and ideas.
-John
Solved!
Go to Solution.Update:
I replaced the 500GB Seagate disk with a new 500GB Seagate. I ran the Marvell BIOS verify disk utility on the new disk drive and it passed with no errors. Following the steps given in the Marvell MRU online help, I rebuilt the virtual disk. Upon completion (which took a little more than an hour to complete), I rebooted. Before the Seagate disk went south yesterday, the Marvell virtual disk contained one primary partition (C, and four NTFS drives (D:, E:, F:, and Z. Now it contains three primary NTFS drives (C:, F:, and Z. An extended partition contains D: (an unformatted volume of size 199.30MB) and an unused space of 199.30GB.
Event log:
Looking at the event log, Windows reports that the disk in question raised a warning yesterday. Three messages share the same timestamp (all from mv64xx (a Marvell process):
"Physical disk 16 is plugged out."
"Virtual disk 0 is degraded."
"Physical disk 16 is plugged in."
Eight seconds later, UserPnp logs:
"Driver Management has concluded the process to add Service disk for Device Instance ID SCSI\DISK&VEN_SEAGATE&PROD_ST3500418AS&REV_CC38\5&248BBE23&0&000100 with the following status: 0"
One second later, UserPnp logs:
"Driver Management concluded the process to install driver FileRepository\disk.inf_amd64_neutral_10ce25bbc5a9cc43\disk.inf for Device Instance ID SCSI\DISK&VEN_SEAGATE&PROD_ST3500418AS&REV_CC38\5&248BBE23&0&000100 with the following status: 0x0."
Questions:
Is it possible that UserPnp corrupted the Marvell virtual disk after an intermittent physical disk unplugged/plugged-in event that happened when the Seagate hardware went failed. It looks to me like my D: and E: are toast despite RAID 10.
Any ideas? Is there anyway to recover the Marvell virtual disk configuration to the state prior to the hardware failure? If not, what good is RAID 10?
My apologies for the long posting, but I am an old software guy who does not understand the intricacies of RAID and disk management.
Thank you in advance for any leads toward a solution,

Intel 82801EB Serial Ultra ATA Storage controller?
Reworded
Bought a new HD. Seagate 80 Gb SATA.
Installed OK Setup Bios OK
Copied OS to new Drive OK
Selected new drive to boot to OK
Started windows and new hardware found. Not OK
The hardware found was "Intel 82801EB Serial Ultra ATA storage controller".
Driver found in WinNt / inf folder
Comes up with an installation error everytime "Data Invalid".
It seems to running on a std IDE controller, however I get the new hardware message everytime I boot.
Feels like something set in bios is not recognised by OS or driver is corrupt.
Any clues
Thanks in advance
GeoffThanks for that
Checked everything as suggested on the doco. I cannot see anything obvious. I would appear that windows see's it as a SERIAL ATA controller. However, I cannot find anything on Intel's site that refers to a "Intel 82801EB Serial Ultra ATA storage controller".

Hello!
1. Getting a yellow arrow in Device Manager for Other Devices>Mass Storage Controller. Online HP site scan can't find my computer. When I type model as DV8225nr, it's can't find that either. I need a driver so I can clear this question mark. Properties>Details> Device Instance ID is PCI\VEN_104C&DEV_8033&SUBSYS_309B103C&REV_00/4&13826118&23A4
2. My daughter uses this computer so maybe through some key combination or switch or something (unless it just failed), the left mouse button doesn't work. I have to use a USB optical mouse. Any idea what I can look at to restore full functionality to the mouse/touchpad?
3. At night, I notice that there is a flashing blue light comping from this computer. I think it's when it goes into standby. Any way to stop that flashing?
I appreciate everyone's help!
Regards,
Leaning

