Intel Iris Pro Graphics and Premiere Pro CC

Hey everyone,
Does anyone know if Premiere Pro CC supports GPU acceleration with Intel Iris Pro Graphics from the new Macbook Pros? This video from Intel clearly shows that it's possible for Windows but what about Macs?
http://software.intel.com/en-us/videos/accelerating-video-production-w ith-opencl-and-intel-iris-graphics
I'm interested because I know OpenCl performance with Iris Pro should be stellar compared to Nvidia 650m and 750m.
Thanks!

Only in the OpenCL department as the Intel has no CUDA capability at all

  • Mac Pro 2013 and Premiere Pro - The performance issue that Adobe don't want us talking about!

In May 2014 I bought a 2013 Mac Pro to help my business with the ever increasing demands video editing was placing on our systems.  I was so excited to see how the 12GB of power the AMD D700s would affect my workflow and ability to edit footage seamlessly without delays to the creative process.
However, to my dismay pretty much since starting to work with the system I found that there was an issue with the GPUs, Mac OS and Adobe’s applications.  It was first reported by many other users in early 2014 and as yet know one from Adobe has really commented officially on the issue.
Sadly it appears to still be present today and speaking with an Adobe rep confirmed this.  Trouble is no one is doing anything about it.  My hope is that, if you have watched this video and are experiencing the same issues then please let’s get the comments going, share and like the video and let’s get Adobe, Apple and AMD to pick up this with immediate haste! Thank you.
Below is a video of the problem I have been experiencing.  It's a little long but I wanted to give a good account of the problem we are seeing so that someone can help! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE help!
Mac Pro 2013 and Premiere Pro GPU Issue - YouTube
Thank you for your time and I'd love someone to help!

Thanks for responding!  It's such a pain and I have been chatting to one of Adobe's senior consultants about this and still none the wiser.  I have sent my machine off to the retailer as it was still under warranty.  Nothing wrong with GPU apparently which is a relief although I kinda wish it had been that as it would have been an easier fix.  Adobe told me that working with H.264 is totally possible but if you have a complex sequence with multicam and nested video with effects applied then it will seriously hinder performance.  Sadly transcoding to ProRes doesn't seem to help either and they suggested not adding any effects to the nested clips, flattening out the multi cams etc and this has improved things a bit.  Sent a sequence to SpeedGrade the other day though and the machine had a fit.  FCPX though seems to be working great and has a few advantages over Premiere so I may be making a switch for this type of work until Adobe can sort out this issue.  I still feel that the application isn't fully making the most of the GPUs.  In fact, I found out that multicam is actually all still on the CPU and that they are trying to implement GPU handling of multicam soon.

  • Is there any reason I need both premiere pro cs6 and premiere pro cc on my computer?

any suggestions would be great. Thanks!

I'd also recommend keeping Premiere CS 6 around until all the "legacy" projects you're working on are well and trully finished.  Unless you like that feeling of uncontrolled panic, I would recommend *NOT* porting a bunch of "in progress" work over to Premiere CC!
I've got one, rather complicated project, that I'm working on and I think CC will make it easier but, rather than risk all the work I've already done in CS6, I've copied the whole thing over to an external drive and renamed the project so I can always, easily, go back if CC gives me trouble

  • Can I install both Premiere Elements and Premiere Pro on my computer?

I use elements but I want to learn premiere pro so I just installed it but in the process elements was deleted.  I still need elements to finish projects I've started in elements.  Is there a way to have both programs on my computer and use both elements when I want and premiere pro when I want?
Is it possible to open an elements file using premiere pro CS6?  I tried but it didn't work.
    Thank you.

