Intel network card

Hi all,
After few days struggling with laptop install for solaris 8, at the end of the day, I successfully run solaris 8 on my laptop. I got my built-in network card to work and graphic card to run at best resolution.
One thing I'm not quite sure is error message that I received after few hours doing network stuff. The error msg as below :
"WARNING: iprb0: statistics generatefailed."
"WARNING: iprb: device never responded."
I tried to bring down the interface and up again but no luck. The only solution is to restart my laptop which is bad. I already applied latest patch for iprb. Anybody could shed some light on this case, please?
Thank in advance.
regards,
zonex

The network card can go bad yes. Here is what i would recommand you do is call tech support and get a case number and send it in for repair also get a shipping address so you can send the thinkpad  with the bad network card in for repairs
Thanks
Keep me posted on this.

  • Installing Intel Network Card

    Hi all,
How do I install an Intel Network card into a solaris 9 x86 platform?
    Thank

First of all, I do not see the nic when I run the command prtconf -v | grep pci8086That's possible, because you may have got an oem version of the intel hardware, and the vendor ID from
someone else (let's say Compaq / HP, or Toshiba, or ... -- and not Intel) appears in the device's name.
Have a look at the "prtconf -pv" output, search for devices with a "class-code" of "00020000" (= PCI Ethernet
controller). The vendor-id/device-id pair of that entry should identify it as an intel gigabit nic. At this time,
Solaris 10 x86 (b63) supports lots of variants of the intel gbit hardware:
    # grep e1000g /etc/driver_aliases
    e1000g "pci8086,1000"
    e1000g "pci8086,1001"

Where seems to be the problem ?
Any good resource on solaris unix networking website as well ?

    Hi
This is message indicating that your network is not finding the route to
the 10.0.0.5. Since its looking from 127.... it probably means that you
have not setup the networking properly.
    Check the output of

  • Device failed to start - Code 10 - Intel Wireless Card on NB550D

    Hi everyone,
    It's just a normal Toshiba NB550D netbook
The only thing that I change is the Wireless Card inside it: the original is a common Atheros half mini card. Recently I have the urge to use internet in 5 ghz (frequency).
Thus, I decide to replace the old one with the *half mini card Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN*
It doesn't turn out so well. The driver is not recognised or more precisely the windows tries to install the driver but FAIL is reported. Device manager tool shows an "!" next to the network card and when I go the its properties at general tab: "*The device failed to start - Code 10*"
I tried many ways to uninstall the driver and reinstall again ; also tried to download drivers from toshiba website for intel network card.
Nothing works so far and yeah I just don't know what to do now.
The possibility that the intel card is broken or malfunctioned is eliminated because I checked that with another laptop already and it just worked like a charm.
Please help me solve this problem. I really need to use dual band (2.4 and 5 ghz) internet.
    Appreciate any help!!

    >The possibility that the intel card is broken or malfunctioned is eliminated because I checked that with another laptop already and it just worked like a charm
    Regarding the error code 10:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943104/en-us
+The Code 10 error pertains mainly to hardware and device driver issues or to compatibility issues between hardware drivers and additional software that is installed in Windows.+
I dont think its Wlan card issue it could be a compatibility problem between the BIOS and the WLan card.
Not all devices are supported by BIOS.
But at the other hand the WLan card appears already in device manager and therefore I think there should not be a BIOS compatibility issue.
Did you check if chipset would handle the Wlan card properly?

  • Network card: e1000g (Intel PRO/1000 MT) did not working properly

    Hi to everyone!
    I'm having some strange trouble.
All computers attached to one DLink gigabit switch
    Server #1:
nf4-based motherboard, Intel PRO/1000 MT net card, onboard net card (forcedeth driver used) Ubuntu Linux 2.6.25 kernel version.
    All just working.
    Server #2:
nf6-based motherboard, same Intel net card, SunOS 5.11 snv_86.
    All just working.
    Server #3:
Same as server's #1 nf4-based motherboard. Same onboard card. Same SunOS 5.11 snv_86 as server #2 have installed.
    Its work. BUT..
Intel card is not working as expected.
It is seen by system. It is properly up and running. It is sending packent and receiving packets. Ierrs=Oerrs=Collis=Queue=0.
But thru e1000g0 interface no one computer can reach this one, and from server #3 no one computer is seen thru e1000g0. Exept...
Except two old Sunray1 devices (attached to the same switch for testing purposes)! But even these devices seen only by arp requests, and is not pingable.
It is some mistery, but if I turn on jubmo frames, these rays got a picture from SRSS, testing on this sevrer! Not for long, heh, they hung up fast, but this is proof a physical connection :)
So, I can not disable onboard network card on Server #3 - server becoming unreachable :(
I know, those network cards must work on Solaris - as they did it on server #2. I know, those network cards work with my nf4-based motherboards - as they did it on server #1.
But I can't uderstand, whait is going on with e1000g driver on server #3!
P.S. Kernel driver e1000g settings are the same. All difference from servers #2 and #3 is: #2 had Intel netcard installed then Solaris was setting up, and #3 had Intel netcard installed later. All netcards are working (I trying to swap them from one computer to another - did not change anything).

