Intellisync data files, i.e., .dba transfer to Centro's Palm desktop...

Hi, I recently purchased a Centro through AT&T. I installed the desktop sync program but it didn't find my old Intellisync data files: .dba, etc. These were from Intellisync for my old Palm IIIc. I know where the data files are but I need to know how to export (?) transfer (?) them to the new program. Anyone have any ideas?
btw, I have Windows XP.
Thank you!
Post relates to: Centro (AT&T)

The current Palm Desktops use either .dat or .mdb files to store the data. If you open the palm desktop and go to file, then import, you should be able to import any Palm compatible files into the new desktop.

  • Moving data from old computer to new computer. where does Palm Desktop app find conduit apps?

    Please help,
I have backed up my old database files from my Palm programs off of my old computer
(The hard drive and computer were going bad, and then it died).
Question:  what directories and where do I copy the old data, so I can hotsync?
I hotsynced once, but I don't see the programs in the Hotsynce conduit screen, where
you select to handheld overwrite  desktop  or  synchronize the files.
Question: In the conduit screen, what directory does it look for the programs in?
    I have a Sony-Clie, PEG-SJ22, Palm Desktop v4.1, Hotsync Mgr 4.1.0, .
I have spend 4 days on re-installing palm software, to solve the usb hotsync issue.
I'm finally able to hotsync,  Thanks to previous postings and hours of re-installing different versions
    of the palm software.
Any help on the questions, would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The directory for your data will typically be c>program files>palm>[user folder, usually an abbreviated version of your Hotsync ID]
Are the missing conduits for third-party applications?  If so, you will have to track down and reinstall them...most apps which have a conduit must run an installation routine on the desktop to actually install the conduit.

  • DESPERATE: How to transfer my Treo 680/Palm Desktop info into my new 3GS?

Hello, so I finally bit the bullet and made the switch from my beloved Palm environment to the iPhone. Been on the Palm since they first came out. Yes, PalmDesktop (on 4.2.2. for the Mac) is awful and ugly and out of date, but it's where all my data is. (Trust, am upgrading my Mac when I can, just not the year for that expense too, sadly.)
And I am now up that migration creek of **** I thought I would be.
I have over 3,000 contacts in my Treo, with 300 memos, and a huge calendar dating back to Feb 2000 (no joke). It's like a life diary to me, I want to import it all. My work IS my contact list, so I need to import all 3,000 of them, with all their notes, categories, etc. into my new 3GS.
I am not sure how to do this. Desperately need some hand holding on this import.
Am on a Mac so I don't have Outlook.
Do I have to get everything into iCal and Address Book? How? Has anyone done this and preserved categories?
Do I shell out for Missing Sync and start there? (Anyone used this method?)
My friend and I tried iSync a long time ago and it doesn't preserve the categories, etc. so that isn't an optimal solution.
Am reading a bit online about people transferring from Palm into Google, and then the iPhone? That's a whole other ballgame. Thoughts? How to?
I am so lost. Been online for three hours and have no idea which way to turn.
Here's the desperate part: am leaving for Europe Saturday am, and need to make sure my contacts are in my phone, otherwise I have to drag the Treo along too so I have my data! Ridiculous.
    Has anyone done this transfer?
I'd be so incredibly grateful for guidance.
    Thank you!!!!

    Here are your options:
    1. Export from Palm Desktop and import to iCal and Address Book Instructions are here:
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/pre/migration/exportical.html
The downer is that this will lose your categories in Address Book, I think.
    2. Get Missing Sync here:
    http://www.markspace.com/products/palm/palm-sync-software.html?source=pickerpalmosmac
    3. Sync the Treo to Address Book and iCal, then connect the iPhone and sync from AB/iCal to the iPhone. Instructions here
    http://askville.amazon.com/Palm-Treo-700p-sync-Mac-OS-iCal-Address-Book/AnswerVi ewer.do?requestId=2508818
Number 3 is your best bet - it should retain all the categories etc. However, doing this in a hurry is a recipe for panic. My advice is to try 3 first. If you can't get it to work, try 1. Although that might lose categories, it gets everything onto the iPhone, and the iPhone's built-in Spotlight search will enable you to find people, events etc really quickly. And it's easy and quick. Later on, when you have time, you can try something cleverer.
    You don't need Missing Sync

