Intel Mini sometimes refuses to wake up
My Energy Saver function is always set at 15 min for both computer and display and the box "put the HD to sleep when possible" is checked. It usually works.
I didn't notice any particular event that could be the cause of this problem. Can you make a guess?

Again - don't worry about the modem - I can't think of a single instance where the ethernet port has been implicated in failure to wake from sleep. (I've been teaching in and maintaining several Mac labs for quite a few years so I have a goodly amount of experience with Mac issues.)
You said in a previous message that the failure to wake from sleep happens rarely. If by 'once in a great while' you mean about once a week - that's a problem you'll want to explore. If you mean it happens once a month - that's closer to an annoyance and you'll want to track it down but, as you noted, it will be very hard to find. If you mean it happens once every couple of months - that is a true annoyance and good luck figuring it out. Depending on your computer habits, that might not be indicative of any particular problem at all.
I can offer a few suggestions. If your mini only has 512MB and you rarely restart your computer you might want to consider restarting your computer on a regular basis. Until this summer I was running a lab the original flat panel iMacs, all with 512MB with Tiger. After upgrading to Tiger I saw several issues develop that all went away when I configured them to shut down Friday evening and restart Monday morning. You said you plug in your various devices as they are needed - if you have enough ports, consider keeping several plugged in at once to help force the failure to wake so it doesn't take as long to diagnose.

Mac Mini repeatedly refuses to wake from sleep
Please to anyone I really need your help.
First let me preface you that I know my console log is incredibly long, and let me know if there is a way to make them more manageable and I will update.
Also let me know which other logs or screen shots or active programs I can provide
I have a 2011 2.5 ghz Mac mini i5 with AMD Radeon 6630M
I have customized this with a 256gb SSD and 2TB HDD as well as 16gb RAM.
I also have a Monoprice drawing tablet attached.
My keyboard and trackpad are bluetooth
I am running yosemite 10.10.1.
10.10 was installed with a clean install.
So here is the issue:
The computer was working perfectly, and then, I can't identify a specific time, it started to just occasionally refuse to wake up from sleep (monitor off, won't activate).
Interestingly it seems to have only started happening AFTER I purchased an apple TV which I use to mirror my screen for video playback. Prior to that I had two mac mini's (one hooked up to TV as a media center and one desktop). This configuration resulted in no freezing issues for a few months.
My parents wanted to get an apple desktop so I ended up giving them my mac mini media center and decided to try using an apple TV mirroring with my mac mini instead.
Now the computer seems to work perfectly fine for a day or two and then it just refuses to wake from sleep.
I do a hard reset and it boots up with no issue and everything works perfectly for a couple days (or less), then it just won't wake from sleep at all.
This can occur when still mirrored to apple TV, but also occurs when it is not.
Background programs tend to be: dropbox, google drive, evernote, flycut, Teamviewer, safari and google chrome
Additionally I have noticed that if the computer has been on for a couple days, when trying got mirror it becomes very choppy.
Activity monitor identifies no CPU or memory hogs. (can post if needed)
The console does seem to show A LOT of issues, but I can't make any sense of them, and I have tried searching google for what they might mean.

