Intel video + desktop effects used to work... now it doesn't.

I'm using kde-mod and I'm not sure what happened, but in the last week or two, desktop effects (compositing) has stopped working, and when I drag windows around, there are artifacts and such now.  It didn't used to be this way and worked quite well before.  I'm using the intel video driver... the card is a fairly recent gmasomethingorother.  I really have no idea what to do next.

Ok I finally figured it out, well sort of. The issue was that the Netgear was screwing up the DHCP. I new it had to be the the Netgear because the setup worked fine at a friends with a Linksys. The strange thing was that iTunes could see other libraries but not connect even though a ping could not. So I turned off the DHCP server and assigned manual IP's to all the clients. Didn't work, I could see the other clients and share files but the internet was lost. Weird. Next I turned DHCP back on and reset the entire network back to my original configuration. Works like a charm. I don't really know what the issue is and the solution doesn't stick, but it can be replicated without fail. Thanks to everyone.

  • [Solved] KDE Desktop Effects no longer working

    Hello,
I just did an update, (I didn't think it was a major one, I don't recall seeing graphics update, though I'm not sure how to confirm - is there a way to see recently updated packages in yaourt?) and after a brief issue with powertop that was solved by a restart (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=179789 - it may be unrelated though) I found that when I restarted, KWin Crashed, and since then, my desktop effects are not working.
I have gone to the KDE Desktop Effects Settings Menu, and under the advanced menu, set the compositing type back to OpenGL 3.1, clicked apply, and confirmed that I wanted to try it even though it had evidently crashed Kwin. I then received a message stating "21 desktop effects could not be loaded". When I clicked details, a popup window said:
"For technical reasons it is not possible to determine all possible error causes.
Desktop effect system is not running."
For the record, I am on a Thinkpad X201 with intel graphics.
    Any ideas?

    Some Extra information:
I just tried a restart, that didn't work.
I then went back into effect settings, and saw that "enable effects at startup" was not checked. I also saw that under the advanced settings, Qt Graphics system was set to raster. Since I'm not sure which it was supposed to be on originally, but the current configuration wasn't working, I also set that to Native, and then clicked apply. KWin then crashed, here is the output:
    Application: KWin (kwin), signal: Aborted
    Using host libthread_db library "/usr/lib/libthread_db.so.1".
To enable execution of this file add

  • [kwin] Failed to activate desktop effects using the given conf options

Every time i logged in  kde session, desktop effects are disabled. If I try to change compositing mode I always get this error message:
Failed to activate desktop effects using the given configuration options. Settings will be reverted to their previous values.
Check your X configuration. You may also consider changing advanced options, especially changing the compositing type.
If i delete ~/.kde4 folder and restart the system, then I have default session and I can change compositing mode and all effects are working smoothly. But after next restart effects are gone again and this message occurs
Is there are any ways to investigate/debug step by step this sort of problem? All i have googled about this message is too old or does not helpoing in my case
I had fglrx driver 14.1, then i switched back to open source driver

Same here, every time I log in all the desktop effects were disabled, I tried reinstalling KDE and rebooting for several times but still get the same result. The only fix I know for now is to logout and login but even that does not always work.

    Hi..
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:  Remove All Website Data
Now back to the menu bar, click Safari > Empty Cache
    Quit then relaunch Safari.
Try one of the sites you had trouble accessing...

I am trying to import pictures to IPAD 2 via Ipad2 Camera  Connector (Flash). Use to work now it does not. Any clues? I am a neophyte to Apple products...