*) #3 thinks it is sending, but a NIC/driver error prevents it.NIC is fully health. It is tested on another PC. Driver error - or driver's bad implementation - is the one I'm thinking.
*) #3 has a bad transmit pair of wires (would affect all communication)This patchcord works w/o problems on other PCs and even on onboard NIC of server #3.
    *) Network problemsHeh :)
*) Firewall or other device is dropping the ARP repliesIt is some very stealthy and very selective firewall, affecting only external NICs :)
BTW, then cord is attached to NIC, it sends "who has this IP" requests, asking to be shure there will not be an IP conflict. No one seen this requests.
*) #1 has a NIC/driver error preventing it from seeing the reply.Only for send from #3? It is like a firewall on #3 :) And, there is more PCs, not only #1-#3. No one can see #3's replays (or asks), not only #1..
I'm repeating: this PC works in network now on onboard NIC w/o problems. But onboard NIC is only 100 Mb/s, and we need 1 Gb/s.
I was thinking, Solaris took wrong MAC for NICs - but not, ifconfig shows the same MACs as marked on NICs.
Even more, yesterday i plumbed e1000g1 - second Intel NIC in server #3. And I was surprised - it worked perfectly!
But I make "touch /reconfigure; init 6" - and after reboot, no one of two Intel NICs working again :( They both have the same behavior - no one can see packets they sends.)
I even try to restrict connection on 100 Mb/s by driver's .conf modify - it works, link become yellow instead of green (take a note, NIC is able to "speak" properly with switch!), but all other stay the same.
Strange, really strange behavior. More strange is a fact this NICs work on another instance of same SunOS, but on different motherboard, while the same MB with same NIC is working w/o problems under Ubuntu. Looks like some bug in Solaris driver.

  • Installing network card in solaris 7 intel version

    hai,
i installed solaris 7 in a intel platform. but the network card is not getting recoganised. the card is Compex Readlink RL2000 pci card. how i will configure it. please help me.
    shibin

If the card is not recognized, then it's probably unsupported by solaris.
Either you can get a solaris 7 driver from the card's vendor, or you
get a new nic that is support under solaris 7.

  • Unauthorized network card is plugged in - Intel 7260 Wireless-AC PCI card

I tried to replace the wireless card (Intel(R) Centrino(R) Ultimate-N 6300 AGN) in my ThinkPad W530 with Intel Wireless 7260-AC card.
I got the following error message during start up:
Unauthorized network card is plugged in 8086/08B1/8086/4070
The intel wireless 7260-AC should be used by new thinkpad W model such as W540.
Is there anyone know how I can resolve this problem?
    Thanks a lot!

  • Alternative to Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN wireless network card?

I'm finding that my Intel 5100 AGN wireless network card is not performing as well as it used to.  I've tried everything... even drivers are fully up to date.  But I keep losing connection to my wireless router, even though connection strength is between 3-4 bars.  I find that I rarely get dropped if I have 5 bars.  But if it weakens to 3, I get periodically dropped no matter what wireless network I am using.
I want to replace this card with something better, but of course compatible with the HP dv5 (my specific model is dv5t-1000).  Any recommendations?

    Hi, Gary:
What I meant by my statement regarding you having the better of the available cards for your notebook is that, yes, I am sure the Intel 5300 is an improvement over the 5100, but the problem is you can't install the 5300 in your notebook.
The Intel 5300 is not supported (only the cards/part numbers listed in the service manual can be installed) and your notebook wouldn't boot until you removed the card.
You can try a different card listed in the manual if you want.
However, you are limited to the:
    Broadcom 4322 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN module
Broadcom BCM4312 802.11b/g WLAN module (not a wireless N card)
I suppose you can use an external USB adapter but I would get one with an external antenna connected to it, because I would have to believe the 3 antenna wire setup in your notebook has to provide superior reception over a plain USB wireless adapter with an internal antenna as its only antenna.
The antennas go all the way up to the top of your screen.
Did you fiddle around with your network card's advanced settings?  They can be found by clicking on the card in the device manager, clicking on the advanced tab.  make a note of where the settings are now so if something goes buggy, you can change them back.
Here is a guide to the advanced settings you have and the recommended settings for them.

