Intelligent Rationale for $100 Gift Card to Previous iPhone Buyers

Facts
- 33% Price drop < 10 weeks after release
- Apple will give a full refund if you purchased within 14 days of price cut
- No other respectable phone or electronics product has ever been cut so drastically. Im sure someone will come up with some obscure product but let's talk mainstream respectable companies. The Motorola Razr came out at well under retail and subsidized on the release date but several articles are forgetting this. Yes it has come down since then but at no where near this kind of rate.
q: Why should Apple care?
a: How many of us early adopters have learned that Apple is no longer going to keep respectable pricing practices and as a result we will no longer buy the latest and greatest when it comes out. Forget standing in line to help Apple PR. This is just as bad as when Apple learned their lesson of releasing product information early and suffering sales losses as a result. Some early adopters aren't bothered by this but I think enough are to stop buying immediately after a release.
q: What would it cost to Apple to spit the difference and gain respect with a $100 gift card?
a: Conservatively lets say they sold 1 million phones which is a bit high but its private data. Business 2.0 reported on Aug 22nd that they were approaching 1 million sold. That's good because we can conservatively use 1 million sold just before the cut off for a refund of $200. For the last 4 official quarters Apple made a profit after tax of 2.788 billion. This does not include the hefty 50% markup the iphone which will increase profits. It would cost them 100million dollars and they would make at least 15% profit on the gift cards lowering their cost to 85million if all were used which never happens. 85 mil/ 2,788m = 3.05% hit on annual net income to makes things right but what's the cost of not doing it?
My Experience Calling Apple
I called Apple today September 6th and the customer service representative was very understanding but the bottom line is that Apple is not yet willing to give any credit to people who bought before Aug 23rd. I got the impression that with more people calling they will be forced to act.
What can you do?
Call Apple at 1-800-MYAPPLE. Press 1 for iPhone and 2 for previous orders. Explain these points:
- You are unhappy about the drastic cut
- You don't expect a full refund but $100 credit would make things right.
- Be polite and professional. It's easy to say no if your rude.
- Keep calling they will act.

Hello sos,
I apologize for my delayed response on your inquiry and I appreciate you reaching out to us with this question.
The terms of the promotion you inquired about simply asked that the iPhone was free of cracks, no signs of water damage, and was able to power on. If your phone met these terms, you should not have had an issue trading it in for the $100 Best Buy gift card. I hope you were able to take advantage of this offer before its expiration on Saturday November 29, 2014.
Please let me know if you have any other questions as I would be glad to try and answer them.
Thanks,

  • Anyone else having problem getting promo code for $100 gift card??

This is ridiculous.  I upgraded from an LG chocolate touch to the Thunderbolt and still have NOT gotten my promo code for $100 gift card.  Is this happening to anyone else?  I've called customer service to no avail.  I'm supposed to get a clal back this Sunday to see if the code came through yet.  This is the only reason I upgraded right now.  I am not a happy customer.

We upgraded my daughter's LG ENV3 to an Iphone on 08-18-11.  The salesman told us we'd be getting a promo code in 5 days by email or SMS.  Still hadn't seen it by the middle of September so we started calling customer service.  Over several hours, we spoke to five different people and received five different reasons why we either would get the code or wouldn't get the code, ranging from we didn't quality (false) to your email is rejecting the code that we've sent numerous times (also false). We were told that they could give us the code over the phone, but that particular person didn't know how and then we were told that the code could never be given over the phone.  I finally walked into the Verizon store where I bought the Iphone and got the manager on the case.  It took him 2 days talking to multiple people in Verizon, who I as a mere paying customer could not contact on my own, to finally get someone who was willing to send the code again (or was it being sent for the first time?).  That problem solver somewhere in the bowels of Verizon told me on Friday, Sept. 30th that I should be getting the email any minute and to keep checking and he would call me on Monday, Oct 3rd to make sure I received it (Big surprise he never called back on Monday).  On Saturday, Oct 1st I still hadn't received the email to either of the email addresses that he said he was sending it to so I started checking the boards here and realized that I was not alone in my misery. I took somebody's suggestion and sent a PM to on of the customer service people on this forum, explaining in detail my problem and still haven't received a response from her.  Needless to say, Daisy at Verizon won't be receiving any Kudos from me.  FInally, on Monday night I received an SMS with a working code  that was accepted by the trade-in website.  Hopefully, I get my $100 but I won't hold my breath.  I've been with Verizon for years and currently have five phone on my account.  I've had a variety of customer service experiences with them over the years, some very good and some not so good, but this $100 gift card has been a real eye opener in customer service ineptitude.

