Intel ICH5Raid & radeon 9700pro incompatable

I have recently switched from promise to intel sata raid.
My system performance in 3dmark/games dropped a great deal.
After hours of trial & error I have discovered its the graphics card (radeon 9700pro) for some reason it is running with no agp memory which severly affects performance. I can be 100% sure of this as I have exchanged it with a nvidia card which runs okay. The funny thing is that before the raid switch I could not use any setting greater than slow in the bios performance but know can use any setting however that does not make up for the performance lost with no agp memory. The radeon card works okay in another machine. I am using latest drivers for everything.              CARL.
875p (1.6)
3.0ghz 800mhz (zalman quiet fan)
corsair 3200xms twin 512mb
radeon 9700pro (3.5)
maxtor sata 120gb 8m cach x2
xp pro sp1
q-tec 550 watt (do'nt laugh)

What do you mean it is running with no AGP memory, and what makes you think that.
You can set the agp apature in the BIOS, but that should make a huge difference. What games are you using and just how poor is their performance?
I have a 9700 Pro and it works flawlessly with this board.
I found using the omega drivers worked amazing with my card so I am using them. You would probably have better luck in the forums at http://www.rage3d.com or at http://www.driverheaven.net. Both sites have a really solid ATI user base for support, and you can find tons of help at both sites, and the omega drivers at driverheaven.

  • ATI Fire GL X1-128 vs Radeon 9700pro?

What is the main difference in these cards? I think I might have the FireGL instead of the Radeon 9700pro. I was given a bunch of parts when my friend upgraded and he did not tell me what all of it was at the time. This explains the memory problems I had earlier. Also can I continue to use the Omega Radeon drivers on this card if it is the FireGL?

The main difference between the 2 is the Cost!!.As a ATI Fire GL 128 Cost about $700-1,100 US......As you know this is a lot more then A 9700-Pro!!...The Fire GL Line of Cards from ATI is comparable to the "Quadro"Line of cars fro NVIDIA, only the Quadro cards are closer to 5 X the amount of a regular FX series Card...A Quadro FX 2000 256  Cost about $1,800-2,000 US!! ...These specialty Fire GL and Quadro FX Vidio Cards Look basicly the Same on the Outside as their Gaming Card Brothers, But the Main defference is they have special electronics on them which in turn allows them to access certain features in a driver which makes them that much more programable....The People that use these Vidio Cards are Mainly Game Programers, and People that do a lot of CAD work.....These Cards are very fast in certain CAD programs But they are capable of playing games Just not at as Fast a Framerate as a True Gaming Card.....But if you needed to run a CAD program such as "Light-Wave 6" then your Gaming card would crawl, where the Fire GL would not....So if you do indeed have one you are lucky ...As like I said Before It is worth up to 3-4 Times what a Regular ATI 9 Series card is...............Sean REILLY875

  • KT4 Ultra FISR and Radeon 9700pro

OK, I upgraded my MB from the k7t266pro to an Kt4 Ultra.  I also upgraded to an AMD xp 2500+ and new DDR 333 ram.  My video card is the ati 9700pro.  This card functioned just fine with my old board as I never crashed.
Since I have upgraded I have not been able to play any 3d games!!  all the games start and are playable for 2-5 mins then it just completely freezes my system.  i cannot even do an end task and have to hit the reset button to restart the PC.
I am running Winxp home edition and am fully patched.  I have also upgraded the bios and installed every new driver from the live update utility.  i have the latest drivers available from ATI as well.
what gives here?  I have searched Google and various other sites and i have run across many many threads with people having identical problems with this board and video card.  my thought is that it is not the video card, as it ran flawlessly on my old MSI board.  i do PC support and system admin for a living and 99% of the time I can resolve PC problems on my own, however, I am at a loss with this one.  I have been a loyal MSI customer as this is the 4th MB i have bought from you guys over the years, but i can't help feeling disappointed right now.  any ideas?  This stinks as I was so looking forward to the upgrade in performance and now i got jack.

