Intel IHC5 SATA Support

Hi -- Just downloaded Solaris 5.10 for X86_64 and again the install
does not see the Intel ICH5 SATA Controller.
What can I do to circumvent this issue --- I've search Sunsolve and I found nothing ---
Is this a known/resolvable issue?
I look forward to all of your responses.

SATA drives on Intel ICH chipsets should work in P-ATA compatibilty mode,
if you enable that mode in the system's bios.

Are Intel P55 chipsets supported by OVM 2.2.1 or planned for OVM 3.0?

I agree with Avi... looks like you are planning to setup a new system to run Oracle VM on.
One thing to keep in mind, not sure if you plan to use it in a server environment or a home setup, if you do it for your own learning on a consumer system you have to keep in mind that Oracle VM is build for server systems and not all is working out of the box on a consumer system. For example SATA disks might not work. You will need to be able to run AHCI on your board to get Oracle VM to reconize your sata disks.
So if you run into this issue please do check this blogpost I have written down when I created my last test server at home with SATA disks: http://johanlouwers.blogspot.com/2010/10/oracle-vm-and-sata.html
Might be solved in the next release however not sure when it will be available to the world.
    regards,

  • Which intel cards DO support vaapi?

I'm not sure if multimedia is the right section and not hardware...
I tried to find something about which intel graphic cards support vaapi and the information i found is not very good.
Something like "G45 or newer" does not really help me...
I have an eee 1000h with intel 945GME running with the i915 driver. I think I cannot use libvaa there.
Some websites say you need poulsbo = GMA 500 (whatever this chip is) or i965?
As I am not very familiar with intels chips this does not really help me:
    http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/vaapi
It says "Intel Embedded Graphics Drivers (IEGD)" and this includes support for "Mobile Intel® 945GSE and 945GME Express chipsets" which is my card I think.
Is this included in the i915 or do I need something in addition to this driver or do i need to replace it or am I just misunderstanding what it is saying?
Can someone clear it for me? Maybe with a list of supported cards?

Intel doesn't want to publish the information because of the massive overhaul that they've been doing in their driver model. In short, it's not ready. Freedesktop's Intel implementation is by Intel itself, so they'll only publish what Intel publishes.
The GMA 500 (Poulsbo) is a piece of crap on Linux right now. The most stable driver with any kind of acceptable performance is uvesafb, which has no 3D, hardware decoding support, or color management of any kind. There is no stable driver for this platform for Linux (or even Windows the last time that I checked).
The problem with all of this for desktop users is that desktop Linux is not a priority for Intel. If they have even four developers working full time on the entire Linux stack with desktop use in mind I'd be surprised.
And, to complicate this a little more, uvesafb doesn't work with the latest stable kernel at the time of this post (2.6.34)...
    http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/19645
so, if you haven't already bought a netbook wich comes with the poulsbo chipset (i envy you), my recommendation is: don't do that, at least for now, because poulsbo support under linux is _very_ uncertain ATM.

  • External SATA support?

I know some PC motherboards include extra SATA connectors on them that aren't always pre-connected for you. Does the Mac Pro have any extra SATA connectors on its motherboard?
I just saw this deal at Shop4Tech (http://www.shop4tech.com/user.htm?go=view_item&id=5849&siteID=Es5Ekr9eEBk-Gqhcdo kOkqNlKYq4SwHL1w) which is only $24 for an external SATA enclosure. But I'm wondering if there's any way I'd be able to connect it to my upcoming Mac Pro.

There is external SATA support for the Mac Pro using PCIe host adapters. I tried cabling the two SATA ports on the board to the rear of the Mac Pro but they do not support hot swap - so you have to restart each time you change hard drives on them. Not an ideal solution.
    I found a better options.
    1. Get a 2-port WiebeTech Tera Card TCES0-2e for $99.99
    http://www.amug.org/amug-web/html/amug/reviews/articles/wiebetech/tces0/
    2. Get a FirmTek SeriTek/2SE2-E and use the FirmTek 2SM2-E driver with it until the new Mac Pro EFI firmware comes out that will allow this card to be bootable.
    3. Call Addonics at 408-433-3898 and ask them to sell you a ADSA3GPX1-2E
flashed with the BASE BIOS b7.3.13 for $39.99 for the Mac Pro. Tell them AMUG sent you. Then use the SiI-3132 Mac driver version 1.1.6 found here:
    http://www.siliconimage.com/support/supportsearchresults.aspx?pid=32&cid=3&ctid= 2&osid=3&
I have three of the Addonics cards in a Mac Pro which provides 6 external hot swap SATA ports. You can use them for RAID or individual hard drives. So when someone tells you that no external SATA ports are available for the Mac Pro they just don't know
    Have fun!

  • Z87 MPOWER and Intel VT-d support

I'm considering buying the motherboard, but I can't find definite info anywhere that states if it does in fact have Intel VT-d support or not.
The manual mentions some generic "Intel Virtualization Tech" but that could easily be just VT-x.
    So, what is the truth?

