Intel AMT & Anti Theft

Hi All,
Anyone using Intel AMT or Anti-Theft? Are they of much use...?
Am I missing much by not using them? Been doing some googling but can't quite find what I need. They seem more aimed at corporate users rather than retail consumers.
Information appreciated.

It's easy to remove the software, and easy to disable both of these the functions in the BIOS.
Your computer came with a document entitled "User Guide" pre-installed on it.  To access the User Guide, press the start button, select 'Help and Support', then select the link entitled "User Guide" that will appear in the upper left corner of the window.  There you will find instructions explaining how to disable the feature.  Likewise for the Anti-Theft. There's also about 200 more pages of information explaining how your computer works, what you can do with it, etc.  It makes for fascinating reading.  The document is a PDF, you can save it to your desktop if you wish so that it is available whenever you want it.  You can even use the 'search' feature of Adobe Reader to instantly find topics, such as 'AMT' or 'Anti-Theft'.  This actually enables you to find information on your own in less time than it takes to make a post here in the forum asking others to find the information for you.
The anti-theft does not require or have any software  unless you have taken deliberate action to purchase and download an anti-theft service.  To remove the AMT software (if installed), press the start button, select 'Control Panel', then select 'Programs and Features', find the AMT software entry, select it, right click, and choose 'uninstall'.

  • Intel Anti Theft Service with my new X1?

Hiya, just ordered & received my new X1 with an i7 core over the last week.
Interesting and educational tracking the laptop all the way from China to UK via UPS...
Anyway, all seems to be in order apart from one small niggle.
I have noticed an "Intel Management Engine" systray icon running on the OS installed, in particular the Intel Anti Theft technology service.
My question is how do I register and enable this? There is NOTHING within the software or the printed documentation which had come with the laptop explaining this. There are no buttons on the systray config screen enabling you to do anything.
When I open the systray icon it says:
    Intel AMT: Enabled
    Intel AT: Enabled
And if i got to Intel AT tab, it says: "Status as of last boot: Not Enrolled"
How the hell do I enroll? I tried going to intel's AT service webpage, and basically you need to register, however for the registration you need some kind of a code. Their website says the code should have come printed on the leaflet with the laptop.  I have the box laptop had come in, in front of me together with all the documentation - there is absolutely nothing mentioning Intel AT, no codes or anything of the kind.
Is this AT service something you have to pay extra for?
I would like to suggest Lenovo includes further information on Intel AT with their laptops supporting Intel AT which have Intel AT software preinstalled. I am an IT professional yet found Intel AT's systray options very confusing.
    What should I do?

    Hello,
    Two thoughts:
Check with your existing vendor(s) of security software to see if they offer an anti-theft module or product as an add-on to your existing license.
The open source Prey Project is another solution to investigate.

  • Intel Anti Theft on X220

    Hi all
i have a brand new X220 i7 that i really like - and would like to keep it to myself! :-)
It is equipped with Intel Anti Theft and i would like to activate it.  As far as i understand, it takes some service provider to activate it and that provider will keep track of the device and send a 'kill-pill' if i request it.
I have contacted Lenovo in Denmark, but they only gave me a link to some company that provide some protection software.
Does anyone know any Intel anti theft service provider in Denmark/Europe??

  • Intel Anti-Theft Recovery Screen

Hi, I own an HP 8540w laptop which I no longer have proof of purchase for. Recently, the laptop got wet and no longer booted up so I purchased a used motherboard off of ebay and now after installing I get the following screen.
"This Computer is currently in a Stolen State.
To recover, you must present the correct passphrase"
    ISV id: 2000
I have never set this up on my laptop but it must have been triggered from the replacement motherboard I put in. Can someone tell me how I would go about getting rid of this Intel Anti-Theft Recovery Screen?
    Thanks

    Works perfectly!

  • Intel Anti-Theft Technology: Low cost enterprise options

Working in education, I'm looking for a low cost option for implementing anti-theft tech. All we need is a way to disable stolen computers, in order to deter thieves in the future. We don't expect to recover stolen equipment, so tracking is not needed. Computrace is too expensive. SecureDisable seems like a good option without unnecessary features, but still seems like a lot for a simple service.
Anybody have any experience in this area?
Are pay services absolutely required for this tech? What about writing a custom management plug-in?