    ATR,
    I agree completely.
Without every version, over the last 10 years, of each program, it's almost impossible to tell a poster, "Yeah, that will work... "
It's the same with Premiere (not Elements, but the program before the "Pro" designation) and Premiere Pro. I inherited a big Project, originally started in Premiere 6.5 on a Mac. I had PrPro CS 2 on a PC, and all of the Project files Opened very well. IIRC, there were a half-dozen Transitions, that I did not have, but PrPro gave me the name of the Transition, plus the TimeCode of where it was used. All I had to do was change the missing one to Cross-Dissolve (do not know why the original editor deviated from that?), and all was good. However, when Adobe went with the Pro version, it was ONLY ported for the PC - no Mac support at all. Then, with PrPro CS 3, X-platform support WAS added. If a Mac user had an earlier Premiere, or Premiere Pro Project, before CS 3, they had to find a PrPro PC-user, with PrPro CS 3, who would Open that earlier file, then Save_As, so that they could Open it on their Macs, with later versions. Real "hands across the aisle" thing. We PC guys helped many Mac users to get them up and editing, but it was tough to explain all the ins-and-outs to them. Lot of confusion in those days. We do not see it that often now, as Premiere, up through version 6.5 are fading into history.
Also, to add to that confusion, Adobe shook things up, with the release of Premiere 7.0, also officially called Premiere Pro 7.0, but also Premiere Pro 1.0, at the same time. Most countries got only PrPro 1.0, but not all. Even some Adobe Staff folk do not realize that there were three, coincidental names for basically the same program. And, as that was the point of transition to PC-only, puzzle over what version a user really has. I have had a few state that there was NO Premiere Pro 7.0, and that it was ONLY Premiere 7.0, or Premiere Pro 1.0. I have seen the boxes that show that some folk DID get a program officially named Adobe Premiere Pro 7.0. Just a bit of arcane history.

  • Two version of PP on my updates, PP Pro CC and PP Pro CC (2014)  Why two? What's the diff?

I seem to have two version of PP Pro and don't know why. There's Premier Pro CC and Premiere Pro CC (2014) Are they different versions? Are they doubled up? Should I get rid of one? I'm trying to clean my computer anyway and streamline everything so I don't want extraneous programs.
I also have InDesign CC (2014) Install and InDesign CS6 Update options. Are these different? If I install (2014) will it replace CS6 so I only have one of those?
Using a Mac, latest Yosemite version, 10.10.1
    Thank you!

When Adobe came out with the Cloud the intention was to retain one version and update as developments occured.  THey failed to meet that goal and ended up producing the CC 2014 version which is additional to the original CC.  If you do not want the original CC you can remove it.  If you have InDesign CC 2014 and know that you pay a subscription for it then you can get rid of the CS6 version.  Some people prefer to hold on to older versions in the event they need to create an older version to return to their clients (who don't have the newer version).

  • MacBook Pro Retina 13 with Intel Iris graphics breaks Premiere Pro CC hardware output

    Hi all,
I just recently got a MacBook Pro 13 Retina, to use for basic editing as a secondary system to my iMac. The MacBook Pro sports a Intel Iris integrated graphics system. When I use GPU acceleration (Open CL), my Blackmagic or AJA Thunderbolt I/O outputs solid green. When I switch to software only, video plays back fine.
I'm running Premiere Pro CC 2014 on Mac OS 10.9.4. I've read that Adobe is now optimized for Intel Iris graphics using Open CL, but why is mine not working when using external video IO?
    Anyone run into this?

Does switching off Wifi make a difference?
In UK and USA (and quite a few other places) you have 14 days from purchase to get a refund or replacement - no questions asked.  If there is nothing running then this does sound to be depleting rather fast.  My late 2013 13" MBP retina gives me about 10 hours using Pages (several documents open) and e-mail only.
Get a replacement and see if you get the same problem.

  • Is there a big difference between Intel Iris Pro graphics and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory

Is there a big difference between Intel Iris Pro graphics and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M graphics processor with 1GB of GDDR5 memory, is it worth paying an extra $200?

Software support of graphics card is key.   If no graphics card is mentioned in software specs, then it can be ignored.  Mostly games and high end image and video graphics software are affected.

  • New pc for AE and Premiere Pro CS5

I'm in process of building a new PC.
I just started working with After Effects and Premiere Pro and my current PC is not really up to all the 1080 footage...
I currently own a E8400 with 8GB DDR2 Ram and some cheap motherboard (Intel DQ35JO) for reference.
    I already own 2 x Samsung HD103SJ "Spinpoint" F3 1TB HDDs and a XFX 6850 Black Edition 1Gb which I plan to keep.
    I have 2 options:
    1)
    Intel i5-2500K
    Gigabyte P67A-UD3-B3
    G.Skill F3-10666CL9Q-16GBXL Quad Kit 16GB (4x4GB) PC10600 DDR3
OCZ Vertex2 E 90GB 25/S300 SSD for system files (windows, program files, etc...)
I can get this for about 570 EUR / 820 USD
    2)
Intel i7-980X ot i7-980 (is there a big difference between them performance wise?)
    Gigabyte G1 Guerilla
    3 x G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL 8GB (2x4GB) PC12800 DDRS (for a total of 24GB or RAM)
OCZ Vertex3 120GB 25/S600 for system files (windows, program files, etc..)
    I can get this for:
    - with i7 980 -    1145 EUR / 1645 USD
    - with i7 980X -  1485 EUR /  2133 USD
Will the 2nd option make that much of a difference in AE and Premiere Pro that is worth 2x-3x more money?
    Thanks for opinions

