I am working on an InDesign plugin that is perfectly working on Windows and Mac(Leopard, Snow leopard & Lion). Now, when I'm using this plugin on Mountain Lion, InDesign crashes whenever Don'tShowAgain warning dialog comes up.
Can anyone help me out what can be the reason of crash on Mountain Lion.

IMac CPU3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8GB, Extremely slow and repeatedly "out of Memory" since migration from Mountain Lion to Mavericks

Dear Apple Support Community.
As mentioned by a number of users reporting the same problem, my 2009 iMac CPU3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8GB RAM, has become extremely slow and repeatedly "out of Memory" since it was migrated from Mountain Lion to Mavericks (OS 10.9 then OS 10.9.1).
I have already run CleanMyMac, deleted 5GB of useless stuffs, which did not translate into any improvement. Following the advices collected in other Apple Support Community threads, I have applied EtreCheck the outcome of which is provided below.
For information, I have also upgraded my 2011 MacBook CPU2.3 GHz Core i7, 8GB which became only a bit slower than before, sometimes freezing which it almost never did before. However, I am used to the fact that Mac get usually slower and more prompt fo freeze after upgrading to a more recent OS.
Both my 2009 iMac and my 2011 MacBook have F-Secure installed. So the problem with the 2009 IMac is unlikly to be due to the presence of F-Secure. Interestingly, the few abnormalities found by Etrecheck were exacly identical before I ran CleanMyMac. There are two more findings (mentioned below) since I ran CleanMyMac on the 2009 iMac, which again didn't improve the problem.

Practically:
The iMac can work slowly with only one software e.g. either Mail or Safari or Firefox, but still the below "out of Memory" message occurs about every 3 minutes.
Aperture has becomre to slow to be useable
If trying to write a mail (with Mail) while Safari or Firefox is open, then the "out of Memory" message occurs about every 20 seconds so I need to check on "Resume" several times per minute.
Conclusions
From the above, unless anyone in the Apple Support Community proves to be able to identify a specific problem leading to a way to find a cure, I tend to conclude that Mavericks is not suitable for computers operating with a Core 2 Duo CPU even with a 8GB of RAM.
Unless I missed something, I did not see any warning from Apple Computer Inc. informing their customers they should refrain from upgrading Core 2 Duo Computers.
The only solution I see so far is to downgrade from Mavericks to Mountain Lion. And the Apple Support Community would confirm that it is the only solution, I would appreciate to get your guidance on how to proceed.
Intended action plan
Migrate the above 2009 iMac to a 2014 Mac Mini Server operating on Mavericks to ensure that no data may be lost while downgrading to Montain Lion.
Provided the above downgrading operation is successful, assign this 2009 iMac to partial retirement e.g. Mail, Skype, iTunes and DVD player.
In advance, I would like to thank the Apple Community for helping me either i) finding a cure to the problem, ii) or confirming that Mavericks cannot operate properly on Core 2 Duo computers, iii) and in such a case, guiding me on how to downgrade to Mountain Lion.

Use what is already included with OS X. It already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "speed up", "clean up", "optimize", or "accelerate" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources. Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iTunes or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Disable Java in Safari > Preferences > Security.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
Block browser popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > and check "Block popup windows":
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but popups have devolved to become a common means to deliver targeted advertising that you probably do not want.

If you ever see a popup indicating it detected registry errors, that your Mac is infected with some ick, or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. To date, most of these attempts have been pathetic and are easily recognized, but that is likely to change in the future as criminals become more clever.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

Parental Controls bug in Mountain Lion 10.8.2

For years I've used Parental Controls, not to restrict my daughter's web content, but to limit her time on the computer. But tonight I upgraded Mountain Lion from 10.8.1 to 10.8.2 and something broke.
Suddenly every secure web page she tries to access (to include google, gmail, amazon, etc.) fails. It says "Parental controls restricts access to secure websites".
A little hunting around turned up the following Apple Knowledge Base article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2900 that says "https note: For websites that use SSL encryption (the URL will usually begin with https), the Internet content filter is unable to examine the encrypted content of the page. For this reason, encrypted websites must be explicitly allowed using the Always Allow list. Encrypted websites that are not on the Always Allow list will be blocked by the automatic Internet content filter."
I understand that logic however that should NOT apply to me since I'm not trying to automatically restrict her adult web content or create allowed/blocked site lists, etc. She has *unrestricted* web site access, so the Internet content filter shouldn't even be in play here.
Just to get this up and running, I did type the Admin account and password in at the prompt to let her gain access to the web pages. However that did not work. Even though it said it would now allow access - it did not.
I also tried going into Parental Controls, turning ON web site filtering, going into Custom, and adding in approved secure web sites (google, etc.) Even *that* did not work.
Everything was great until 10.8.2 came along but now her account is for all intents and purposes unusable.

