Intel X3100 + 10.6.3 = video artifacts?

Hi,
Few days ago I upgraded to 10.6.3 and yesterday installed vmware fusion. After that sometimes strange artifacts shows up - http://img15.imageshack.us/i/screenshot20100417at171.png/ . This is Snow Leopard problem or hardware fault?
Thanks,
kristapsb

Well guys, after some research and long time "toilet meditation" I figured out this problem should be caused by 1) bad drivers or 2) some video plugin.
My research suggested that one group with the same hardware and software configuration has the problem and other one has not. So, it had to be some other software that was causing problems.
After reviewing everything on my mac, I found out I was using Flash 10.1 beta. I just changed back to the stable version of Flash 10.0.someting and the problem was instantly solved.
To remove the beta software, use the removing tool available for download on Adobe's website.
Again, sorry for my English.

Hi I have a asus p5k-vm motherboard with intel 3100 onboad graphics accelerator. I had a gtx 570 video card install and was using itunes
to watch video and tv shows. I sold my gtx 570 and I am using intel x3100 onboard graphics accelerator as my video card. Everything works
fine until I try to watch video or tv shows in itunes. When it tries to start, the screen starts and then right awat it stop and shuts down becuse of some error. I don't know what the problem is.
    Please help.

Since updating to 5.0 numerous people have had an issue with optical out. . Try Restart your ATV & computer. Also cycle the power on the ATV and TV (unplug it for 30sec). You should also submit a bug report directly to Apple since they DO NOT read these forums

  • Intel i915 Video Artifacts with Xorg 1.9

Hey everyone.  I set up Arch with my girlfriend on her Asus U81A earlier tonight, but we're getting some terrible video artifacting and I can't seem to find us a solution.  Basically the screen often fails to refresh after things even as simple as typing - lots of black boxes.  Is anyone getting the same behavior?  Has anyone come across a solution?  Here are her versions of the pertinent packages.  I'm not sure if this is just a conflict with the new xorg 1.9 or what...  I tried specifying the intel driver manually via both mkinitcpio.conf and GRUB (where you modeset=1).  Neither helps at all.
    gnome-desktop 2.32.0-1
    xorg-server 1.9.0-1
    xf86-video-intel 2.12.0-3
Thanks to anyone who has info on this subject.

  • Intel x3100 trouble

    I'm using Archlinux x64.
I did a fresh install (i'm using OB) and i have intel x3100 integrated card (in my motherboard). So i've tried like 2 hours to install the damn drivers and make the hole thing work, but it didn't.
I did everything according to WIKi :
Installed xf86-intel-video , add myself to a "video" group, add i915 to modules in mkinicpio and add i915.modeset=1 into the kernel line in grub.
In the end = my resolution is wrong ,i have a weird artifact at the top part of my screen.
What i have to do, to make everything work well?!

I've already added myself (the only user) to the "video"group. That's the list of my actions with the system:
    - Install xf86-video-intel
    - Add user to "video" group
    - Add i915 to /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
    - made mkinitcpio -p linux
    - add "i915.modeset = 1" into kernel's line in grub file
    I've even tried the "desperate" way - http://wiki.archbang.org/index.php?titl … Mode_Guide
The maximum thing that i get is - wrong resolution of the screen (1900xi_dont_know, its bigger than my monitor) my normal resolution is 1400x900 or i get the "X is being .... to frequently" something like that.
    What am i doing wrong?!

  • CS4 GPU Acceleration and Intel X3100

    Hello everyone,
I currently own a laptop which I use heavily for image editing. It is powered by a very fast Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz and a power-efficient yet perfectly capable Intel X3100 integrated graphics chip.
My chip supports all of the necessary Shader versions, OpenGL 2.0, etc. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_GMA#GMA_X3100 ). However, when I visit the Preferences menu to enable the OpenGL acceleration, I am presented with a grayed-out option telling me I may need to upgrade my drivers or graphics card.
I have tried new driver versions. Certainly I should not have to purchase another card (impossible in a laptop in fact) seeing as my chip supports all of the requisite features.
    Help? Thanks!
    Steve

    Hi Anne,
Let me clarify. I am not aware of any current compatibility issues with Flash (author or player).
The current Intel graphics drivers do not have the OpenGL features that Photoshop looks for to enable OpenGL acceleration. Intel is in the process of developing and testing an updated driver that will support this, hopefully to be released in early 2009.
    However,
b Photoshop CS4 does currently run reliably
on systems with Intel graphics - it's just that the new OpenGL-accelerated features in CS4 are not available.
I have used an Intel GM45 system with a pre-production driver to test the new Photoshop CS4 OpenGL features like smooth-zoom, birds-eye view, and canvas rotate, and they perform smoothly. The OpenGL performance is noticably slower on older GM965 systems, but it is still almost-smooth and better than not having OpenGL enabled at all. (Note that OpenGL 2.0 will
    i not
be supported on GM945 and earlier chipsets.)
It seems you are aware that the choice of a new notebook system does not only depend on the graphics chip's capabilities, but rather how the performance of the whole system suits your needs. For example, I use Premiere Pro to edit HDV and AVCHD video, and this depends much more on the performance of the CPU than on the graphics, so I would want a system with the best CPU, perhaps even at the cost of some graphics performance.
From what I have seen of Photoshop's new OpenGL features, the GM45 chipset is quite capable of giving most users a nice, smooth experience, and even the GM965 is "ok", with just a little jerkiness. An exception may be users that bring fancy, large 3D models into Photoshop - this should work, but I don't have that type of file to test the performance (anybody want to share some?).
To summarize, the Intel graphics systems will work with Photoshop CS4 now, just without OpenGL features. If these OpenGL features are important to you, and you can wait until Feb-March for the new driver (sorry, still no firm promise on the exact date), then I would still recommend an Intel integrated graphics system with a GM965, GM35, or GM45 chipset (GM45 having the best performance).

