Hi, this is not just HP, all products with the Sandy Bridge processors have to be replaced and the motherboard fixed.
Not true, did you look at the link I posted above, Intel listed the processors and related bad chip this problem is related to, and it is not all of the i3, i5, i7 sandy bridge processors.
Here is the official list from Intel, there is a lot of misinformation out there, but i think Intel would know for sure for some reason don't you?

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Mark released a statement yesterday in this thread, which was also started yesterday, shortly after the announcement.
As far as I'm personally aware there are no ThinkPad systems on the market with the second generation cpus and Sandy Bridge chipsets.

  • Early Chipset Initialization error: One solution

I too was plauged with a non-booting K8T_Neo board that stuck on "Early Chipset Initialization" according to the lights. I knew my Thermaltake 480w PS wasn't it - and sure enough it was the RAM like others have said. I was trying Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series, (Twin Pack) 184 Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-4000 - Retail. So today I picked up some Crucial PC3200 256mb sticks and bingo I'm in.
Later today I'll fiddle with the timings to see if I can get the Corsair to fire and let you know what happens. Buyer beware!

  • Intel finds Sandy Brigde chipset design flaw

    Hello!
This is my first post at Apple forum, and my first post with new MBP 13''.
I was searching for some news about new MacBook Pro (2011) and I found this:
    http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/31/intel-finds-sandy-bridge-chipset-design-flaw- shipments-stopped/
I am a little worried because I bought the new model of macbook pro and I'm searching for some informations about it. I have checked the Intel website and I came across this situation
    http://www.intel.com/consumer/products/processors/chipset.htm
Do I have this problem? And if so how can I contact someone to help me solve this?
    Should I be worried?
    Best regards,
    Renato Baptista

You don't have this issue. Even if you did it wouldn't affect the laptops anyway as it only affects SATA ports 3 and upwards.
    From the second article:
    ====
    Q: What is the issue?
A: Under normal operation, Intel® 6 Series Express Chipsets have an issue that may impact SATA ports 2-5. Contact your system manufacturer for more information.
    ====
Your laptop only has 2 ports - 0 and 1.

    Hi Marcelo,
Yes, there are some requirements for certificates in Expressway.
    Expressway Core (Exp-C)
    - Can be signed by either External or Internal CA
    - Better to use a cluster name even if you start with 1 peer in Exp-C cluster. In the future, if more peers are added, changes would be minimal.
    - Better to use FQDN of cluster as CN of certificate, this way the traversal zone configuration on Expressway-E won't require any change even if new peers are added to Exp-C cluster.
    - If CUCM is mixed mode, include security profile names (in FQDN format) as Subject Alternate Names
    - The Chat Node Aliases that are configured on the IM and Presence servers. They will be required only for Unified Communications XMPP federation deployments that intend to use both TLS and group chat. (Note that Unified Communications XMPP federation will be supported in a future Expressway release). The Expressway-C automatically includes the chat node aliases in the CSR, providing it has discovered a set of IM&P servers.
    - For TLS b/w CUCM, IM-P & Exp-C
+ If using self-signed certificates on CUCM, IM/P. Load Cisco Tomcat, cup, cup-xmpp certificates from IM-P on Exp-C. Load callmanager, Cisco Tomcat certificates from CUCM on Exp-C.
+ If using Internal CA signed certificates on CUCM, IM/P. Load Root CA certificates on Exp-C.
      + Load CA certificate under tomcat-trust, cup-trust, cup-xmpp-trust on IM-P.
+ Load CA certificate under tomcat-trust, callmanager-trust on CUCM.
    Expressway Edge (Exp-E)
    - Signed by External CA
    - Configured Unified Communications domain as Subject Alternate Name
    - If using a cluster, select FQDN of this peer as CN and FQDN of Cluster + this peer as Subject Alternate Name.
    - If XMPP federation is being deployed, enter the same Chat Node Aliases as entered in Exp-C.