  • I have a old firefox data file from a computer transfer i did and i want to get all the bookmarked sites i had orginized how can i do this?

so a while back i transfered my old computer files to my new computer and when i did that i tried getting my firefox books marks added when i did it it just made a file old firefox data. i went into it it has the books marks but the problem is it isnt really readable kinda jumbled up and i wanna know if i can import it to my current one or somehow get it organized so i can at least see them apart or on a note pad just each bookmark on its own line? i added a picture of what it looks like

Backing up and restoring your Profile should have included your bookmarks.
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recovering-important-data-from-an-old-profile
That looks like a JSON bookmarks backup file, from 11-01-2012. Did you try '''restoring''' that file?
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-bookmarks-from-backup-or-move-them#w_using-a-bookmark-backup-file
Never messed with JSON files other than viewing them on a few occasions out of curiosity. There are no line breaks which make them very difficult to read.
As far as working with that file in {like} NotePad goes:
    A. use Find / Search for each indecent of a '''"uri"''' string, then "copy and paste" the uri into another text file, and then move on to the next "uri" string.
    B. use a text program where a filter can be set for the "uri" field in the JSON file for a line break or to "scrape out" the "uri"s only for display or export to a list of uri's.
Or try using an online JSON editor like this, to try to display only the "uri" field.

  • How do I take some data files off computer and transfer copies to my iPad?

I am a writer and would like to tranfer a file of unfinished short stories to my iPad so I can work on them while on Christmas vacation. How do I do that?

You first need an app on the iPad that supports whatever format your files are in - the iPad doesn't have a file system like a 'normal' computer, everything has to be associated with an app. If your files are in Word format then apps such as Apple's Pages and third-party apps such as Documents To Go and QuickOffice HD are three options.
As to how you then get the files onto the iPad will depend upon which app you chose, as different apps can have different ways of copying their content to/from a computer e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc.

  • Centro hotsync palm desktop strange dates

When I synched my centro a couple weeks ago, it started putting certain events 3 hours different on my palm desktop, and they all had this global or international type icon.  My phone is the same (correct times) and continues to keep the appointments as always, but I am concerned because it seems strange and second, when carbonite backs up my palm info, it does it from the computer, not my phone.  Do you have any idea what is causing this?
    I use Vista
    Palm desktop 6.2.2
    my centro says 1.08-SPNT
    Thanks.

OK, it seems as if this is not an issue anybody is familiar with.  Has anyone seen the "international" or world icon?

  • Palm Desktop datebook data file

I've been a Palm user for 13 years.
A year ago, my trusty Z-22's battery died. So I bought a M500 online from one of Amazon's 3rd party vendors. It worked adequately, but with a number of glitches that I learned to live with. By July or so of this year, I noticed appointments randomly disappearing from my desktop Palm app. No rhyme or reason, past, future, etc. I kept many data backups and just kept putting those files back into the desktop.
Then Oct 1st, everything on the calendar disappeared. 13+ years of data, gone. Fearing it was the funky M500 (fortunately I did not sync after the data loss, so had the entire calendar on the handheld), I bought a refurbished Z-22 from an Amazon 3P. Uninstalled desktop software (saved all data files), downloaded the latest Palm desktop software I could find (v. 6.2.2), loaded all data files, back in business. Everything worked like a charm. For one month (I sync several times a day).
Nov 1st, entire calendar gone. So I looked a little closer. MS Office Access apparently installed a .dat file in the datebook folder with 108kb worth oaf data (the legitimate datebook.dat file is 1,308kb). Everytime I open Palm Desktop, that's the file that's altered. Erase it, it reappears everytime I re-open Palm DT,
I don't use MS Office Access, so I removed it. Open Palm DT, now a new 1kb UiPrefs.dat is created, even if I open DT by double clicking the real datebook.dat file. HELP! I must note that throughout this whole ordeal, the address book, memo, todo list were totally unaffected.
Vista Home Premium 32 bit. MS Office 2007.
    Thank you!