    ATI 9700pro
    512 DDR 2700 Ram
    300w PS (AMD approved)
    Maxtor 30bg ata 133

I took the advice of some of you and got a Antec 430w TruePower PS to replace my old one.  Still no good.  I was a little skeptical about the new PS thing since I run a pretty minimal configuration.
    MSI KT4 Ultra - fisr
    AMD XP2500+
    Radeon 9700pro
    512mb 333DDR Ram
    30BG Maxtor HD 133ata
    Creative PC-DVD Drive
    1 Generic Floppy
As you can see, pretty sparse.  I soley use this box as a gaming type PC, so I try and keep the load light.  At this point I think I would like the board replaced.  Like I said, the 9700pro worked like a champ on my k7t266 pro, I doubt it is the new AMD CPU... so that leaves just the memory or the board at this point.  I mean, driver wise I am using the same drivers as those that do not have problems.  I am going to buy some high-end memory to eliminate that issue, but I highly doubt that will make the difference.  I hope I'm wrong though.
Oh, BTW the option to change the AGP slot back to 4x is locked out for some reason.  That kinda pisses me off too.  I mean, at least give me the option to bring it back down to 4x.

  • PT8-Neo LSR and Radeon 9700pro

Ok so I bought my new MSI board for my 2nd PC and happily installed the P4 2.4 cpu (northwood 533fsb non-ht, this is my 2nd box after all) and 1gb ram.
Placed in the Radeon 9700Pro (with Arctic Cooling vga silencer) and everything worked great.. in fact I was very impressed with the performance.
Then this morning, I succumbed to the bright idea of .. hey I wonder if there are any updates for the bios or drivers? (   ) So installed Liveupdate 3 that came with the board, and after it had run and repatched itself twice it told me, your bios is out of date.. here's ver 2.00..
So I downloaded it, made the dos floppy, and flashed the bios (a procedure I've done many times over the years) and set the new bios up.. win2k booted fine, and everything was great until... I opened internet explorer, and the radeon promptly crashed, the ATI software recovered it, but everytime I tried anything remotely concerning graphics, the Radeon crashed. This espicially happened with anything 3D of course, but also would happen frequently with 2D gfx also.
To cut a long story short, after experimenting (like all damn day  ) with every bios for the PT8 Neo-LSR available, it seems that version 1.1 is the ONLY bios for the board which supports the Radeon 9700pro card under win2k at least. Or rather the only version that works for me and allows me to run games and stuff without Radeon stopping responding.
System isn't overclocked, and neither is the Radeon btw.. so I think I have the system working again now with v1.1 of the bios, but I haven't tested it a lot yet.. but at least it loads the radeon screen savers without crashing so far.

    Yeah..
    system is as follows..
    Msi PT8-Neo LSR
    Pentium 4 2.4C 533fsb (non-ht)
    1gb 266 ddr ram (2x 512mb)
Connect 3D radeon 9700pro 128mb (Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer in perma High mode)
    Creative SBLive value!
    IBM Deskstar 60gb ide1 master
    Seagate Barracuda 30Gb ide1 slave
    Plextor cd writer ide2 master
    Seagate Barracuda 80Gb sata 1
I think the idea mentioned before might be worth a shot... I can feel a full install of windows coming on.. more self torture
    Edit
Yes, during the course of the day I did install the latest ati catalyst drivers and dx9 also..

  • Z77MA-G45 and Radeon 7850 Incompatibility?

    Hi Folks,
I helped a friend pick out components, and build, his first PC.
    Intel i3 3225
    16gb G.Skill Ripjawz CL9 DDR3 1600
    XFX Radeon 7850
    MSI Z77MA-G45
    Thermaltake TR2 500W
I have tried updating to the latest MSI official BIOS for the motherboard (1.9). I have installed a Radeon 4870 I had lying around (it draws 166W compared to the 105W of the 7850), the display works with the 4870 video card, onboard video also works. However the 7850 does not work. I have tried every bios setting related to video or PCI-Express; the PCI-Express 3.0 option to both Auto and Disabled. I have set the options for IGD and PEG, and tried both. Voltages coming from the power supply are within spec. No pins are bent, the CPU is installed correctly, and the HS is seated properly. Temps are in the 40Cs for the CPU and in the 30Cs for the Motherboard.
All signs at this point, suggest the video card being at fault, however, upon returning to the store it was purchased, the tech tested the card in their test bench, and proclaimed it worked fine. The question I have is: Is there some kind of incompatibility at work here? I know there is an "added more VGA compatibility" to the release notes on the BIOS updates, is it simply that I need to wait for a new BIOS revision for the motherboard to get this card to work?
Thanks in advance for any potential solutions anyone can throw my way.

well as there are 2 parts that have to work together it could be either! unless the video card can be updated as it may just be that it can't be excluded!
as the board works with another graphics card and that the graphics card works in a test bench then it will more then likely be the VBIOS being Incomparable on the HD7850 (thats quite common)! do you have someone you know that may be willing to let you try it in there machine thats possible something like a 1155socket or even a AMD socketed board (AM3, AM3+, FM1 or FM2) thats got PCI-E gen 2 compatible slots on it?

