Intel Core Duo, very slow start up and doesnt recognize airport

Hi,
I just got upgraded to a 2GHz Intel Core Duo (10.4.7) by Apple, after they couldn't fix my iMac G5 iSight. But ever since I got it, on the initial start up every morning, it doesn't start up right away. When I press the power button, the sleep light dims on a little, stays on for about 30 seconds (with a blank screen) then the computer will eventually start up (Much much slower than normal)
Once it finished starting up, and gets to my desktop, my airport icon doesn't show up, and when I look for it, the computer tells me that there isn't one installed (There is).
I tried just restarting it, still doesn't show up. So I shut down, and power-up again. It starts up fast and normal, and then my airport card shows up.
Any idea what is causing this?
Thanks in advance!
Mike

parks2,
Have you reinstalled your RAM?
Have you run the Apple Hardware Test? Check System Profiler under Diagnostics after each startup, as well.

  • Very slow start up and very slow response

    Hi guys,
    SOS
My iMac is so slow to boot or start up. It takes about an 1-2 hours. It has very slow and very delayed response when doing tasks. I'm not sure what happened.
I have tried safe mode but it has not worked. I tried the disk utility but it was saying that my DVD (possibly because it is for snow leopard)  is outdated. I think I updated to Lion.
Do you have any suggestions? I will try any other tricks. Do you recommend to back up before doing repair etc.?
    thanks in advance!!

Tried to reset the RAM but did not get through. It went to disk utility again. Tried repair but it still saying to back up and restore files. Maybe the HD has been toasted. =(...
It says: Invalid key lenght. Volume Mac HD could not be verifried completely.. then it says Error: disk utilityu can't repair close back disk out, restoere etc..
In disk utillity as well, Mac OS X base system appeared- I dont know the purpose of this. It has some files on it. Dont know whether to restore it or what?..Mac HD seems like the it's empty..
Thanks again guys...It feels like I'm in a maze..

  • Very slow start up and rainbow wheel

Yesterday my laptop froze while I was watching Netflix. No rainbow wheel was shown, it was just completely frozen. So I pressed the power button to shut it down and start it up again. After the start up Sound, the Apple icon was present and the loading wheel just kept spinning for 2-3 minutes and then disappeared. Then the icon dissapeared and it was just frozen at the Gray screen. I held the power button down once again and it happened yet again; frozen at the gray screen. I finally restarted it and finally logged in through SAFE MODE. After safe mode, I restarted the system to let it load normally. Once I was able to sign on,everything loaded normally. Then i moved the cursor around the icons and the tool bar and nothing was working. I clicked on the Apple icon on the toolbar and I tried to click on the icons on the dock and I got nothing but the RAINBOW WHEEL. So it looks like I am running into multiple issues. One issue being frozen at the Gray screen.  And second, IF BY SOME MIRACLE I get through and log in, everything freezes and I get the rainbow wheel. I ran my laptop through Safe Mode already and I zapped it (Command+option+p+r).
As I began this messag, i turned on my laptop and throughout the duration of this message my laptop has been stuck on the Gray screen with the Apple icon and loading wheel. It has been spinning for about 5 mins so i'm guessing its stuck again. HELP ME PLS!
    i have a Mac os x 10.7.5 (13inch early 2011)
    2.7 ghz intel corei7
    4 gb 1333 mhz ddr3
I have lots of space left and I haven't installed anything new that would cause my laptop to crash like this. pls help!

Now I cannot even Log in. I reach the login screen with my user name and icon, type my password and it loads like normal. Then 15-20 seconds it returns me back to the login window. Something is wrong with my Login items. I went in safe mode to try and get in but it still brings me to the login window everytime. It keeps looping me back to the login and i'm stuck!

  • Satellite L300 - Very slow start up and freezes

    Hi all,
I have a Satellite L300 which has treated me well - however over the past 2 months it has got really slow and freezes quite often. I have run through anti virus, spybot etc and come up with nothing.
Last night I tried to reformat the system by pressing and holding 0 which did not work then tried with F8 which let me do a further scan but no reformat. I am now quite pleased that I failed to do the reformat as I purchased windows 7 after the original purchase of the laptop.
Any ideas anyone - or anyone with the same/simular problems?

    Hey,
That means you have Windows 7 installed at the moment and not preinstalled Windows version?!
Well, in this case the HDD recovery option is not available anymore. You can do this on preinstalled Windows only.
To format your notebook you need Toshiba recovery disk.
    Did you create it?

  • Mac mini Intel Core Duo fan very loud and runs at high speed all the time.

I purchased an "Open box" Mac mini Intel Core Duo, 1.66Ghz, 2G ram, 80G HD and SD a few days ago from Fry's.
It runs beautifully except the fan is very loud compared to any Mac my family has ever had. It is so loud that we were thinking of putting it under the desk.
The fan runs constantly, and I mean all the time, at a high speed. You can really feel the air coming out the exhaust vents. The case is always cool to the touch as is the exhaust air.
My aunt bought a similar Mac mini (But only 512Mb ram) the same day. Her's is very quiet. The case feels just slightly warm, not unlike other Mac mini's I've seen.
Should my Mac mini's fan be running this way?
    Thanks,
    llulua
BTW: The "open box" was sealed with a Fry's label and it said that this had a new warranty. Yet, checking the serial number, it said that it had about 260 days left. I guess Fry's is backing it?
Also, someone told me that perhaps the main wire from the fan to the logic board is disconnected.

