Intel-based Photoshop: updated SDK?

Any news?

I heard it goes to no where when it involves an Adobe product! Use this link and ask for the SDK. In that request ask to be on the beta program for Photoshop.

I just had a discussion about the percs of an ASN membership should be a direct access to the beta program for that product.

  • In attempting to install recommended software updates I get a message saying my startup disc is full.  I have an Intel-based desktop with 1GB memory.  What can I safely remove?

In attempting to install recommended software updates I get a message that my startup disc is full.  I have an iMac (intel-based) with 1GB memory.  I suspect my iTunes library is using up much of the space (I have no movies installed and have already copied most of my photos to a DVD to free up space).  If I follow the instructions to move my iTunes library to an external HD (can I use a flash drive?) will I have enough working memory to plug it back in for use when I want to access the library?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Moving libraries off the boot disk while doable is not very viable.  It creates many new problems in backing up your data, as now you have more than one source to backup.    See my backup FAQ*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
My suggestion is to get at least two copies of all your essential data in one manner or another, and get a larger boot hard drive to replace what you currently use to be able to consolidate your libraries.
As for cleaning space, see my FAQ*:

  • Photoshop 6.0 on Intel based iMac

Hi, I'm new to Macs and I just bought an old copy of photoshop 6.0. Just tried to install it on my Intel based iMac and it said that the application wasn't supported on my system. Is there any way around this or should I return the software and save for a later version? Been looking for advice on here but haven't had much luck. A lot of mention of something called Rosetta?
    Help me please!!
iMac (intel)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Return the software and get Photoshop CS or CS2 at the least. Otherwise you can wait till 07 to get the intel native CS3. I think it's coming out in the Second quarter.
Earlier versions of photoshop weren't native to OS X. We used to be able to get around that by a stopgap measure called "Classic" that actually booted OS 9 in a shell inside OS X. Since the move to intel, classic no longer works. That's why you need an OS X native version of Photoshop.

  • How can I check for spyware on my Intel based mid-2007 iMac running Lion?

I recently received a message stating that my Intel based iMac desktop may contain spyware plus a friend sent me a copy of an email to my iCloud email address that i did not send to him, i was not even home using my iMac on that date. I do have anti-virus software on my iMac from Integra and I do a scan each day before i shutdown the iMac and have not received any such warnings from that software.
I do appreciate any and all advise I can receive in this matter. A long time ago I did receive an email a Yahoo based email address and was notified that I could possibly loose my email account due to junk email being sent from my iMac. I did have the support/warranty from Apple at that time and a phone rep did talk me through steps to check for any intrusion to my iMac with negative results, the iMac was clear of any spyware, etc.
Hoping there is the same for this issue.

You can't use a specific Mac OS X disc for a Mac with a different computer. First, call Apple and buy Mac OS X Snow Leopard > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 Then, make a backup, insert the DVD and upgrade OS X. Finally, open  > Software Update and install the most recent version

  • HT4736 Taking too long (2 minutes) to locate and download photos into Photo '11 9.5 (902.7 build running on an older Intel based MacBook Pro with iPhoto libraries on a USB2 External HD).  I checked and repaired HD permissions. Any ideas?

Regarding iPhoto '11 9.5 (902.7 build running on an older Intel based MacBook Pro with iPhoto libraries on a USB2 External HD).  I am dealing with iPhoto taking too long to download photos.  Specifically, I rechecked and repaired HD permissions. I am running the most current software my five year old Intel MacBook Pro can run.   What happens is that when I connect an external SD card, or my iPhone, the new version of iPhoto takes up to two full minutes to fully acknowledge the device. Then locate new photos and be ready to download them to my external HD.  I am kind of concerned about this.  This has never happened before.
I take 20,000 photos a year.  I really don't want to lose any.  Or is there something I am doing wrong?  Or need to be aware of?  Any experienced suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.  Have a great day.
PS.... The cameras I use are Canon SX-30, Nikon D3100, and my iPhone 4S.  Thanks again for your assistance.

Hello Old Toad.... Those sound like great ideas.
I thought I checked and repaired disk permissions on my main boot HD.  That boot disk is Mac OS Extended (Journaled)  Capacity 749.3 GB.  Available 562.53 GB.   BUT.... now that I think of it.... the Seagate external HD with USB2 interface is: Mac OS Extended (Journaled), Capacity 639.79 GB, Available 36.2 GB with my latest iPhoto Library 517.37 GB that was already scanned & updated to be read by the latest iPhoto version.
I'll try your suggestions tonight as far as double checking 'permissions' and setting up a tiny test library.
Or maybe it's time to fill up another External HD?
I appreciate your and anyone else's suggestions to try.
Have a great day. ~~ David in Rochester NY

  • Problems with Photoshop Updates (12.0.3, 12.0.4)

When i tried to install the photoshop updates 12.0.3 and 12.0.4, it doesn't worked (win7, 64bit). So i reinstalled photoshop and tried again to install the updates, but it failed again. After ps deinstallation and installation, the update of the clean version 12.0  from within photoshop now worked and i got a 12.0.4 version.
But what's about the updates before (12.0.1/2/3) ?  Must i install them too ?  Must it be installed before the 12.0.4 ?  Where can i find the download-files for the updates 12.0.1 and 12.0.2 ?  Why failed the installation of the update 12.0.3 again (after the 12.0.4 install) ?
    thx.