  • MacBooks w/ Intel x3100 Chipset = Problems.

Hello. I was wondering if anyone else using newer MacBooks with the intel x3100 chipset are having problems with their computer? I purchased my MacBook about two months ago. It is a Black MacBook: 2.2ghz Intel Duo, 1 gig ram, intel x3100, leopard 10.5.2. I installed world of warcraft and the burning crusade, downloaded the patches and logged in. WoW crashed after about 30 seconds of gameplay, this happens consistently in full screen or windowed mode. Also when watching a longer flash video or playing some flash games my browser and/or entire computer will crash. I was using the latest firefox, but have switched back to safari3, as it seems to run considerably smoother. anyway just wondering what people experiences are with the macbooks with the intel x3100 chip.

frankly I gave up on gaming on mine. I pay WoW on a 1.8 Sempron, 1GB ram, with a Geforce 6600 and my 2.16, dual-core, 2GB V2 macbook can't keep up at all. With the settings on Low it was barely passable compared to a very-low-end PC. Benchmarks show the 3100 is only 50% better than nothing. Blizzard heavily hacked WoW to work on Macbooks with the 950 chipset, then Intel finally "fixed" the major hardware missing issues with 3100 opening up a new batch of stuff that "almost" works like a normal GPU should. Blizzard made a great attempt to get WoW on a sub-2003 graphics subsystem... but by the time you strip it down, you're not playing the game as intended and it suffers.
The Macbook is a great computer, personally I like the fact it's smaller than the Pros and easier to maintain. It seems less fragile than a Pro, and easier to grab-n-go. Comes with great software and is leaps above a PC. (I had one of those Dell 700m machines for 2 years at work as my full time machine and loved it, the macbook is a sleeeker, faster machine that doesn't feel "hacked" when you look at the bottom) But they chose to really shoot any kind of gaming with the macbook in the foot.
What I'd really like to see is a blackbook priced macbook (non-pro options) with the 8400 chipset (now that pro is 8600 it shouldn't conflict), that would be in line with other PC makers that put that chip in notebooks cheaper than the macbook.

  • How to improve Intel X3100 performance on Satellite L300

    Hello everyone.
First of all, I dont know whether it is a suitable place to post this thread here or not but I would like to share with you the experience on improving Intel X3100 (GMA965).
As we know, there is still no good driver from Intel for this chipset at the moment, especially on VIsta.
This improvement is done by editing the Registry of Intel's driver.
    *Steps:*
    *1* Open Run (Windows+R)
    *2* Enter Regedit
    *3* Open the subfolder: *HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\Video\*
*4* From here you will see lots of subfolders in Video, Open each of them until you see folder *0000* with +_3DMark03.exe+
(For example, my is {HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contr ol\Video\{B5990899-FBCB-45E1-B0B0****} and reg DWord _3Dmark03.exe is found in both subfolders *0000* and *0001*
*5* In *0000* and *0001*, create two new *DWORD* format : *_software.exe* and *~software.exe*, value=1 (hex). Here, *software* stands for the name of the program you want to speed up like *_photoshop.exe* and *~photoshop.exe*
*6* In these folders, look for *GFX_Options* and change its value to *1*
*7* Restart your computer to enable GFX
*8* Repeat step 4 to add more software that you want
Futher updates for the drivers are under developed. However, this method will help you speed up your computer performance with +heavy+ required graphical software. I got doubled FPS on some software on my Toshiba L300 by using this method such as Corel, WarcraftIII and Titan Quest (24-32fps measuring by Fraps)
Hope this is useful for everyone.
    Best wishes

Sorry about this inconvenient. On the post above, Step 4 and Step 5 are not clear due to the html code. Here is the correct way to make it worked
*Step 5:* In 0000 and 0001, create two new DWORD format : *_software.exe* and *~software.exe*, *value=1 (hex)*. Here, software stands for the name of the program you want to speed up like _photoshop.exe and ~photoshop.exe

  • Archlinux and Intel X3100

I'm thinking about buying a notebook with this video card, an Intel X3100, and I'd like to know how good it is. I've heard Intel has nice OSS drivers, but I'm not sure about its hardware.
I don't use OpenGL a lot, but these are the things I'd like to work nicely:
    - Blender
    - Video playback
Games and compiz effects aren't necessary, but it would be nice if they work, too.