    - it's all said in the title. I can't understand why the developers turn things bad ... risking loosing Apples valuable customers.
More examples needed? (check out the communities and the reviews)
    - OSX: Maverick to Yosemite = not recommended (check it out > http://roaringapps.com/apps)
    - iPad: older versions as iPad2 should not upgrade to iOS7/8 (it's not supporting its hardware accordingly, it's designed for the latest hardware)
    - iTunes (it's possible to rollback to 10.7 - 11.4, but you need to breech OSX system security framework)
    - Pages (was a real alternative for many of us, each update reduced features and created incompatibility to older work files)
The list could easily extend to ...

What were you buying ? If you were gifting content or an amount then that will be taken from your credit card, an account's balance can't be used for gifting. • $ 100 Gift Card - Not Received - Frustrating !

I upgraded one of my phone - using the TRADEIN Promotion....BASIC to SMARTPHONE.
I had to call three times and finally speak to supervisor.....to get the textcode.
After submitting the textcode I received a brown envelope - I did everything mentioned and personally delivered the basic phone to the Post Office.
Called verizon to verify receipt - they kept telling me they dont have the phone.
Finally they said that they would give me the $100 gift card in the mail -  this happened on Nov 15th 2011
Nov 28th 2011 - No gift card received - Called back again  - was told to wait three weeks - till Dec 7th 2011.
Called back again on Dec 7th - was told - the delay could be because of Thanksgiving Weekend -  wait 5 more days
Today Dec 13th 2011 - No sign of Gift Card.
I have been a Verizon customer for more than 10 years....
Verizon should keep its promise  - the way they want their patrons to fulfill the contract.
This experience is dissappointing and upsetting....

  • Have not received my $100 Gift Card yet.

I know I am not the only one here going through this. Someone please help!
This whole process started some time ago in September. I am just waiting on the $100 gift card itself at this point, which I am told can take up to three weeks. But this is the second time I am having to wait three weeks. The first time, before calling customer service, I had waited about 4-5 weeks without receiving the gift card in the mail. After calling customer service (who was quite nice and accommodating) it was to be that they would cancel the first gift card, which had apparently been mailed, and process/mail a second one to me. I was told that it could still take up to three weeks to receive this new gift card...
Unfortunately, I still have not received even the second gift card and I am at the three week mark now.
Has anyone been through this? Is there anything I can do??

  • Use Credit for iTunes Gift CARDS in Online Store?  No Deal!

Apple has finally caught up with those of us who would hope to buy gift cards by mail from the online store. No deal!
I attempted the transaction twice over the course of 2 hours and got the message:
We are unable to process this credit at this time. Please choose another payment method.
After I got the message, the whole Apple credit area was grayed out. Has this happened to anyone else?
Has anyone gone to an Apple store and tried to buy gift cards?

We just got disallowed because one of our iPhones was partially paid for with a $100 gift card (paid for with a full $100).
Let's see how this shakes out. How could the rebate programmers have missed this major gaff?
In any event, more work for me, the lowly consumer.
Enjoy your 1 millionth iPhone sale, Steve.

  • Why did I get charged for the gift card from the student deal with macbook pro?

Why did I get charged for the $100 gift card student deal that came with the macbook pro? I was told that it would be taken credited off my credit card however; that has not happened. Am I missing something? Have other people been charged for this as well?

