Intel imac wall-mount cable question

I plan on buying a new intel aluminum imac (24") within the next few months. I already have the iLift (aluminum) wall-mounted monitor arm with the necessary apple adapter. Here's my question: I would like to minimize the number of cables coming out of the back of the imac as well as the amount of clutter on my desk. Is there a solution that would let me run one firewire cable about 5 feet to an external firewire harddrive and a usb hub?? My goal is to be able to attach other devices to the hub instead of the ports behind the screen. ideally a mac mini look-alike external hd with a matching hub to sit underneath it. Thanks.

iOgear makes a Firewire + USB combo hub but it still requires that you run two cables one for FW and one USB. http://www.iogear.com/product/GUH420/
Then there are some new wireless USB hubs you can take a look at:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,138190/article.html
This is a nice looking Belkin combo hub but the only thing I do not like is that it's not powered. http://eshop.macsales.com/item/BELKIN/F5U507/
Probably the best one I've seen is this one because it fits your description: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/MSFWU20GBSW/
However the only thing about all of these are they don't have Firewire 800 which would be faster for an external hard drive.

  • Intel 24" iMAC wall mount

Hey all I hope this isn't a topic that has been pounded on a lot (my forum search didn't turn much up), but I am trying to find a wall mount for my iMAC and thought this would be the best place to ask.
    Thanks,
    -Stephen

The 24" iMacs can use any standard VESA mount (used for computer monitors and TVs). You can find them at various computer and office supply stores. There's a very wide range of models available. I don't have a particular preference.

  • IMac Wall Mount?

Does anyone know what, if any, options are available for wall-mounting the new iMac (Intel Dual Core)? I recall the old G5 iMac had such a wall-mounting option, but in checking various reviews in the Apple Store, I noticed a few comments suggesting that such options might have recently been phased out. Whatayathink? Thanks.
iMac 2 GHz (Intel Dual Core)   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

This has been discussed previously, and the answer is no.
The problem is the foot, as it is not removable - at least not without a lot of work & violating your warranty. And even then you are left with the problem of attaching the mount to the back of the iMac.
There are some wall/desk mounts that has a tray for the monitor to sit on - we have them at work. Some have brackets to secure the base of the monitor to the stand.
One other wild suggestion is to literally cut off the foot & devise a bracket to attach the left over portion of the foot to the mount. This also may void your warranty. This is one option I have been kicking around since I got my Intel iMac.

  • Wall Mount cables for phones

Hello all, I was wondering what kind of cables you use to wall mount your cisco 7911 phones. When we try to use a regular cat 5 cable the RJ 45 end is to big to actually allow the phone to be mounted.

No we are not. We are just using the wall holes on the phone. We do not require the wall mount kits and prefer not to use them. We also can not use them because a lot of our building have wire mold boxes installed.

  • Intel iMac not mounting disc

    Friends...
I am sore from banging my head on my desk. I have a 18 month old Intel 20" iMac with 4Gb of RAM. After upgrading to 10.5.6 I can no longer mount CDs or DVDs.
I load a discs and the drive thinks about it then nothing happens. I then CANNOT eject the disc without rebooting. Sounds like busted hardware, no?
Here's the kicker... when I boot from a leopard DVD, works fine OR if I boot option off I can then see CDs and DVDs.
I am at a loss, since it's obviously not hardware flaw. Any help before I suck it up and pay for a repair?
    TIA
    M

Eric, when you start/restart the computer, just after the start-up noise, press and hold the mouse left click. Make sure is a USB cable mouse. The iMac should eject the CD/DVD stuck inside.
Also, if it's just a software problem, you should be able to start from the Installation Disk without any problems. Insert the Installtion Disk and press C at start-up.
If you have another Mac with a DVD drive, put that one in Target Disk Mode (press T after the start-up sound) and connect it to the iMac using a Firewire cable. Start the iMac and press Option key. You should see the Installation Disk from the other computer.

  • Does the first white intel imac support usb3 cable?

Just wondering if a USB3 cable CF card reader will work on on my USB2 port on my old Intel 24" white iMac?

USB3 is downward compatible with USB2.   So you can plug a USB3 cable into a USB2 socket.

    UPDATE:
Customer support advised to return the machine back to Mavericks, just to check if the problems will continue, I restored it to the last known version that worked without problems (10.9.5) and right now system and the machine work as new, etrecheck shows no errors on the disk, and now 2 hours of using it not one I/O error showed up.
Thanks for the help, and I hope this helps to others that might have the same issue

  • Is there a way to connect and view an external monitor only on my Intel iMac?

I have an Acer 15.6" monitor connected to my Intel iMac via VGA cable and Mini-DVI to VGA adapter. I am running Lion (V10 7.3) and would like to direct my image to the external display only. The preferences pane does not offer that option. Is there some way to do it?

Do you have a desktop machine running iTunes?
If so then yes, setup home sharing and you can stream anything in your iTunes library to your iPad.
    It works good.