  • Remove anti theft security

Hello, I installed the Intel anti theft technology I my t420 and it crash, now I have this thing on my bios and I can't take it of.
    Can someone help me?

It is used to block access on one of a group of machines from a central site. If yours is blocked, either it should be blocked or you can talk to the system administrator to unblock it. It does not block access if the system crashes.

  • Intel AMT problem

Recently, I updated the AMT to 4.2 on my t400. This new release seems not compatible with Win7. It appears that everytime I start the laptop the Intel AMT icon does not pop up until 2~3 minutes later. It seriously slows down the startup. Everytime I have to wait for the AMT icon to show up before running any programs. When I open the Intel Management and Security Status, it shows the TPM is active and enabled, but unowned.
How do I solve this problem? ( I have flashed the bios to the latest version. But it doesn't work)

Looking into the XML file I found the name of the .inf file used...
Searched them and found them in :
    C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\heci.inf_amd64_6282584de27de808

  • Security, anti-theft

    Hi,
Last week I bought a cellphone and it was lifted out of my car in less than 12 hours. I now have a brand new Bold. I hesitated in buying it since it is a valuable commodity, but I was told that the anti-theft features were quite good. Apparently the phone can be tracked via GPS if you activate it immediately. I have also heard about monitoring software that works in the background and can send out security details if the SIM card is ever changed.
I learned of PhoneBAK BB, which is an application available at Download.com and which has a high rating according to the site managers.
Has anyone heard of this? Are there other security options available that anyone has had any experience with?
Does anyone know of a website that explains how to secure a cellphone against theft?
I would be quite interested in hearing about it.
    Cheers,
    Mikey53

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
While there is no way to really secure a device "against theft", there are measures you can take to do the things you discuss -- but IMHO the device itself is a commodity. The data contained on it, however, is potentially priceless. Hence, there are two things that BB's have that I consider invaluable:
    1) Backups -- the desktop software lets you backup all of your critical data. Further, if you are synchronizing with a desktop PIM, your data is already backed up there.
KB12487 How to backup data on a BlackBerry smartphone
KB17022 How to configure synchronization settings for BlackBerry Desktop Manager
    2) Device Password -- once activated, this will be required to unlock the device. After 10 sequential failed attempts, the device will wipe itself clean of all of your personal data.
KB16307 Actions that the BlackBerry smartphone performs during a BlackBerry smartphone wipe processes
With those two measures, I consider anything else to be somewhat useless...replacing the device is simple (yes, it could cost $$$, but it is easy)...replacing the data is really hard. And protecting that data from others is IMO essential.
    Hope that helps!

  • T61p + Windows 7 64bit + Intel AMT Drivers.

    Hi all,
I've recently installed Windows 7 x64 on my T61p (6459-CTO). I've installed the drivers and all the devices and running fine except two:
    PCI Serial Port
    PCI Simple Communications Controller
After a failing to find drivers for these, I googled the issue and found that it is quite likely related to Intel AMT. So I've searched for the Windows 7 drivers for Intel AMT for my laptop but I can't see any.
I've installed and run Lenovo System Update v4 and it hasn't picked it up although the Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox Diagnotics does alert that the drivers are missing for the 2 devices. However, it too doesn't show where to get them from.
There seem to be a lot of posts for this issue for the T400/T500 models but nothing for the T61p.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I experienced the same issue, and here is my resolution for my t61p running windows 7 x64:
download the 2 AMT drivers from the lenovo driver site:
Local Manageability Service and Serial Over LAN (Intel AMT 2.6)
    Windows Vista, XP
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67881
Management Engine Interface (Intel AMT 2.6)
    Windows Vista, XP
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67880
Let the files extract to their folders (using the downloaded exe files) (C:\drivers\win\amt and \amtsol)
for the PCI Serial Port, tell the update driver wizard to look in c:\drivers\win\amtsol
for the PCI Simple Communications Controller tell it to look in c:\drivers\win\amt
this should locate the missing drivers for you.
