Intel Core i5-750 cpu and/or Intel DP55WB motherboard

I know the products are fairly new, but I wondered if anyone has tried Solaris 10 against the Core i5-750 and/or the DP55WB (or SB) motherboard yet?
Web search is not turning up anything relevant.
Ron

i would buy the DP55WB mobo but without compatibility test i ll have to wait. Can someone pls post information on the topic?

  • Enabling cores in my CPU.

Hello. I have a quad core processor in my HP a6752f. Lately I have been experiencing snapping sounds in my speakers and white noise whenever I am switching from one program to another. I am also getting dropouts in my programs when I am working the CPU. I ran a harware diagnostic test and I received a warning saying "There are 4 cores in the CPU and only 2 cores are enabled". I suspect this is creating my problem. Does anyone know how to enable my disabled cores? Thank you very much.

    Hello Swordhandler
I responded to your other post at the following link: White Noise problem.

  • Error Messages CPU and heatsink

    Hi,
my MacPro 3,1 (Early 2008) started to freeze from time to time. I decided to test it with ASD. Here are the error messages:
    Error 1)
Current (ICBC) - CPU-B core current (test #1) - Sensor Reads Within Operating Range
    - Check to ensure that sensor reads within operating range.
ERROR -- 3 [Sensor reading below low point] -- (1.61) TEST FAILED
    Error 2)
    Thermal Interface  - Processor:ProcessorB (test #4) - TIM Test 75 percent Gardband
    - Check that CPU heatsink is properly attached, using product spec theta dh + 75 percent guardband.
ERROR - -47006 [Processor power error] -- TEST FAILED
To exclude the cpu as the culprit I changed their positions, but the test result remained the same (same error for CPU-B).
I decided to exchange the positions of the two heatsinks to see if there is a change in the error message coming from ASD.
A new test with ASD gave me exact the same result, it's still remaining on CPU-B current/sensor.
Does that mean the logic board is broken? Or is another solution still possible?

    Fixing a Mavericks Installation Problem
How to manage a failed OS X Mavericks installation | MacFixIt - CNET Reviews.
    Try these in order:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

    Hi:
I am looking at the BIOS setup guide for your PC series and it shows there is a VT setting under the device configuration menu for "select models." See Chapter 3 page 6.
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01662442.pdf
Here are the specs on the T6500 processor. It does not support VT, which is why the VT setting cannot be enabled.

    Hello,
does somebody have an idea if it is possible to upgrade a K320 ATI HD5570 1GB 57123813 Intel Core i5 750 6GB DDR3 with an USB 3.0 PCIe card? Lenovo support says no way, no Firewire, nothing but why it shouldn't work??

Mixed Micron/Kingston memory with different timing specs,
Try with only kit of 1 brand installed. You should not mix memory like that as problems can and most times will occur.

  • I have a new 2.0GHz Intel Core i7 macbook pro and my external firewire drive is causing the laptop to lock up

I have a new 2.0GHz Intel Core i7 macbook pro and my external firewire drive is causing the computer to lock up. The drive seems to sleep and then never wakes and the laptop locks up. I've had this drive connected to an older 2.0 core duo macbook pro and a 3.0GHz quad core macpro with no issues. It's a ministack v3 drive, 2GBs, fw400+800, sata and usb. Any ideas? And can I stop the drive from going to sleep?
    Thanks.

Check with the drive's manufacturer to see if they might have a firmware update for the enclosure; it sounds like the enclosure's firmware isn't properly detecting the FireWire wakeup sequence.
Obviously this could also be a bug with the new MBP's firmware, so it wouldn't hurt to ask the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store; in particular, ask them to show you that the sleep/wakeup sequence on your MBP works with some other FireWire drive.

  • A simple question... re. Intel CPU and Heasink

this is probably really simple, but i need to be sure so i'll ask anyway
    My question is:
Do you remove the thin black sheet of what i pressume is aluminium on the heatsink before installing it onto the CPU?
I applied some Artic Silver on the CPU and left the black aluminium sheet on when installing my Intel Heatsink and CPU.... is this the correct way?
    Cheers

Stock heatsink and fan dont remove, dont use thermal paste
After marketheatsink and fan, apply thermal paste
If you must apply thermal paste remove black strip as best u can and then apply rubbing alcohol to remove last traces then apply thermal paste.
If you ever remove heatsink you will probably need to remove black strip and reapply thermal paste

  • Overclocking Core i5 750 on MSI GD80 Question about BCLK, RAM, and QPI

    Hi,
I am trying to overclock my core i5 750 processor to 3.6 Ghz (default is 2.66 Ghz) and I have an important question about the BCLK I should be setting so that my RAM would run at its default speed of 1600 (G. Skill Ripjaws 4 GB).
Basically, the only speeds I can set the BCLK at, to run the RAM at 1600, are 160 and 200 Mhz.  Right now, I have it set at 200 Mhz (160 is not enough to push the i5 to 3.6 Ghz sadly) and with a 20 multiplier, I got 3.6 Ghz on the i5.  But here are the questions:
    1.  My QPI speed is now at 6400 Mhz (far from the default 4800) - is that actually safe?
    2.  Is 200 BCLK way too high?  I haven't seen too many people overclocking using my settings...
    Thanks

    2.  Is 200 BCLK way too high?  I haven't seen too many people overclocking using my settings...
"Too high" or not too high is a somewhat pointless question when it comes to overclocking.  From a specfication perspective, everything above default clock speeds is too high and so is a memory clock speed of DDR3-1600 (as Intel's specifications define DDR3-1333 as the maximum supported memory speed).

Your RAM will not mind if it is not exactly running @DDR3-1600. There is no necessity to aim for an exact BLCK/RAM Frequency match.  Let's say you find a stable spot that will result in a DRAM Speed of DDR3-1578.  So what? 11 MHz less will not have any significant impact on the system performance.
