Intel HD graphics not working?

Hi, I have a really strange error that developed yesterday, in September I purchased a 15" core i7 macbook pro high res glossy and its well.. being very strange.
I havent had any problems up to now but for some reason I now get no grey screen when I turn on the machine but I do get a chime and just a black screen until it boots up osx. When I go to shut down the computer the screen goes black for a second and there is a small white box in the top left corner then it goes totally black and shuts down. At the same time as that error happening I have been having issues in safari, if I try to run anything full screen it crashes and goes unresponsive, I installed the graphics card switching app to see if there might a been a problem there and for some reason it will only use the discreet 330m and wont switch at all.
I have tried 2 different hard drives just to make sure that it wasnt a bad installation but the same problem exits regardless, I am quite new to macs and this is really confusing me, I have reset the PRAM and the SMC but still nothing, I pressed D after the chime when the screen is black but I am unable to enter the hardware test but it may be running and I wouldnt be able to see.
Does this mean that the HD graphics provided by intel have been damaged or disabled??
Does anyone know what the problem might be ??
Really confused
Thanks in advance

I have the exact same problem. Just got my MacBook Pro 15" with i7 2.8Ghz and the high resolution display.
I was able to notice that this is due Intel HD failing. If I check with gfxCardStatus v1.8.1 NVidia card is always selected and whenever I try to force Intel I get the following messages in system log:
*gfxCardStatus[122] Setting Intel only...*
*gfxCardStatus[122] setMuxState was successful.*
*gfxCardStatus[122] setMuxState returned 0xe00002bc.*

*gfxCardStatus[122] Updating process list...*
*gfxCardStatus[122] We're using the NVIDIA® card, but no process requires it. An external monitor may be connected, or we may be in NVIDIA® Only mode.*
It is clear that it is failing due +Inconsistent menu state and active card+ I could not have it to work by reseting SMC or PRAM. Clues?

    Hi  sparhk, and welcome.
One of the Lenovo staff who frequents the forum put out a call to help you in a private forum.  I do a little Linux, so I poked into it.  To my amazement my first Google hit was your thread where you indicate you have solved the problem.  (At least, it _looks_ like you...)
May I respectfully suggest that a post back here indicating success would be a nice touch?  That way anyone who passes by looking for help with this issue will have a better chance of finding it.  For posterity, here it is (see post number 25):

  • After BIOS update Intel Speed Step not working on Satellite A500

I upgraded my Satellite A500 PSAM3E model to the newest BIOS 1.50, now the Intel speed step not working!
My CPU is always 2GHz+, I chagned Power Plan to balanced, but no change... with previous the CPU was around 800 MHz.
When I try to change Windows 7 power management and set maximum CPU performance to 50 or 80% the system freezes.

    Hey Szaby59,
Which older BIOS version did you use before update to 1.50?
I also use the maximum CPU performance option for Eco mode (50%) but this does work properly.
Furthermore it would be interesting to know if you use factory settings or your own Windows installation. Normally after using Toshiba recovery disk you dont have to install any Toshiba tools anymore. Everything is preinstalled on your notebook.

  • Mac Mini Graphics Not Working Properly

I have two Mac Minis (a July 2009 model and a June 2010 model) that have recently began having video problems.
The problem started on my newer machine which has two Samsung monitors attached, sometime after the last Snow Leopard update.
Last week, the second, older machine which is connected to only a Panasonic LCD HDTV, began having the same issue.
The problem is that the actual screen resolution being run does not match the settings in the System Preferences.   It looks like the graphics controller is actually running at 640x480 or 800x600 or something where everything is big but the OS (Snow Leopard or Lion) still thinks it is running at 720p or some other high resolution.  So the OS reports that everything is fine even though it is very obvious, things are not OK.
When I move the mouse to the side the desktop scrolls around on the screen.  it is like having a window into my desktop.
Changing the screen resolution in Hardware-Displays does not work nor does the detect display button.  On the TV for instance, the Displays panel reports 720p even though it is clear that what is on the screen is nowhere near 720p.  It makes videos on the TV look really bad and it makes it hard to navigate around the desktop.  I can't even fit the entire browser into the sceen.
I had hoped that upgrading to Lion on the machine hooked to the TV would fix the problem, but It did not.  Lion displays the same problem.  I have not tried putting Lion on the newer Mac Mini yet.
I did find a workaround for the newer one with the Samsung displays – by using fast user switching, sometimes the proper graphics resolution will come up right on the second or third try/user.  And if I do get it working properly and the monitor goes to sleep, it will screw the resolution up again when it wakes up, even if it was working properly before.  I have temporarily turned off sleep but this is not a good option for me.
Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong or how I could fix it?
    Thanks!
    Patrick T.