  • How do I find out what network 'card' is in my DV6700?

There are umpteen numbers of various DV6700's...the only model number I show on mine is DV6700....yet, the driver info does not list a wired driver..only wireless.  I need the 'car' manufacturer and the driver for windows XP.  How and where do I get this information?  (My hard drive failed and I had to install Windows XP Pro, cold, from a Microsoft CD and it did not have any laptop drivers that were recognized by my laptop.)
    Thanks in advance

Really there are only 2 versions, Intel and AMD. If you have AMD the network card is driven by the chipset driver for the nVidia chipset which you can get for Windows XP:
Everything you need is explained here:

  • A question about Routers and network cards

I have a question, Can Hardware confict with internet speed problems with the routers like one having a gigabit etherenet network card and 1/100 intel etherent card?

Ethernet components are generally compatible across brand names, and speeds.  So you can connect gigabit cards to 10/100 networks.  You can connect 10/100 cards to gigabit networks.
When you mix speeds, you will be limited to the fastest speed that all components can do, so if you connect a gigabit card to a 10/100 network, you will be limited to a 100 Mbps connection.

  • Problems with SRW224G4 switch and Bridged Network Cards

    Hello,
We have recently installed a SRW224G4 switch and have discovered that when we plug our DELL PowerEdge 2900 server into the switch, the switch loses all network connectivity and all of the LED's on the switch start flashing.
The server works perfectly well plugged into another switch, but as soon as we introduce the SRW224G4 into the network, either with the server plugged into that switch or any other, the problem re-occurs.
The only way we found we could eliminate this issue was if we disabled the Bridged Network connection on the two network cards on the server. If we do that, everything is fine, except the network performance of the server has dropped significantly.
The server is plugged into the 1GB ports on the switch, although we tried it on the 100MB ports and received the same problems. The switch reports that the ports are running at full-duplex.
Has anyone noticed this behavior before, and more importantly been able to rectify it.
Thanks in advance for your assistance,
    Paul

I had this problem as well with any Linksys 2024 or rackmountable switch..  The trick is, you need to use the network cards management software to "team" or bridged the 2 NIC's otherwise the switch detects a loop and the whole thing locks up. So lame...  Windows built in bridge mode stinks dont use it.  When you use the Intel management software or Dell or HP's NIc management software you have the option to actually choose "redundant mode" where you can pick a Nic to be the primary, or you can choose Load Balancing where you can essentially double your throughput by joining the 2 nics.
In Windows 2008 Server, you actually do this by going to the Properties on the NIC in  Device Manger.  the software controls are now built right into the driver.  pretty neat.  2003 you can check Device Manager the same way but not sure if it's the same as 2008, you might need to run the actual NIC management app.
    Hope this helps

  • How to configure Netgear FA510C Network Card

I installed Solaris 8 (Intel) on my laptop(Compaq Presario
1275) and have NetGear FA510C network card to be
configured. When I installed Solaris, it didn't recognize
the network card, and I have no idea how to configure
this network card. Does any have any idea how to
install and configure this network card?
    I'll appreciate your help.
    cwpak

Try to use devfsadm -v to find the device
Then use ifconfig dnet0 (not positive this is the right syntax for SMC) to plumb the device.
Then use ifconfig dnet0 192.168.50.4 up
You may have to modify these files to get the IP to come up on startup and properly resolve:
    /etc/hostname.dnet0
    /etc/netmasks
    /etc/resolv.conf
    /etc/defaultrouter
    /etc/nodename

  • Difficulty getting my network card to work.

    Hey there,
I recently converted to arch after the recent kernel update and currently love it. However, even though my network card should be supported, I'm having trouble connecting to any network, whether it be from ethernet or wireless.
I was able to connect to a network through ethernet during the install but not anymore.
I'm rocking a MSI GP60 2PE Leopard using the most up to date version of arch.

Welcome to the forums.  Please use code tags when posting command output - and see the stickied threads in this subforum and the forum etiquette guide on the wiki.
Your ethernet cards is found by `lspci` and `ip link` - all seems in order there so far.  What have you done to try to connect?  The simplest test would be the following:
    sudo dhcpcd enp3s0
If that works, then all is well and good, see the wiki on how to get connected automatically at start up.  If the above command fails, please post the error messages it provides.
For wireless, lspci doesn't even show any wireless hardware - perhaps it is a usb interface for the wireless, what is the output of the following:
    dmesg | grep usbcore