    Thanks for a fast reply.
Ok, let's say skip the overclocking for now (I used to overclock a ton back when it was Celeron 600 and similar CPU time , but I'm tottaly out of it now...not really on track with the overclocking of new CPUs...it used to be simple back in the days)
    I'm ditching the 2500k option.
If I'm not overclocking, I could get a rather cheap motherboard
    Asus Sabertooth X58
    Intel i7 970/980/980X
    16-24GB ram
    GTX570
Combination of this is between 1150-1550 EUR / 1600-2250 USD depending on different choices.
Considering I'm not willing to overclock, is there to expect THAT much of a difference with 980X and 24GB ram against 970/980 (they're priced the same) with 16GB ram (considering it is 30% difference in price...will it be 30% faster in AE and Premiere Pro?)
I suppose this is my last question, don't want to bother you too much

  • AMD FirePro D500 and Premiere Pro CS6 and After Effects CS6?

My company just recently purchased the new 2013 Mac Pro with the AMD FirePro D500 graphics cards. Everytime I try to open After Effects CS6 I get a GPUManager Sniffer Result Code: 3 error and Premiere Pro CS6 sits on the splash screen indefinitely. Does Adobe not play nice with the new card? Am I out of luck?

In effort to fix the problem while waiting for a response I unstalled both AE and PP CS6 but not I can't seem to reinstall them from anywhere.... so I don't know what version of After Effects I have/had.

  • Bad performance quadro 4800 and premiere pro

Could someone please help me understand if somethings wrong with my settings or if my 4800 is defected?
I run OSX Lion 10.7.2 and have the quadro fx 4800 installed in a:
    Mac Pro 4,1
    2 x 2.93Ghz Quad-core Intel Xeon
    12GB of Ram
with two additional Geforce GT 120 installed too.
the latest drivers for the 4800
    GPU driver version: 7.12.9 270.05.10f03
    CUDA driver version: 4.0.50
I run Premiere 5.5.2 and have tested the performance with the two different settings:
    Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration
    Mercury Playback Engine Software Only
I did this test because I didn’t feel my 4800 did the work I’ve read everywhere it should. Adding simple text titles to AVCHD footage made my playback drop frames.
Anyhow, I tested my machine with 1920x1080 AVCHD and added video layers until I started to see stutter during playback. First with “Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration”. With 14 video layers sized down so you could see them all beside one another playback started to drop frames. The yellow line was still yellow in the top of the timeline. Shouldn’t it turn red if the footage needs rendering?
I then switched to “Mercury Playback Engine Software Only” and the yellow line turned red. The strange thing is that when I played back the same 14 layers of video the dropped frames where gone!! Isn’t this beyond strange??? Shouldn’t everything run more smooth with the “Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration”?
Has it got anything to do with my Geforce GT 120 installed? Should I get rid of those? My two 24 inch apple displays are both connected to the 4800.
PLEASE help me or redirect me to some good forums!

After testing final cut (which I love) and Premiere back and forth with the exact same media I notice that editing prores in Final cut is the best when it comes to just edit the film. Sure Premiere does take native MTS files but what good is this when it doesn't run fluidly? Comparing playback and editing with prores in Final Cut and Premiere makes me realize that on my computer, don't ask me why, a rendered sequence with prores material in Premiere is far more jerky than a sequence with prores that "do not need render" in Final cut. Shouldn't they be the same?? Movements like camera pans that originally were shot really smoothly isn't as smooth as they should be playing back in premiere (and yes I know I got the right sequence settings and all). Final cut however gives me what I want.
To me it all comes down to how good the editing App presents what you currently are editing. Adobe has many advantages with the dynamic link and so on but playback is a such an important part of editing!! Has anyone got the same problem with "not as smooth playback as you would really want" even though the sequence is rendered displaying a green line??
Thanks for the links lasvideo but I practically read every article there is about CUDA, premiere and mercury playback engine already.
Anyone knows anything about Adobe CS 6 release dates?

  • PE 10 and Premiere Pro CC on the Same PC?

I am thinking about upgrading to Premiere Pro CC from Premiere Elements 10. I am running PE 10 on Windows 7, 64 bit, 16GB RAM, Intel i7-3820 CPU @ 3.60 GHz. Will I still be able to open and use PE 10 after I download and run the PP CC CC software? A couple years ago I upgraded from PE 1 to PE 10 and found that I was no longer able to open PE 1, nor was I able to load any of my PE 1 projects into PE 10. If possible, I'd like to be able to run both PE 10 and PP CC on the same desktop PC

    geozucco
Premiere Elements 10 and Premiere Pro CC are standalone programs.
Although I have not tried it first hand, I am almost sure that you can install both on the same computer and use one at a time. But, you can do better than my speculation, you can download and install the Premiere Pro CC tryout and determine how it performs in your computer environment.
Based on Supported Import Formats, I am not seeing you opening a Premiere Pro CC project file in Premiere Elements 10 Windows.
And, I have doubts about opening a Premiere Elements 10 Windows project file (.prel) in Premiere Pro CC Windows. According to the Premiere Pro CC Supported Import Formats, this is possible. But, a current thread suggests otherwise.

  • After Effects CS6 and Premiere Pro CS6 Long Startup and Application Hang

    Problem:
After Effects and Premiere Pro CS5.5 and CS6 are very slow to start all of a sudden.  Around 5 minutes to get to/by the intro dialogue box.  For AE, the majority of the time is spent on the "initializing user interface." Then, if I can make a comp, and even a layer inside that comp, it will "Hang" if I attempt to open AE's General preferences for example (no preferences window ever comes up).  This "hang" is what the Event Viewer in windows calls it, with the faulting module being afterfx.exe.  Premiere is not much different.   It makes it to the new project window fast, but after setting project parameters and creating the first sequence, I can't get into the preferences either and the application hangs.  It is important to note that if I have another application open, like Chrome or Firefox for example at the time the application hangs, they will freeze as well.  As soon as I kill the Afterfx.exe process, they come back to life.
I have read nearly all threads on the subject, and am struggling to find a solution:
Deleted preferences folder under my username's appdata.
Turned off Firewall (network traffic from dynamiclink, qtserver, etc was allowed, but what the hay)
ran windows system file checker/malwarebytes/rkill/rootkit detection.
checked for windows compatibility checkboxes under the file.
    Uninstalled Wacom Tablet drivers
    Disabled Aero
Started with ctrl-alt-shift to delete pref.
uninstalled video driver and replaced with one 6 months ago.
uninstalled, reinstalled, and tested various quicktime versions back to version 7.69
    moved plugins folder
moved opengl's plugin out of the folder temporarily
Disabled all 3rd party codecs (xvid was the only one installed and for months)
    reinitialized default directshow filters
checked for adobe font list (none found) and removed any fonts from 1 month ago to present.
used msconfig to selective startup without other applications/services running.
Uninstalled all adobe products, and reinstalled.
I performed all of these in a systematic manner, trying to solve the problem.  None have fixed the problem.
So it doesn't seem to be a network issue, a codec issue, a plugin issue, a driver issue, font issue, or conflicting application.  Any thoughts?
    System Info:
    PC Windows 7 pro 64-bit SP1
    Core i7 - 960 24GB ram
    AMD Radeon 6750  v12.10
    Adobe CS6 Master Collection

Who's says that Microsoft can't debug?
I used msconfig, first disabling startup items, -same result.
Enabled all startup items, disabled all non-microsoft services - AE worked!
I re-enabled each service in turn until AE crashed.
The fault was related to an item for a video streaming device I have in my house.  It was Monsoon-multimedia's Vulkano Service.  Sometimes under the old name of Hava, this is an app that acts like a sling-box to send my Cable TV to my screen.  It does load a couple of virtual devices in device manager, and uses a proprietary codec.
I uninstalled the vulkano streamer application and rebooted the external Vulkano device.  I reinstalled the Vulkano and verified it connected to the device and could stream.  Once it did, I tried AE again and IT WORKED!
I wonder if simply rebooting the Vulkano would have fixed it.  Its like opening the garage door to turn on the refridgerator.
    Thanks for the help!

Both are referencing cooltype.dll. I ran Font Doctor on all system and non-system fonts and found no errors. Booted without Extensis Suitcase loading. Nothing works. All 32 bit programs work fine. Any clues would be appreciated.

