Intel Bluetooth Driver Causing Spontaneous Reboot While Using ThinInstaller

I have had this issue since we got our new T440p's and X240's.  I have our driver repository all set up and during my SCCM task sequence I have the Lenovo drivers and software installed using ThinInstaller.
During the second round of running ThinInstaller, the Bluetooth driver is installed.  After the Bluetooth driver is installed ThinInstaller continues installing other packages then the system spontaneously reboots.  I had this issue happen intermittently with the T440p's, but happens every time with the X240's.
My "solution" was to disable the Bluetooth driver in the repository database.  I have not experienced the reboot issue after doing this, however, now the Bluetooth driver is not getting installed.
The driver (giww10ww) is not included in the SCCM admin package and apparently cannot be installed by simply using a standard driver .inf, therefore, I cannot pre-stage the driver.
My only other idea is to modify the .xml file so I can schedule the installation after all the other packages, maybe on a third pass.  However, I am not sure how to do this, nor do I think I would like to maintain custom modifications throughout new version releases.
Am I the only one experiencing this?
Systems: T440p (20AN), X240 (20AL)
Deployed OS: Windows 7 SP1 X64
Driver: Intel Bluetooth Device Software - Initial Install - 7 [64], v.17.0.1401.418 (giww10ww)

I have done research on your   20AL and 20AN from a SYSTEM Update packages viewpoint. Both machines use the same SU packages for your bluetooth type.
https://download.lenovo.com/catalog//20AL_Win7.xml
https://download.lenovo.com/catalog//20AN_Win7.xml
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/giww10ww_764_u_2_.xml
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/giww10ww_764_i_2_.xml
If initial install of giww10,  reboot type=3  requires  reboot
If upgrade install giww10, reboot type=1  Forces a reboot
The SU package logic is reflecting what the msi.exec will do, after far as reboot type=.
Strange:
SU calls this version                                   17.0.1401.418 in their package wrapper. as does update retriever.
The download support site  states version 17.0.1401.0428 package wrapper.
- 17.0.1401.422   (Driver) < all packages will install this driver version.
It appears upgrade=force reboot, initial install=requires reboot. Are all your  240's ALWAYS getting bluetooth upgrades of the driver? .
Someone else will have to explain if there is a workaround for the force reboot, or better sequence to the install.
==
During your second run of thin installer, are you certain that the bluetooth install is FORCING a reboot, or could it be another software install Forcing the reboot?
You stated earlier possibly modifying the thin installer .xml.  Did you mean modify the .xml in the repository, which is probably built using update retriever. I stated earlier dont modify the .xml. Reason is: the reboot code is used by TI to anticipate what msi.exe will do. If the intel driver install says force reboot, you will get a force reboot. ie,changing the .xml will not change much.
Workaround?: Depending how you populate each machine, lets say image copy. Have the bluebooth driver uninstalled on the master image.
===
Is there a new release of the Bluetooth Driver without a force reboot?
Mvw
The driver is from INTEL.  Lenovo has no control of the reboot type= in the msi.exe.

I already tried reformatting my phone.. Erased all content and settings.. And still the same..
BTW my phone runs on latest iOS 5.1

Restore as a New phone. Do not restore your backup. Add your apps back. If the problem still exists you have a hardware problem. If this fixes it you have a corrupt backup.
This assumes your phone is not jailbroken. If it is all bets are off.

  • CD-RW drive disappears from entire system while using iTunes

I just installed a new CD-RW drive (master), removed all old CD burning software, and have installed the latest version of iTunes. I'm able to use the software without issues, Install CD's and Burn CD's, but after about 4-6 installs or burns my CD-RW drive disappears! iTunes will no longer recognize the drive and the drive no longer appears in My Computer or elsewhere.
I've tried physically reinstalling the drive and I've performed the steps in Microsoft Support Article ID 320553 repeatedly: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320553
After following those steps and reinstalling iTunes each time, everything appears normal and I can use iTunes for about 4-6 burns/installs and then the same issue happens again.
Note, for what it's worth, I have an old CD-RW drive also installed, but as a slave that I do not use with iTunes or for anything else. It just exists.
Is this leaning toward an iTunes problem or a burner drive problem? I don't know where else to look.

Well the issue happened again. Below is the DVD/CD Diagnostics. I then closed iTunes. I opened Device Manager and saw no ?'s or error messages. The D drive was missing again so this time I just tried the option "Scan for hardware changes" and it easily found the D drive and added it to the Device Manager. I then reopened iTunes and burned a CD with no problems. The plot thickens. Any clues?

  • Nvidia driver causing problems what should i use?