  • Design Exercise - LAN Solution

I have an opportunity to gain employment with a network consulting firm. Part of the process is to take some information that goes through a mock RFP and come up with a design. It is an excellent way for them to see what I have to offer given all the channels available in coming up with a design. I believe in the process of collaboratoin and was hoping I could engage some willing individuals to work with me in creating a design for a LAN Solution, Wireless Solution and WAN solutions. I have until next Wednesday to put something together for a presentation next Thursday. So if you like practicing your design skills and would like to work with me on this excercise, I would greatly appreciate it.
The purpose of the excercise is not overerly technical in nature, but more high level. Here is the scenario:
    Overview
The Widget International Group (WIG) is a prominent organization in the Upstate New York market. The WIG is looking to expand to a new regional office and build a new network. The network shall consist of high-availability, layer-3 routing, redundant, and fault-tolerant network equipment. Applications such as Voice over IP, Video over IP, WLAN, Voice over WLAN and possibly other leading edge applications may be utilized and, therefore, must be accounted for in this solution. The solution shall permit LAN segmentation via VLAN’s, and support VRF’s to avoid spanning tree issues. The solution shall support software modularity, to allow the switch software to be upgraded or downgraded with no service disruption, provide protected memory space for critical processes, and enable processes to be restarted independently of one another. Careful planning should be done to ensure that the WIG network has the flexibility to accommodate future applications. In addition to the solution parameters set forth in the following paragraphs, WIG would like the Contractor to review the overall functional requirements of the RFP and, coupled with the Contractor’s prior project experience, make recommendations on equipment and network configurations that may be overlooked in this document. All recommendations that are outside the requirements set forth herein, but may be of interest to WIG, shall be provided as an alternate solution and price. A separate Bid Form should be provided for each alternate solution and the Contractor shall state in their proposal which solution is most recommended for WIG and the reasons why.
The Contractor will be responsible for providing a turnkey design and installation solution based upon the parameters described. The design effort required at a minimum will include, but not be limited to:
    Logical Network design presentation
Physical Network design presentation identifying all components to be sourced by Contractor or furnished by owner.
Description of diversity, redundancy and security aspects intrinsic to the design.
Identification of any impact the new design will have on existing environment configurations (i.e. redefining IP schemes). If it is prudent for WIG to make adjustments to their IP Schemes in their existing environment, then they will require support for this also.
Support for Open System Standards - The solution should be support open system industry standards, such as H.323, 802.1p and 802.1q, MGCP, SIP, TAPI, JTAPI, IPV4, IPV6, etc.
System Administration - Maximum flexibility for rapid, efficient, and cost-effective configuration changes, affecting personnel and associated IP telephone equipment through a standard browser-based interface.
    LAN SOLUTION PARAMETERS
The complete data network core shall consist of two (2) chassis-based switches with redundant power supplies, two (2) supervisor-engines/CPU modules per switch and the appropriate quantity of line cards to support 10GB fiber uplinks to the edge switches in four (4) IDF closets. Uplink quantities are outlined in table 1 below. Core switches shall connect redundantly between each other, to the WAN equipment, as well as the edge switches in the respective TC’s. All 10GB uplinks shall be non-blocking. Edge switches shall be located in the TC’s in sizes and quantities required to support the number of users in that particular area. WIG desires a stackable edge switch.
There area total of 200 users.
10 Servers with basic services such as email, HR applications - CRM, and Active directory.

    Hi Mheick,
since this is part of a hiring process, I don't believe this is the proper forum to ask for assistance. The potential employer wants to know what you would do.
Collaboration and team work are very important elements in the work environment but not for job placement. However,  researching on the web or this forum to find useful information is all you need to do to develop your own solution.
And, if a company is expecting this as part of the hiring process, expect to be grilled over your RFP - if you can't validate your RFP and defend your choices .........
    Best of luck. Regards,
    Steve

  • Management VLAN Design and Implementation

Greetings, friends.  I'm having trouble getting a clear picture of how a management VLAN ought to look.  I just installed a Catalyst 6509-E as my core switch, and as soon as they arrive I'm going to be replacing all of our other (HP) switches with Catalyst 3560X switches.  I understand the reasoning behind segregating traffic, not using VLAN1, etc., but I've never actually implemented a management VLAN--I've always just accessed the switches via the IPs assigned to them where all the client traffic flows (not VLAN1, by the way).
Is "management VLAN" simply what we as humans call a VLAN we dedicate to management activities, or is there something official in these switches to designate a "management VLAN?"
Is it best practice to include SNMP, netflow, syslog, and NTP as "management" traffic?
There's a lot of documentation talking -about- management and management VLANs, but unless I'm blind or not looking hard enough I can't seem to find any implementation whitepapers or best practices whitepapers that demonstrate setting one up on a campus LAN.  Are you able to point me in the right direction to find such documentation?  Is it perhaps buried in a manual somewhere that isn't explicitly labeled "Management VLAN Design and Implementation" or somesuch?
What is the best practice for accessing the management VLAN?  Inter-VLAN routing + ACLs?  Multi-homed PCs or servers?  Additional PCs to be used as access stations?
Thank you for your wisdom, experience, and advice!
    Kevin