My 2010 27" iMac running Yosemite won't wake up from sleep. -
Ok, I'm pretty saavy when it comes to most things computer related but maybe I'm missing something on this one. I bought my Intel mini with the stock 512mb of RAM and decided I wanted to upgrade to 2gb. The price of RAM is fairly steep right now so I decided I would do this one stick at a time. I purchased my 1GB stick to get me going from Crucial (due to their reputation). I used their memory advisor to make sure I was ordering the correct memory for my machine and verified the memory matched what I ordered before it was installed. I installed the 1gb stick with one of the original 256mb sticks thinking I would maximize what I had available until I was able to purchase my second stick. After doing so I had nothing but problems. I kept getting spontaneous shutdowns and when booting up it would reboot itself sometimes 2 or 3 times before I could finally get to the desktop. So, I'm stumped. I've gone through and double checked that the memory was seated right, ran TechTool Pro 4, ran the Apple hardware test, reset my pram, reset my smc and even took out my 256mb stick to see if having an unmatched pair could be the issue. Everything looked fine and all tests passed. According to Crucial's website it is not "necessary" to have a pair of sticks in the mini to run properly. It even says I should be able to run different speeds and chip capacities. I was still getting the same result just the 1gb Crucial stick by itself. I have since put my 2 original 256mb sticks back in and all seems to be well. I know there is a possibility that I got a bad stick of RAM but I definitely have my doubts based on Crucial's reputation. I know how to handle computer components so I also highly doubt that I damaged the RAM. Is there something I'm missing? Do I need to have a matching pair of sticks (size and speed)? I'm racking my brain on this one, hopefully someone will be able to shed some light on my dilemma.
Okay, new problem... I'm starting to think now that maybe my RAM woes were not RAM woes at all. I'm beginning to think that perhaps I have a failing hard drive. Right away after purchasing my Mac mini I took the original 80GB hdd out and replaced it with a brand new 120GB 5400rpm Seagate hdd. I started having these random shutdown problems and then yesterday after having my new 2GB's of RAM installed for about a week or so (and working flawlessly), I got the screen that tells me that I need to hold down the power button to restart my computer. I do so and it goes to this terminal type screen and runs through all kinds of command lines. I restarted and desktop came back up so I did a couple software updates (1 Airport update, 1 Security update). After that finishes the mini restarts and it hangs at the grey screen w/the apple. So, I shut the computer down and restarted and this time it gets to the 'OS X starting up' screen and hangs when the status bar reaches the end. So, I shut it down and restart yet again. It goes on and on like this and finally ends up getting to the desktop after roughly 6 restarts. I quickly back up everything on my computer and try a few more restarts to see the progression of the problem and try to troubleshoot. At one point I heard the hard drive click 2 times. After another round of numerous restarts I get back to the desktop and by this time alot of my programs were getting the beachball when opened and would never function (i.e. - Disk Utility, System Profiler & Safari). I put my Mac mini OS X install disc in and restarted to wipe everything out and see if my OS got messed up somewhere along the way and was causing my problems. As soon as it boots from the disc I got an error box informing me that It cannot install the OS but allows me to access Disk Utility. I erased and did a 1X pass zero out. I restarted my machine and yet again it hanged at the grey screen with the apple. I restarted a couple more times and now it just tells me it can not install the OS and shuts itself down within a few seconds of this message.
So, this is where I'm at now... Can anyone else confirm that this sounds hard drive related vs. RAM related? The only variable that has changed recently has been the RAM and I refuse to believe that I got bad RAM twice in a row from a company as reputable as Crucial.

IPhone no longer can sync with iTunes on Mac Intel Mini
I have an original iPhone (not 3G). It was working fine until today. Today when I booted my mac mini, Software update said that there was an iTunes update. I downloaded and installed version 8.2 of iTunes. When I connected my iPhone to my mac mini (Intel running 10.4.11), which is what I use to sync my iPhone, iTunes didn't see it. It was as if the iPhone wasn't connected to the mac.
I thought maybe it was the cable. So, I switched cables. It still didn't sync (or even see the iPhone).
I have been charging my iPhone using a wall adapter, so I tried both cables with the wall adapter. The iPhone charged just fine using both cables.
I used the cables and tried to sync my iPod Classic (120GB) with iTunes. I can sync my iPod Classic with iTunes just fine with either cable.
I have an 17" Powerbook G4 running 10.5.7 and I thought I'd try to see if it could see the iPhone. The Powerbook is running iTunes 8.1.1, I haven't upgraded it yet. I was able to see the iPhone and I could try to sync, but the iPhone isn't sync'ed with that iTunes library so the sync doesn't do anything, but at least the Powerbook sees the iPhone and connects with it (and iTunes sees the iPhone as well).
I'm upgrading to iTunes 8.2 to see if the Powerbook can still see the iPhone (just seeing if it was the iTunes upgrade that broke the iPhone sync). Well, the upgrade on the powerbook didn't seem to hurt its ability to see the iPhone.
I'm back at square one. My mac Intel mini running 10.4.11 can't see my iPhone and nothing I do seems to help it see the iPhone, but I can sync my ipod classic using the same cable.
I'm now wondering if there is something wrong with the iPhone. Has anyone else seen this problem?Sometimes a glitch can happen with an itunes upgrade that can cause itunes to no longer recognize your iphone. If you have already tried to restart your computer and tried different usb ports, I would try this:

Intel Mini has problem with Mail/internet after firmware update (0.1)
Hello there.
I'm not sure, but I think my Intel Mini has gone bonkers after a firmware update (Mac mini-SMC-firmware-updater (1.0)
What happend is, that connecting to (both of) my two Gmail and Tiscali accounts is not working anymore. (no connection through gate 995)
I did not change anything in the accountsetup.
But now I notice that even my torrents (oops) can't connect anymore.
I think this all took place after the firmware update.
On Dutch sites I do not seem to get any useable answers, so I thought it be wise to go a bit more international.
Could anyone help me out on this one?

Having the same problem here. After updating the firmware the wireless connection to the network is unstable. After rebooting the laptop most of the time I get "Low or no connectivity" message. Sometimes it connects and dies after a few minutes. And sometimes it connects and stays connected until shut down.
What do you mean by "u have to reset it for 30 seconds and then reconfigure it"? Do you mean you actually have to reset the router to default settings and reconfigure, or just power down and bring it back up?

Waking Intel Mini shifts desktop image 2 inches to the left
Been using a G4 Mini for 2 years with my 27" HD-LCD-TV with no problems. Just bought an Intel Mini and now when I wake the Mini from sleep or switch from full screen mode, the desktop shifts 2 inches to the left. Repositioning the display using the TV configurations does not help. The Apple & Application Menus disappear off the edge. I have to reboot to return it to normal.
Any advice?

Intel Mini 2 GB RAM 1.83 GHz Mac OS X (10.4.7) Westinghouse LTV-27w6 HD 27" LCD-TVI've a similar problem with the display when the mac mini wakes up, an inch of the left disappers. The setting is 1360x768 (60Hz) but after waking up, the TV detects as 1280x768 (60Hz). Hence, I suspect the problem is either the DVI cable or the mac.
It was fine when I connected with a VGA cable. This phenomenon occurs after I got a DVI cable. With the DVI cable, the image quality visibly improved but with this annoying disapperance of 80 columns of pixels.
I've been searching on the internet for a solution for some time but yet to find any.

Intel Mini mysterious missing RAM?
Been pulling my hair out over this. Thankfully I don't have much left to pull out. I purchased my Intel 1.66Mhz Mini with 2GB of Apple factory ram installed direct from the Apple Store web site. It's been working fine for a year and a half. Recently I noticed a slight slowdown (more beach balls, very slow with Paralllels, etc). Took a look at profiler and low and behold it's only showing 1GB of ram now! Slot 0 has 1GB, and slot 1 has none.
I'm a DIY kind of person so I opened the Mini up and swapped the memory sticks around from slot 0 to 1, 1 to 0 etc. Same issue. Seems like both sticks work in slot 0 but not in slot 1. Tried to boot with only one stick in slot 1 and the Mini refused to power up. Re seated ram many times. Slot 1 looks perfect. Looked at both sides of MB near slot 1 and nothing.
Any ideas here? Bad MB slot? 10.4.10 Update?
Thanks for your help....There have been reports previously of similar memory behavior in some Intel minis, most of which were resolved by swapping RAM modules for new ones. Since your mini came with this memory from Apple, that's not really possible since you don't have a lifetime warranty as you would with memory from such suppliers as crucial.com.
Have you tried to reset the SMC? This is the device that controls system components so a reset might be helpful:
To reset the SMC on an Intel mini:
-From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the power button until it turns off).
-Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord and any display cables.
-Wait at least 15 seconds.
-Plug the power cord back in, making sure the power button is not being pressed at the time.
-Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.
-Press the power button on the back to start up your computer. -
Intel mini internal bluetooth fault
Over the last several months, my mini finds less & less devices, & now won't find any. I borrowed a friend's bluetooth dongle which finds thing just fine.
I've done a scan with "usbprober" & found this:

Does this refer to the internal bluetooth?
Just in case it was a rogue extension, QT component etc., I've installed Tiger on an external firewire drive so that nothing unusual is loaded, & a scan shows the same message.
So, can I somehow "wake up" the internal bluetooth, or, assuming it's faulty, will it come under Apple's "diy" replacement (I'm thinking of upgrading ram to 2Gb, as the 512M is totally inadequate so the case would be open anyway) or any other suggestions please?

That's because the AirPort utilities only work with AirPort base stations, not the AirPort Extreme or the original AirPort cards.

Helix sometimes won't wake from sleep
Sometimes my Helix refuses to wake up from sleep. The led on the tablet portion continues to blink even as I furiously press the power button. In contrast, the led on the base (if the tablet is docked) becomes solid red, as if the computer is on. It happens to me once a day on average, which is a pain. The only solution has been to hold the power button down until the helix shuts off. Has this happened to anyone else?

There are actually multiple reasons why sleep would stop working properly. We'll just have to go down the list and try to isolate the culprit. If you are comfortable working in command line, run these commands to check the system settings and events for sleep.
powercfg -a
powercfg -getactivescheme
powercfg lastwake
powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
If you're sure you have all the latest MS updates and lenovo resources, skip the next.
There is a MS KB (released in June 2013) that deals with a specific issue where a special file ($ Secure) becomes corrupted due to a failed write operation in the ($ Secure) file. This, however, is a very specific instance and would require a system restore.

Are there any USB device is connected to the Helix during wake? There may be a conflict with some devices.
Have there been any changes to the power management for HID devices (updated drivers, etc.) -- check these in device manager.
Is there a software on startup that is preventing sleep to wake? You can use msconfig to disable unnecessary startup programs.

How can I get a reliable airport connection on my Intel Mini?
I have an Intel mini and I connect it to the internet through airport. When it is working, it shows all the bars as dark, which I assume means I have a good signal. But some times it does not connect on startup, and can't be persuaded to connect with anything I have tried, using the network control panel or whatever. It just does not work. Some times it will work if I shut it down and start it up again, some times not. I also have a G3 Imac using a Hawking USB adapter on the same network, and it is solidly reliable, so that makes me think the problem is in the mini, not the router. It started doing this a few weeks ago, and the problem may have something to do with one of the many software upgrades, for all I know. This discussion thing is really difficult to use, so I hope I can find this question again, and maybe even a good answer.

My iMac 24" late 2006 refuses to wake from deep sleep,
My iMac is refusing to wake from deep sleep or from a shutdown, will start if I persist in either using safe mode or command mode (cmd + s)but can take many attempts, have repaired permissions and verified disk, on permissions it is constantly changing the permissions on preference panes as listed below, but this is a shortened view, there are 23 lines like this.
permissions differ on "SystemLibrary/PreferencePanes/Displays.prefPane/Contents/Resources/sk.lproj/Di splaysPref.nib" should be drwxr-xr-x they are -rw-r- -r- -
Would it be ok to trash the Preference Pane folder and let it rebuild ???

To remove Prefpanes, right click on one & nchoose Remove.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

Non-firewire MacBook via USB to Intel Mini as External Hard Drive
I'm working with the aluminum MacBook that doesn't have a firewire and a Core 2 Duo Intel Mini. Is it possible to connect the Mini to the MacBook via USB and have the Mini act as an external hard drive for the MacBook?
If so is it possible as well to do it the other way around; the Mini as the boot drive and the MacBook as the external hard drive?

I really think there is no way to connect a computer in target mode to the Unibody Macbook which has no Firewire port.
I did the stupid thing to plug a USB2toUSB2 cable into a brand new Macbook and it fried the USB port (which are soldered on the motherboard) thereby loosing my computer.
I still don't know IF I made a mistake or IF the cable was the culprit.

Intel Mini: Diabling the onboard bluetooth hardware/using a Dlink USB BT
I have a Intel Mini Core 2 Duo (1.8x Ghz)
I broke the bluetooth antennae connector inside the case while upgrading the memory. My BT keyboard and mouse continues to work, but only with the case open, and when they are very close to the computer.
I have located a replacment bluetooth board, but before I spent any mulah to fix the problem, I am wondering if it would be possible to just use a Dlink BT 120 USB device that I already own.
From what I can tell this particular device is one of a few that will specifically work with Macs. In reading it sounds like it should work without any needed drivers.
I am relatively new to Macs, so the process for getting things working is a little fuzzy. I've tried to google this, but haven't found any specific help.
When I plug in the Dlink, the connection to the onboard BT stops working with the existing keyboard and mouse. There is not any obvious signs that the Dlink is doing anything (no windows pop up to state it is connected etc, and there is not anything new listed in the BT sys pref pane). It seems to me that the two BT devices are fighting with each other, and I don't know how to make them play nice.
I did download the apple BT firmware updater, which I believe is needed to convert the Dlink over to a mac friendly firmware. I ran the updater with the Dlink plugged in, and it seemed to run fine, but I guess I wouldn't know which BT device it was trying to update...
Anyway, if there is a guru out there that can help me get the Dlink working... I am all ears.

How much of a drastic or slight change will there be. If someone could just predict the spec's of the new intell's then I might just wait.. I don't want to get a product now that will be considerably outdated in about 5months now.. Will there be a big graphic power increase, processor power increase or what? Also, do you think that Apple will still have the Intel Mini's be at a great price? Will Intel Mini's be 500-700 USD's like the older PowerPC ones?