    Hi,
Just switched my hard disk to a temporary machine and the nvidia card on it is causing crashes and random freezes on my machine.
Since its just temporary, I can't be bothered to mess around with the configuration at the moment.
Could someone please tell me what would be the default driver for me to use?
I don't have need for compositing or 3d acceleration.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ali

Well seeing as how you don't need 3d perhaps nouveau might be worth a shot: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nouveau
Word is that eventually it will replace the standard "nv" driver and it will be incorporated into the 2.6.33 kernel.  In my experience the nouveau driver is faster than the standard nv.
To use it you will need to remove your current nvidia drivers and then change your xorg.conf to use nouveau.  In addition you must enable KMS which is easy enough, see the wiki.  I just happened to change from the nvidia blob to nouveau last night after installing KDE 4.4... So far I am satisfied and feel better about supporting the open source driver.

  • IPhone 5C reboots while using and restoring from a backup

This issue hasn't appeared until I updated my iPhone to iOS 8.1.1. The phone will randomly reboot itself, and especially at strange moments, like closing an app or when it's literally sitting there doing nothing. Sometimes, once it reboots itself the first time, it will reboot again, and maybe another time, then go into recovery mode (which is what iTunes told me) and just have a black screen. Recently, it did this, and it booted to the lock screen before rebooting iteself, and then again once I unlocked the phone, then back to recovery mode.
I went ahead and reinstalled iOS, and ran into my second issue. Connected via cable, I was in the process of restoring the iPhone when iTunes tells me the iPhone "disconnected" and doesn't restore the device. The phone reboots itself when I try to restore the backup, and this is with a fresh install of iOS.
I'm completely clueless at this point. I have no idea whether it happens to be a software issue, hardware issue, or the content on the phone.
I'd greatly appreciate any insight as to what might be the problem, and if there is a way to fix it. (iPhone 5C 16GB, if this info is needed)

SMS/MMS are included with your iPhone's backup as are email account settings, but email messages are not included with the backup. This shouldn't be a problem with an IMAP account, but can be a problem with a POP account. When a POP account is re-created with an email client, all received messages that remain at the incoming mail server will be downloaded again as new and unread messages. Since you can't store sent messages on the server with a POP account accessed with an email client, all messages sent by the account with your iPhone will be lost.
This link provides the data that is included with your iPhone's backup.

  • Bluetooth Driver Installation T440s

I notice also in the documentation that Bluetooth doesnt support the inf installation in the T440 driver pack and needs to be done sepearetly.
The downloadable standalone package suggest silent installation to be run with "autorun /qn"
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS037200
This causes issues because SCCM just happily launches off the autorun and moves on in the task sequence without waiting for a result like a setup.exe or msi would. This means the next installation fails because bluetooth is still running. Or the bluetooth gets interrupted by a reboot if that is next in the sequence
Ive tried running the msi within the package but it doesnt install the Intel Bluetooth driver, in fact device manager shows no bluetooth, eventhough programs/features shows the application install. The setup.exe included in the WIN\IntelBT\Win7\vs32 folder, doesnt work with a silent switch (-s /quiet etc)
can anyone offer advice on the approved way to deploy this ??
    win7 32bit
    thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Download the package you referenced and you can extract it with this command:
(replace %PACKAGEPATH% with the directory path you want to extract to that already exists)
    giww10ww.exe /VERYSILENT /DIR=%PACKAGEPATH% /EXTRACT="YES"
Use the files and folders you get in that path as the source for your SCCM package. Use the following command to perform a silent install:
    %PACKAGEPATH%\Win7\vs32\Setup.exe /qn

Yeah, I tried it exactly as described.
I use the Satellite U940-11X (PSU6SE) which has as network adapters the Realtek PCIe FE Family Controler and the Intel Centrino Wireless Adapter N 2230. The OS platform is Windows 8, 64bit.
I first uninstalled the existing Intel Bluetooth driver, then the Intel ProSet Wireless software.
I downloaded the newest software from Intel's website which is:
    - BT_2.6.1212_e64.exe, version 2.6.1212, 19-3-2013, for the Intel bluetooth software and
    - Wireless_15.6.1_e64.exe, version 15.6.1, 19-3-2013, for the Intel PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers
I have installed both software packages correctly and did not receive any error messages.
The installation seems to be faultless.
However, the bluetooth switch in PC settings (wireless tab) remains gray.
I cannot switch it from off to on.
In the device manager the bluetooth button is listed under hidden devices.
    Where is the mistake?
Is it possible that my notebook requires specially modified drivers from the Toshiba website and/or additional drivers like to "bluetooth filter driver package" provided by Toshiba for my notebook model?
As to the bluetooth filter driver package it reads on the website that this driver is needed to enable bluetooth on your Atheros wlan-combo-card.
I am confused now because the notebook Satellite U940 11X (PSU6SE) doesn't have the Atheros card.
    Any advice for me?
    Thanks in advance