    1. Yes, you may want to keep this traffic separate of the other traffic limiting device management access to just this vlan, as this prevents eavesdropping.
    2. Indeed all other housekeeping goes via this VLAN altough you could limit it to the interactive or session traffic.
    3. On a campus you could think of one big VLAN spanning the campus, one a multi-site environment or where you use L3 to go to you datacenters you probably need multiple management lan's. I've seen implementations where the management traffic was kept separate and even didn't use the routing protocol in use. The whole management lan was statically routed and would work even if OSPF or BGP was down.
    4. I feel a situation where the people providing support are connected on the lan giving access to the devices is probably best. A dual homed pc is a good solution I think, other customer feel the management lan should be treated as a DMZ accessible via a firewall,  but the hardcore customer insist on a second pc connected to the management lan.
Points to consider are as always,
Find the single point of failure. Any device, L2 L3 firewall that could cut off management from accessing a part of the network.
Find the right balance between security, costs, easy of access for the business your in.
    Cheers,
    Michel

  • Activate design manager (sandbox) solution using power shell - SP2013

    Hi All,
I have a  design manager (sandbox) solution and deployed in site collection. I am trying to upload the new version using power shell.
Uninstall-SPUserSolution , Remove-SPUserSolution, Add-SPUserSolution and finally doing Install-SPUserSolution on that time i am getting the following error " Install-SPUserSolution : This file may not be moved, deleted,
renamed, or otherwise edited." kindly help me for this issue.
    Regards,
    Santhosh

Can you please provide more details on your solution package? Did you use SharePoint Design Manager to create design package? If that is the case then if you read the following article it reads and
"In SharePoint 2013 you cannot uninstall an imported design package, and you should never attempt to deactivate a design package through the solution gallery."
I think if you read the article it might be helpful.

  • Nvidia, usb and intel 5000v chipset - pain redefined?

    Hello,
I am encountering a very strange problem. My system randomly 'kills' USB-devices:
    - keyboard stops responding or behaves wired (like hammering a random button)
    - mouse freezes
    - usb-sound freezes
    - usb-sound produces sometimes noise while moving windows in X around or using the mousewheel
    - usb-devices don't get anymore power (LEDs are off)
I've tested every usb-device on other machines - they are fine. It does not seem to be a some kind of electrical problem (using ferrite cores and active usb-hubs). Further I've tested every usb-related setting in the BIOS.
This lasts until the computer is rebooted - plugging out and in again has no effect.
There are no notifications in dmesg like "usb X-Y: USB disconnect, address Z".
Except for once, I've seen something like "xxx PCI Problems?"...what kind of brought me to the idea, that it might could have something to do with the pci-usb-bridge or the graphicscard. I paid more attention to the interrelation of strange USB-behaviour and "graphic-events": moving around windows with compiz-fusion caused massive noise on the usb-sound card. While moving windows without compiz-fusion (e.g. in fluxbox) caused less till none noise.
I reproduced this behaviour on 2.6.24 and 2.6.25 and the following nvidia drivers 169.12, 169.09, 169.07, 173-something and 171.06 within Arch
...and last  but not least, with Gentoo 2008beta1 and Ubuntu 7.10 (whatever versions of drivers/kernel where installed on that two systems). There are no errors when manually loading the module nvidia or within the xorg-logs.
So...next step was to test another graphics-adapter. I borrowed an ATI X1550 PCI card from a friend - no problems at all (though no 3d acceleration), system was stable.
I decided to give the opensource nv-drivers a chance (just to see what happens). And, as you can guess, the same as with the ATI card: system was stable. (This fact might also exclude the mainboard as source of endless pain).
I am currently running this configuration:
Tyan Tempest S5372LC (Intel 5000V Chipset) with up to date BIOS
    Geforce FX 5500 256mb, 128bit, PCI
I have, for god's sake, no idea what's wrong. I'm down with my nerves.
Is this a bug? Am I just _too_ blind to see something obvious? Or is this something for the X-Files?
Any idea how this could be solved or what the real problem is, is highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
Sorry, if its hard to read - it's quite late here and my English is not that good anyway.

    Hello,
according to this list: http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/L … dix-a.html the FX5500 GPU is supported by the unified driver.
Besides Ubuntu installed the unified driver... assuming that its hardware recognition is right.
I could give the legacy driver a shot, although I'm not sure if "legacy" excludes support for never cards.