I haven't been able to hot sync with my handheld since I upgraded to Vista, so there is no backup on the handheld of any data.  Grrrrrrr!   I don't believe it.  I thought I'd read posts about other people backing up their data.
Is there any "cheaters method" to create a backup copy by changing where the data file is saved, then changing it back, or something similar, so there are always two copies?  I don't want this happening again, and I won't be able to upgrade my handheld for several months still.

  • Create DBA files to export Centro Database to Another Mch with Palm Desktop Installed

    Hi:
How to I create a dba file of all the info on my Centro for export to another machine with the same Centro Access/Palm database.

"All the info"?  Or just the PIM data?
If you want to Export the database information in Contacts or the Calendar, use Palm Desktop's "Export" function.  Open Contacts, choose File/Export to save the info to a file.
This can then be "Imported" by the other Centro's Palm Desktop, whether on another computer, or another Hotsync User Name on the same computer.

  • Restore Palm Desktop Addresses from last Hot Sync and using those backup files

I have numerous issues.  First I have Windows Vista 64 byte which does not allow a USB Hot Sync so I attempted the Wireless Hot Sync and killed my Palm Centro.  The information was restores going to the store and they did something.  So that is my first issues - I am unable to Hot Sync.  However the Hot Sync took place and I have found the 'Back-up' files on my Computer from that Hot Sync Operation.
My new issue is that somehow I lost many addresses on my Palm Desktop Address File and that is a mystery to me.
What I am trying to accomplish now is to restore those missing addresses on my Palm Desktop (Computer Files) using if possible those backed up files from the last Hot Sync as i do not believe I should try the Wireless Hot Sync again since that has failed me twice and my phone dies and it needs to be restored at the Sprint store.  I'm not even sure I remember now how exactly that was done....
So, is there a way to restore addresses to my computer Palm Desktop from those back-up files from the Hot Sync?  OR does anyone have a solution to actually performing this Wireless Hot Sync without killing  my Palm Centro again?
Thank you for any ideas or suggestions to either or both issues.

You can recover the data from your user folder provided you have only sync'ed once with the PC when you discovered the data missing. When you sync to the PC there are files created for each PIM category in your user folder. For Example; datebook.dat or datebook (Depending on the version of Palm Desktop) and datebook.bak. Using 6.2 the file names are .mdb and mdb.bak. For 6.2, the files are located in the username folder in PalmOSdesktop in my documents.
The files are named .dat and .bak. When you sync, the current data is stored in .dat. The next time you sync the data in the .dat file is copied to the .bak file. You can rename the .dat to .old. then rename the .bak to .dat. If the data in the .bak file is intact, it will now be in palm desktop when you reopen Palm desktop. I have included a link to show you how to find the userfolder on the PC.

    Here is another link regarding data loss;
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=39503
The best way to backup your data is to use the export feature in Palm Desktop. Make a new folder on the PC desktop named Palm Desktop Backup data. Next, select the category you want to export. You will get a window that asks where you want to save the file, save in the folder created on the desktop. There is a button that allows you to select currently selected record or all, select all. If you don't select all, then only the record highlighted is exported. You will then need to name the file for export, I suggest the name of the category, eg: datebook (With current date). Do this for all critical data in each category. With the data exported to the folder on the PC desktop, you can save this data to a flash drive, external hard drive or a CD-RW. With this method you will have your data in a seperate place than Palm desktop and the device. If you "Lose" data again, you can import the data back into palm desktop.
Make sure that when you make changes in palm desktop or the device to export the data to the folder created for the backup.

  • How do I transfer data files (word, Quickbooks, pdf, etc.) to the ipad?

How do I transfer data files (word, Quickbooks, pdf, etc.) to the ipad for safe store and possible reading and manipulation of some key files (word and Pdf)?

You first need an app, or apps, that are capable of reading/storing, and possibly editting them - without the app(s) there is nowhere to copy them to. As to how you then get the files onto the iPad depends upon the app(s) that you are using : iBooks (free app which can store/read PDFs) is via iTunes and the Books section of your computer's iTunes library. Other apps can use the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab on your computer's iTunes, some apps have wifi capability so that you can copy to/from them via your wifi network, and you may also be able to transfer email attachments into the app.