  • Intel iCore3 + Radeon 6470+FGLRX

    Hi!
I have installed xf86-video-intel and xf86-video-ati . My xfce4 with compiz is working. I want to install proprietary driver for radeon. I'm doing as it is written here:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AT … repository
    When I run this :
    pacman -S catalyst catalyst-utils
It says that catalyst utils conflicts with libgl. But libgl is needed for intel-dri and amd-dri. So I remove xf86-video-intel,intel-dri,xf86-video-ati,ati-dri.
After this catalyst can be installed. Also I installed catalyst-hooks. It compiled module for kernel. Running aticonfig --initial was without problems.
After reboot X didn't start. In Xorg.0.log there is message from fglrx "Invalid Video BIOS signature". And little earlier: module "intel" not found. May be that's the problem?
How can I install catalyst and have "intel" module at the same time?

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc NI Seymour [AMD Radeon HD 6470M] (rev ff)

Unfortunately no. I don't have this option in BIOS. I know that recently HP released BIOS updates for some laptops to have this option, but not mine. Mine is g7-1110SO ( LS448EA ).

  • Radeon 9700Pro fine on K7N420

Just thought I'd post that I received my Radeon 9700 Pro in the post today, and installed it one my K7N420 motherboard just fine.
I thought I would post this because some other people have been saying that the R9700 is getting lock ups on there systems, and it seems it is either due to the PSU or the motherboard. So far it seems to be a few VIA chipset motherboards.
But I have been playing around on it all day, and I have had no lock ups, or BSOD's.
Here is my 3Dmark score I got just after I put it in:-
    http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=4405568

Is your score obtained with the extra floppy power connector plugged into the VGA card?
PS Your score is a bit low (like 2000 points) did you use the latest drivers for your card?
its 300 quid over here for one of those babies :O

  • HOWTO: Wine + Gallium Nine and PRIME (Intel+Radeon)

    Hi guys,
I've been trying the past weeks to have a working Wine with d3dadapter backend working with my Intel + Radeon hardware.
Finally after troubleshooting some issues on #d3d9 I've managed to have it working.
    Requirements
    1) Working DRI_PRIME configuration.
    2) Add mesa-git repository (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Un … s#mesa-git)
    3) Replace system mesa and install git versions of ati and intel drivers:
    # pacman -S mesa-git
    # pacman -S xf86-video-ati-git xf86-video-intel-git
    4) Make sure Xorg and graphics acceleration still works on both Intel and Radeon.
    5) Install wine-d3dadapter-git from AUR
    6) This is the important step: Recompile xf86-video-intel-git and enable DRI3 (--enable-dri3)
Not needed anymore, xf86-video-intel-git from mesa-git now has DRI3 enabled out of the box.
6a) Added Feb 4: new xf86-video-intel-git versions require
    Option "DRI" "3"
to be set in Xorg.conf for DRI3 to be enable.
Please refer to my configuration (http://pastebin.com/E6S9W7iG) if you need help to set up a working Xorg config for dual-card setups.
Just save it as /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-gpu.conf and make sure to change the BusID values to reflect your hardware
    7) Run winecfg and enable Nine -- Graphics tab, check "Prefer native Direct3D 9"
    8) Not necessary but fixes games not starting due to unknown GFX card errors (i.e. Insurgency):
      8a) Start regedit, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Wine -> Direct3D
8b) Add a DWORD key "VideoPciDeviceID", value "0x0402"
8c) Add a DWORD key "VideoPciVendorID", value "0x10de"
      Ref: http://wiki.winehq.org/UsefulRegistryKeys
    9) Start Wine games with:
    $ env WINEARCH=win32 DRI_PRIME=1 thread_submit=true wine program.exe
thread_submit=true is a Wine Nine flag to fix weird rendering on PRIME
    10) Check the console output for a green "Native Direct 9 is active." message
    11) Enjoy!
    What can I expect?
    Unigine Valley: native + mesa ~10fps,  wine-staging + catalyst: ~12fps, this solution: ~25fps
    Insurgency: wine-staging + catalyst: 10-45fps, this solution: 30-75fps
    Tested on
    Archlinux x86_64, mesa-git 67611.76086d7-1, xf86-video-intel-git 8724.ed19b16-1, xf86-video-ati-git 3167.04da199-1, linux-mainline 3.19-rc3

