Intel Pentium D 925+ on MSI 975X Platinum v1, won't install Vista

I have this 2 components - Intel Pentium D 925+ on MSI 975X Platinum v1 - and a licenced Vista Ultimate won't install with them. I had first an Intel Pentium 4 640 and worked great. Than I've changed the CPU to Intel Pentium D 925+. When I first boot in Vista it hanged the system during the green bar sliding. Changed to XP, worked just fine. Tried again to install Vista, after booting from DVD and loading the files needed, the green bar goes again and after 2-3 passes it hanged again. I found that there is the latest bios available 1.4 and made an bios update... Then I retried to install vista.. It worked just fine... Decompressed the files, copied them onto hard drive, and after the first restart , when the screen appears again on installing and says "Completeing installation ..." it hangs again. I just can't pass this phase no matter what I do and tried to install about... 30 times, every install being a clean install, formatting the hard drive. Every single time it hangs just there. Can anyone tell me what is wrong?

I've found the problem if anyone is interesting in knowing it and if maybe someone is having the same problem as me.... just disable EIST (Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology) from bios and it will work smooth. Oh PS, and if Vista isn't ment for public use then why was it released by Microsoft in so many versions even a home version? Do you even know what you're saying with that affirmation? Or you're just a end user that is just too lasy to try understanding Vista or even learning where these operating systems are going to? Saying that if it works just fine on XP why should I install Vista...???????

Problem with MSI 975x Platinum based new build

I am having what looks like a familiar issue with setting up a new build PC. Spec is as follows:
MSI 975x Platinum edition MOBO
Intel Core Duo 2 e6600 CPU
Western Digital Raptor 150GB S150 16mb 10000rpm SATA drive
Corsair Memory TWIN2X2048-6400 2x1GB 240-Pin DIMM XMS2-6400 CL5
SONY DVD-RW
The problem comes when trying to install Windows XP on the single SATA drive (I don't want a RAID array - mainly as I only have 1 hard drive!).
I press F6 as instructed to install the SATA drive - I have created a disk with the necessary driver files from the MSI website.
Based on other posts I have seen I have put all the files except "txtsetup.oem" in another folder on the floppy (either "\win_XP" or "\winXP"). However I still get the same error message:
"file \x32\jraid.sys caused an unexpected error (18) at line 2108 in d:\xpspl\base\boot\setup\oemdisk.c"
I am beginning to think I can't install XP to a SATA drive. Can anyone help with this? Is there an "official" driver floppy disk I can get from MSI in exactly the right format?
Alternatively is it worthwhile buying a small standard IDE drive and installing XP to that to get me going and then install the SATA drive once XP is going? Would it then be possible to shift XP onto the faster SATA drive?

if you using 1 sata drive you dont set it up as a raid , in the sata options set it up as ide enhanced also in this mode no need for pressing f6 just make sure that the sata is set to 1st boot hdd , if you using 1 sata and 1 ide hdd and tring to isntall on the sata disconnect the ide hdd because it will mess with your drive letters in windows ... if you goin raid ( achi mode is only for sata 2 drives with NCQ = native command queing and your drives have to support this mode ) then in the sata drives portion set it to raid ( achi if your drives support it ) in the force part set it to force gen 1 ( for sata 1 drives ) force gen 2 ( for sata 2 drives ) then you will need to set up the raid config in the intel raid config ( its the next post screen telling you press CTRL+I ) set it up reboot reneter bios set hdd priority to intel raid 0 then intsall windows but press f6 ... yes i ran it 2 ways single sata drive and now raided 80's in raid 0 ( i dont have NCQ support yet )

A few questions about Memory and Power Supply for MSI 975X Platinum Powerup Edit

Bought this Motherboard: MSI 975X Platinum Powerup Edition
975X Platinum V.2(7246-020)
I have a P4 CPU HT in it with 2 512mb sticks of DDR2 memory (533mhz).
I am upgrading to a Core 2 Duo 6600 CPU which has a 1066mhz FSB
What memory speed should I purchase to achieve the fastest bus speed without overclocking???
I get confused as my current memory is 533 which I guess on a Pentium 4 with HT cuts the FSB speed in 1/2 to 266mhz.
Any recommendations?
Do I need to buy Dual Channel or can I just buy 2 sticks?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm not an expert and by budget does not permit me from making any mistakes.
The case fans create the most noise. When they are all on "low" I an hardly hear them and have to shake the mouse to see if it's on, but on medium it sounds like a "standard" computer. Not terrible, but not quite. On high they are down-right loud.

MSI 975X PLATINUM POWER UP EDITION

i just bought the msi 975x platinum power up edition in new york, from a store that was going out of business, but i am having problems because this does not power on.
i am using brand new and tested functioning: thermaltake tr2 430w psu, intel core 2 duo 2.66GHz fsb 1066, and also tried a celeron d 2.66GHz fsb 533, 1x corsair 1gb stick 800 mhz, nvidia 7 series pci express vga card, connected to a test ctr monitor AOC 5en.
i connected the 24 pin atx main connector, the 8 pin connector that powers on the cpu and also the peripheral connector that powers the pci express, and all i got was the heatsink fan spinning, but nothing appears on my screen (all is black).
i hope somebody can help me, because now the store where i bought it has closed, and i dont know how to get a warranty from MSI since i dont understand their RMA policy.

I am not sure that I understood what you mean, but it is nothing unusual that an older board/chipset will not support the latest processor models. And this has nothing to do with the board manufacturer.

What is so hard about digging up a supported processor? I mean, all you have to do is to decide which model you want to get (an E6600 would be a great choice for this board) and then buy it. You will probably be able to get a great deal on a used one on E-Bay.

PCI 2.0 Express and MSI 975X Platinum-PE

Just wondering if my MSI 975X Platinum-PE SKT775 motherboard will take the ATI 4800 series graphics cards which require a pci-express 2.0 slot or not. Or am I confined to looking for the old 1.0 series ones instead. Any guidance would be appreciatied.

It should work alright.
The only "older chipsets" that have problems, to my knowledge, with PCIe 2.0 vga cards are VIA and SIS chipsets.
Yours is Intel and the 48xx should work on that board.

MSI 975X Platinum POE and 6-pin power connection

Hi,
I have seen a number of topics somewhat related to my problem, but I am still unsure.
I have an MSI 975X Platinum PowerUp Edition main board, and I recently bought a NorthQ 4775-500S power supply to replace my current Hiper HPU-4M580. A good PSU, but too noisy for my taste.
Anyway, when installing the NorthQ PSU, I noticed that it has a 6-pin connector, I think it is a PCI-e connector. The main board, however, has an 8-pin connector, called JPW in the manual:
"The JPW 12V power connector is used to provide power to the CPU"
The 6-pin plug from the PSU seems to fit nicely in the 8-pin connector. After reading some other posts, I started to remember that 4 pins of the JPW connector were indeed blocked by a removable plastic chip, which I did remove to make room for the 8-pin plug from my previous PSU.
So, I think I can use the 6-pin plug in the 8-pin socket, but I want to ask you guys first; Will this be correct and safe, or should I get a 6-pin to 8-pin adapter, or even a 6-pin to 4-pin adapter?

If your PSU don't have 8pin power cable for the CPU, use the 4pin power cable instead:
But do NOT connect PCI-E power cable(6 pin) in CPU power socket.

Usb wiring help....... MSI 975X Platinum Power Up

I have spent all sunday building my lovely new PC using the MSI 975x platinum powerup motherboard (sorry love ), its up and running but I need advice on how to attach the existing wires that run from my case's front usb slots to the JUSB connectors on the mobo.
The wires from the front of my case are as follows
1) "1 GND (black)"
2) "2 GND (orange)"
3) "3 GND (dark grey/black)"
4) " 1 VCC (red)"
5) " 2 VCC (Brown)"
6) "1.D+ (green)"
7) "2.D+ (blue)"
8) "1.D- (white)"
9) "2.D- (yellow)" .....................can anyone help please........... ps I'm a wiring numpty

It's not that hard, though it's always a problem that the names are different on the pin-layout of the board and the wires from a case... But still, not hard.
If you have your board's manual, you'll find:
1VCC
2. VCC
3. USB0-
4. USB1-
5. USB0+
6. USB1+
7. GND
8. GND
9. key (no pin)
10 USBOC
Now, it's pretty clear what goes where ... just leave the third ground for what it is. I think it should not be connected. That leaves pin 10 empty. I'm nor 100% sure, but just try it.

I was wondering how strong/heavy powersupply i need to get my system stable and running smootly when i use an Msi 975x platinum pu edition & Gainward 7950gx2??