No.  The updates are always cumulative.

  • Is there any workaround at all to run PM7 on a Intel-based Mac?

    Dear friends:
I have recently purchased a MacBook Pro and, before I did, I asked some questions to Apple about the possibility of having the software pre-installed, specifically, BootCamp and Classic, receiving the computer with a partition already made and requirements of the sort. Basically, Technical Support told me that they were not able to perform any of these tasks, although the person I have spoken to said to me that I could run PageMaker (I think he mentioned an update). After a couple of days researching, it appears that I have been misinformed. Unfortunately I have several hundreds of PageMaker files in archive, and I cannot afford to lose the ability to open them directly (I am a radical InDesign fan, I have used it since v.1.0). Does anybody know any workaround at all to run PageMaker 7 on a Intel-based Mac? Maybe some software to emulate the Classic? Maybe an upgrade or a third-party application? I cannot believe that MacOS supports Windows (in fact, I have installed Windows Vista) better than its predecessor Mac OS 9.2.2.
Thanks a lot for your time,
    Eduardo Guarniz

    >Does anybody know any workaround at all to run PageMaker 7 on a Intel-based Mac?
Well there are two ways. the best way is to have an old machine that boots OS9. If you don't have one, buy one. I found one for about $69 a few years ago I'm sure they are even cheaper now.
There is some software called SheepShaver its supposed to run Classic apps on a Mactel. With all the problems of running PM in Classic (I would never use PM for production in Classic) Its probably even worse running on SheepShaver.
Be smart get the old machine.

  • You can't open Mail, Contacts & Calendars preferences because it doesn't work on an Intel-based Mac.

I updated my Mac to Mavericks and after that, I can't open the Mail, Contacts and Calendar preferences.
Every time I try, I get the following message:
"You can’t open Mail, Contacts & Calendars preferences because it doesn’t work on an Intel-based Mac."
I tried this workaround from the Mountain Lion thread (https://discussions.apple.com/message/21303574#21303574) but it didn't worked.
Further I deleted all files in the Library Preferences folder, but it didn't helped also.
    Can anyone help me please?

    Hi Michael,
I had the same problem. And I found a fix.
I noticed that on a different system running Mavericks without any problems, the preference pane isn't called 'Mail, Contacts & Calendars' anymore, it's now called 'Internet accounts'. The fact that it's still called by the old name on your system, means it somehow wasn't replaced while updating to Mavericks.
So the cure is pretty easy:
On a different Mavericks system, go to /System/Library/PreferencePanes/ and copy the file InternetAccounts.prefPane. Take it to the system you're trying to fix, and paste the prefPane file in the same directory. Reboot, and it should all work fine. At least it did in my case.
    Cheers
    Niels

  • Internet Sharing for PPC and Intel based Macs

I have OSX 10.4 Server running with NAT and DHCP enabled. The internet is accessed through a wired connection, and 2 Powerbooks(PPC based) and an Intel iMac and MacBook connected to the server via Airport. The wireless signal is WEP protected, and the Intel based Macs can connect to the wireless network, recieve a good IP address and access the internet. These two connected computers can be seen on the Server Admin DHCP Clients tab.
My problem is with the PPC based Mac, the 2 PowerBooks. Those computers can connect to the wirless network, but they get an invalid IP address. Not only is the IP invalid, so is the Subnet Mask.
All computers are running 10.4.7, and all installed from the Combo Updater.
    Any suggestions?

We're having the same problem here!
Rarely we manage to get the right IP address assigned to one PPC machine by playing with various network settings but we didn't found a reliable way to get the PPC machines always working.
This is really strange... any suggestion is appreciated.