You need this driver for that device.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-43235-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
Did you install the touchpad driver?
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-48345-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...
If that doesn't work, I don't have any other suggestions for you and I concur with your assumption that it is a hardware problem.
Blinking light? Shut the PC down instead of letting it go into sleep mode.
There are no settings to not have that happen. -
[915 Series] Ethernet Controller and SM Bus Controller Drivers
I have a 915P Neo2 Platinum Motherboard.
I recently built a computer. When I put the driver CD in my computer freezes on loading. I have trieed finding the source of that problem. Now I am trying to Download the drivers. I have downloaded most but the two Question mark thingos it says on my device manager list are "Ethernet Controller" and "SM Bus controller". I have searched on the driver download list. I can find the right ethernet controller but when I download the zipped folder and unzip it, it just has a few random files that I cant open. No setup files. How do i use these files?Hi Adams.. first we need your sys specsQuote
-CPU speed, FSB speed and OC speed which you always run if you OC, also include whether HT is enabled or not.
-RAM, the timing and the OC timing which you always run,
-exact motherboard model,
-display card, if u OC include the info as well
-PSU, power supply unit, brand and model, even better to include the exact wattage of all +3.3V, +5V and 12V rails
-HDDs, CDROMs and which ports you plug them in
-other PCI cards and which slots you plug them in
-other peripherals like USB, 1394 devices which you plug them in and create the issue
-BIOS settings which you changed from the default values, such as enable/disable some built-in devices, ACPI, etc

AMD storage controller problems with a 3tb HDD
I recently bought a Seagate 3tb HDD to use as extended / secondary storage. It seems that AMD has not updated its storage controller to recognize >2tb yet. I cannot find drivers for my chipset anywhere at least. And it seems that noone running an AMD chipset is upgrading HDD's past 2tb? I know Intel came out with an update for their controller that fixed this problem. Is anything available for the AMD controller like this?
Hp Pavilion HPE H8-1214
MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
AMD FX-6100 6 core processor
10 Gigs Ram
Gigabyte 2AC8 Mothermoard
AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series Gfx
1465GB Seagate ST1500DL003-9VT1 SCSI Disk Device (RAID) Primary (HP installed)
2930GB Seagate ST3000DM001-1CH1 SCSI Disk Device (RAID) Secondary (the problem drive)
Gigabyte has no mention of this Motherboard existing on their support site.
AMD has nothing about their Storage Controllers on theirs.
I can see all 3tb in Disk Management, but i cannot partition past 2.2tb. The last 746.52Gb will be unusable.
AMD AHCI compatible RAID Controller driver version is 3.3.1545.14 and Microsoft says that it is the most up-to-date
Any help with this would be great. Thanks!

That would be all the help I can offer because I don't know why all 3 TB of the drive can't be seen in one big partiton unless you didn't format it in GPT.
In order for all 3 TB to be seen in one partition, the drive has to be formatted in GPT.

HP continues to ship defective Intel 6 series chipset to customers after recall.
Something folks should be aware of is that HP has instituted a "fix" that isn't really a fix. I had a DV7T QE (product number XN093AV) that was ordered in January. The laptop was affected by the chipset issue and after about a month of checking back with HP customer service I was finally told that they had a resolution and that I could exchange my machine for one with the newly revised chipset. The replacement machine was delivered to me in mid March, it was the identical product number (XN093AV) and contained the identical faulty chipset.
Some background for those not familiar with the chipset issue. Intel initiated a recall of their 6 series (cougar point) southbridge chipset designed for use with the second generation core i-series "sandybridge" CPU's. Among the chipset's functions is the SATA controller interface for storage devices. The chipset manages 6 SATA ports, 2 at 6 Gb/s and 4 at 3 Gb/s. It is the 3 Gb/s ports that are affected by the design flaw which can lead to data errors for an attached storage device. Intel's mobile version of this chipset is called HM65 and the stepping (version) of the chipset with the problem is "B2". Intel has implemented a silicon fix and released a new stepping "B3" which does not have the problem. However, Intel has continued to ship the affected "B2" stepping to manufacturers for applications where only the 6 Gb/s ports would be used as they are unaffected by the design flaw.
Back to HP's "fix" - my original machine had the faulty "B2" stepping HM65 chipset with a hard drive connected to a 6 Gb/s port and an optical drive connected to one of the faulty 3 Gb/s ports. The replacement machine I received also had the same "B2" stepping HM65 chipset with both drives now connected to the 6 Gb/s ports. Unfortunately this isn't an acceptable solution on at least two fronts. First, in addition to the primary hard drive bay and the optical drive bay this particular 17.3 inch laptop has a secondary hard drive bay. I have independently purchased an SSD drive that I intend to install in addition to the factory installed drives. This requires the use of a third port which would have to be one of the faulty 3 Gb/s ports. Moreover the laptop also has an e-SATA connector for connecting to external drives which I intend to use for backups. I didn't verify this but considering that the primary hard drive and the optical drive are consuming the only two working ports it stands to reason that the e-SATA connector is connected to one of the faulty ports.
After about 5 hours of being bounced around in the HP customer service void and being told that there was nothing wrong with my machine they agreed to exchange it yet again for one of the newly released DV7T QE models (product number XW899AV) which I am hoping will have the HM65 "B3" stepping chipset. I haven't received it yet so I can't verify whether or not the new product has the same issue. I will post when I do get it.
Does this impact you? You can determine which stepping of the chipset you have by running CPU-Z, a free and widely trusted system utility, available at www.cpuid.com. Select the mainboard tab and look at your chipset revision. If you have the "B2" stepping and you intend to use more than two SATA devices at the same time you may have an issue. The following link outlines your options from hp.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02712015&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=505...
I will point out that the answer to FAQ # 2 is definitively untrue.
Is HP still making products with the affected Intel chipset?
No. HP has stopped manufacturing products with the Intel technology at issue and has placed a shipment hold on products in HP and channel inventory.
Good luck.

