Intel mac and tv hookup?

hi, will it be possible to hook up the new mac to a tv? I'm sure it depends on what we have.
1. As for the tv, what do we need?
2. Computer, what do we nedd to connect?
3. Will we be able to view all our contents of the HD on the tv?
4. Quality, how good will it look?
5. Sound? Can we hook up a home cinema system? Limitations?
Any help in how to do this, if we can do this, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks all.
M

DVI is only on some of the newer TV's but most new and older one's will have S-video that can carry sound + video in one cable but depends on the tv to make use of this.
If you have then connect it directly to the graphics out connector with the Apple connector that comes with The Imac/IntelImac.
Just add a "earphone to rca" cable to get sound in there as well.
HD only if the TV is HD ready but should work as the new IntelImac's should have the latest ATI graphics cards that can handle HD out as well.
PS: have a look for/search for Elgato "EYE TV" or similar DVB (digital video broadcast) box that can connect either to your Mac + tv and this will be able to give HD output but check their site for info.
Also I have seen one/Elgato on EBAY today but is second hand "eyetv" under apple parts etc. etc.
Hope this helps.

  • Intel Macs and .exe files

I have a modem I got from Verizon for use with Verizon DSL. A check at the site of the modem's manufacturer reveals that this modem was made exclusively for Verizon and there are no links to support, etc., for the modem at the manufacturer's website (Westell Versalink 327).
On the DSLReports site, I learned that newer software for my modem is available and that I ought to install it. Of course, it is available only as a .exe file, which I have downloaded to my Mac.
My wife has an Intel Mac. We have never used it in anything but its Mac mode and I am clueless as to whether it is possible, without buying and installing Windows Whatever on that computer, to boot it up in the "other" system, attach the router modem, and run that .exe file and update the software on the modem?
Is there any easy way to go about this or should I just forget about updating the modem software???
    Thanks,
    Bob

If the exe file is only a windows self-extracting zip archive (which is not uncommon), then the free Unarchiver (http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/unarchiver.html) will open it on your Mac.
Otherwise, there are other solutions without the purchase of a Windows license, you can run many windows programs with Crossover (http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/) which does not require you to install windows, but still costs $59.99.
I guess the easiest way is just ask a friend who has Windows.

  • Using MS UAM with Intel Macs and Tiger (10.4.6+)

I oversee 50 macs in a server environment. The servers are windows server 2003. About 40 of the macs are able to change their network password via the MS UAM. The remaining macs are intel 10.4.6 and above or intel leopard machines.
Goal: The ability of intel mac users running 10.4.6 and above (leo too) to change their network password.
Let me be clear about the problem.
I have no problem connecting to any share / volume on any server. All file sharing is working properly. The only problem I have is that my users cannot change their password that the network requires for authentication. So, when the password expires, they have to go to a windows machine or use a non-Intel Mac. (I am not 100% sure, but I think this is also happening on 10.4.6+ PPC Mac's...correct me if I'm wrong)
Searching for a solution to this problem was unsuccessful. I found that there is no easy way to get the mac os to use the MS UAM instead of the OS X standard UAM's.
I came across a couple of articles from 2006 (two years ago) that stated there was no fix for this problem, but that apple was working on it. I am starting this thread to renew the subject matter. Does anyone know of a fix for this problem yet? Has Apple stated awareness that the problem exists? Has Apple stated that a fix is in the works?
    Please HELP!!!

We have the same problem here --- a high school of mostly Mac clients and only Window Servers.
Hate to think that everyone has to be funneled to an older Mac or a PC in order to do password changes.
I searched <http://www.mactopia.com> about this only to be further 'scared' by what William Smith of Microsoft says in <http://www.officeformac.com/.ee9b2bd>:
-----You should really consider using some third party software. Mac OS X 10.4
-----and higher use AFP 3.2, which has some incompatibilities with AFP 2.2.
-----Microsoft is not planning to update Windows Server with AFP 3.2 but
-----will instead remove File Services for Macintosh altogether after Windows Server 2003.
    -----Look into Group Logic's ExtremeZ-IP http://www.grouplogic.com or
    -----Thursby's Dave or ADmitMac http://www.thursby.com.
    -----Hope this helps!

  • Problems with Safari, Acrobat, Intel Macs, and Life Cycle Form Mgr.