If you are using a flash card, as opposed to an SD card, then I assume that you are using a third-party card reader with the kit ? If so what error, if any, are you getting e.g. a 'requires too much power' error ?
Also how are the photos getting onto the card ? If you are adding them yoursefly then you need to create a DCIM directory off the root of the card, with the photos underneath it, and the photo filenames need to be exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension i.e. in a similar format as if a camera had created/written them

is my comp. screwed up? Use to work, now drops frames on capture.
    OK.
    My G5
    mac osx 10.4.9
    processor 1.8 GHZ
    Memory 1.75 GD DDR SDRAM
started to be unable to digitize footage.
It says there are dropped frame or problems with the source tape. The same tape, using the same deck, same firewire (400-800port) work FINE on my husbands G5
So I think it has to be my computer. I was working on FCP 4, and thought maybe when I installed FCP 6 it would magically get better.
So I got fcp 6 and I still have the same problem....
any help would be much appreciated.

99 times out of 100 it's that your scratch disk can't keep up with the captures... what are you capturing to? Should be a disk other than your internal startup disk. Is this DV material?

The helpfulness of answers is limited by the details provided.  Just saying it does not work, or I got an error does not provide much to go on.  How is it not working?  What happens or does not happen?  Is an error returned?  If so what error.  Are you sure you are logging in with your home sharing ID?  It is not the same as your Apple ID or iCloud ID.

  • Why is the check box for remember passwords grayed out? It used to work now it won't save them.

Why is the check box for remember passwords grayed out? It used to work now it won't save them.

It could be because you have Firefox set to not remember any history. Did you do that intentionally? It is set in the Options dialog:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
Perhaps it would work if you choose "Use custom settings for history" and just turn off the specific things you want to turn off.
    Any luck?

  • KDE4 desktop effects no longer work

I did a pacman -Syu today in order to catch up on out of date packages and KDE4 desktop effects have stopped working. I have tried correcting this by doing nvidia-xconfig and nvidia-xconfig --composite as root to no avail. Any ideas what may have gone wrong?

Saw another post that might be the same issue here and on the chakra forums. From what I can tell it doesn't seem like there's much of resolution yet though.

  • [SOLVED] Just installed KDE 4.6, desktop effects don't work.

When I try to enable KDE's desktop effects the screen goes haywire and everything is black with nasty distorted lines. Then everything returns after a little while and KDE shows a popup notification saying that "desktop effects were too slow and have been suspended...".
I'm pretty sure my xorg.conf is configured perfectly, I've read everything there is to know about that. I was previously on Gnome with Compiz working flawlessly, so I have a feeling its not a video problem. There's always a small chance I could be wrong though.
Could it be a video driver problem? If so, what should I do about that?
Any idea what might be wrong?

I'm using xf86-video-ati with my ATI card.
I initially tried Gnome, but for some reason, gnome-shell just wouldn't start, so that why I ended up trying KDE. Once in KDE, i had this described problem.I couldn't fix it, and it was crashing (100% CPU usage sometimes), so I switched back to Gnome 3 to attempt to get the shell running. Finally, I figured out that you must not add "nomodeset" to the kernel boot line in order for gnome-shell to work, so I removed that from the end of my line and gnome-shell worked!
It might be possible that this is the solution for the KDE graphic problem as well... I'm testing it right now, i'll be back to post it after the restart...

  • Compiz/desktop effects using open source radeonhd drivers?

Just wanted to know if it was possible to get compiz/desktop effects working with the radeonhd driver, or whether I need to use the proprietary catalyst driver.  I'm currently running KDE 4.3 on a Mobility HD 2600.  No configuration of xorg.conf seems to allow desktop effects to be enabled (I've read all of the ATI/Xorg wiki documentation).
    Thanks in advance, again.

