Intel 865 problems

I have the i865 intel on board graphics but have no 3d acceleration. I tried to use the patch for the i915 module but after running "sh install.sh" I got the message that DRI drivers cannot be installed without the latest kernel modules. But I am up to date with everything.

1) you did load the GLX module in xorg.conf, right? (the line above the one with dri)
2) DRI needs extra memory (no idea what exactly is behind this as my knowledge isn't that deep), so it might be that if you for instance have allocated 8MB for the card in your bios. if you then try to run 1280x1024-24 (possible) there might not be enough left. so it's a good idea to increase the ammount of memory. twice of what you expect your desktop resolution to take up is always a good idea.

  • Will a GFX5900SP-VT fit in a Intel 865 perl?

I am buying an Intel 865 Perl for my new system, to go along with a 2.8 HT (the 3.0 is still too expensive here in Brazil)and 512 if ram, and I´m also planning on getting a MSI GFX 5900 SP-VT 256.  But I read that size culd be a problem with 865 PE Mobos.
Could I have a problem here?
My other option is to go with GFX 5600 256-vivo and maybe get 1 gig or ram or perhaps squeeze my wallet and get a 3.0 processor.
I could also consider getting a ASUS P4C800 deluxe instead of the 865 perl.
Since my main concern is stability over pure performance, I´m in favor of the Intel 865 perl with the 2.8 ht processor and the GFX 5900...
Anyways...does anybody knows if it will fit?
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Hi there.
you may have trouble in many mobos with the intel865 and intel875 because of the sink or fan that may be on top of the chipset.
    http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/gffx/gffx-13.html
If I where u, I would buy the asus P4C800 because it's probably one of the best mobos arround

  • Intel 865 and 875 chipsets: A bad idea?

Since I started building PC compatible computers, I have used a lot of different motherboards whith different chipsets, video cards, cpu's, peripherals, soundcards, ram types, etc. I always had a problem or two when building a new system, but I also always found a solution. But I think I never had so many problems as I am having now with my new 865PE Neo2 LS system.
Every day I see more and more people with problems with their 865/875 chipset computers. In this same forum lot's of people ask for help with their systems. Random reboots, blue screens, unstable systems are the most common problems. Almost ALL this problems are Windows XP related. This problems persist, even when they (me too) have changed EVERY pci card, agp video card, and even ram, leaving only the Cpu and motherboard to be replaced (and loose some money in the process). I have started to wonder if 865 and 875 chipsets are XP friendly.
My last system was an Intel 850 chipset board with a pentium 2.4 GHz and rambus rdram. I NEVER had a blue screen, less a random system restart, even when I used the most strange cards and peripherals.
I have started to wonder if this new system was worth it. Is it worth buying an Intel 2.4C HT Cpu when you just can´t enable HT because your system becomes unstable?. Does it make sense to buy an 865PE motherboard with faster memory bandwith, when you have to use windows 98 or ME?.
Right now I am using windows ME because I was writing this same thread in XP and my system rebooted.
So, here I am, waiting for a new chipset to appear, and more money to be collected, so I can build a computer I can USE.
I am even hoping prescott cpu's can't be used with this board, so I can have an excuse to change my system.
Sad, but at this point it is probably the only thing left me to do, and also for a lot of other people out there.

Well I'm sorry that you have had such bad luck with Intels newest Product ....I myself have had nothing but Praise for Both of the Chipsets, as I own Both Flavors, I have a brand New ABIT IC7-MAX3(i875) MSI-6758-FIS2R(i875) and My Wifes I865PE-LIS2R, and aside from minor bugs, Which I have found to be More of the Memory Makers Fault than Intels for trying to shoot Modules out there without taking the time for a true extensive testing period, so they could see that these Chipsets are like no others that came before them....Are they "Picky" or "Tempermental" absolutely, do they give us the Memory Bandwith (Up to 6.4 GB/Sec) that we could only dream of 12 Months ago?....I say yes.....I really dont think that you are going to see Intel vary to far from this Chipset, You may see a revision change but, dont hold your breath on something completly different (except for PCI and AGP Bus Revisions) until Intel finally Desides to go with a 64 BIT Desktop CPU ................Sean REILLY875

  • Solaris 2.8 on Intel Installation Problem

When attempting to install Solaris on Intel 2.8, everythin g goes fine and the files are copied, but it fails at the end with the following message:
    Customizing system files
    - Mount Point table (etc/vfstab)
    - Network host address (etc/hosts)
Error: Could not copy file (tmp/root/etc/openwin/etc/devdata/SUNWaccel/monitors/pnp/edidgen.vda) to
    (/a/etc/openwin/etc/devdata/SUNWaccel/monitors/pnp/edidgen.vda)
Error: Unable to copy a temporary file to it's final location
I have tried this time and time again, should I disable PNP in my Bios or what could be the cause of my problems?
    Thanks in advance

Looks like the failure that you are having is when the install program is trying to copy the PNP moniter spec from the /tmp location to the /etc location. May be for some reason the edidgen.vda never got created in the first place.
Can you please mention the version of Solaris 8 you are installing and if you have a plug and play monitor.