    Hello Archers,
Could anyone tell me why compositing doesn't seem to work on my X3100?
When i turn on compositing in KDE4 the screen gets white with visible only borders of windows (or rather their shadows).

  • Video Artifacts During Heavy GPU Operations

    Hello,
    I have a Mid-2014 Macbook Pro 15-inch, 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB RAM, GeForce GT 750M 2 GB.
When I perform GPU-heavy operations, such as rendering in Adobe Media Encoder using CUDA, I start to get video artifacts onscreen. I have attached an example.
The computer is sitting on an iCurve elevated stand, and I can hear the fans running. I suspect this is being caused by heat but I'm not sure. The problem is exasperated when I'm using 3 displays so I am now only using 2 external displays.
The problem also gets worse as the gpu-intensive tasks progress.
There are no meaningful messages in the console logs that would indicate software problems.
I would like to check my GPU temperature, but there is no straightforward way to do this with the NVIDIA GPU.

    Have you tried iStat menus?

You also might make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a FREE evaluation.  Bring the screen shoots with you.
    Ciao.

  • Video Artifacts: Radeon 9800 Pro + ACD 23 (Clear) + G5

    Hi guys.
I've been experiencing some video artifacts with my retail version Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB (not the OEM "XT" version from Apple) which is driving my ACD 23" (Clear Enclosure), which is connected to a Dualie 2.5GHz G5 running Tiger 10.4.2.
Prior to installing the upgraded video card, I never had this problem, so I am pretty sure it's the card.
It has only happened to me when the G5 wakes from sleep. And it doesn't happen very often, either. Maybe 1 out of 20 wakes from sleep. The only way to get it back to normal is to turn off the G5 completely, disconnect the ADC connector cable from the back of the video card, and then reconnect it and reboot.
I also have a second display connected to a Radeon 7000 via VGA and when the artificats appear, the other display is just fine. The weird thing is that I can actually take a screen shot of the artifacts, which I thought wouldn't show up. I am not sure what that means, but I think the fact that I can take a screenshot of it tells me the display is being corrupted at the system level. Right?
Any help would be appreciated. TIA.
    Here's a screenshot:
    http://tinyurl.com/8jvtb

    Hi Bryanus,
Did you have an ADC port on your old card? Do you still have your old card? If this is the case, you can verify that the new card is implicated by re-installing your old card and seeing whether the problem repeats itself.
If you only have DVI on your old card, you would have to borrow an adaptor, but then you are relying on the adaptor to function properly.
If the problem doesn't repeat itself with your old card being used, then the new card is the culprit, in which case I'd ask to have it replaced, or get a refund.
If the problem does repeat itself with the old card, then you might want to consider other possible contributing factors such as the physical state of the monitor connection (dirty or tarnished contacts, bent pins etc.).
If the problem repeats itself with a new (replacement) card, you could add AGP slot issues to the above paragraph.
"Sleep" in an Apple Mac often generates issues with third party hardware, so your primary consideration that it is probably the card is (to me anyway) still the most likely.
All the best with the diagnosis!
    Cheers!
    Karl

  • Adobe flash player and intel x3100 chipset

    My name is Jamie
I would just like to say that the beta release of flash player works very well on intel X3100 chipset as well.

It seems that going to Preferences>Security> Check allow plug ins, then manage sites, and then allowing one site allows all??? Seems like a lot to go through.  I have installed the player 4 times now and just got it figured out!

im having strange video artifacts when dragging a file from any finder window onto the desktop.... this youtube video shows it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXhzTDbuhIA  (this is not my video and the lion used there was not the commercial release but its exactly the same behavior)
i use an imac 27 i7 2011 with clean lion install and applied 10.7.1 update  (it happened the same prior to update)

    Try both of these Resets:
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Imovie 9 "far far away "video artifacts on render

Trying to a 30 second clip in iMovie 9.0.9 using the Stars background and "far far away" text fx. I can add the text no problem but when it renders, I am getting a whole bunch of video artifacts. After I render, the same artifacts show up in iMovie in the preview pane. They never actually show uo until I render. Any thoughts? This is on a macbook air (original) but I have tried it on different systems with the same result. The text is short phases (for grade 1) all center justified. Looks like a bug in the far far away script.

  • H.264 export video artifacts with regular background pattern

I'm generally very pleased with the flexibility and quality of the H.264 video encoder provided by Premiere Pro.
However, I have one scene, with a graph-paper-like background that generates video artifacts when zooming in and out, no matter how high I set the bitrate.
I'm including two images created by grabbing frames from the exported movie from Quick Time Player.  The first shows the scene without artifacts (at the end when the
zooming is over) while the second shows the effect when I'm zooming in on the scene.  As you can see, the artifacts consist of graying out of the black lines and appearance of some "tick" lines along the lines, which I assume is due to the compression algorithm used by the codec.   Does anyone have experience with such problems and can suggest a way to avoid this? It's a relatively short segment of the video that is effected.
    Thanks in advance!

Hmmm... the second file ppVideoArtifactOn.jpg appears by name in the original posting after the first, visible image.  I'm not sure why it's not showing up, but I'll include it here again:
