I'm gonna buy an iMac 20"...I'd just like to know how will the overall performance be using Logic studio...
Will I be able to use multiple plugins and software monitoring with low latency?

What are your plans here? Will this computer be for live recording, mixing, small combo projects, commercial work, or what? And what are your plans for the future, that is, is what you're doing today all you want your computer to be able to do later?
My first thought was the RAM, and I checked, the 2 GHz iMAc will go up to 4 GB's, which is what I have. So far so good, and I've done MIDI projects with 4 instances of IK Multimedia Philharmonik and 12 or so Logic samplers and multiple effects- in short, the "Orchestral Compose" template with the strings switched out to Philharmonik. It worked without a hitch. That's more that Pro Tools M-Powered would have been able to do, so that tells me that Logic works in a more CPU resourceful method than Pro Tools. Which is what I thought it would do.
This is not serious audio work yet, though, and is really just a first impression. But anyway, be sure to get plenty of RAM is my point. The new iMacs allow you to put it in yourself.
Do you have access to the education store? If you do, and someone you know must, you can get the 20" 2.4 GHz for about the same price as the list 2.0. Which would obviously be helpful.
And with the student discount you can also get the dual 2.0 low end Mac Pro for $2030. That's much higher than the computer you've mentioned, but it will hang in there with you for a long time. And it will expand to 16 GB's of RAM, and four internal hard drives, that sort of thing. The point is, this will keep you working with Logic as your needs expand.
If they expand. If audio is not going to be a serious issue, don't worry about it. I'd offhand just prefer a machine that could more easily grow with me than the iMac.

If you want to sync it to the iPad from that Mac, you need to upgrade it to at least 10.5.8.
If you want to copy the music to another Mac, you don't. Move the iTunes folder of the item in the Finder's sidebar over as you would any other folder. If you put it somewhere other than the Music folder, launch iTunes with the Option key held down and point it to that location.

Rebuilding aMacBook 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo, hard drive failure so rebuilding system. Aircard will not stop self-assigning IP address. Any ideas how to resolve successfully?

Had hard drive failure on MacBook 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo, so had to rebuild the OS on new drive. Was on Lion 10.7.5 prior to failure, but had to reinstall Snow Leopard 10.6.3 since that was most recent OS on media I had. After finally getting ethernet connection to router working, was able to get to internet and download / upgrade to 10.6.8. I assume I can probably buy the upgrade to Mountain Lion 10.8 from there.
Problem is this, Airport will not stop self-assigning IP address for my wireless connection, and unless I can get wireless back on this laptop, doesn't make a lot of sense to continue the rebuild and reinstall of all the software that was on it prior to HD failure. Only way to my home network and router is ethernet now. Everything else on my network (Apple MacBook Pro laptops, iPhones, desktops, and non-Apple printers and laptops) is hooking up to router wirelessly fine.
Any ideas how to resolve successfully so that the airport will stop self-assigning and allow the router to assign the IP address?

Hi. Your computer can be upgraded to either Leopard 10.5 or Snow Leopard 10.6. 10.6 will be much easier to find and will be less expensive. Leopard is not required prior to upgrading to Snow Leopard.

Using new battery on old 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo

I am in a remote location, under a deadling. My 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo MacBook Pro battery cable finally went south. I'm in a studio with half a dozen brand new battery units ... for 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 MacBook Pro's.
Can I use the battery from a 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7 MacBook Pro on my older 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo???

As I wrote above, there is no possibility of using one of the new batteries in your old machine: it absolutely won't fit. Furthermore, removing the battery from one of the new machines will void the warranty on that machine, so even if you could contrive a wiring harness to connect one of the new batteries externally to your MBP, there would be good reason not to do it.
And if you did, there is no way to predict how the charging system in your machine would respond to the incorrect battery. Would it be charged at all? Would it be charged only to the capacity of the battery specified for use in your computer, which is far lower than the capacity of the new battery? Would the SMC in your machine recognize the battery and distribute the power from it correctly? The answers to these and many other related questions are anybody's guess.
So the solution to your immediate problem will be to move your work onto one of the newer computers, finish it up by the deadline, and order a new battery for your own computer.

Apple keep telling me I need to update to icloud but I'm not sure if Lion will work on my Mac. I've upgraded to snow leopard which seems to have knackered my .me or .mac account (whatever it's called now), so I don't seem to have any option but to upgrade to Lion if I every want to see my emails again.
Apple say I must have a Intel Core 2 processor for Lion to work...... at least I think that's what they say.

I have an old macbook pro3,1 (2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo, I think 2007), builtin camera not working and I think it is related to mavericks update.
Anyone had the same problem, and if yes what is the solusion?

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
    b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
     Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
     COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
     computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
     screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
     Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).

When we tried to put a 2gig stick into a regular Duo unit the Pro would not even work. Nothing wrong with the RAM though since it ran fine in out 2Duo iMacs.

You have no reason to apologize. We all have to start from the beginning in every endeavor.
I too am very happy with my 2006 MBP however with the introduction of HDTV, the 2006 MBP was not up to the task. That resulted in the purchase of the 2010 17" MBP because I needed that capability. Technological change does often require newer and better equipment. As I have alluded to, I still use the 2006 with great pleasure.
I have also purchased a late 2011 17" MBP which I feel is a slightly better machine than the 2010. The 2011 has SATA3 internal interface whereas the 2010 has SATA2. What this means is that the 2011 MBP can utilize the full potential of current SSDs whereas the 2010 cannot. Do not misunderstand, an SSD in a 2010 will still be a significant performance enhancement. Also a 2011 MBP will accept up to 16GB RAM (also at 1600 MHz) whereas the 2010 can only utilize 8GB RAM (the 2010 13' model being an exception). The 2011 MBPs also have slightly better GPUs than the 2010.
On the plus side for the 2010 MBP, it is more energy efficient than the 2011. In other words, longer battery run time.
The 2011 MBP has a quadcore CPU which is not the great advance that some may lead you to believe. It shines only when a given application can utilize the parallel processing that it affords. Though not as critical, do opt for the fastest CPU available if there is a choice.
I like the 17" displays in the newer MBPs (late 2008 and newer) due to the 1980 x 1200 resolution. That is compatible with HDTV. The retina display are nice, but not nice enough to warrant my purchase of a 15" model.
Both my 2010 and late 2011 MBPs will run any applications that a newer MBP will, but perhaps not quite as fast. Neither is obsolete, yet.