  • No bluetooth after 8.1 upgrade and now no bluetooth driver

Hi.  I can't access my bluetooth anymore. I would reinstall the intel bluetooth driver and it still wouldn't show up in under networks in device manager or show a networks adapter. I called HP Tech Support. He remotely uninstalled the intel bluetooth and ralink bluetooth from Programs by using Revo Uninstall. Then tried to reinstall Intel bluetooth and it didn't work. He said I'd have to send it in for repair. I looked under programs and there is no indication of bluetooth driver and/or adapter whatsover. Please assist if you can. I don't want to send it in for repair when I just sent it in last month my product # E0K90UA

I understand that drivers are sometimes a problem, but still why can´t I uninstall force tor remove?
Could you help me do that?
    Thanks
    TT
Often with poorly written software drivers they dont clean up after themselves and leave bits behind that prevent re-installation.  Sometimes if a driver is uninstalled in the incorrect way it will leave entries in your registry that will also prevent
    re-installation.
You may also have a malware app blocking the installation.
I would (just to check) run a system file check to verify the OS and if errors are found that cant be fixed run DISM which is listed at the end of that wiki.
Please run a system file check (SFC)

  • Firewire drives cause kernel panic on PPC, not Intel

I'm trying to get three firewire drives to work on a PowerMac G5. Before updating to 10.4.8, they worked individually, but not chained together. Now, if you connect any one of them, the system has a kernel panic. They would cause the panic on the earlier version of 10.4 when chained together. Everything works perfectly on a MacBook and a MacBook Pro, both running 10.4.8.
Below are the notes I took on the three drives as I was troubleshooting. All three are from Maxtor.
    Drive 1:
    300GB
    EDA EB300G0160101
Has a filesystem, but Disk Utility claims there is no partition. It mounts on an Intel Mac, but causes a kernel panic on a G5.
    Filesystem is Mac OS Standard
G5 System will panic while booting if the drive is connected and turned on.
G5 panics when trying to mount drive.
    Drive 2:
    200GB
    EDA Ay200A0260101
Has a Mac OS Extended filesystem
G5 System will panic while booting if the drive is connected and turned on.
G5 Panics when trying to mount drive.
    Drive 3:
    300GB
    EDA BA300D0080101
Has a Mac OS Extended (Journaled) filesystem.
G5 System will panic while booting if the drive is connected and turned on.
G5 panics when trying to mount drive.
Because of the change when 10.4.8 was installed, I suspect this is a driver problem. It could also be a controller problem that just happened to get worse when the update was done.
I ran the Apple Service Diagnostic on this machine and was unable to find anything wrong since I replaced both CPUs.
    Any ideas?
    PowerMac G5 dual 1.8   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If the drives were formatted on the Intel Mac then they will have a GUID partition map installed on the drive. PPC Macs will not understand the GUID partition scheme which may be the root cause of your problem. If you want to use the drives on both platforms they need to be re-partitioned using the APM partition scheme.
Also, you should not use Mac OS Standard. You should use Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)

  • My wifi wasn't working for more than 10 minutes at a time after updating to IOS8 and resetting network settings. I turned off google drive, turned off Bluetooth, reset network settings and rebooted my iPad4. So far so good.

I have an ipad4.  Wifi keeps cutting out after the upgrade even after I forget the network and resign on or reset all network settings. I deleted iCloud drive from my iPad, turned off Bluetooth, reset network settings, and rebooted my iPad. Since I upgraded to IOS8 this is the longest wifi has consistently been working for me. Which is approximately an hour now. Anyone else find that this worked or have figured out if this or anything out there is a permanent fix?

I have a DELL laptop running Windows 8.1 with i7 4500U at 1.8G, 8G ram, 1TB hard disk, NVidia GT750M, iTunes is working fine at downloading or updating apps but crashes while I trying to accessing iTunes Store, no matter I choose run with intel integrated video card or Nvidia video card.
I wonder if this is happened because of Win 8.1 incompatibility or intel video driver, the driver is up to date and if I try an older driver, iTunes won't start at all.
The same thing happens with Adobe Photoshop CC 64bit, it just get freezed but get an error message said intel driver is crashed and auto recovered.
a message is shown if I run iTunes with intel video card by default when i access itunes store, but itunes quit if I try nvidia video card, without any error message.

I'd like to add some more details to my question.
I don't know if this happens at Win8 since I updated to Win 8.1 right after I purchased my laptop, all Win patches are up to date and also iTunes, I am running Win 8.1 64bit Pro version.
I tryed to reinstall iTunes, install quicktime or reinstall quicktime, also tryed to use microsoft kb 2639417, but it does not support win 8.1.

  • T410s bluetooth driver update causing BSOD

A bluetooth driver update seems to be the cause of bluescreen crashes on my T410s running windows 7 64bit.  this has happened with all bluetooth driver updates I attempted to install in the past year.  a windows optional update installed a broadcom bluetooth driver which caused crashes. I unstalled the update and the system returned to normal. two lenovo updates had the same problem specifically: thinkpad bluetooth drivers 6.5.1.4500, and 6.2.1.3100.