  • Intel 520 SATA III SSD causes atapi errors, but stock Hatachi SATA II does not

W520 Received March 2012. Took out stock Hatachi HTS72322A7A365 500GB SATA II drive and replaced with Intel 520-Series 240 GB SATA III SSD also put a second identical SSD in drive bay. All went well until a few days ago, now getting scores of Atapi - Event ID:11 - The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort0.  Either of these two SSDs bring up this error on channel 0 (underneath laptop).  NEITHER (NONE) SSD brings up the error in the drive bay.
Put the Hatachi back and no error.  What happened over the last few days?  Hatachi SATA II no error; is there a W520 hardware problem with very high speed SATA III SSDs?  Why the degrade all of a sudden?  Bad chip set? BIOS was upgraded to latest, but still errors. Don't think there were any WIN-7 / 64 updates.
Call Lenovo to replace laptop?  But NO errors with the stock / supplied SATA II Hatachi, just the SATA III SSD on channel 0, but not channel 1, so do I have a claim?  Any ideas?  I'd buy the wimpy Lenovo 160GB SSD (it's approved) for channel 0, but it's SATA II not III.  SSD or W520?
    W520 4282W59 WIN-7-64 i7-2760QM @ 2.40GHz 2401 Mhz, 16GB Memory, NVIDIA Quadro 1000M

I did a hard drive copy from the Intel 520 SSD in chanel 0 (underside laptop) to a new Samsung 830 256GB SSD in channel 1 (Ultra Bay).  Remember I get the atapi errors on channel 0 with the Intel 520 SSD in chanel 0.  The copy took longer that I thought it would.  Then I put the Samsung in chanel 0 and the Intel in chanel 1 UltraBay.  Reboot.  No atapi errors!  The Samsung DOES NEED "enable write caching and turn off buffer flushing" or it performs badly compared to an Intel 520 SSD.  The Samsung (using ATTO and AS SSD) comes in at 475-495 MB/s with "enable write caching and turn off buffer flushing".  It performs half that if "enable write caching and turn off buffer flushing" is not checked.  The Intel SSD performs at 485-505 MB/s no matter if "enable write caching and turn off buffer flushing" is checked or not.  These are general observations and are dependant on transfer size, queue depth and so forth, but this observation is repeatable.
So, all things being equal, one might conclude that the Intel 520 SSD is not compatible with the W520.  NO.  NOT.  I put that Intel 520 SSD back into chanel 0 and booted up.  Again see atapi errors.  Next I did a complete software update from lenovo.  Checked and installed all updates, recommended, critical, so forth.  Ended up with all that bloatware.  Big battery and Wi-Fi icons on notification area task bar...  Ran the ATTO and the AS SSD in parallel.  No atapi errors.  Disk rates way up there at 500 MB/s.  Ran MalwareBytes in parallel with MS Security Essential in parallel with ATTO in parallel with AS SSD.  No atapi errors and still great disk rates.
Nest removed as much Lenovo bloatware as possible. Reboot.  Still NO ATAPI ERRORS.  The Intel 520 SSD is better than the Samsung 830 looking at AS SSD and ATTO, but the Samsung is quite respectable.
Solved? Yes mostly.  I took another Intel 520 SSD that was always used as a one for one copy of my chanel 0 Intel 520 SSD.  I put this other, identical copy, Intel 520 SSD in chanel 0 and again saw atapi errors.  I upgraded Lenovo software, but only the one critical update (Intel ACHI SATA Driver 11.2.0.1006).  Reboot. No more errors, BUT this (identical copy) Intel 520 SSD only works at SATA 2 rates.  ATTO and AS SSD never go higher than 250 MB/s.
I will keep trying and get to the bottom of this.  Maybe I'll install all that other Lenovo updates and see if the "copy" Intel 520 SSD goes up to 500 MB/s.  Maybe I'll just copy the "working 500 MB/s" Intel 520 SSD to the "copy" Intel520 SSD but this is like giving up.  Jimbetto, I would recommend doing what I did.  Install ALL Lenovo updates and see if your problems go away.  Or, copy to a Samsung 830 and then see if your problems go away.
    Any comments from the group?

  • Need software for Intel ESB2 SATA RAID Controller for Windows 2012rR

I have installed Windows 2012r2 on my HP XW8600 and I found the software for the LSI Adapter (SAS 3000 series) but I am unable to find the software for management of the Intel ESB2 SATA RAID controller.  The only software I could find was listed as a Windows 7 application but will not install onto my Windows 2012r2.   Thank You

That looks exactly like the software I tried and an error reported this software will not install on this platform.  I will try again tonite and see what happens.  I will test all the apps on that list starting with the latest and see what happens. I thank you for your help.

I doubt that this will work, but try ir5 and go to forge.novell.com

otherwise you would need to get a hacked version of the zdm 7 stuff or even

  • SATA-supported by ICH10R vs. SATA-supported by JMicron 363

As the title suggests...is there one that should be used over another?
I do not plan on using a raid array.
Does it matter which ports I use for the HDD or an optical drive?