  • Late 2012 27inch wall mount

Hi, I have a late 2012 27inch imac with a standard stand problem is now lack of room means I need to wall mount it any 1 got any ideas what I can do?

    Hi, doesn't sound hopeful...
iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2012) and iMac (27-inch, Late 2012) computers can be configured to order with a built-in VESA mount adapter when ordering via the Apple Online Store. The iMac with built-in VESA mount adapter lets you attach your iMac to a VESA-compliant mounting solution, such as an articulating arm or wall mount (sold separately).
    Additional Information
VESA mount adapter upgrade kits are not available for iMacs with a stand. When an iMac is ordered with the built-in VESA mount adapter, the stand on the iMac is replaced with a VESA mount adapter and the iMac cannot be used with the standard iMac stand.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5619
No idea if you could adapt one of these...

  • How to wall mount imac 20 inch intel? Any body has tried

How to wall mount imac 20 inch intel? Any body has tried

The iMac 20" doesn't have a VESA-type mounting bracket on the back (the 24" one does). If you're brave and have the white plastic model, you can try [adapting an old iMac G5 mount kit|http://www.wikiela.com/wiki/Howto_wall_mount_a_Core_2_Duo_Intel_iMac_20_or17].
For other models, you can use the VESA adapter from [www.imacmount.com]. These are adapters that clamp a VESA-style mount bracket to the aluminum pedestal stand for the iMac. You can then attach the iMac (pedestal and all) to any VESA-compatible mount. Here's a picture of an 20" white iMac fastened to a wall using this method (same works for newer aluminum iMacs and the white 17" ones too):

  • How do I cable a FW 400 and a FW 800 to my 24" Intel iMac?

This is a "duh" question, but I've only been a Mac user for a year.
I have an early 2008 24" Intel iMac with a 1 TB HD and 4 GB of RAM. I also have a 15" MBP (summer 2007 vintage).
My main computer is the iMac. I have two external HDs, a G-Tech Mini 500 GB drive with USB2 and FW 400 and a new OWT FW 800 750 GB drive. They are both used for backup--not using Time Capsule.
How do I cable the two drives together and then to the iMac? I have file sharing configured so that the MBP might be able to access the external drives as well.
    Thanx, Linnie
24" Intel iMac (aluminum), 2.8 GHz, 4 MB RAM, 1 TB Hitachi 7200 rpm internal drive

    Hi,
At the back of your iMac there should be two firewire ports, one 400 and one 800. If you are trying to cable the two drives together and use a single wire to connect to your iMac, I don't think it is possible, instead connect each HD's individually to your iMac's two ports.
In iMac, if file sharing is turned on you can access these HD's from your MBP. If for some reason these two drives don't show up in MBP's Finder, from MBP, connect to your iMac from Finder's "Go" menu item "Connect to Server...", then choose those two drives, one at a time.

  • Question about Intel iMac's and Airport

I'm going to be purchasing an Intel iMac within the next few months and I just want to make sure I have my facts straight about the Airport issues. Is it true that the Airport issues only occur if you're using an Airport base station (do they not occur if you use a third-party base station?). And do you think the issues would affect the speed of my 512k Internet connection? If anyone could post their own experiences, that would be great.

    Hello,
I have been a P.C. user form the beginning of time the VIC 20 to "08088 processor", Windows 1.0 to XP-sp2 and I have made a big change in our life and my family but we are not disappointed but surprised. Make the big step Apple is on the right track and going to be the top. As for your question don't worry.
    My opinion
About your issues, if your are on DSL there are many issues. IMac is not the your problem it would be your provider. For airport no problem, third-party I would choose linksys. My choice for connection is Cable high speed..
    Take care, Bill

  • Wall mount for IMAC

    Hej
i was going to by a imac ,and hang it on the wall but???
the imac G5 vesa wall mount dose not fit ,the new Imac
    what can i do??
is it possible to by any wall thing!!??
    thanks Søren

Sorry, but unlike the first two iMac G5 versions, the preceeding models (iSight, Intel CD) are not VESA compliant and the stand cannot be removed in order to accommodate a wall mount or an articulating arm.
In my opinion, this is something that Apple should have kept throughout all its iMac models. Such a shame to have that all in one setup and not be able to mount it on a wall---where it would be perfect.
So now I have an iMac G5 (ALS) mounted on the wall and an intel CD that has to remain on its stand. Too bad, they would have looked awesome up on the wall together!

  • Are there any wall mount brackets for the new iMac 27" 5k?

I have a wall mount (Bretford) for my Cinema HD Display that I have been using since 2008.  I just purchased the new iMac 27inch 5k computer.  It would be great to be able to use this computer with the wall mount.  The ones that are available (VESA) from the apple store and say they will work with some older iMacs.  My question is are there any available for the iMac I purchased? Thanks.

Hi. The VESA mounts for the iMacs are not "changeable": either you buy an iMac with a pedestal, either you buy one with a VESA mount, but you cannot switch, because the VESA mount is the first thing built in the iMac. You would need to sell your 5K iMac and buy a VESA 5K iMac.

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/.
