Intel chip set problems.

What are the symptoms of the new problems revealed by Intel? I am using a 2007 Mac Pro. Having many problems and am unsure if it is related.

The new problems are related to the new Sandy bridge Cougar Point line released last month.
The issues that the Cougar point processors have bear no relation to any that you may have.

  • Intel-chip Compatibility Problem

    Question: I downloaded a cheap RPG that I used to play on my old mac (Realmz from Fantasoft.com), and it won't work on my new Macbook Pro. Is there any easy way, besides getting Windows XP on my Mac, to play this game? Is there any Mac software I can download that can run this program on my Intel-based Mac without switching over to Windows?
    Thanks

  • New intel chips, and Logic Pro 7

    How well does logic pro 7 run on the new intel chip sets?

    According to users on the Logic forum here, Logic Pro 7.2 and above (the Universal Binary release of Logic) works very well on Intel Mac. Anything below 7.2 is PowerPC only, and will work very poorly on an Intel Mac, if it works at all.

  • I own Logic Pro 7( I used to have a PowerPC  and need to upgrade to Logic Pro 9 (new Intel chip, system 10.8) .  Do I need to buy a whole new set or do I upgrade for less cost?

    The cost of the Full Logic Pro 9 from the App Store is less than the cost of the discontinued Boxed Upgrade set for Logic Studio (if you could find one) ... so you might as well purchase the full Logic Pro 9 from the App store and be done.

  • Chip set in A660-BT3G25x?? Is it an HM55 or HM65 Intel Express??

    I am thinking about buying a customized version of the above computer?? How about any of you that may have bought the above machine since Toshiba started putting the "Fixed" Intel HM65 Express Chip Set into their machines with the "Second Generation" Intel Procerrors? Toshiba shows, on their PDF Spec Sheet, that their customizable machines, as above(A660), have the first generation HM55 chip sets not the up-to-date "Fixed" HM65, with the second generation generation processors, in these machines. When checking with Toshiba on this, I get yes's and no's from both Toshiba direct and Toshiba Support. Seems no one knows for sure?? I hope they are not tring to unload excess stocks of their HM55 sets in the hope no one will see that they are not getting the best machine that they should!! Any comments that help to resolve this question will be appreciated as Toshiba Direct and support seem to be at odds about the situation??

       Well, despite my pontificating above, it would seem wolfkiel is has a point about the A660-BT3G25X Specifications sheet. But, notice this spec sheet shows the model number as A660-BT3G25, NOT A660-BT3G25x
    There was some concern raised here about the Sandy Bridge chipset at the end of January. All these models were mentioned for recall-refund in this Support Bulletin:
    Satellite A665-3DV10
    PSAW9U-001001
    Satellite A665-3DV11
    PSAW9U-01C002
    Satellite A665-3DV12
    PSAW9U-019002
     Satellite A665-S5183   PSAW9U-01M002
    However, in the above linked bulletin, notice that:
    "A number of Model Part Numbers, originally affected by the Intel issue, are being re-released with the new Chipset. These units will have Model Names, printed on the computer's box and serial number labels, which have been modified with a lower case x as displayed in the picture below. These units are NOT affected by the previously reported Intel issue."
    When you now check all of the above models' specification sheets with the 'x' on the end of the model name/number, they all have the HM65 chipset. While the beginning Part Number PSAW9U has remained, 2 have had the ending Part Number for these 'x' models has changed, 1 ending the same, 1 missing. Examples:
    Model Name: A665-3DV10x Part Number: PSAW9U-001001
    Model Name: A665-3DV11x - Specs sheet missing
    Model Name: A665-3DV12x Part Number: PSAW9U-01903T
    Model Name: A665-S5183x Part Number: PSAW9U-01M03T
    Given all the above, I suspect that the original spec sheet meant for the A660-BT3G25 slipped through by accident, instead of the A660-BT3G25x spec sheet.
    So, my sincere apologies to wolfkiel!

  • Re I-Movie.  "Communication Error" is what I get when I try and send a clip from my Sony camera to the IMovie program in my IMAC 2008 Intel Chips.  The IMovie program has worked well for several years - up to now.  What has gone wrong?

    Re I-MOVIE.  I am getting a "Communication Error" when I try and send a clip to the IMovie
    program in my IMAC 2008 Intel Chip computer.  This is the first time in 3 years that the
    program has not worked.  What has gone wrong?