DV6-1230us Intell 4 Series Express Chipset Family Driver Update
Hello,
I am looking for an updated driver I can download for my Intell 4 Series Express Chipset Family. I started having an issue with being able to edit my GoPro videos with GoPro Cinform studio on my laptop. After contacting GoPro and working through several recomendations nothing seemed to fix the issue so they suggested I download the most current driver. However there lies the problem, because the most current driver on the site is from 2009. Is there a more up to date driver I can download and use?
Please help,
DavidHi The intel chipset update manager refuses to do the update due to not accepted by the laptop mfgr (hp).
My original trouble is also with GoPro Studio 2, wherein part of the EDIT function screen, the storyboard panel, is missing and cannot be displayed, even with a pre-canned template.
Here is the output from dxdiag: (regret the verbose output)

What would be my next steps? -
Hi.
My Desktop Computer(Intel P 4, 512MB of RAM, and Graphics Card with 256MB of RAM)
Also, My Desktop Computer with P 4 doesn't have any access internet since there is no network adapter is installed. As a result, I would not be able to run the pc scan utility, or Reader a web-based applet that identifies my GPU or Audio controller
and finds the latest graphics driver for my GPU, and Audio.
I have two Windows XP installations:
Windows XP SP2(32Bit) which is old and it seems it infected by some viruses.
I have installed another fresh clean Windows XP(32Bit) SP3. However, I have two devices not detected well by Windows XP.
First of all, when saying that I have multi-operationgs systems, I mean there are two operating systems installed on my PC(SP2, SP3) both are 32Bit. The first Windows SP2(NOT installed by me) has all multimedia audio card installed well,
and has SCSI and RAID Host Controller shown the device manager. However, only the VGA is not installed on Windows SP2. However, the second one Windows SP3(Installed by me) has VGA not installed, Multimedia audio NOT installed, and there is no SCSI and RAID
Host Controller in device manager.
First: Yes, my motherboard has integrated video, and integrated audio card
According to the screen shots above, then
The vendor ID of Multimedia Audio Controller is 8086 and the device ID is
24D5.
The vendor ID of Video Controller is 8086 and the device ID is
2572.
I AM EXPECTING THAT KNOWING THE VENDOR ID AND THE DEVICE ID WILL LET ME QUICKLY FIND THE APPROPRIATE DRIVER. HOWEVER, I COULDN'T FIND THE APPROPRIATE DRIVER.
Thus, could you please help me to find them?
I have tried installing a soundMAX card driver, however, I found this error.
I have checked the other Windows XP SP2(32Bit) which is oder installed, and it seems it infected by some viruses.
However, the Multimedia Audio on that Windows is installed well. As here: I only posted these screen shots to show what kind of device is Multimedia Audio Card