    Here is my problem:
A Mac user using 10.4.10, with Acrobat Standard Ed v.7.0.9 installed,
is having to approve purchase forms through Adober Life Cycle Form Manager
through Safari 2.0.4. When trying to approve the PDF forms, it tells her
she needs to have Acrobat v.7 installed, and only shows a white page.
Went back and launched Acrobat 7.0.9, and did the "Detect and Repair"
setting to verify the Adobe PDFViewer plugin was installed.
Said it was, checked the Library/Internet Plugins folder and it was.
Launched Safari, Safari's list of plug-ins does not show it as being installed.
Trashed the Safari .plist file, relaunched Safari, same thing.
Read on the Apple site that people were experiencing similar issues,
Read on Adobe's site that for Intel Macs, should be using v. 8.01.
Downloaded the 8.01 Acrobat Reader and installed it.
re-launched Safari, success, it says the plugin, v.8.01 is installed.
Go back to Adobe Life Cycle Forms Manager, go to view a PDF,
at 100% screen size, PDF shows correctly. Zoom in on details,
PDF goes blank, will not show details. Zoom back out,
PDF goes white page, no info displayed.
    My Questions:
    1. is it an issue with Adobe Life Cycle Forms Manager and Safari on Intel Macs?
    2. Is there a way to get a proper plug in for Safari, so that Acrobat will read the PDFs
    instead of the default Preview?
    thanks in Advance

  • Intel Mac and ARD 2.2

I have followed the instructions on this site and gotten the ARD 2.2 admin to work on my Mac Mini so I can log into and control other Macs on my network, but I can not get the client side to work (which is what I really need).
In other words, how can my G3 powerbook (with ARD 2.2) get into my Intel Mac Mini? What settings are essential? Right now I have my sharing-Apple Remote Desktop off (I believe per the instructions for getting the admin to work)?

  • Replaced HDD on intel mac and it wont boot

Hi , My mom bought an Intel mac a couple years ago and it had a harddrive failure , instead of taking it back on warraty she put it in the closet.
So I thought I'd put a new drive in it and shed be happy.. so I bought a seagate 2 TB drive in it , but it wont boot , it just goes to a folder and question mark.. I cant seem to find a boot menu anywhere .I've tried all of the ways to get to the boot menu but nothing seems to work. I inserted the osx disc one and it accepted it but now wont eject it.. I'm just a bit frustrated ,. anyone have any advice ,
                                                                                                       Thanks

You must first prep the drive then install OS X.
    Drive Preparation
    1.  Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
When formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Complete the OS X installation.

  • Intel Mac and FCP

I have a lab full of macs. All g5 dual 2.5s. We are running OS 10.4.9, and FCP 5.1.4. They run perfectly. No problems.
A month ago I replaced two of these edit stations with two Intel Mac Pro dual 2.6, dual core Macs w/ 4gb of ram. They are running 10.4.9, and FCP 5.1.4 as well, but FCP freezes up constantly on these. I have run the 10.4.9 combo update on both. Same problem. Any ideas? Anyone run into this one as well?

Wondering if there might be a problem with your RAM. Run hardware tests and if possible, Techtool. Also, try editing with some media on your internal drive with graids disconnected. I've had a lot of problems with various firewire drives (although I worked with a multitude of firewire drives for many years without serious problems). Worth a shot to try and isolate the problem.
And although you said you were working in SD, you didn't say what format. DV? If so, do you have a deck and/or converter connected to your computers?

  • Problems sharing an InDesign file between new Intel Mac and PC

I created an InDesign document on my new Intel MacBook using Rosetta I assume, only to find I am unable to open it at work on a PC running Windows. On the PC I get a message that the filename contains one or more unrecognized characters.(Filename was a short five letter word.) It suggests changing the name in Windows, which I tried, but it still will not open. In the past I have effortlessly moved InDesign documents between my old G4 iMac using OS 10.3.9 and the PC. The only difference now is OS 10.4 and the intel based MacBook. Before this problem however, InDesign, which seemed to work fine in Rosetta, had some trouble holding onto fonts. Linked files would turn into gobbledegook that looked like a missing font (font used was Arial, which is a universal font) when the MacBook was shut down for a while, then restarted. Relinking to the original Word file seemed to fix the problem, until the next time I shut down the MacBook, when it recurred. I am tired of rebuilding the same document over and over, and now being unable to open it on the PC where it will be printed from. Must I go back to my older, slower machine to build this document? Or is there something I am missing?