You don't need conversion programs, iTunes can copy most of your content over to the iPad via the file sharing section, and some apps also support Dropbox, email attachments, transfer via your wifi network. There are a number of apps that you can get that support Microsoft office file (microsoft don't make an app versions of their software) e.g. from Apple there are Pages (word support), Numbers (excel) and Keynote (powerpoint), and from third-parties there are apps such as Documents To Go and QuickOffice HD

  • Location of iPhone sync data files or How to not have to re-install all my iPhone apps?

    Hi Folks,
I recently did a clean install of Lion on my MacBook Pro and I've chosen to not use Migration Assistant because I don't want to move over a bunch of cruft under my 4+ year old home directory (Tiger > Leopard > SL).  I've been very selective about the things I've moved over and all has gone well until I want to sync my iPhone.  I've transferred purchases from the iPhone but if I check Sync Apps, iTunes wants to wipe and re-install everything!  This wouldn't be a problem, except the time it would take to re-organize all my apps on the iPhone again.   (Side note: Please Apple, give us an "auto-organize" button for apps!)
Any idea how to move over my old sync data files to avoid having to nuke/reinstall my iPhone's apps?  Or is there another option to preserve how my apps are organizated?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Rob

Right Click the iPhone and click Transfer Purchases and then do the backup and restore from backup... That will transfer all your applications over to your computer and then organize them properly in their folders...
OK, that does make sense so I won't bother setting it up as a new phone.
Quick follow up question though, do I need to click the Sync Apps check box before I do a restore?  The reason I ask is that I've done a transfer purchases/backup/restore cycle but all the tabs (Apps, Music, Movies, etc.) do not have the sync check box checked following the restore as I would expect.  And when I go check the Sync Apps check box that's when it warns me "Are you sure you want to sync apps?  All existing apps and their data on the iPhone will be replaced with apps from this iTunes library."  That's when the apps then become unorganized.
Thanks so much for your continued help!

  • Unable to delete data files from my Ipod if used as data storage...

    Hello everybody
I bought months ago an Ipod Nano 8GB. I've got an issue when i use it as disk storage i'm not able to sort out. I've checked all the topics but i cannot find any solution.
Example: I use the Ipod with the option "Manually manage music and videos". I put audio and video files on my Ipod through Itunes, then i put also some files on my Ipod as normal data files through my Mac Finder (Easy, i drag VLC, JPG files etc. from folders to my Ipod). The Ipod/Itunes summary page shows (Correctly) the capacity column colored in blue (Audio), video (Purple) and orange (Data). No probs when i transfer data files to another computer.
Problem: when i delete the data files from my Ipod (Through finder) the orange column doesn't disappear (I have no problems if i delete audio/video files via Itunes) and although i've actually deleted all the files if i try to add some other data or videos/music files to my Ipod, Itunes says that there is no space available in my device. It's very strange, i check and double check all the options but eventually i have to restore my Ipod all the times and (Pretty annoying) add all my files again.
It seems that although i sent my files to the trash bin, Itunes (Fully updated) doesn't recognize the change.
It'd be great if someone can help me out as it's very important for me to be able to use my Ipod as disk storage, thanks a lot!

It seems that although i sent my files to the trash bin, Itunes (Fully updated) doesn't recognize the change.
Empty it from the Finder menu or by control-clicking it in the Dock.

  • How do I move data files from old iPhone? Specifically, the password files for the App mSecure from my old iPhone 3Gs to iPhone 4S?

How do I move data files for mSecure (a password saver app) from old iPhone 3GS to new iPhone 4S?

That article is about using your iPod as an external hard drive, to move files from one computer to another computer.  It is not related to your question.
You can't use iTunes to move song files from iPod to computer, except for songs you purchased from the iTunes Store (and you can also re-download purchases).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can move song files from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your current computer, add them to that computer's iTunes library by dragging the files (or folder containing the files) to the iTunes window.  After confirming everything is there (and fixing the data issue you mentioned) you can sync the iPod.  You may want to do a Restore on the iPod, if it might have a data corruption issue, which will erase the iPod's hard drive, re-install the latest software, and set it to defautl settings.