Fixed by using the alternative i810 driver within the xf86-video-intel package.

  • Intel 7260 does not work on open networks/filtered ports

Hi Everyone! I made sure to check if this was posted before and tried to fix everything I could before asking you guys. For the past few days, I have been using Android wifi tethering as I was unable to get the speed up above 1000 B/s at my school. This means that the pings work, but I am unable to do anything else.
I have the latest kernel and the latest firmware (downloaded from the iwlwifi kernel.org section) and am currently using NetworkManager. My wifi works on my WPA network at home, but nowhere else. This is a fresh install of Arch running Gnome.
    Laptop model: ASUS Q302LA
    Outputs of my stuff:
    lspci gives me:
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT DRAM Controller (rev 0b)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0b)
00:03.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT HD Audio Controller (rev 0b)

00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 8 Series SMBus Controller (rev 04)
02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless 7260 (rev cb)
    uname -r is:
    3.18.6-1-ARCH
Config on the settings is all the automatic ones. I get the signal strength and the speed but data transfers at a ridiculously slow rate. When I had Windows, it was 50 Mb/S.
If you need anything else, I can give you all you need.
    All ports are filtered.
Thank you for helping. If this is in the wrong section, feel free to move it.

For people that end up stumbling upon this thread: I talked to the IT director at my school and he said that it's normal for Linux (using open source drivers) users to find problems with connection. (Also, the USB wifi card I tried did not work.) As of now, it's a problem on the provider's end. If you can, ask them to update their "wifi stuff" and if that doesn't work, see if you can get them to secure the network with WPA2/PSK. (Probably won't happen) I was fortunate that I contacted him during the planning phase for securing the wifi and only had to wait a few days.

  • AMD CCC / switchable graphics not working properly

    Hi all,
ok first of all i read bunch of posts on this forums, and on most of them i saw only responds with links and to download and update drivers - and those things seems not to work for most of people. So i decided to write here a post where someone will actually fix this problem because it is common on most of HP laptops.
First of all, i bought my laptop in Qatar while i was on bussiness there.
    Model: Pavilion dv6-6b20se
    Product Number: A6N20EA#ABV
Graphics: Intel HD 3000 and AMD HD 6490
I bought this computer because im working as an architect and designer and sometimes i need it for rendering, and yea i would like to mention that part time i love to play games. So at that time (2 years ago) and for that money it was pretty decent laptop.
So i've never touched anything myself on laptop, i always let my HP Support Assisstant do the work it is on computer. To be honest i didnt even know that this option of Switchable graphics exist. Until yesterday when i put game to play and i got problem wherever i press ESC it closes came and it crashes.
I googled around and I saw that the problem apears when your graphic card is low.
    Requirements for the game:
    Minimum System Requirements
    MinimumOS: Windows XP SP3 / Windows Vista SP1 / Windows 7
Processor: 1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent AMD CPU
Memory: 1 GB RAM for Windows XP / 2 GB RAM for Windows Vista and Windows 7
Graphics: 256 MB (With Pixel Shader 3.0 support)
    DirectX: DirectX 9.0 c compatible
    Hard Drive: 15 GB
    Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible
Supported Chipsets: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or greater, ATI Radeon X1600 Pro or greater.
Please note that NVIDIA GeForce 7300, 8100, 8200, 8300, 8400, and 9300; ATI Radeon HD3200 and HD 4350 are below minimum system requirements. Updates to the video and sound card drivers may also be required.
    Recommended System Requirements
    OS: Windows XP SP3 / Windows Vista SP1 / Windows 7
Processor: 2.6+ GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent AMD CPU
    Memory: 2 GB RAM
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT, or better
DirectX: DirectX 9.0c August 2008 (included)
    Hard Drive: 15 GB
    Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible
So by looks of specs here and specs of my computer and the game is like 4 years old, it should fly on my computer.
I googled a bit more and i saw that every program reads only Intel HD graphic card and not AMD. Ok so i went and checked tutorilas on youtube how to switch it and there is where my suprise was. When i open CCC as per everyone on internet i dont have Switchable Graphic option - only Power Play. So i read on your website that some computers need to be set in BIOS from Dynamic which was my original setting to FIXED. I did that to but my option when i right click on desktop for switchable graphics disaper and my CCC is not working.
Ok so i went to your website again, was looking for original drivers for my computer. And there are 3 drivers.
    1.AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver
2.AMD/Intel Switchable High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver
    3.Intel High-Definition (HD) Graphics Driver
Ok so when i download them, i can install only No.1, other two i get message that i dont have minimum requirements.
so i checked those to, and it says that  you need to have windows 7 which i have since i got this laptop with original licensed product.
The thing is when i install new version of AMD driver and CCC i get switchable graphics option when i right-click on desktop, but when i get in in CCC i get defoult page and there is no option to switch. When i update intel graphics i loose switching. Either way, it wont work, and im stuck with crappy card that i cant use on bunch of programs and games that i need it for.
So please for once give us a bit detailed answer on how we can fix this. Because it is not only me that have this problem, alot of people are having them and they still cant fix this.
Sorry for my lenghty post, but i thought i needed to explain in more debth.
Thanks in front for reading and takning time to answer.