    Hi
    Have no idea - But if it is a new problem with exactly the same kind of material that was previously used. Then my trouble shooting guide might help.
    If You
    • used a new Camera - file codec might be a sort that don't work
    • Your main hard disk might get too filled up
    Else try
    Trouble
    When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
    • iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
    • Creating a new User-Account and log into this - forces iMovie to create all pref. files new and error free
    • Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
    • a codec is used that doesn't work
    • problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
    • version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
    • preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
    • other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
    • External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video
    ( UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most other things - but not for Video )
    • USB-flash-memories do not work
    • Net-work connected hard disks - do not work
    • iPhoto Library got problems - let iPhoto select another one or repair it. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
    This You do by
    _ close iPhoto
    _ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
    _ now select all five options presented
    _ WAIT a long long time
    • free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk to low (<1Gb) - I never go under 25Gb free space for SD-Video (4-5 times more for HD)
    • external devices interferes - turn off Mac - disconnect all of them and - Start up again and re-try
    • GarageBand fix - start GB - play a few notes - Close it again and now try iMovie
    • Screen must be set to million-colors
    • Third-party plug-ins doesn't work OK
    • Run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac
    • Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
    • Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
    • In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
    (I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)
    buenrodri wrote
    I solved the problem by removing the file: 3ivxVideoCodec.component. after that, up-dated iMovie runs ok.
    Last resort: Trash all of iMovie and re-install it

  • I have an iMac G5 isight (20" screen) Leopard OS 10.5.8 I do not have an intel chip. I am unable to open movie links on facebook using Adobe flash player. I called Adobe Systems and they said Adobe no longer supported computers that did not have intel chi

    I have an iMac G5 (20 inch screen) i sight (no intel chip).Leopard OS 10.5.8. Recently I went on Facebook and tried to open a movie site someone had sent me on Facebook andwhen I tried to open the video on Facebook, I was told  I had to upgrade my Adobe Flash Player. i tried to do this, but turns out that Facebook is requiring folks to have an intel chip in order to view movies...this is outrageous!  Just think of all the folks in the world who have great running pre intel chip Apple computers. I called the Adobe Help line and was told that I really needed to buy a new computer....no thanks. How do I find a way to get a new version of Adobe for Facebook and youtube. I wish Apple could develop a way to have intel chips installed in the older computers. If you have any suggestions on this please let me know.
    Thanks, Sarah

    Either get a screen cleaning cloth, or carefully us a slightly damp lint-free cloth and dry off with a dry link-=free cloth.
    As to Flash Videos: I am in a similar same boat. I cannot watch flash videos on the BBC website or on BBC iPlayer, although all other flash videos (YouTube and FaceBook for example) are fine.
    For reasons that passeth all understanding, they work with the PPC version of Firefox, called TenFourFoxG5.app, once you have anabled plug-ins, as it does not natively support Flash.
    You can download TenFourFoxG5 from here:
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
    Now for the intersting bit: TenFourFox, like Firefox, does not support most plug-ins. Unless you are prone to headaches (in which case don't) you can read about that here:
    http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/wiki/PluginsNoLongerSupported
    But there is a workaround!
    Open TenFourFox and type in the address bar: about:config (no spaces) and click return. This gives you a warning that it might harm the application. Ignore that and click on 'I'll be careful, I promise' and you get the config file that you can edit - with great care.
    Look/search (scroll down) for: tenfourfox.plugins.enabled
    Set it to true. (Double click it to toggle it)
    Now close TenFourFox, open it again, and Flash will now work, as it now uses the plug-ins that Safari has stored.
    I am using Flash 10.1.102.64 in TenFourFox and it works just fine.

  • Is there a conflict with the Intel chip and certain web content?

    Just curious about something...
    Somewhat new to OSX...I'm noticing that certain video content,(specifically Comedy Central) won't play for me in Safari, or Firefox browsers. I have Windows Media Player 9, but the plug in or application won't launch when these clips come up. I've noticed on some Power PC machines the clips play in Safari and appear formatted for Quick Time.(Despite the site saying they're designed to play in Media Player 9) Is there some preference that I don't know about? Also how do I install and uninstall plugins for these browsers? Or is it just the Intel chip...I haven't had a problem with any other site but this one.
    Thanks.
    iMac Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1 GB Ram

    Web content not displaying will never be a hardware issue with any computer. You must install the plugins necessary to view it. All plugins are Universal now, except Windows Media, but you can get the Universal beta.
    Windows Media - either use Ho Lee's suggestion or download Flip4Mac Universal beta (look on Google).
    Real Media - get RealPlayer 10 Universal Binary.
    The Flash Player and Quicktime should already be installed. Make sure you have all Apple updates as well.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 all in one installation on dest top with AMD64 chip set and Window 7

    Can't install an HP Pro 8600 all in one with full features on a Desktop with windows 7 64 bit OS, PC has an AMD chip set, connection is wireless.
    This printer is replacing an HP Pro 8500 all in one that failed. HP's only solution was to upgrade to the 8600. All 8500 software was removed before attempting to install the 8600.
    The installation recognizes the printer & IP address. In the last step of the setup the network connection is not recognized. When I try to add a printer in Windows, the Microsoft drivers are installed and the printer works fine, but no scan or fax.
    I had success installing this wireless setup on 2 desktops (windows 7 & XP OS) and a laptop running VISTA. All of these have Intel CPU's. The installation completed fine.
    The HP Installation CD has an AMD64 folder (with "hpinkins5912"), but no instruction on setup or updating AMD drivers.