It does not necessarily mean a "corrupt" font, but can be a font that PrPro, and PS, cannot handle.
Though I have read that changes have been made, Open Office's DejaVu font would crash PrPro's Titler - every time. There are quite a few others. Font Dr, and similar utilities, will not see the font(s) as corrupt, but they are so poorly designed, that PrPro and PS cannot deal with them.
Though it can be a long, drawn out process, one can often zero in on the problem font(s), with a little work. This is accomplished by first defining the "System Fonts," and not touching them. Then, uninstall half of the remaining fonts, and testing PrPro and PS. If they launch fine, you know that somewhere in that list of fonts, the problem exists. If there is still a failure to launch, chances are good that the problem font(s) reside in that half, that are still installed. Note: because the problem still exists, does not guarantee that there are NOT problem fonts in that uninstalled group, so keep that in mind.
Repeat the proces, by uninstalling half of the remaining fonts and testing.
If necessary, repeat by removing half of the now remaining fonts and testing.
When you get to a point, where you are no longer getting problems, reinstall fonts, in small groups, testing in between. The smaller the groups, the easier it will be to pinpoint the problem font(s).
Keep notes on which fonts you are uninstalling and reinstalling, until you narrow it down to the problem font(s).
I would start by uninstalling any "free fonts," and then commercial, 3rd party fonts. A lot of free fonts are just poorly designed, and can cause issues, though they might work fine in some other programs.
I use a font manager, so that I only have ~ 350 fonts installed at one time, and then dynamically install fonts, as needed for Projects. That keeps my machine clean, and if, upon installation, I get a crash/hang, I know that at least one font in that Set is causing it. This helps, as my workstation has ~ 19,000 fonts on it, and some are free fonts, and many are from 3rd parties. Some are also very, very old.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - one common cause for hangs on loading PrPro can be from VST's, used in Audio-editing. If you also have a lot of VST's, you could have two issues with two separate programs, i..e. PS hanging on fonts, and PrPro hanging on VST's. The results would be the same, but the causes could be different. That leads to even more work. For PrPro, also see this ARTICLE. If you get PS launching, but PrPro is still not functioning, drop by the PrPro Forum, and someone can help you there.

  • IMac and Premiere Pro CS6 compatability

    Hi
I am currently importing HD footage off a DSLR Canon 60D (h.264) into an old macbook with PP CS4. I have to render every bit of footage before I can view it without juddering. Every time I add a transition or title etc, I have to render again to view it cleanly.
    It's time to upgrade.
I'd like an iMac. I know the cost arguments, but I am not interested in buying a PC. An iMac is cheaper than a MacBook Pro, and I'd like the extra screen space.
But I'm getting confused about what will actually happen if I try and work Premiere Pro CS6 on an iMac.
1.Will it simply not work? Or will it just not have as good as performance as it could?
2.Does it mean I would only lose out on the GPU processing?  With my DSLR footage, will I be able to watch it, judder free, without having to render it first?
3.If it does still fundamentally work, at what point would it start to falter? How much would I have to have going on in a project for it to need the power of the merucry playback engine?
4.Does anyone know IF a new iMac came out in the next two months, would it likely have the 1GB VRAM or would Adobe offer an update so that it worked with whatever the new iMac had. (eg the current top end iMac has AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 1GB, yet is not supported by CS6 - why?)
Finally, why do Apple and Adobe have to make this so difficult?
    Many thanks for anyone's help.

You could do some experimentation and see if the OpenCL text file works the same way as the CUDA text file.  I'm betting it does, but I have no direct experience.  I think it's worth looking into tho...
Open a new Finder window and navigate to the Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 folder.
Right-click on the Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.app icon, and chose  "Show Contents" from the menu.
A new window will pop open; open the Contents folder.
Double-click on the file named: opencl_supported_cards.txt.  If it asks you what application to use to open it, select TextEdit.
Now... be VERY CAREFUL what you type here.  Add a new line to the file and on it:  ATI Radeon HD 6790M
That's it.  COMMAND-S to save the file, COMMAND-W to close the file, and COMMAND-Q to quit TextEdit.
Alternatively, if you're comfortable in the UNIX environment like I am, open a Terminal.app window and do the following:
    cd /Applications/Adobe\ Premiere\ Pro\ CS6/Adobe\ Premiere\ Pro\ CS6.app/Contents
    sudo vi opencl_supported_cards.txt
Perform the above edit in vi, then save and close the file.
Start Premiere Pro back up and see if you have MPE available in hardware mode.  Bear in mind: you're not going to be supported by Adobe if any issues pop up due to MPE stuff... this is an aftermarket "modification" to your software.