Depends on what else you are putting in your system. hard drives, optical drives, sound, etc.? A good 550-650 watt PS should do pretty good. I am partial to Antec power supplies myself but there are many other good manufactures out there and also some bad ones.

First, I dont know if there is any fix to make OCZ platinum 800 ram to get pass 370 fsb stable - memory does not perform 1:1 @ 400fsb. On the other hand Gold kit performes well at 1:1 400. Question: is it OCZ or MSI ?

This is what i have so far , performs extreamly well. What other setting have i missed? Can i improve my overclock, and pass 400 fsb ?
My goal is to reach 3.0 ghz or optimal overclock that is stable. I run a bit behind 6800X in Sandra Bench, but ill beat it when the right clock is reached.
Please post your suggestions, whats the ultimate BIOS OVERCLOCKING setting for this mobo to pass 400. Lets make this simple so all users willl have a great overclokc with all info right here.

What works for might not work for someone else. Without putting your system specs in your signature you are not helping anyone. Your memory needs 2.1V (what brand/make?), mine (listed in my sig.) only needed 1.9V. The topic starter says he has 1.4V for Vcore, I set mine to 1.21V and the CPU runs much cooler now. Every rig will be set up differently because of the different components. Don't assume that what works for you will work for someone else.

MSI 975X PROBLEM WITH INSTALLATION ON WINDOWS VISTA

I have MB MSI-975X PLATINUM v.1 withbios ver 1.3,processor Pentium D940 (3,2GHz/800/2x2MB),2X512MB DDR-2 667MHz,in the beginning when I start the installation on WINDOWS VISTA the computer is bloked od it is restart.This problem I solved when I put another processor INTEL 541(3,2GHz/800/1MB) whit this processor everthing is ok,but with INTEL 940 it can not be install WINDOWS VISTA .

Beta 2 is real, slow and you have alot of updates to DL, but both are pre-release products and will not work 100%.
Even when Vista is released, they will still be alot of hardware that will not work 100% and this is purely because software is always playing catch up to hardware.
It was only September, when Nvidia released some Beta2/RC1 drivers that worked properly........

i have an ati radeon 1950xtx in my first pcie slot and the arc 1220 (sata raid)in the second pcie slot.
i dont see the card in bootup, already installed bios 7.7
tried the card in an other sytem works fine
also installed the latest firmware on the arc-1220 card
anyone have an idea which bios i should try

I know Intel boards are picky with RAID controller cards. If the Intel RAID is enabled then a lot of add-on cards won't work. Also, even with Intel RAID disabled some still won't work. I had to flash my SiI 3132 RAID card to non-RAID for it to work as a boot device.
I've had my system not even post at all when both RAIDS are enabled. But if I get a post and it boots from the Intel side, it always sees the add-on RAID card.
Also, do you have the latest BIOS? Hopefully that will fix the issue.
Myself, I have the ARC-1210 controller and have NOT had any issues on my 975, 965, P35, or X38 boards. However, only the X38 board has allowed my card to run at full speed. The other chipsets run the 2nd PCIe X16 slot at only X4. It seems it's too slow for the controller to work properly, or there is some issues still. But my X38 boards run great. I get over 300MB/s with my 4 x 150MB Raptors in RAID0.

MSI 975X Platinum PUE RAM Compability

I'm sorry if this has already been posted, but I couldn't seem to find anything.
Right now I'm using a matched pair (2x1 GB) of Kingston Value RAM PC5300, and they pretty good for the price.
But these RAM, (and no, they're not ment for OCing, I know ) don't let me OC one single Mhz above FSB 333, so I would like to buy some faster RAM. But unfortunately I don't have a lot of money to spend.
I've found a matched pair (2x1 GB) of Corsair XMS 2 PC6400 RAM, that are quite cheap. Are the XMS 2 RAM compatible with my MSI i975X Platinum Power Up Edition mother board, or should I look elsewhere?

All G.Skill 6400 ram seems to work a treat in this board. I changed my Geil for 2GB of G.Skill 6400-pk (4.4.4.12). I can now hit 400fsb and no longer have any restart ( warm boot issues). It was also cheap.
They also do cas 5 sets too which are even cheaper.
Can't recommend this ram enough with this board.

