Intensity Pro ?

Total newbie with CS5 so here goes....Running Windows 7 Bootcamp on a MacPro have the Intensity Pro Card installed with newest drivers it works fine with the Vegas Pro install but can't get it to display the CS5 output. It shows up as a Capture option (Blackmagic Capture) but not as a Video Rendering and Playback option.The Renderer is a ghosted out ( Mercury Playback Engine Software Only) And Playback settings show my secondary monitor which works nicely but I would prefer the Intensity Pro. Just want to play with some HDV files... they play nice on the secondary display monitor of course
I'm sure I'm missing something obvious ...any help would be appreciated.

Well I thought I had the latest drivers by who knew there was 3.7.2 Oh well... got 'em and all is still well on the Vegas Pro side but still nothing on the CS5 Premier side.
For the record it's working in After Effects just fine!!!
If you don't want to fool with me I'll understand....
Premier Project Settings show "Blackmagic Capture" and the properties are HD 1080i 59.94/Uncompressed 8bit if have also tried 1080p 29.97 among other presets just to see if that was the problem.
Playback Settings show: External Device- None,DV 29.97 720x480i, Monitor:2 1280x1024p (My second computer monitor)
Export External Devices are the same.
I would have thought Intensity would show up somewhere here in Playback settings as an optional device?
Once again the secondary monitor displays but nothing on the HDMI out of the Intensity or Component out.
The Blackmagic control panel is set for HDMI & Component out. All output and input processing is off.
As I said I'll understand if you don't want to fool with a goof but I'm at a loss to figure it out.

BlackMagic Intensity Pro for iMovie

I am interested if any one knows if the new Intensity Pro HDMI PCI card by Blackmagic can be used to capture video off my DVR so I can create DVD using iMovie and iDVD. I know the HDMI signal will probably have HDCP copywrite protection, but this card also supports analog Component video which comes out of my DVR. It is my understanding iMovie will need to have video in the DV format. In the product's manual it only talks about high end expensive video editing software like Apple Final Cut Pro, but I only need iMovie capabilities. The product does come with an application called Blackmagic Media Express but there is no documentation on it.
I do not want to go out and buy a $350 card and find out it does not work.

The problem is that once recorded to tape, the material is compressed to MPEG and there is no way to get the data back, that were lost during compression. The only thing you achieve is that you lose device control, lose all timecode information, lose all metadata like date and timestamp and exposure data and lose the capability of scene detection. There are no gains to compensate the losses.
Compare it to a glass of orange juice, that was made by heavily compressing oranges. How do you think you can reconstruct the original oranges that the juice came from? Were there 4 large oranges or 6 small ones or a mixture? Were they light colored or were they dark or a mixture of light and dark?
BlackMagic in their marketing may lead you to believe otherwise, but the truth is they can only guess at how many oranges were used, their size and color. It is nothing more than a guess.

Can I run a mxo2 mini and a BMD intensity pro on the same mac pro?

I have a strange question to you: Can I run a Matrox MXO2 mini and a Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro on the same Mac Pro?
That's because I find more versatile using a MXO2 with editing software (I have an AVID MC 5.5.3 and I don't want to update it to 6 yet) and I'd like to begin to use DaVinci Resolve from Blackmagic Design which, of course, functions only with their cards. My goal is to output Resolve to my FullHD CRT instrumental monitor without spending the money to upgrade AVID for now, I'm fine with 5.5.3.
I won't use them togheter but alternatively as you can easily imagine.

BlackMagic Intensity Pro Capture Card & (3) 1TB Internal Hard Drives

Hello,
This is my first time using BM Intensity Pro. Prior to tonight all I used was FW400 & iMovie/iDVD.
I have now upgraded to Final Cut Studio with a BM Intensity Pro Capture Card and Three 1TB Hard Drives (7200 RPM with 32MB cache) - Striped as a RAID set to create ONE 2.7 TB HD for Video Storage.
I have a few questions that I would like some help with.
I would like to capture at the highest video quality possible.
I'm worried that Hard Drives wont be able to handle the capture speed or file size?
I ran the BM Disk Speed Test. I'm just not sure what all these numbers mean?
Can someone please explain to me what the following information is telling me?
Do the results mean that I'm good to go with uncompressed HDV via HDMI?
The first is my OEM Mac Hard Drive. The second is my 3TB RAID set.