    Sony Vaio VPCSA
Radeon driver is using GLAMOR acceleration instead of default EXA, as suggested by the Nine developers -- EXA may work, not tested.
    Hope this helps.
EDIT: added note that I'm using Glamor instead of default EXA on Radeon.
EDIT: no need to recompile DRI3 on xf86-video-intel-git anymore, it's already enabled if using mesa-git repository.
EDIT Feb 4: DRI3 needs to be enabled in Xorg.conf

@eazy, I have identical setup but I still can't get this to work on radeon (it works on Intel, though obviously frame rate is unplayable).

    Hi,
I have exactly the same problem: games keep going freezing after a while. It was worse at first, then I disabled the "spread spectrum" in bios. It was then better, but still freeze from time to time (once or twice an hour) during games (morrowind, jediknight, hitman2).
I also tested the solution of snoopkoira, but did not work. Anybody else has an idea?

  • Problem with recognising radeon 6490M graphics card on Pavilion dv6-6176sa

    So,
My laptop was having some issues recently with the graphics, it basically wouldn't recognise either the intel or the radeon graphics card. I tried updating all drivers under the sun but nothing worked. In the end I formatted my computer and reinstalled windows, did all necessary updates windows and HP ones. Now my laptop would recognise both the intel and radeon in device manager but my computer was constantly using the intel card, I read up a bit and figured this would be due to an issue with the switchable graphics.
I did the bios and drivers updates and changed switchable graphics to fixed mode, this seemed to do the trick and my laptop ran like it should be for a few days. This morning I start watching some of my shows and then my screen freezes and it starts making a bunch of noise (similar to what it was doing pre-factory reset). Oh dear, I turn it off, and leave it off for a bit figuring maybe it had overheated. I turn it on again, now device manager wont show the radeon card and AMD catalyst produces a warning message saying that there is no AMD driver compatible with the CCC (well it was just fine yesterday, no updates, program installations or anything run since then)
I'm now wondering whether there may just be a hardware issue and that it's time to pack in my laptop or if this could still be a driver issue.

    @Piids
Download and install the most current AMD graphics softpaq.
You can get it from the download section of your notebook's web support portal.
Do not install the Intel graphics driver softpaq seperately. Doing that will remove the switchable graphics feature.

  • New Intel graphics, OpenGL and CS6

Currently I'm using an iMac in my home studio but I need to buy a notebook this summer for work, and I'll be using Adobe CS programs so I'll likely have to upgrade to CS6. I'd like to buy a 2.4 GHz 13" MacBook Pro to save a little money (since I have a killer iMac), but I notice the MacBooks now have Intel integrated graphics instead of nVidia. How is OpenGL 2.0 implemented on the Intel graphics chip? Does it work o.k.? I have a chance to buy a late-model 15" MacBook Pro with the discreet graphics card for not much more money, but I don't think I can afford a new MacBook Pro with discreet ATI graphics.
I am looking for advice: Do photoshop and illustrator work well on the Intel graphics chip?

    Hi tmazzullo,
I can answer your question with "It depends". I am having issues with non NVidia Graphics Cards while working in Mountain Lion with Illustrator CS6 and applying shadows / effects to text and objects. Everytime I am trying to do this, illustrator crashes.
If I use a Mac with NVidia it works without any problems. But Intel or Radeon cards force illustrator to crash. I tested this very often on all versions of Mountain Lion so far released an on several Macs. Same result every time.
Everything else I use in Photoshop or Illustrator works like charm. No problems at all. The Intel HD 4000 is faster than the NVidia 9600M GT in my old MacBook Pro.
I am designing almost every day in Photoshop and every two days in Illustrator. I have not tested the 3D functions much, so I cannot give you any advice for this.
If you are sure you are not applying effects to your objects in Illustrator, go for the small portables.
    Hope this helped.
    Edit:
I have opened a discussion concerning this issue. So maybe there will be an update one day.