MSI P965 Platinum, system won't boot only when ICH8R is in RAID

So I couldn't get my system to boot properly when I have the ICH8R in RAID 1 mode.
I have the boot drive on a single, non-raid Wester Digital 250gb Cavair HD on the ICH8R.
Installed XP Pro SP2 with the ICH8R in IDE mode. I installed in IDE mode beceause I was unable to install XP on my single drive when ICH8R was in RAID mode. I installed XP in IDE mode, did all driver updates, then put the ICH8R into RAID 1 mode for my other data drives and the system will post, start to boot and get to the Windows XP boot screen then the system just restarts before the boot completes. It does it in normal boot mode and safe mode as well.
With the ICH8R in IDE mode everything boots/runs fine.
The problem is, I need the 6 SATA RAID controllers on the ICH8R as I have 3 RAID1 arrays.
I've done all the updates to windows, motherboard bios, Highpoint RocketRaid bios update, tried every mode on the ICH8R, unplugged the Highpoint Rocket Raid, left it plugged in with no drives plugged in, disabled the Jmicron controller, everything I can think of.
Any help would be appreciated.
I did not do the windows floppy driver install for the ICH8R when I installed XP, but I have not had to do that in the past with the ICH7 on my old motherboard so I assumed I wouldn't here as I've been told it's just if you are installing windows on a RAID.

The problem that you are having has nothing to do with your mainboard.
Once you decide to install Windows XP SP2 when the ICH8R controller is in IDE mode, Windows will give you a bluescreen once you switch to RAID mode after the installation is done because it is to stupid to change to the proper driver. Consider this as normal behaviour.
You have basically three possibilities:
1. Reinstall XP with integrated SP2 and integrate the Intel ICH8R RAID drivers using a floppy disk
The latest drivers can be found here.
As I understand, you have already tried that. I if you don't feel like trying this again, have a look at this:
2. Slipstream Intel ICH8R SATA RAID drivers using NLITE or XP ISO BUILDER and try to install again with a self-made install CD that already includes the proper drivers (no floppy needed)
Use google to find one of the tools I mentioned. The procedure is free, perfectly legal and easy to do. Guides for this can be found all over the internet
3. Switching to RAID mode without having to re-install Windows XP
If you are still using your existing installation, that was done when the controller was in IDE mode, the follwing trick may work for you.
I posted a little guide on how to switch from IDE to AHCI mode without having to re-install XP. Have a look at the guide. The procedure is essentially the same for RAID. The only difference is the content of the REG-File that you have to make.

The procedure works perfectly well in most cases (but not always).
I hope one of these three "methods" will work for you.

975X platinum bluescreening on XP install [ problem solved ]

Ive got a 975X platinum mobo, using an E6600, 7950GX2, and 2X1GB corsair 667 RAM.
My hard drives are 2X SATA 2 250gb and 1 X 80GB SATA 2.
On initial boot i am able to get into BIOS and sort out boot sequence to boot from disc. And it recognises all of my hard drives.
When i try to install windows XP Home , after all the initial loading, just before the actual install takes place, i get a blue screen error saying theres a problem. I suspected it might have been the hard drives, so i took 2 out, leaving one 250gb in, and tried again. I got the same problem.
I have also tried with only 1 stick of RAM in, and also using a different optical drive. I still get the same problem
Im not sure what the problem can be, as i havent tried to RAID the hard drives, and they are all brand new. I did reset the CMOS after a few failed attempts, and that didnt work. I really dont know what i can do now, or what the problem can be.

Would the psu really be whats causing the bluescreen though? Surely if the psu wasnt up to grade then it wouldnt power on propperly or anything? And i did do a fair amount of research on psu. I didnt want to spend over £100, and it had to be SLI complient. (2 X pci-16). I heard a couple of bad things about some of the Akasa PSU range, and after much looking around, i opted for the epsilon. I cant seem to find any top name brands that offer more than 18A per channel at 12v.

What service pack is your CD, 1,2 or none? You probably need XP SP2 as suggested.
CD was SP2 and i was using Force Gen 2 for the SATA drives.

I have p-4 dual core 930 and msi platinum 975x (not power up edition). i want to buy the 7950X2, but at the Nvidia web site it doesnt say if it will support it. so, is this board support the 7950X2?? its really importanat to me to know it as soon as possible

7950X2 is a single card right? Yes, it will work.
Unless you planned for dual 7950X2 for "quad-SLI", then nope.