And yea i forgot one thing. When ever i instal newer version of AMD driver in Device manager it changes from AMD HD 6490M to AMD HD 7400M Series. Dont know why it constatnly does that.

  • Intel HD display not working

I have a Satellite A665-S6054 and after the last windows update the intel hd display graphics no longer works. I have tried uninstalling the update, reinstalling the drivers for the intel graphics, but nothing has worked.

My Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD is not working.  The aspect ration is off and the computer no longer has the option to sleep or hibernate.  The specific message I get is "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)".

  • Windows 7 RTM x64 Power Manager and switchable graphics not working

Installed Windows 7 RTM x64 on my T400. After windows update and installing Lenovo's drivers, everything is accounted for. ATI graphics works fine, and I can see the Intel graphics on the shortcut menu. I just cannot manually switch to the built-in graphics, nor did I see the Power Manager. What do I need to do? I have installed the drivers for the power management, even though on the list of driver on lenovo's webpage it says it's only for SL models.
    Help would be appreciated.
    Specs:
    T400
    LED
    ATI/Intel switchable graphics
    4Gb

Have you installed the Power manager http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/WIN7-BETA.html#powm ?
And after that, make sure you have installed the right driver (the one for switchable graphics): http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/WIN7-BETA.html#m8xswitch
    Hope that helps.
I also have Windows 7 Professional x64 on my T400 and everything works fine (i only uses programs and driver from here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/WIN7-BETA.html

  • Emagic mt4 and intel iMac does not work with 10.4.5

    Hi there,
after updating my iMac on 10.4.5 my MT4 does not work any longer. It is still shown in the system profiler! But that`s it! After I`ve installed the latest driver (emagic v1.7), it was not shown in the audio/midi preferences. On my G4 with 10.3.9 it is still working properly. I have tried to use it with Garage Band 3, while I am waiting for Logic Pro 7.2 . It worked in the begining, but now the USB connection on the MT4 does not light up, but the midi devices. My question is: Do I need a driver using Logic Pro 7.2 with an Intel iMac? Includes the update the driver for Emagic MT4?
thanks a lot for any reply, experiences and clues

iMac Intel core 20''   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Hi Glyn,
I will try to get some driver information of apple. Emagic is apple now, so who else could that know?! I use an m-audio fw audio-interface. For that m-audio got a driver and it works by now. Fortunately! I will tell you if apple got a clue.
Thanks for reply ( So I am not the only one in universe with that problem!)