I would invest in an external RAID controller.
You can find a variety of such from AMUG in RAID5/6 that will support higher sustained thruput.

Black Magic Intensity Pro Play only Audio when edit in CS 5.5

Hi i have an problem, when i try to edit with Black Magic Intensity Pro in premiere CS5.5
i can play only Audio but not Video so i check settings on Premiere and control panel for
Black Magic Intensity and everything is OK and i check connections the preview is connect
via HDMI cacle and Composite Video/Audio and in both cases i get only Audio but no Video
so what is the problem? An driver for Black Magic Intensity Pro issue or what?

I have a Sony HDR-FX1 that records in HDV 1440 x 1080
I have already captured the footage to miniDV tape.
Can the intensity card get the full 1920 x 1080 video ?
I now use Premiere to capture my video and my HDV is in mpeg2 and my SD is in DV type 2 AVI
What format does the intensity card capture at ?
Are there other ways to capture that would make the footage better.
From what I have read allot of people have had problems with these cards.
Im just looking for the best way to get the footage off my camera with the best resolution.

What is the BEST cable connection from Canopus ADVC 300 to Black Magic Intensity Pro HDMI PCI Express Capture Card?

I must connect an ADVC 300 to a Black Magic Intensity Pro HDMI PCI Express Capture Card. For best quality, which cable should I use?
On the ADVC 300 there are outputs of firewire, S-VHS and RCA.
On BMPro it's a little confusing. On the breakout cable there are connectors that say:
-5 B-Y OUT
-4 Y OUT
-3-R-Y OUT
-7-R-Y IN
-8-Y IN
-9 B-Y IN
-15 AUDIO IN RIGHT
-10 AES/EBU OUT
-12 AUDIO LEFT OUT
-14 AUDIO LEFT OUT
-13 AUDIO RIGHT OUT
With the BMPro, there is also a separate, shorter cable. On one end it looks like S-VHS and on the other there are two connectors, one black and one blue.
On the actual BMPro Express card strip instead of using the breakout cable, there is HDMI IN (and HDMI OUT).
How should I connect this? Is there an adapter cable of FIREWIRE TO HDMI?
Any help is much appreciated.

Well, when I researched how best to digitize VHS (into Final Cut Pro 7), I learned two of the best devices to use are BMPro and Canopus ADVC 300. I’m using the ADVC 300 for the built-in time base corrector. I definitely want to use that to stabilize the video. I also read how well BMPro improves image quality. So, I thought to use the two together must produce outstanding quality (well, as good as VHS can be).
Perhaps I got confused into thinking I can use both. But the BMPro appears to have an S-VHS adapter.
I guess I’m wondering what is better quality:
Run the firewire from the Canopus ADVC 300 converter directly into the firewire port on the Mac Pro
Or, run an S-VHS cable from the Canopus ADVC 300 into the BMPro Capture card
(I should mention that I have purchased all these items and already have the BMPro Card installed so at this point it’s not a cost issue, but rather an issue of simply which works best?)

Matrox MXO or Blackmagic Intensity Pro?

I just bought the Dell 2408 monitor, which I like thus far, and am looking to use it as both a second computer monitor and also an NTSC preview monitor in conjunction with FCP. Playing via S-video on my DSR-11 looks positively terrible- so what's the best solution? Intensity Pro? Matrox?