  • Did the new agp drivers help anyone with the problems with 9700PRO

just wondering if the new agp drivers from via fixed any issues with people with MSI and/or radeon 9700PRO
I used to experience crashes in games only when I overclock to 333FSB but none at 266FSB. I did get 600 more 3dmark2001SE points by using the new agp drivers. But I tried battlefield 1942 and my video locked up when I boarded an airplane in the wake island mission. I had never experienced a freeze with the old agp and am interested to know how others have made out.

  • G500 with Radeon HD 8750, new games not working.

    Hi,
I have a Lenovo G500 with Intel HD4000 and Radeon HD 8750M switchable graphics.
I was having trouble getting Kings Bounty: The Dark Side to work and also Divinity Original Sin.  They were just crashing to the desktop.  I updated the graphics driver from AMD's site through their autodetect facility.  Once it upgraded the drivers, the "Configure Switchable Graphics" option disappeared from the menu.
After hours of messing about trying to fix that, I ended up doing a factory reset and instead install the latest drivers from Lenovo's site.  The driver package contains an older driver for the Radeon 8750M, but at least this time I haven't lost the "Configure Switchable Graphics" option.
However, when telling the graphics option "High Performance" for those two games, they both still crash to the desktop.  Using "Power Saving", hence using the integrated Intel graphics, the games work, but obviously have a very low frame rate.
Is there any chance that the official driver package from Lenovo can be updated to contain the latest Radeon drivers?  Or do you think the issue lies elsewhere.  Remember this is a clean install of Windows 8.1 since the OneKey factory reset.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the reply.
If I update it with the driver from AMD's site, it loses the ability to configure switchable graphics, so I think it needs to be from Lenovo.  i.e. a bundled Intel and Radeon driver with switchable graphics.  Installing the driver direct from AMD makes the "configure switchable graphics" option disappear from the right-click on desktop, and it's a real palava to get it back.
The games work with the Intel, they only crash when High-Performance is selected, hence why I'm pointing it to the Radeon driver needing updating.

  • HP Pavilion dv6-6130eo, Radeon HD 6770M, switchable graphics, update Catalyst Control Center

    Computer: HP Pavilion dv6-6130eo
    I have installed windows 7 64 bit
Graphics cards: Switchable Intel and Radeon HD 6770M
So far, I have been using the graphics driver provided by HP including Catalyst Control Center, and it has been working fine.
I recently bought a new game: Wolfenstein:New order. I fulfill minimum requirements.
When trying to run the game, I am informed, that my Catalyst Control Center must be 14.4 or newer: Fatal error, and game cannot run.
How can I update my Catalyst Control Center to 14.4 or newer? Both graphics cards (switchable) should be working.
Thanks a lot in advance - This issue is really getting on my nerves!

  • 648Max and Radeon 9700 - Im confused

I just installed a Radeon 9700 pro. I was getting a beep sequence when booting and it would go no further. I would just restart the computer and it would come up fine.
Everying appears to work fine after that but I do not like things to work any other way than perfect.
I looked into these boards and have been reading alot about this issue and so I checked my versions.
    I seem to have A revision 1.0 Motherboard and a revision 1.1 Radeon 9700pro(D33011).
Should I talk to MSI and ATI about replacing them?

i had boot problems with this combo when i first bought them. msi asked me when i purchased the MB and asked for a number on the box tht shows what month it was made.  if it was made last september they had a issue with 9700 and the board and they rma''d the board and everything works fine now.
dont know if that would be your fix though but i would suggest talking to them.
other than that make sure your using bios 1.1 or 1.3 (heard 1.2 was problematic for 9700) and that your power supply is adequet.
      Edit:
just saw you had rev 1.1 of the 9700. that rev has had boot issues with agp 8 MB's.  so if the problem i described doesnt fit yours(not made in sept) you might talk to ati about getting a rev 1.3 or higher.   i had to get the 1.3 when i was using a via agp8 board and people on Rage3d had problems with the same issues on the sis 648 boards also.