I resolved this myself. The problem turned out to be a file path name error.

  • Best file system for PPC Mac, Intel Mac, and Win 7 PC

I really was nut sure which section to post this in, so this seemed like the best place.  I have a 3TB external hard drive, that I need to read and write to on a G5 running 10.5.8, A MacBook Pro running 10.8.2, and various windows PC's, what is the best file system to use, or better yet, format, depending on what terminology you use, adn I need to transfer large files(larger than the 4GB limit on FAT).  Im willing to try any suggestions.  I would prefer not to use extra software, if it is neccessary though, I can on the mac's but not as easily on the Win PC's.  I would also prefer an app from apple, I seem to have bad luck with third-party software, but if you know of one that works nicely, again, I'm willing to try any suggestions.

Another alternative is a two-partition external drive. All platforms supported without special software on one drive. You could use mnemonic partition names like HFS and EXF for mounted recognition. Think of this as a functional, single-drive, mirrored RAID set (RAID 1). A file copy to each partition (if needed) provides redundant platform interoperabililty and file backup.

  • Intel Mac and Games

I was wondering that, will games run on the macbook pro since it has an intel based processor? like Quake 4 or Doom 3
    Macbook Pro 17" 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo, 1GB DDR2 Ram, 120GB HDD 5400RPM   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   30GB iPod Black

I have a simliar model as you, except I have 2GB of ram. Yes you can run games like Doom 3 and Quake 4. I believe both are available for Mac anyhow. I have played Quake 4 on mine and it runs smooth, though there is some minor clipping problems. But gameplay is right on. Now if you have boot-camp installed you can play PC-based games through windows. I currently have Half-life 2 installed and it looks and plays great, but remember your are playing on a laptop, so unfortantely you won't get the same quality as a desktop but if you overcome that, you will be truely impressed at the power of these laptops.

  • Hotmail httpmail plug in with intel macs and 10.4.8

    Hi!
After a search on this forum and at macosxhints.com, I found this plug in for mail to work with a (very old) Hotmail account.
Does anyone know if it is still working before I install it? There seemed to be some doubt about it.

  • Sharing FCS files betw. Intel Mac and a G5 PowerPC

Does anyone have any experience sharing files between Intel portable MacBook/MacBook Pros and G5 PowerPCs?
Is it possible, and if so, can anyone share their experiences?
I'm asking because a friend wants to barter his PowerPC G5 and 23" monitor to me in exchange for some manhours editing his project, and I was thinking of taking it on as an extra editing FCS station, even though when I bought FCS (in June 2006) I began runnning it on an Intel portable.
Will my FCS discs install on it? And if so, will I be able to share project files between a PowerPC G5 and my portable?
Any anecdotes or dire warnings are greatly appreciated.

thanks very much for the clarification!
"not at the same time"? Not sure I follow. Do you mean a single FCS academic license can run on only two machines simultaneously? Or do I need a new license for each workstation?
What I'd like to do is continue running my copy of FCS1 Academic on my portable, and then install it on an additional machine (either the G5 or a MacBook Pro I'm planning to get next month), and edit between the two.
Again, thanks very much for the input.

  • Booting Intel Mac and PowerPC Mac from same external drive

Seems to be difficult. My previous experience and experiments made me conclude you need a separate firewire drive for each variety of Mac. But
    http://rentzsch.com/tidbits/intelbasedMacBootIncompatibility
does list a method with which this can be done. I hope. Will give it a try. Hopefully this means that down the road this won't really be a question.

  • Intel mac and internet connection

is there anybody else out there who's having problems with connection to the net with there Imac intel? uk preferred:)

    Hi
USB dont work well with macs as you need a driver which get broken everytime the OS gets updated.
Get yourself a ethernet modem/router like a Netgear DG834 http://www.dsl-warehouse.co.uk/product.asp?pr=DG834 or if you need wireless a DG834G http://www.dsl-warehouse.co.uk/product.asp?pr=DG834G no drivers no future problems.
Also its not Apple's fault that speedtouch make driver's that dont work.