  • Photoshop Touch SDK for iOS Bugs and annoyances

I've just finished implementing the "Touch" capability in my iOS app. As I can't find anywhere to post bug reports, and this may help others, here's my experience:
    BUGS:
    1. sendImage in psconnection is multiply broken:
    (a) Network communication depends on the PSRawImage C structure. However, that does not take padding into account. This may work for build settings that don't allow structure padding, it certainly doesn't work for my settings.
    (b) Pixmap support is broken. The CGBitmapContext setting (RGB 888) it attempts to use is unsupported and will throw an exception on iOS
    (c) JPEG support is broken - the (required) format byte simply isn't added to the network packet.
    2. The documentation is wrong/incomplete
    (a) It doesn't mention the format byte - you have to find that in the demo programs that don't use psconnection.
    (b) It suggests that messages to the server are acknowledged. If they are, I'd like to know where/how.
    3. The test version of Photoshop  crashes with some (not all) JPEG images:

A Google search on the crash signature above shows it has previously occurred as a result of corrupt fonts.  However (a) I'd done all the font checking etc as recommended, and (b) this only occurs for JPEGs, not pixmaps.
    Annoyances:
    1. psconnection is a huge memory hog; it creates multiple copies of images and network packets. Be prepared to rewrite if you're dealing with large images.
    2. psconnection is not thread safe. Be prepared to put in locks and inter-thread communication code.
    3. psconnection is iPad only. Be prepared to rewrite to be able to use it on an iPhone
    4. The serial number for the test version of Photoshop as provided on the Adobe site only works for a few hours, then decides that the serial number is invalid.
    Hints:
The demo programs e.g., transmitimage, do seem to work, as opposed to psconnection. However, they use their own code that doesn't do much in the way of error checking, etc.

Can we now assume that the touch SDK has been abandonned by Adobe? It's now a year after "should be updated soon", and currently if you try to download the touch SDK from this page you get the Photoshop 3 SDK instead!!!
I ask as I'm about to remove Touch support from my app; the very few people that use touch are now having problems e.g., timeouts, with the latest version of Photoshop.

  • Files Won't Open on Intel-Based Macs

We are running 10.4.11 on our Mac Pros at work, and on the two Intel-based machines you can't open any files simply by clicking on them---it merely launches the program that the files should open in and then you have to open the files from within that program directly. This happens with every program I've attempted to use: Preview, Photoshop, Office programs, etc. Anyone know of a fix for this?

    Hello,
Try running Disk Utility and Repairing Disk Permissions.
Disk Utility is in your Applications/Utilities folder. Launch DU, select MacintoshHD 10.x.x in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid button, then click, Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished, Quit Disk Utility and reboot. See if you can open the applications now.

  • Creative Suite 2 installation freezes Intel-based Mac

When you install Creative Suite 2 on an Intel-based Mac with the QuickTime 7.1 update installed, your Mac freezes.
Apple has now posted the QuickTime 7.1.1 update which resolves the freeze. Boot into Safe Boot mode by holding down the Shift key when restarting the Mac, then select Software Updates from the Apple menu and download and install QuickTime 7.1.1.
Reboot into normal mode and install the Creative Suite.

  • PowerPC and Intel based USB Drive

Is it possible to have a startup disk for both PowerPC and intel based Macs on the same USB disk?

A PowerPC can't boot from USB drives. It can be done with a FireWire drive. Partition with the Apple Partition Scheme, install PPC Tiger on one partition. Cone Tiger from an Intel Mac onto the other partition. Either Mac can boot from a disk with the Apple Partition scheme, but the Intel Macs cannot install or update it.

  • Flashhelp, Safari and Intel-based Macs

I'm having problems with my Flashhelp project properly
displaying on Intel-based Macintoshes in Safari. The project
displays all of the flash-based UI elements, but doesn't display
the topic matter itself. The exact same projects work fine with
Firefox. As far as I can tell, this is localized to Safari only on
Intel macs. Has anyone else run into this problem?
    A couple of notes:
    1. version 9,0,47,0 of the Flash Player plugin
    2. version 2.0.4 of Safari
    3. I don't believe that this is related to the stubborn Flash
security issues that have plagued Flashhelp projects, since we
automatically generate a FlashPlayerTrust cfg file for our help
system when it's installed (so that we're added to the Trusted
List, and the end user doesn't need to updated their Flash security
    settings to view our help).
    Any ideas?

Yeah, I completely understand. It's the Intel Mac / Safari
combination is our fastest growing group of users. I also have
access to a copy of Flare 3, and am exploring converting the files
over to Flare Projects and building them as Webhelp. Unfortunately,
that means that we'll be losing all of the work that we put into
our custom Flashhelp skin. Yet with all of the Flash security
issues that we've suffered through, maybe I won't miss it that
    much.

  • Photoshop Touch SDK and development platform

The photoshop touch SDK announcement is very exciting, however I own a CS5 windows license and of course I do my ipad/ipod development on Mac: given that unfortunately photoshop licenses are not cross-platform I was wondering if there is/will be a way planned for SDK developers to run photoshop on both platforms for testing etc. (maybe via a limited/timed/no-saving/... version of Photoshop on the platform we are not licensed for?)