Since you have 2 gigs of memory, my thoughts are that when the party (Fry's or the origianl purchaser) upgraded the memory, they neglected to reattach the wire at the front of the Mini under the IR receptor at the right front corner that regulates the fan speed. This wire must be unattached in order to upgrade the memory, and is probably why the original person brought it back, because of the fan noise resulting from failing to reattach the wire. If that wire is left unattached, the fan runs continually at high speed to protect the CPU and system in general. If you do not want to use a putty knife to open the Mini, take it back to Fry's and ask someone who is Mac savvy to open it and reattach the small plastic receptacle at the end of the wire into its socket at the right front of the machine. When I go to Fry's, I am always concerned because the employees allow people to pry keys off of the Apple notebooks, so don't expect that their employees to know or care about anything Mac.

  • Mac Book Pro Intel Core Duo 2 overheating and turning off

I've been having this nasty problem with my Mac Book Pro Intel Core Duo 2 (2.8 Ghz, 4 MB 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM, bought in August 2009) for quite a while, but recently it's intensifying.
It starts to overheat badly, and then randomly turns itself off if not connected to the power.
When restarted, the clock is set to January 1st, 2001.
Needless to say, the overheating impacts on my capacity to use the computer the way I want, destroying my fps in games and slowing the processor while I use Ableton Live to produce music.
I tried to look around, but I cannot figure out if this is a known issue of some sorts, or a problem related to this very computer: I did read on the forums a suggestion to run the Hardware Tests from the Snow Leopard DVD by booting the system with the DVD in while holding d, but nothing happens if I do so.
    Thank you all in advance!

  • IMac Intel Core Duo - what software works and what doesn't???

So I decided to start this post/topic to get feedback from everyone who uses their Intel based iMac for all different reasons and all the various sortware that people use. This includes software, games, freeware and such.
    Here's my 2 cents:
Adobe CS2 software works fine except for Adobe Version Cue2. In other words, thus far InDesign CS2, Illustrator CS2, Photoshop CS2 and ImageReady CS2 seem to work fine. Probably a bit slower than on the G5's but not noticeably different.
Anyone else have feedback on their software that you use daily???

Toast 7 works brilliant on my iMac Core Duo. A lot
    better than my Powerbook G4.
EyeTV 2 is working fine on my Intel Core Duo as well.
I'm new to Mac, and bought an eyetv (PX-TV402U for Mac) with my iMac core duo. However, it doesn't run worth a hoot, can get some channels but lots of snow in picture. I'm sure I read somewhere on Plextor's site about a software issue with new core duo, but can't find it now and can't get a responce from Plextor. You say yours is working fine, is that because you have Toast 7? I'm stumped at the moment. Got any suggestions?

  • What is the most effective way to get my imac 2 ghz intel core duo 2 10.4.11 to be able to run 10.5 and sync with my iphone 4s?

What is the most effective way to get my imac 2 ghz intel core duo 2 10.4.11 to be able to run 10.5 and sync with my iphone 4s?

As your Mac should run Snow Leopard provided it has at least 1GB memory, that would be a good deal easier and very much cheaper than trying to find a 10.5 install disc.
Snow Leopard costs $30 approx from the online Apple store (£26 if you're in UK)
You'll need to update Tiger to 10.4.11 with the combo installer first (unless you're just erasing the disc and starting fresh) You can then update SL from 10.6.3 to 10.6.8 with its combo installer.
For comparison, 10.5 Leopard is currently running about $130 from Apple (if still available) and more on Amazon etc.
    This info for Leopard courtesy of TexasMacMan;
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard installation system requirements

Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753).
If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:
    MB427Z/A  Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD
    MB576Z/A  Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD
MB021Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)

Try calling 1-800-676-2775.  Give the serial number and thy *may* still burn you new install disks designed just for the hrdware in your system (for a fee, something like $160 per disk).  *May* is only because they may not burn disks for Leopard anymore.
If they do not burn them for you, you can buy Leopard disks off Amazon or eBay for about $200.
Have you considered Snow Leopard?.  Those disks only cost $19 (single user) or $29 (5-user license) through Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE.

  • I have a MacBook Pro with Intel Core Duo and Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Want to upgrade to Lion to take advantage of icloud. Is there anything I can do without getting a new MacPro?

I have a MacBook Pro with Intel Core Duo and Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Would like to upgrade to Lion but it requires a minimum of Intel Core 2 Duo. Can I get what I need or do I have to buy new MacBok Pro?

I also have a core duo MBP with Snow Leopard and it runs perfectly.  There are very few things it cannot do as compared to the faster, newer MBPs, but that is attributable to the CPU, not the OS.  There are some who view Lion as downgrade rather than as an improvement.  If there are important applications that reqire a fast CPU or Lion features that you find essential, by all means get a new MBP.
I have an aphorism:  Obsolescence is more often a perception rather than a reality.  Besides the silver keys look much classier than the black ones.
    Ciao.

  • External Drive Recommendations for iMovie '09 and iMac Intel Core Duo

I just got a new iMac Intel Core Duo, and loading up on 4 gig of Ram. Going to get an external drive to house video footage, and wondering if this model might be ok. I understand firewire is usually better than usb drives, but am looking at one that is USB 2.0 with of speeds up to 480 Mbps and transfer rates up to 1.5 Gbps. Claims it's almost twice as fast as FireWire 800.
Would this work well for iMovie, editing HD footage?