    Hey @mech3320 ,
    Thank you for taking the time out of your day to ask that question on the HP Forums today!
    I understand that you are having some trouble with the driver download on your AMD chipset but not your Intel one.
    I recommend that you try the web download of the drivers after you uninstall the ones that you tried form the CD.
    Driver Download Page
    Let me know if the web drivers work better for you or not.
    I worked for HP.

  • Installing XP via 98SE to run natively on Intel chip

    I'm inching toward getting a Power Mac Dual Core G5 where I could set up a dual-boot system with Windows with BootCamp. As far as I've been able to discern from these forums, only Windows XP can run natively on the new Intel chips. Fine, I have XP on my PC, but I don't have a full version for installing, only a version for updating earlier versions of Windows. Do you reckon it would be possible to install Windows 98SE on the G5 without trying to run it, and then to update it with my update version? Somehow it would seem a bit ironic to switch to Mac and then have to run out and buy Windows XP.

    My apologies for not being entirely clear... there is a single processor Dual Core G5. (One processor, two cores). I re-read my first post and realize I poorly worded my reply to you.
    The Core Duo is an Intel processor. Not yet availible for the PowerMac.
    The Dual Core G5 is a PowerPC processor. Again, since it's a PowerPC processor, Boot Camp & Parallels are a no-go for the PowerMac right now.
    Apple has publically indicated that all Macs will be available with Intel processors by the end of the year. The PowerMacs will have Intel processors in due time. Apple just decided to redesign the iMac first... whatever their reason might have been.

  • Solaris on an Intel chip

    Hello,
    I am considering migrating to Solaris10, but as of yet the only 64 bit versions I have seen run on AMD's and Intel Xeon's.
    I have an Intel 2.8Ghz DuoCore chip on a GigaByte MB which has an Intel 975 chip set and I have not been able to figure out if this O/S will work as a 64bit system or a 32 bit system.
    Another item, the Sun Download Manager 2.0 does not detect the JRE1.5 that is installed in my present system, I am running SuSE10.3 and I know that JRE1.5 is installed.
    Thanks in advance for any help.

So I would not expect Solaris to run in 64 bit mode on it.

  • Bad intel chip

    My laptop is only a few months old been having problems for about 5 weeks installing adobe flash player known fact that adobe is having trouble installing only on intel computers not only that my computer freezes when trying to download anything becomes unresponsive called tech support on friday 10-21-11 tech spent over 3 hours trying to install adobe flash he installed it from an unknown site with my anti virus deactivated and gave me over 10 thousand mal-ware and adware not including viruses was transferred over to case manager and he was like oh no big deal like you dont go to any unknown sites  I reply no I dont any way this laptop has been confirmed by 2 tech support people that I have the bad intel chip and it says on hp website that if you believe you have a computer with defective intel chip you could even ask for a comparable laptop or refund hp stop lying to people and stand behind what you say that you will do  that should be enough for any one not to buy an hp computer and besides that corporate case manager was very rude

    Oddly enough, the problem went away with another reboot! I thought this wasn't supposed to happen on Linux!
    Thank you all for your comments, I'll bookmark this thread for when another reboot makes it come back .

  • Firefox 4 unable to use on imac G5 ( without intel chips ), get messageYou can't open the application bcz it is not supported on this architecture.

    My iMac G5 without intel chips, Mac OS X 10.5.8.
    using Firefox 364 no problem at all.
    But unable to install Firefox 4 on it, prompt "You can't open the application because it is not supported on this architecture"

    Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac.
    There is a third-party version of Firefox 4 that works on PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox

  • Intermittent error on x86 chip set: Cannot validate provider JSDP

    <p>Hello,</p>
    <p>
    I am experiencing an intermittant issue on an X86 chip set machine running Solaris 10.
    </p>
    <p>
    I have statically registerd the JSDP provider with the jre used by WLS by adding it to the java.security file:
    security.provider.8=com.entegrity.jsdp.security.provider.JSDP
    </p>
    <p>
    I did not copy the jsdp.jar file to the jre ext folder however as this causes class loading issues.
    </p>
    <p>
    This was all that was required to allow the JSDP provider to be trusted by the jvm on sparc solaris 10 machine, however on the X86 machine we get the following error:
    </p>
    <p>

    </p>
    <p>
    I initially appced the ejb on again on the X86 machine and this seemed to resolve the issue however the next day the problem returned, apprantly no one had touched anything..
    </p>
    <p>
    I have asked the ejb vendor to dynamically register the JSDP provider which is used to establish trust of a signed jar file.
    </p>
    <p>
    Does anyone else have any ideas I can try for instance can I register the provider on using environment varibles that I can pass to the WLS managed sercer JVM, or has anyone experienced similar issues on WLS9.2, JDK1.5.11 running on Solaris 10 X86?

    Hello,
    What API guide are you looking at? It appears your version of FDM is 9.3.0 and I do not see anything like what you are mentioning in the v9.3.0 API guide.
    Keep in mind that newer API guides might not contain all the information from previous releases are are only valid for the release for which they were intended.
    On a side note a Permissions Denied - 70 error generally can be traced with ProcessMonitor / ProcessExplorer ... I would start there.
    Thank you,