    Put this in your xorg.conf:
    Section "Device"
    Identifier "My Graphics Card"
    Driver "radeon"
Option "DRI" "on" ## Eάν επιμένει να μην ενεργοποιείται το DRI, το βάζουμε επίτηδες.
Option "DynamicClocks" "on" ## Powersaving option
Option "AccelMethod" "EXA" ## Ενεργοποίηση του EXA rendering, για γρήγορο 2D acceleration
Option "EXAVSync" "on" ## Flicker-free Xv overlay accelerated Video.
Option "DMAForXv" "on" ## Εάν δεν ενεργοποείται το Xv, video acceleration, το βάζουμε επίτηδες.
Option "ScalerWidth" "2048" ## Καλό είναι να μπει για να μην υπάρχουν artifacts σε HD video.
Option "EnablePageFlip" "on" ## Special option για 3D δεν είναι απαραίτητη. Δείτε στο man του radeon.
Option "RenderAccel" "on" ## Ενεργοποιεί το acceleration για την κάρτα γραφικών εάν δεν ξεκινάει.
Option "AccelDFS" "on" ## Ενεργοποιείστε ΜΟΝΟ εάν έχετε ενεργοποιήσει το EXA option.
    #BusID "PCI:1:0:0"

  • How can I create a video with effects using my ipad?

How can I create a video with effects (sepia, B&W, Negative, oval or any other shape borders) using my ipad?  I would Like to keep a higher res and also be able to shrink it down to email or send in a MMS. Or should I just upload it to my PC and mess with it there? Some of the apps I have are very easy to use compared to the learning curve needed for video editing software.
    Thanks

Thats the Problem . . . how many apps do I have to try until I find the one I want? I noticed a few will render the video thus losing its original size. When I went to edit it more in iMovie the video was smaller--not good. And what software do you suggest, Templeton, for the PC? I love the apps because they are easy. I dont have hours to mess around on a software to figure out if its something I want. Im looking for simplicity. Maybe Ill get more into it later. I just want to record simple video of my playing the guitar for self analysis and create a short video for family and friends.
    Apps:
    iMovie
    CinemaFXV
    VideoFix
    Cartoonatic
    Video illusion
    VidEditor
    Software:
Windows Movie maker (wont accept .mov files)
After Effects (Too little time, so much to learn)
Wondershare (Very easy but little choices)
    VideoPad (Again. Few choices)

  • Use to work, now it's not, and I'm extremely frustrated???

Both autofill and drag-and-drop use to work. Now they don't. I've downloaded upgrades, charged and restored iPod, toggled switches, made sure it's connected properly, etc. etc. and NOTHING. There is no music currently on my iPod. Why?

At this point it's clear that it's been damaged and will need to be take or sent to Apple for replacement.
    Regards.

  • Address Book sync to V400 used to work, now no?????

iSync 1.5, Panther 10.3.9 Address Book contacts to Moto V400 used to work with only occasional reset devices necessary and with iCal as well (the iCal data does sync.) Now I have no contacts on the phone and yet the full set are still in Address Book. iSync doesn't mark the non-sync with any error messages. I have limited the sync to 1 computer and just the Address Book contacts to phone with all perameters of reset device or not tried. Any ideas on how to correct this? It used to work just fine.
    1.5 GHz G4 PowerBook 1GB SDRAM   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   iSync 1.5, Motorola V400 phone

I just got off the Phone with Apple Support and they were able to help me fix the problem. Try this:
    1) Export all of your address book contacts via vCard
    2) Delete all contacts and groups from Address Book
    3) Restart your Mac, Address Book
    4) Import the vCard contacts back into the Address Book
    5) Restart iTunes
    6) Sync.
That should do it. Hope this works for you.

  • Error #3: "memory.cpp", line 639; VI used to work, now it stopped

    Hello,
I am running LabVIEW 6.0.2. I have a rather complicated VI that used to work just fine. I have run it a bunch of times without any problems. I have not changed anything at all, and now it gives me Error #3: "memory.cpp", line 639 every time I run it. Does anybody know what could have happened?
    Thanks,
    Corey

    Corey,
    Not without seeing the code.
Perhaps there is some memory leakage going on, or open references that cannot be resolved.
Also, check your memory to make sure it is still working (view your RAM amount).
Other possibilities include possible conflicts with software running in the background, or software you recently installed.
Check your task bar, and make sure your virus protection and anything else unecessary is off. These can eat memory and processor time.
Other than that, navigate to the site where the bug tells you to (don't remember off the top of my head) and report it to NI.
    Good luck