The primary Intel ICH10R Controller can support a maximum of 6 SATA-Ports/drives and does not support old-school IDE-Ports/drives anymore.  In order to have additional SATA ports (more than 6) and an IDE Interface, there has to be a different/additional chipset that controls them.  And voila, there you have a reason why there is an additional controller which controls additional ports.  The point is not to provide you with a choice but to provide you with more connectors in case 6 SATA ports are not enough and a legacy IDE Port is needed.  The fact that you have a choice is more of a side effect.
Which one of the two sets of ports you decide to use, is totally up to you.  There may be differences in performance, but they are rather insignigicant.  Just test and see what suits your needs better.

  • Intel 80gb SATA SSD (problem)

I got the new 80gb SSD from Intel.  I unplugged my IDE hard drives and plugged the SSD into SATA port 1 on the PM8M-V mother board.  Installed Windows 7.  Everything seems to work great.
The BIOS doesn't have any mention of SATA nor is SATA listed as a valid boot choice.
If I plug my original IDE hard drives back in, the computer boots right up to XP as I would expect.  After updating the VIA drivers, I can now see the SSD in Windows XP.
If I just unplug my XP boot HDD, the machine doesn't get past the Boot from CD prompt and hangs.  I was hoping it would find the OS on the SSD and boot Windows 7.
So, I can either boot the SSD with Windows 7 without my hard drives or boot the hard drives with Windows XP but I can't figure out how to boot from SSD (SATA) when my IDE drives are also attached.  IDE drives are for storage (my OS will be on the SSD).
Booting Windows 7 from SSD is a dream though so I hope I can get this working.
    Any Ideas???  Please???

It is confirmed that this board only runs on VIA controller for SATA and RAID.

  • Intel Raid1 SATA + Promise Raid1 IDE - Doesn't work! :-(

    Hi,
I've been using 2 x 200GB Maxtor SATA drives on the Intel controller on an MSI 875P NEO FISR2 for months quite happily. I had a couple of 160GB IDE Maxtors lying around so i thought i'd make use of them on the Promise Controller. When i added the drivers and configured them for Raid1 all seemed fine. I formatted them in XP and started to use them. Things seemed a bit odd when i noticed that somthing seemed to be locking files after i'd copied a file over a network share to this PC using the Promise Raid1 IDE disks.
Whenever i clicked and selected or right clicked and viewed proprties for a file on this raid1 on the promise controller, if i tried to delete, amend or move the file XP would tell me that the file was in use by another person or program.
I've spent days on this and i know that no one else or another program is using this file. I can say this for sure as i totally formatted the PC and did a totally clean install of XP and created Restore Points before each driver was loaded. The problem only occured after i installed drivers for the Promise 378 controller (Driver version: 1.00.1.29
). I'm using the current ones off the MSI website (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/download/dld/spt_dld_detail.php?UID=434&kind=1). The ones off the original CD won't even detect the promise controller. I also updated the bios to v2.4. I have nothing else installed on this PC, no other drivers or programs, its Windows XP SP1. If i install the promise drivers i get this file locking problem, if i restore prior to installing the promise drivers then everything works fine.
Has anyone ever setup a Raid1 using SATA drives on the Intel controller and a Raid1 using IDE drives on the Promise controller at the same time?
This should be possible shouldn't it?
Having lost lots of data in the past, i'm over cautious now and like to have Raid1 everything! ;-)
Thinking maybe the latest drivers from the MSI website might be buggy i tried some others that i found for the same controller but now i just get an error code 10, the device cannot be started...

  • Macbook1,1 Intel Core Duo: Support for 3gig RAM??

    Hi All,
I've recently upgraded my rather standard MacBook from 80gig HD 1gig RAM (2x512) to a 320gig HD and 2gig RAM (1 x 2gig card). I really wanted to insert a further 1 gig of ram, thus having a 2gig and 1gig in each slot.
However, the computer doesn't seem to boot with 3gig installed.
    System Profiler tells me:
    Macbook1,1
    Intel Core Duo
    2 Ghz
    1 processor
    2 cores
    2MB L2 Cache
    2GB memory
    667mhz Bus speed
    Boot ROM version: MB11.0061.803
    SMC version 1.4f12
I keep reading conflicting reports all over the support site, with some saying macbooks can hold a max of 2gig ram and other saying 3gig is supportable.
I fear that my model may be too old to run 3gig? Is there a firmware upgrade or similar that might allow me to expand to 3gig?
Any tips, advice, feedback or even jeers are welcome!
    Cheers,
    Dan

  • Help needed - boot disk - SATA support?

I've been trying to flash my bios with the latest patch for the 865PE Neo2 FISR
However when i boot from the floppy into dos i don't have access to my hard drive to run the flash program. I'm assuming that this is due to the fact that i'm running 2 SATA HDD's in RAID 0 format. If this is correct are there specific boot disk images that have support for RAID?
    Thanks in advance.
    Dave

With NTFS file system, you need to make a Win98 boot disk. Go to
    http://www.bootdisk.com/
and get a Win98 or WinME OEM boot disk.
Copy your flash program and bios image to a second disk.
Boot from the Win98 floppy. This will create a ram drive c:
Change to that drive by typing
    C:
Then put in your bios floppy and copy all the files to the c drive:
    copy a:*.*
    Then flash