  • Intel 7205 Chipset Problem (MS-6565)

I've posted here a few times referencing a problem I've been having with the machine I built (detailed in signature block).
I've had some kind, but unhelpful responses from folks on this forum -- thanks to everyone who responded.
In short, I've been plauged (sp?) with graphics device failures.  Microsoft error reporting rersponds that it is something wrong with the graphics driver of card.
I found some information in a review of the new Intel 875 chipset based motherboard.   Please read at:
    http://www.motherboards.org/articlesd/motherboard-reviews/1245_1.html
Basically, it states that the 7205 has a problem with AGP.
I have sent numerous (okay -- only three) querries to MSI, but have had NO RESPONSE.  If any of the senior moderators have an inside track with MSI, I would appreciate your asking if they intend to do anything to address this problem (fix with a bios update -- replace cards, etc.
    Thanks,
    Wyn

MSI isn't going to answer any questions on this board becaused they seem to have washed their hands of any responsibility.  I had (repeat HAD) the same board with the same problem.  After two months I stopped waiting for MSI to answer me back.  They never did.  Look around these forums and you'll find that this is typical of this company.
Here's the best advice I can give you.  Take your MSI board and walk to the nearest trash recepticle.  Proceed to hold this piece of&^!$ board of it and let go.
I took a loss on this board and I can assure you that I will never make another MSI MIStake again.  I went out and got a cheapo GIGABYTE board and had ZERO problems with it from day one.

After upgrading to Lion, Image Capture does not work, even though it is intel software.  Gives error 9931.  What gives?

Ouch, if it is indeed damaged, then sadly you need to restore the whole danged huge OS!
Didn't used to be this way before Lion/10.7.
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

Does Designer support transfering logical design to implementation...and vise versa?
Is Oracle Designer a pure modeling tool doesn't support transferring logical design to implementation...and vise versa?
Or there's a way to pull existing oracle database table structure into Oracle Designer and shown as diagram? The database and designer are same version 9i.
And the other way around...to make the design of table structure from Designer model diagram becomes the real tables in database?
I've asked this question in Meta link, funny they never reply.
    Thanks,
    Jess

Designer supports transferring logical design to technical design to implementation and retrofitting implementation (an existing database structure) to technical design and retrofitting technical design to logcal design.
So the answer to all your questions is YES.

    Hi John,
I'm trying to install the SunMC 3.5.1 Console on
Windows XP with not much success. The install
displays the initial splash screen, but then fails
    with the error :
    The install wizard cannot proceed.
Aborting installation now...First, are you installing from a complete SunMC CD or CD image? If you just copied some files out of a CD/image you may have missed some jar files.
SunMC Consoles don't like to share systems with older versions of themselves. Try moving/renaming the directory your 3.5 Console is installed in (or uninstall it if you don't need it),... then try putting 3.5.1 in again.
All my demos/work/courses are on 3.5.1 on an XP laptop, so I know it works.
I think it's probably just not happy about 3.5 already being installed... so just move it out of the way for awhile to get 3.5.1 in (then put 3.5 back so you can have them both).
    Regards,
    Mike
The Java version is 1.4.2_03 .
The Release Notes etc don't give any clues.
Strangely, SunMC 3.5 works fine on this desktop..
Any ideas as to where I can go from here? This is
effectively stopping me from going from SMC 3.5 to
3.5.1, unless I can get the Console working..
Has anyone else had problems with SMC 3.5.1 on XP?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Seagate Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer error '80043ac4'

Website slows down when users are running reports. Users start getting errors when running any crystal report. After sometime main page itself stops loading and only static html is visible. Following is one of the errors users see:
Seagate Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer error '80043ac4'
    Invalid directory.
    /opera_mort2/report/AlwaysRequiredSteps.asp, line 54
Other errors seen on reporting site at that time are

    Unexpected error
    /opera_mort2/report/rpt_level.asp
A trappable error (C00000005) occurred in an external object. The script cannot continue running.
    authentication and network errors.
Rebooting the Web Server temporarily fixes the issue however the error recurs again after a day or two. We are seeing this problem in both our PROD and DR server. There was no change done to either of these boxes recently.
Also at this pint IIS was crashing. Microsoft Support analyzed the crash dumps created from IIS and came up with the following:
"All the memory dumps captured showed the same DLL that was accessing corrupted memory. This same DLL would also be the one that had originally written to those addresses. The DLL was craxdrt.dll from Crystal Reports 8.0 ActiveX Designer, which was version 8.0.1.0 from 1/28/2000. This DLL should be updated to see if this issue has already been fixed. Other options are to recycle IIS more frequently and move to a new version of Crystal Reports."
Here is a detailed analysis from Microsoft Support:
The issue appears to be heap corruption. Normally these are difficult to troubleshoot, however, in this case every memory dump that I looked at had the same component involved.

Something must have changed. Were any patches or auto updates done to the OS?
CR 8.0 has been out of the support cycle for some time now.
As Microsoft suggested please log in and download the patches for CR 8.0 from:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/businessobjects-support
If that does not resolve the issue the only option will be to schedule sn IIS restart each night.