  • MSI x48c PLatinum and Intel E8600 Problem

    Hello, I'm from Greece
    My computer Setup is:
Mobo: MSI X48C Platinum (bios version 7.0)
CPU: INTEL CORE 2 DUO E8600
    PSU: HEROLCHI 525 Watt
    RAM: OCZ OCZ3SOE10664GK DDR3 4GB (2x2GB)
    VGA: Albatron 8800 GTS
    HDD: WD 300GB SATA
    The problem is:
I bought them yesterday because i want to upgrade my system.
I connect them all properly in my case and after i turn the PC on it freeze in the MSI logo screen and cant even enter BIOS Setup.
The first time i turned the power on a message like: "Your previous overclockinn atempt was not succssefull. Press a button except del to load defaults and continue." i do what it said and freeze after that message.
This just the first time, the other times it just freeze on the logo screen. Some times it beeps one time and reset by his own and sometimes beeps four times and then reset. The most of the times it just freezes in the logo screen.
I took everything off and reinstall them. Nothing Happen.
I tried with one dimm of RAM each time in deferent positions. Nothing Happen.
I did o clear CMOS from the back button. Nothing Happen.
I perform a clear CMOS with the old method (unplug power, remove battery, wait for a couple o minutes). Nothing Happens.
I believe the problem is with the bios version i have and the CPU compatibility. I look at www.msi.com.tw and it said that this board its compatible with the INTEL E8600 but only at the 7.2 version.
How will i update my bios if my computer doesnt even enter bios setup?
Please help me. any suggestion. I'm losing my mind here!
    Thanks you in advance.

the only thing i can suggest is to drop in a 7.0 compatible CPU (if you can) and flash the BIOS to 7.2 that way then switch back in your new CPU.  A painful process, I know ...  Alternatively, if your retailer is friendly they might set it up on a test bench for you and flash it.

Like Andrew mentioned, this is the only way out though it is a long painful process.
The other is to get a board that is compatible to the E8600 right out of the box.

  • Does the Intel have problems with flip4mac?

Hi, I have a new intel Core 2 duo iMac and there are two websites that I cannot view flip4mac plugsin on but I can on all other websites. My powerpc eMac can view the websites (videos) that I can't view on my iMac and both of my computers have the exact same system software, Safari versions, Firefox versions, and they both have flip4mac version 2.2.0.49. The only difference is one computer is a powerpc and the other one is an intel.
Apple has not been able to help me. Does anyone else have this problem with their intel iMacs?
    Thank you!
    Martha

The reason I didn't put the links is because on both sites, you have to put in your email address to register. Anyway...
    Try this website out:
    http://www.crenshawchristiancenter.net/ecomm/index.php?option=com_content&task=v iew&id=2&Itemid=4
Put your mouse on "Media", go to "Ever Increasing Faith" and a new window will launch, then click on "archives." None of the archives or any links in that new wndow will work on my iMac.
    The other website is:
    www.godslearningchannel.com
You don't click on anything on the left side, you go down to below where it says:
"The GLC bookstore is proudly carrying V!BE. Click here for more information."
Go below that and you will see a moving box and you click on THAT. It will then ask for a faith pass, you put in an email address and then you can see the video link that is not working for me.
God's learning channel will NEVER send you anything even though you "joined".
I eagerly wait to see if you can view either videos.
    Thanks,
    Martha

  • [kinda SOLVED]video-intel KMS problems

    Hello everyone.
I did a fresh install and I'd really appreciate some help setting up KMS properly.
So far I'm able to run gnome-shell with all the effects,
    but:
    1. I only get 1024x768 resolution instead of my native: 1920x1080.
    2. console is limited to small area when booting up (even though I did as the wiki suggests)
    3. I followed the wiki:(https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel) step by step, several times
but nothing I do seems to have any effect!
At last, I decided to stop rebooting and ask for help.
    please help me troubleshoot this!
    thank you for your time!
    p.s.1 here's a similar topic I found
though in my case I don't get weird artifacts
p.s.2. my graphics card is the one built in core i5.
[edit] I just fixed the resolution problem: for some unknown reason, gnome did not have my monitor selected by default
instead it defaulted to an "unknown device" which only supports 800χ600 and 1024χ1768. Weird.

Are you using a laptop or desktop?
Cause I had a similar problem with a nettop with an Intel Atom procesor; the fix for me was to disable the LVDS in grub to get working my native resolution.