The MXO/ACD combination isn't recommended for standard definition monitoring. It is only recommended for high definition. For SD ou can use the MXO in combination with an SD broadcast monitor...but the MXO/ACD is not a good solution for standard definition viewing.
Per the Vortex EX-1 video, they suggest editing in SD and then rendering later.
Rendering? You mean upconverting? I don't know how viable that workflow is when it comes to tapeless formats. Because they tend to only be importable at full resolution. The extra steps needed to make low res...edit...then reconnect to the full res, plus the drives you need to have both the low res and high res available is counter productive, IMHO.
Do what the others suggest...import and work at FULL HD resolution (XDCAM doesn't take up a lot of space, it is compressed HD). This way you can use your MXO and ACD to see a GREAT picture...and downconvert when you are done. The MXO does that on the fly.
The Spyder is unnecessary in combination with the MXO. The MXO has a utility to set your monitor up to bars, with a proper BLUE ONLY option. You can see how that is done in my review.

SpeedGrade 2014.2 will not send output via BlackMagic Intensity Pro HDMI to my external monitor.

I occasionally can get a few pixels near the left side of the monitor, and 2014.1 would display the lower half of the frame, but now, after the 2014.2 update, I can't even get that much. Premiere is monitoring perfectly. Any suggestions welcome!

I am having the same problem. I am on Speedgrade version 2014.1 currently and it won't output to either of the monitors I've tried. Both are connected via HDMI.
One is a 22' ASUS monitor, which reads "Out of Range" when I connect it to my blackmagic Intensity Pro output. From what I've read this has to do with the frame size coming out of SP being too large for the monitor.
Next I tried to output to a 50' HD TV. I don't get the "Out of Range" message on this one, instead the monitor is black with an occasional flicker when I hover over a clip or an option in Speedgrade. By flicker I mean the screen flashes a garbled purple mess for less than a second, then goes black again.
I'm running the Creative Cloud Suite on a Mid 2012 Mac Desktop with a 2 x 2.66 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon processor, 52GB of RAM, and ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB graphics card. OSX version 10.8.5.
Been waiting for this capability for a while, any advice would be much appreciated.

FCP capture problem with Blackmagic Intensity Pro

I just installed a Blackmagic Intensity Pro and I am having problems capturing in Final Cut Pro 6. I have a Sony VCR/DVD player with a HMDI out connection that works fine when connected to my TV. The video setting on the VCR/DVD are 720P. In FCP I have chosen the “Blackmagic HDTV Intensity Pro 720P 60 Uncompressed” capture/input setting. If I unplug the HDMI cable from the VCR/DVD and plug it back in I see the video for about 4 seconds and then just a gray screen. I have tried several video tapes all with the same results.
Any suggestions?

I am having the same problem. I edit reels and was trying to use the higher quality HDMI input to capture video from my DVD player for client's video reels.
I could be mistake, but I do 'recall' hearing that you cannot record HDMI video (copyright issues) but only play back HDMI. We may be stuck using component.
Intensity Pro's website only mentions recording HDMI video from a camcorder with an HDMI output.
Maybe someone will clear this up for us with a definite answer. I have put a request in to Blackmagic support and will let you know what they say.

EX1 to ProRes Blackmagic Intensity Pro?

Recently, I've worked in an XDCAM EX 1080i 50 timeline, then converted to SD with Compressor.
I understand it would have been better to work in ProRes and as I'm about to start a new project I've been searching around, but for the life of me I can't find any info on a workflow for this.
Do I import the BPAV files and wrap them using Clip Browser before converting to ProRes, or can I import footage directly from the camera +(via the Intensity Pro card)+ to ProRes without re-compressing?
Nearly all my footage is shot outdoors in a field.

then just choose Import/files/XDCAM
The question is really whether I can use the Intensity Pro card to import direct from the camera to ProRes without having to go to XDCAM first +(and thereby recompressing the footage)+.

Premiere pro CC14, Blackmagic Intensity Pro

Im in the process of changing from FCP ver7 using a BMD Intensity Pro card (lowest priced BMD device) to Ppr cc14. Would love to hear if anyone is using that card with Premiere Pro CC 14 and either running

wouldn't Premiere Pro limit your color bit depth to 8 and your BMD be capable of a larger bit depth?