Power PC G5, Addonics eSATA controller and Fantom Green Drive. Issues?
I posted this question under a different topic, and was encouraged to begin a new thread. Sorry if anyone has come across it twice, but the earlier post was my first to these forums.
I have purchased and installed a used Addonics ADS3GX4R5-EM, 4-port eSATA PCI-X controller. Although it came with a driver CD, it was cracked when it arrived. I've downloaded this driver: Sil3124 2.0.3.
Directly connected, I have a USB2.0/eSATA Micronet Fantom Green Drive (1TB). The drive does indeed mount, and I have transferred large files to it from DVD. I've also transferred files from it to the desktop at relatively high speed. However, the drive's stability is questionable. Playing back a 30MB Quicktime file causes the drive to improperly "remove" itself. Sometimes this happens even while in the midst of writing to it. I don't know what chipset it incorporates -- perhaps Oxford OXU931DS, but I'm not certain.
I have a sense this erratic behavior might be driver-related, but I could be wrong.
Does anyone have any experience with this Addonics card and a Fantom Green Drive? My system is a PowerPC G5, Dual 1.8, 2GB RAM, OS 10.4.11.
Finally, under the system profiler's PCI Cards heading, this item appears as "PCI1095,3124 Other Mass Storage Controller." Should it be identified more specifically than that?
Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.Thank you Japamac (as well as BDAqua). I was afraid I'd find myself in one of these "it could be one or the other" situations, and here I am. Not sure if I care to invest in another eSATA drive with my current Addonics controller card, or if I should simply steer clear.
To BDAqua, I appreciate the link. I checked out that material, as well as, some of the links included there. I found some interesting (and somewhat disappointing) info regarding the Western Digital EAV drive series, of which my Fantom Green, is one. I'm afraid I still don't know what chipset the Fantom case utilizes.
I'm probably going to use this drive only to back up A/V files (possibly only via USB), and purchase an external FW800 for some editing work.
Still one lingering question: Any thoughts as to why I could transfer 8GB files from this drive to the Mac's internal via eSATA in approx. 3 minutes, but can't regularly playback a 12 second, 30MB Quicktime clip. Attempting to do so almost always causes the drive icon to disappear, and triggers the "Device Removal" dialog? Such behavior makes me question if there is something other than the hardware at fault.
Regardless, I've learned a lot. My thanks to everyone. -
[ms-1719/gx700] - windows 7 64bit - mass storage controller driver missing
Hi,
I have a question about finding/installing the mass storage controller driver, after a clean install of win7 sp1 64bit (home edition).
I bought a new drive (Seagate ST9500420AS), onto which I installed the OS.
I thought the OS itself was supposed to install this driver?.....I looked at Seagate's site and they say the same thing. For good measure I used the "live update 5" MSI utility to see if they could provide it for my mobo....nothing useful came up there, and also looked at their page for my laptop model (GX700) no such drivers available either....neither for XP/Vista, let alone win7 64bit.
After installing the OS I also went out to Intel's site and downloaded/installed the latest chipset drivers for my mobo/chipset as well.....that didnt fix it.
so question is, where can I find this if none of the above worked??.
here's my detailed specs page:

thanks,
paulguys,
thanks a lot for the quick replies.
@Stu:
I was actually wondering about those...if those micro reader drivers were what I needed...thanks for confirming and point at the x64 version. I'll put them on pretty soon, see what happens.
@Henry,
no, I wasnt aware about that at all.....but now that you mentioned it, it makes sense, the difference between my old sata1 and the new sata2. I am pretty inexperienced when it comes to messing w/ hardware, so the question is where would I get a jumper block like that?
also if I leave it as I have for the last 2 months since I had the new HD, what could happen w/out our the jumper block?....data loss/corruption, anything like that or worse??.....just wondering if it'd be ok for me to leave it as is, or if there are any issues that can come up, for which it'd be worth for me to get the jumper and install it as you mention.
also if not having this jumper does cause any issues, I was wonder if it could cause certain blank-out crashes that I've been having, which seemed so far to be related to vidcard.....but not sure if this difference between sata1 and sata2 could actually be causing these....here is the thread for that if you have any thoughts...

How can I fix Intel 5 series/3400 USB driver installation problem?
I am using Boot Camp to install Windows 7 64 bit on an iMac (mid 2010). After Windows and Apple Windows drivers are installed, I get an error message about the Intel 5 series/3400 Series Chipset Family USB Universal Host controller 3B3B failing to install. Reinstalling the driver does not work. I get the yellow triangle with the exclamation mark on the computer icon in the list of devices, indicating there is a problem.
I searched for this problem on the Apple website. I found info about this exact issue with the MacBook Pro, (mid 2010), Windows 7 64 bit and Boot Camp. The article said to ignore it, that this wouldn't be a problem. Would this also not be a problem for my iMac?
Any comments or suggestions?