  • Migrating from 1.25Ghz G4 to Intel iMac problem

    Hi there!
    Question in brief:
Can I install old (non-universal) software (such as IDCS2 and Qk6.5) on a new Intel iMac?
    Question at length:
Just got a new iMac here, and wanteed to do a migration (which I've done problem-free between PCC Macs) and have hit upon a problem. The new iMac will not see the old Mac (connections/cables/old mac have been tested). New man just says "Waiting for your old mac to restart"
I came here looking for an answer, and fount this post
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4753948&#4753948
So it looks like it's going to be a LONG job. Can I just reinstall non-universal 3rd party apps from original CDs? We have NO universal software at all.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Kappy
Thanks for your reply. Sorry for not being clear enough – ou see I'm not exactly sure of what migration assistant is capable of.
I know that when you connect the two macs MA Upon start up (Migration Assistant) can copy the user settings. I presumed it could do this because it was copying over the newer mac's user settings at a point where the newer mac a total access to the drive. I therefore presumed that if (instead) the iMac had been started up, and then I ran MA, it would not be able to replace the user data, because it is in use.
That link I put in the original post said that I shouldn't do applications via MA from a PPC to an Intel one. So I'll have to reinstall those from the original disks. That's O.K., right?
    Thanks again ;0)

  • P45 Q6600 Intel EIST problem

    Hi All,
    I have a Q6600 on a P45 neo3.
The cpu is overclocked by increasing the FSB Frequency.
I would work with a greater FSB using a lower multiplier (x8), so disabling Intel EIST.
The problem is that I run linux and disabling Intel EIST result in an unknown CPU and the cpu scaling doesn't work at all.
Has anyone the same problem ?

    Uhm,
I'm not sure that's the right way !
I can run my q6600 at 3ghz (333 x 9) with linux (I don't use windows, I have installed it only for benchmark ) and my cpu is recognized and it's scaled fine. If I disable EIST the cpu isn't recognised and it's not scaled.
It seems that EIST is important

  • Solaris8 intel keyboard problem

I have been unable to make one key ("| \" on english keyboard or "<>" on spanish keyboard) work on either of my machines. The installation worked fine on both boxes but much to my surprise, neither of them have that key working. Incidentaly one box is a Pentium 4 PC and the other is an IBM laptop. I am using solaris 8 intel version 10/01.
After finding out, I ran the DCA on both machines and the key seems dead. Although using the DCA from the solaris 7 version the key seems to work. A Solaris 7 installation works fine.
Has anybody heard of this problem before.

Should be sufficient to apply the latest patch cluster to the 10/01 Solaris 8 installation. This way you save $20!
Running kdmconfig afterwards might be necessary, too.
I've never had a problem with my German keyborad BTW, not in Solaris 7 (FCS) and not in 8 (01/01 with latest patch cluster).

  • Z60T + INTEL SSD problem!

    Hi,
I want to chance the old HAD from a Z60T to a Intel SSD.
    Notebook type: 2511-EJG
    SSD Model: SSDSA2M160G2GC
I had cloned the dates from the old HDD with Acronis True Image Home 2010 to the Intel SSD.
But after installing the SSD into the laptop the OS do not boot. I had contacted the lenovo telephone support but they can't help me to find the reason.
After checking some theadsof this forum I have the idée it can bee a problem with the SATA1/ SATA2 respectively 1.5 Gb/sec / 3 Gb/sec media transfer rat compatibility.
Is that the problem? And how can I fix it?
Tanks and sorry for my bad English skills. I hope you still understand me.

    admindrey, welcome to the forum,
please try cloning again, but this time with the SSD inserted in the primary hdd slot in your Z60. The original drive in an usb external enclosure and boot from an Acronis rescue cd you can create with Acronis.
Let us know how you get on.

  • Imac intel browser problem

I am using a iMac intel 2Ghz core duo, on 10.6.8, it is about 8 years old, and very recently I have been experiencing a problem with Safari, when I try to open a webpage the progress bar will start to move the it will lock up, if I do a reboot, it will rectify the problem temporarily, but then the problem returns, I have turned off the IPV6, all to no avail.
I am using the new BT Hub 4, and it does not appear to be a router problem, as everything else is working fine, i.e. two ipads, and a Macbook Pro.
Maybe the old lass is getting a bit old.
    Any Ideas
    Many Thanks.

Have you tried emptying the cache or resetting Safari?  In the Menu bar go to Safari >> Reset Safari.  This will give you numerous options of browser items you can reset.  On a more lighter note you can try emptying the cache which is Safari >> Empty Cache.  This will clear files that Safari stores to help previous webpages load faster.

  • Intel AMT problem

Recently, I updated the AMT to 4.2 on my t400. This new release seems not compatible with Win7. It appears that everytime I start the laptop the Intel AMT icon does not pop up until 2~3 minutes later. It seriously slows down the startup. Everytime I have to wait for the AMT icon to show up before running any programs. When I open the Intel Management and Security Status, it shows the TPM is active and enabled, but unowned.
How do I solve this problem? ( I have flashed the bios to the latest version. But it doesn't work)

Looking into the XML file I found the name of the .inf file used...
Searched them and found them in :