The same thing happened to me but it made sense.
I ordered a MBPR on Jun 12 for $2879 which qualified for the free student gift card. The gift card was available to ship (delivers June 20 - June 21) but the MBPR wasn't available until a month later (deliverys July 3 - July 10). Instead of holding the gift card until the MBPR was ready, Apple charged me $100 for the card then shipped it to me.
About a month later when the MBPR was ready, Apple charged me $2779 then shipped it. In the end, I was charged the correct amount $2779 + $100 = $2879.
Why did Apple do this? I suspect that some people have cheated Apple by ordering a Mac to get the promotional gift card then canceled their order after the gift card was spent. Apple is trying to protect itself.
BTW, if you return the mac then you're expected to return the gift card. If you've spent any amount of the card then Apple will deduct this from your refund.

  • $100 gift card promotion/ Galaxy S6

I upgrade my phone line to the new Galaxy S6 that was supposed to include a $100 gift card. Well, the gift card didnt print with the paperwork, I was told that it would be emailed to me but it wasn't. I called corporate and was told that I would need to go bact to the store because this was an instore promotion and an email could not be sent. I went back to the store, the representative called corporate again an dthey told him the a ticket would be opened and that I should be getting an email within a week for more information. I still haven't received that email... why couldn't they just give me the $100 gift card when I was at the store so I wouldn't get this run around, It's frustrating.

    Hello cpatel9,
Thank you for joining the forums and for coming to us with this inquiry. Getting a new phone is one of my favorite technology purchases to make. If I encountered this in store as a customer, I am sure I would be equally as confused. I am sorry if your extra store visits to AT&T and another Best Buy location were of any inconvenience to you.
As avm5689 (Alex) said above, this message may come up for a few different reasons, and it may even be in error. In my experience this message can occur when we are trying to activate a line on a business account which we are typically unable to do. This may even explain your phone carrier’s perspective of nothing being wrong on their end, but simply unaware that we cannot perform activations on these types of accounts.
I have reached out to my support team for more info on this situation and I will likely provide you with our findings via private message. • £100 Gift Card UK/US Post Purchase

Recently, I bought a Macbook Pro 13" Retina from Apple Store Fifth Av. NYC. I am a UK resident, and I forgot to mention I'm a student, during the time Apple have their promotional offer of a £100 gift card for students upon purchase of an item like that. I'm not a student in the US, would this affect me still getting a gift card? Can I still redeem the gift card even though I've had the Macbook for 5 days now?
NOTE: There was no 'Apple Store' community, so I just simply selected the product I bought

    Matty,
Being as the Store was in New York, the gift card, even if you can get your hands on it,  will surely be a USA gift card, which cannot be redeemed outside the USA.

  • Do I receive the 100$ gift card when buying an Unactivated device?

Hello, I'm interested in buying the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge.
Do I receive the 100$ gift card when I buy an Unactivated device (meaning without a plan)?
For How long will this promotion run?
    Thanks

    Hi there endangered,
Thank you for sharing that link with me! When I clicked on the $100 gift card logo on the device page, it brought me here. Sadly, it seems this $100 gift card would require a 2-year agreement, lease or installment billing plan to receive the $100 gift card. So you wouldn't be able to buy it as an unactivated device and receive this gift card. I apologize for any disappointment that this may cause. Please let me know if you have any other questions!

  • If I wanted to exchange my iPhone 5 for the new iPhone 6 (no additional cost after $199 gift card from selling iPhone 5) do I have to pre-order online or do I just have to show up at a Verizon store Sept 19th?

If I wanted to exchange my iPhone 5 for the new iPhone 6 (no additional cost after $199 gift card from selling iPhone 5) can I pre-order online now or do I just have to show up at a Verizon store Sept 19th?

scodaddy, that is a wonderful question. We are super excited about the new iPhone. You can always pre-order your new iPhone online and then start the mail in rebate by following this link: http://bit.ly/GGnDDC Or you can always go into the store location and do it all in store on the 19th when the phone is launched. That would depend on if the store has them in stock when you go in. I hope that this was able to address your concern.

  • HT2534 i want to set up my apple id but it ask for the gift card but i dont use them

I want to set up my Apple ID for my phone but it ask for the Gift Card but I dont use them ? what do I do ?

If you are trying to create an Apple ID without using a credit card, you have to follow the directions in the article you were reading (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534) exactly.  Note that you have to start by downloading and installing any free app, then create the ID.  You shouldn't be asked for a Gift Card to create the ID.
