Intel AMT and WIFI sync

I have a T410 Thinkpad that I did a fresh WinXP SP3 install.  I have all the drivers and am good there but every time the WIFI connects to a stored profile, I get a message that the WIFI is configured to sync with the Active Management Technology and asks me if I want to sync the connection profile.  Whether I hit YES or NO the message keeps popping up everytime the WIFI connects.  Anyone know how to turn that setting off or make it so that the choice is permanent?

This happened to me again when I updated to Intel Wireless LAN 15.6.1 (21 May 2013).
As rheath suggests above, the problem can be solved by applying MIGR-74274 (Registry Patch to Disable AMT Profile Synchronization Pop-up for Windows 7 and Vista - ThinkPad).
But we shouldn't have to hope we can find a fix -- Lenovo should include it in the Intel Wireless LAN distribution.
Hope that helps,
John

  • To Apple engineers: Home sharing and wifi sync not working after fresh install

Have been using wifi sync and home sharing on my Macbook 5,1 since its early debut.
Since Macbook 5,1 is old i am using it to stream MP4 files to my Apple TV.
The functionality has been working fine throughout the OSX iterations; then came Mavericks.
Now my iTunes library will not sync with Apple TV3, nor will my iPhone 5/iPad 3 wirelessly sync with my iTunes library.
For some reason since upgrading to Mavericks the thing wont work under normal boot.
Restarting in Safe mode solves the problem. Assuming it was some erroneous configuration i went through troubleshooting steps to try and resolve it.
First i uninstalled any third party apps.
Then i repaired, went through Maintenance and Cleaning of the system using Onyx
Then i tried manually removing third party boot kexts from the System Library and user Library
Then i tried reinstalling OSX via the recovery partition (cmd+r on boot time)
Finally i tried a full system erase and reinstall via an external bootable Mavericks USB.
After all these steps the problem persists.
There should be no hardware failure since it works fine in Safe mode and doing a clean install verifies that there are no third party conflicts with the system since iTunes was executed immediately after booting up for the first time.
This raises the concern that there seems to be some sort of system kext misconfiguration by the Apple engineers.
When executing iTunes the following errors are being displayed in the system log (via Console):

  • Cable network and wifi sync

My pc is connected to the router using an ethernet cable.  My iPhone5 is connected to the same router via WiFi.  Is there a way to sync my iPhone 5 with this setup and how?  Thanks.

You can sync your iPhone to your computer using either a USB cable or WiFi.

  • ITunes video jumps when using iPhone (wifi sync enabled)

    Hello,
I have had many issues with wireless sync for my iPhone, but I am going to focus on one issue here:
(When the wireless syncing is working) and I am watching a film, video podcast, TV show... anything video, on iTunes, if I open my iPhone (not physically connected to the PC) to look at something, maybe just to check the time, the video on iTunes stutters to a halt for a little while. Now, I know this has got to be to do with the iPhone checking in with iTunes wirelessly, almost a ping-negotiation-authentication thing, but is there any way to stop is messing up what I am watching? It is very annoying.
I have Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit, iTunes 10.5.3 64-bit, (iPhone iOS 5.0.1), a 1GB Graphics Card, a Core2Duo 2.4Ghz CPU, and 4GB RAM, so it is not like I am underspec'd, and it does seem to be specifically iTunes and wifi-sync related.
Has anyone else experienced this, and has anyone else solved this?

    Hi there,
I also have this exact same problem and have struggled to find any solution that works, and until now have not found anyone else with the same problem.
I would be interested to hear if anyone has any suggestions on how to resolve this.
    I have Windows 7, 32-bit, iTunes 10.5.3.3, iPhone 4 (iOS 5.0.1), 4GB RAM, Intel Quad 2.4Ghz, nVidia GeForce 8800 GT... so as with Buonacorsi, I don't think I'm underspec'd.
I can confirm that if I switch off iPhone wifi syncing I don't have any problems. I keep switching off wifi syncing, but I find more and more that I want to use that function so it is quite annoying.
Anyway, looking forward to hearing any thoughts...

  • Wifi Sync button not showing up on iPhone 5

So. New iPhone 5, everything updated, and Wifi Sync works just fine. However, no matter what I do, the message under general>itunes wifi sync never changes from "To enable Wi-Fi syncing with iTunes, connect to iTunes on your computer using a cable and click 'Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi". I have no button within that menu, greyed out or otherwise, and no ability to push a sync from the iPhone. Anyone else having this issue/solved it? This is the third iPhone I've had in the last week, with two replacements already. I'd love to have a fully functional phone. Thank you!

Are you syncing music to the iPhone automatically or manually? Do you see an error message when syncing the music to the iPhone?
Take a look at this Apple doc -> iOS: Syncing with iTunes
Just connect the iPhone to to the MacBook Pro, open iTunes, click the iPhone icon in iTunes, click the Music tab, and check sync music.

  • WiFi Sync Problems

    Hi,
I have the latest iTunes (10.5.1.4) running on my Windows 7 64 bit PC.
    I have an iPad (ver.1) running iOs 5.0 (9A334).
After installing iTunes, I connected the iPad using the USB cable, checked "Sync with this iPad over Wi-Fi", and performed the initial sync.
When sync was complete I unplugged the USB cable and my iPad remained iniTunes under the DEVICES section.
I was able to perform all sync's using only the WiFi connection.
    Everything worked perfectly.
Then I rebooted my PC and restarted iTunes.
My iPad is no longer listed under devices and WiFi syncing is non possible.
Why is iTunes forgetting my sysn settings?
I have not seen an answer to this question.  When WiFi Sync works, it's GREAT.  But I can't get it to work after the initial time.
    Once I reboot, it's gone.

Well, I tried a basic restore and it fails with error code 10. Phone is now a very nicely designed paper weight...

  • [W520] Can't install updates for Intel WiDi or WiFi drivers

The Lenovo ThinkVantage System Update is telling me there are Intel WiDi and WiFi drivers available.  When I try to install them they seem to install fine, I get a Windows pop-up saying 'you're new hardware has installed correctly', then my system restarts and the updates are still listed as new available updates.  In the ThinkVantage update history it says for both "Did not install".  When I look at the driver version for the WiFi driver it is 14.03.0000.0 but I already have version 15.1.0.18 according to the ThinkBantage Toolbox System Information.  So I already have the newest drivers?  Why is the Update tool prompting for these updates?  Should I just hide these updates?  I don't care about WiDi but I'd like to have the newest WiFi drivers.

  • Wifi sync not working after ios6

I have upgraded all my devices to latest ios6 and now wifi sync does not work. I have 2 devices syncing to windows Xp laptop which are not syncing. I also have an additional iPad syncing to my iMac. None of them are working as of late. Tried rebooting everything and wifi sync is intermittent at best. Bottom line, seems like an ios6 problem, but not finding a lot of help. Any suggestions?

Ironically, updating to iOS 6.0.1, at least for now - seems to have made WiFi sync more reliable for me on my iPad 3, and my MacBook running OS X 10.7.4 and the latest version of iTunes.
if you have quit iTunes, rebooted your devices and restarted the computers and that didn't help, this is what I would suggest next ... And in no particular order.
Turn WiFi off on your iPad, restart it and then turn WiFi on again.
Try rebooting your router. Even though you may have Internet connectivity with all devices, rebooting the router might just work anyway.
Connect the iPad to your computer and launch iTunes, select the iPad under devices, click on the Summary Tab and uncheck Sync this iPad over WiFi. Click on Apply in the lower right corner. Sync your iPad. After the sync completes, go back to the Summary Tab. Click on Sync this iPad over WiFi. Click on Apply and wait for the changes to be applied. Quit iTunes and disconnect the iPad.
Restart your computer, launc iTunes again and see if it works now,

  • WiFi sync failures

Ever since the arrival of iOS5 and WiFi sync's much anticipated functionality, it's been unacceptably unreliable. I have 4 iOS devices that need to be kept up-to-date, but it is impossible to achieve this without failures and errors.
This morning's experience is typical. All 4 devices are listed in iTunes (10.6.1). I downloaded the available app updates and set all 4 devices to sync. Very soon there were 2 error messages, each saying one of the devices could not be sync'd as it couldn't be found on the network - so that's a 50% failure rate. At this point the device disappears from iTunes.
If I try to sync the devices consecutively it's the same. One or more will produce the above error and disappear from iTunes.
When a device has disappeared in this way but then connected by USB, it appears in iTunes again and syncs perfectly.
Even though iTunes says the device cannot be found on the network, this is very misleading since there is NOTHING wrong with the devices' network connection and EVERYTHING else is working perfectly. This crappy behaviour is all the fault of iTunes, or could be iOS5.
I cannot see how this problem is router related as has been reported elsewhere since this has NOTHING to do with routing. Yes I have a router that connects my LAN to the Internet, but my LAN contains a number of Gigabit switches and AirPort Extreme basestations for WiFi access. Nothing strange about that and as I say, it all works perfectly except for iTunes which manages to lose these devices even though they are still on the network and networking perfectly.
It is also NOTHING to do with DHCP since the IP addresses are not changing on ANY of the devices involved.
After a device has disappeared from iTunes, it will at some time re-appear, but I've not been able to determine any pattern of when they will be back.
I have to say it is VERY disappointing when Apple fail so utterly at something as fundamentally reliable as IP networking. Obviously they are trying to do something clever with these connections, but have failed miserably. Having said that, I don't believe everyone is suffering from these issues, but I also doubt I am the only one. With several iTunes updates since the introduction of iOS5, I would have hoped this would be fixed by now, but it's not.
So, does anyone have any answers to this? Is there some fix that can be applied that enables iTunes to maintain contact with the iOS devices?

Well, iOS 6 is with us and Mountain Lion and also iTunes 11 and guess what, STILL NOT FIXED.
With only 2 devices listed out of the 6 that should be there (both those had USB connections at the time) I turned off WiFi on the Mac. This doesn't affect it's networking capability since it also has a wired connection to a Gigabit switch to which the WiFi base stations (AirPort Extreme dual band) are also connected. I then turned WiFi back on and the Devices button in iTunes showed the spinning daisy wheel and soon it showed 6 devices connected, even though it took several minutes for the daisy wheel to go away.
So this raises the question of what connection method is used by iTunes for it's "Sync over WiFi" option. It has been my belief (and many others on this forum) that the iTunes Mac does not need WiFi as it simply uses the IP network, however that may physically connect, but switching WiFi off then on again on my Mac, causing the devices to re-appear in iTunes would indicate that WiFi is indeed in some way required.
I then started a sync with an iPad 3 (not connected with USB) and it's taking ages. Every step exaggeratedly slow. This is I think the first sync with iTunes 11, is that the problem? No idea, but so far it's not lost the connection, just taking over half an hour just to upload a few updated apps.
However, what IS obvious is the fact that the latest versions of all the software involved has not produced a cure. How widespread is the problem? What are the factors that determine whether iOS devices disappear from iTunes or not? It would appear that for some users, WiFi syncing is OK, so why do so many others find it so incredibly flaky?
Then there's also the question of the relevance of WiFi on the iTunes Mac. If the connection is just using Ethernet and is not wired or wireless specific, why does switching WiFi on cause iTunes to connect to the iOS devices.
Overall this is very unsatisfactory performance by Apple.

  • X201 severely crippled after disabling Intel AMT / AT in BIOS

    Hi all,
My X201 has been running great for a number of weeks now, but somehow I managed to pretty much destroy it.  Before going to do a fresh install (been trial testing different antivirus packages) I went into BIOS by hitting F1 during boot and disabled Intel AMT and Intel AT.  Since these are enterprise features I didn't think I would need them at the house here.
After disabling both and doing a save-and-quit, I got a screen saying something to the effect of "configuration updated" and it rebooted.  Except now it takes about 1 full minute to get through POST and hitting F1 takes about 15 seconds before BIOS configuration is shown.  Here is what I have observed since disabling AMT and AT...
    1) CPU fan is now disabled. The left side of the unit will get so hot it will burn your finger.
    2) From main BIOS screen, choosing the "Config" option will cause it to hang and freeze.
    3) From main BIOS screen, choosing the "Security" option will no longer show the "Intel AMT" menu option so there seemingly no way to reenable it.
    4) Waiting over a minute to get through POST and it will still boot the OS, but even when running Win7 the CPU fan will not enable.
    5) During various stages of boot (initial power-on and right after hitting F1 to get into BIOS) the CPU fan will turn on for no more than 2 seconds and then turn back off.
My 2 immediate ideas to fix this haven't panned out...
-- Created a BIOS update CD from the .iso available in the support section.  Booting from CD works but it says something to the effect of "BIOS does not been to be updated.  Process is cancelled."
-- Googling around I have been unable to find any reference to a jumper on the X201 mainboard to clear CMOS or any reference to a CMOS Clear button.
Has anyone else encountered this problem and knows a fix, or knows how to clear CMOS on the X201?  I still have over a year left on the factory warranty but I'd like to fix this myself if I can.

    knacky805:
Resetting the CMOS should resolve the issue, if you are comfortable opening your Thinkpad, you can try that. What you'll want to do is unplug the AC adapter, open up the Thinkpad, remove the battery, then the CMOS, press the power button a few times to ensure you drain the capacitors. You can then replace all components starting with the CMOS and it should restore all the default settings in BIOS including the Intel AMT settings.
Please note: Use an electrostatic discharge (ESD) strap to establish personal grounding, If you don't, you can make sure you and the computer are at Zero Potential by continuously touching an un-painted metal surface of the Thinkpad chassis.
Let us know if this solves your problem!

  • Enabling Intel AMT (Active Management Technology)

I have a P67A-G45 and would like to be able to remotely administer my desktop PC with Intel AMT.
I have BIOS 1.A and have installed the latest Intel Management Engine Driver for P67/H67 from the MSI website. In Device Manager, I have Intel(R) Management Engine Interface in System Devices.
I've downloaded Intel SCS, but when I run the wizard, I get the message "This system does not support Intel AMT, and therefore cannot be configured."
There doesn't seem to be any option for Intel AMT in the BIOS.

(ios5 ipad bugs)I can't get changes of album art, artist, album and other tags to show up in the iPad music player, but they show up correctly in the iTunes device view. Certain random songs do not sync correctly.   Wifi sync hasn't worked yet.
I mostly use technology for education and professional audiovisuals and lights.
I don't sync  music because I use music from at least 4 different computers. (manually mange music)
I use my iPad to play performance tracks for church and a local gospel group out of our church, Won4Christ.
I chose to buy the iPad because the laptop of one of the group members (dellxps running iTunes) was randomly losing and mixing up music and I wanted a more stable option that was bigger than my iPod touch.
I tried to add some data to music libraries that I previously added to my iPad, but the data only shows up when looking at the device in iTunes.
Wifi sync has not worked on either my laptop or desktop ( both running windows 7 enterprise 64 and newest iTunes) not really a big issue, but very annoying
When browsing through library playlist albums on the iPad, random artwork shows up on playlists with no artwork that you touch while dragging, and it does not go away until you change to another navigation tab and back.
Random songs out of hundreds that I added showed up in iTunes grayed out with a sync circle beside them.  Those songs would play back okay on the iPad but were unplayable through the iTunes device view.  I had to delete the songs manually through the library along with the playlist and add them again.
These seem to be major stability bugs in the "new" music app and iTunes.  My only option right now seems to be to delete the songs that I want to change and re-add them with the changes already applied rather than changing the id3 tags and artwork on the existing music. I hope apple will release updates to resolve these issues.
Thank you for actually making it to the end of this manuscript of annoyances.

Just wondered if anyone had any other suggestions.

  • Whats the difference between wifi sync and icloud?

Good afternoon...am a little confused about syncing over wifi with itunes and wirelessly with icloud.  Right now the computer I sync my devices with is an older macbook that can't be updated to Lion.  I am confused though by wifi sync ability...does my macbook have to be up and running while my ios devices are powered to sync or will the devices sync anywhere to the icloud?   Since my macbook can't update to Lion will I still be able to take advantage of this icloud goodness?  My macbook is not my main computer but it has all of my itunes content and playlists.  Hope this made sense.

My first question is this: Have your devices all been updated to iOS 5? Assuming they were running 4, then updated to 5, all your data should be on the device. From here, if you were to sync everything to the cloud, all your data will be in the cloud. It will take all the info from your devices and sync it to the cloud. However, make sure on each device you choose what you want to sync, because it will pretty much make everything the same accross all your devices. Obviously your classic isn't going to be included, so you will still need to sync that, but with the phone and the ipad, you will need to decide what you want to sync between the two. I don't own two separate devices, so I don't know exactly what the conduct between the two is, but be carefull when syncing them to the cloud.