Premiere crashing. Using Blackmagic Intensity Pro HDV sequence

Hi. I'm editing with Premiere. I'm using an intensity pro card(blackmagic design) with
Q4000 Nvidia Graphics card. It keeps crashing on me. More so with the HDV footage I'm editing.
I have included my computer specs as well as media info of my source footage and the sequence settings.
Any help with this would be much appreciated!!!

I checked your PSU based on your list of components and it gave me these results:
These figures are without any safety margin. I usually advise to add around 10% for safety. If I look at your PSU, it shows these data:
This tells me that your +5V rail may be a weak point because of the lacking amperage with this PSU and worth checking. Your system needs a combined wattage of nearly 190 W but delivers only 150 W on the +3.3 and +5V rails. This also shows that it will be hard to make this a more balanced system with better disk I/O, because the wattage is just not enough to add a dedicated raid controller and some more disks. I would not be surprised if the PSU is the culprit here, but let your IT guy check this out. And let him carefully check the temps of CPU, mobo and GPU, both idle and under load.
A good disk setup for a balanced system with such a powerful CPU would be something like described in the 'Warrior' system here: Adobe Forums: What PC to build? An update...

Soundtrack Pro with Blackmagic Intensity Pro Card

Just wondering if anyone was using STP with the Blackmagic Intensity Pro card to monitor video on a TV?
If so, whta are your experiences and especially does STP allow you to continue using your selected audio device (MOTU Ultralite over Firewire for me) while viewing your Quicktimes on the TV.

Thanks for getting back so quick! No, I've checked the audio/midi and the default audio device is my MOTU Ultralite firewire interface - even when the default output is set to the mac's internal speaker, once you select the external video it mutes the output.
I can still see levels withing STP as if the audio is playing. There is an official Apple Support document about audio not working when you are using external video to firewire and it says that it is a bug that can be bypassed by setting your bus to surround (1-6) instead of stereo (1-2) but this has no effect for me )-:
Would love to know if it works for you! and if so, what way you have things configured

Premiere Pro with Blackmagic Intensity Pro; Importer

I'm using a Blackmagic Intensity Pro with Premiere Pro. I don't Import anything with it directly, i just use it to preview my timeline on a seperate monitor.
The issue I have is when I try to import a AVI-file to my project
before I had the Intensity Pro, Premiere would input the file as a Microsoft AVI and it worked perfectly.
But now the exact same file is imported as a Blackmagic AVI-file. now I am experiencing green bars in my video and the color information is totally screwed up.
So my question is: can I deactivate or change the Import-settings of Premiere, without to remove the Card completely (turn PC off, remove card, turn back on...)?

I've tried importing the video file at a friend's pc with premiere pro 5.5 and there the file works just fine. so I'm assuming that it has to do with the intensity pro...
It has the same properties execpt under Type there is "Microsoft AVI File" and everything beneath Pixel Aspect Ratio isn't there.

Premiere pro CC + Blackmagic Intensity Pro unusable!

Here we go again, as soon as Premiere pro CC loads the speakers start crackling and the audio for the whole system becomes unmanageble, have to restart computer.
So basicaly I can't use PPr CC. Just to let you know, I'm not gonna waist any time on this right now, PPr cs6 is working fine with the Intensity pro.
I output my audio through the intensity pro for everything
updated Blackmagic drivers, repaired persmision, etc...

Yes, at the OS level I have in the Sound output tab Blackmagic Audio. I see two new audio devices, Prelude 2.0 and Premiere Pro 7.0
In Premiere I have BlackMagic Audio Selected.
When I open Premiere CC the audio goes crazy as soon as the welcome screen kicks in, so I don't think is a media issue, the audio output are just clicks and pops and basically I have to restart the computer.
The weird things is that I think I just discovered some bug. It was also happening with Prelude CC (audio clicks and pops, have to restart). Now, if I open PPro CC the audio still goes crazy, but, if I also open Prelude CC and open a clip, the clicks and pops stop and I'm able to hear the audio playback.
I've had this set up for many years now, and have been able to use it fine since moving to Premiere like 2 years ago.
I hope this helps, please let me know how to help correct this.