Same problem here. Apple seems to be neglecting the parental controls. First, they broke X11: http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/ticket/439. 10.8.1 didn't address that problem. Not only does 10.8.2 not address the X11 bug, it actually breaks secure web browsing!
Just to add a little more information, secure browsing on Safari seems to work OK for me once authorized. However, neither Firefox nor Chrome work with any secure site even after they have been authorized. Unfortunately, my daughter's school site is secure and it doesn't work on Safari so her Mac is useless for school now.
Looks like I'll have to restore using Time Machine and not update again until I know this has been addressed.
Apple, I'm not impressed.

Purchased Mountain Lion about a week ago and still cannot redeem it from Apple Store. Getting a "please try again later" error?

I have Lion. I have software that is not yet ready for Yosemite and I need to download video editing software that will only run on Mountain Lion and above. With this in mind, I purchased Mountain Lion online LAST WEEK. I received the secure email/pdf and tried to redeem it from Apple Store. I keep getting this message: "This item is being modified. Please try again later". That was about 6 DAYS AGO. I gave it some time and tried today and I am still getting this message.
What is going on? Called customer service and got disconnected twice (I don't think intentionally though). The third person had more info on this and it seems that Apple is just finding out about this and it may be related to the Watch rollout. Why don't Apple people say something? I check online and my order says "complete" but I have not received what I paid for and there's an error occurring. Now I am just here waiting to see if and when I can get this software.
Can someone provide more info on this? Is there another way to get Mountain Lion? Is it available on disc?
Without the OS upgrade I cannot use the video editing software.

Timecapsule shows two disks after mountain lion upgrade?

I have a TimeCapsule, which has been doing a good job wirelessly backing up my Macbook.
I recently upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion and have noticed that time machine now shows me as having two disks:
I know that after the upgrade Time Machine seemed to be intent on performing a full backup. Does this mean that in effect it created a new drive on the TimeCapsule? If so, what will happen to the old disk? Will it ever be deleted? Or if not, how do I eventually remove it without losing my more recent backups?
And is there any way for me to rename the old disk? As you can see from the two screenshots, it isn't particularly obvious which one is which.

Ah, this may be expected functionality that has changed in Mountain Lion. I gather that it's to do with 'rotating backups'. These are described by Pondini here - http://pondini.org/TM/34.html - and appears to show the same display.
The thing that isn't entirely clear is that this window shows both the current backup disks and all available backup discs, even if in use. To quote Pondini: "(Oddly, already-selected disks appear in both sections.)"

HT4854 Mac App store won't let me re-download Mountain Lion on a Late 2012 Mac mini, says computer is incompatible.

I have a brand new late-2012 Mac mini running 10.8.2. I'm trying to re-download ML from the App Store to create a bootable USB recovery key just in case. I'm being told that I can't DL Mountain Lion because my computer isn't compatible. How can that be?!
Part of the reason I want this key is the fact that I just jumped through 5,000 hoops to recover Mid-2011 MacBook Air from the recovery partition. The installation kept giving me an error. EXTREMELY annoying. I had no key. It set me back a few days. I don't want this problem to happen again.
I have a valid purchase, I own the software, I should be able to download it, period.

If I follow the advice of the fellow above and download the installer via Internet Recovery, I'm not going to be given access to the installer for the sake of making my key—or will I? At want point in that workflow will I have the opportunity to boot to back into my already working OS (on the 2012 mini) in order to do what I need to do?
I have access to a most recent release (2012) 13" MacBook Air (FWIW, the 2011 MacBook Air in question above happens to be an 11"). Am I likely to run into the same problem as with the 2012 Mac mini, where the version in the App Store still hasn't been "synced"?
Unbelievably annoying. Worse still is while I'm stuck in self-help purgatory, if something were to happen the recommendation would be to visit the Genius Bar. It's not a bad service, but why should I have to rely on it if I'm perfectly capable of taking care of everything myself provided the correct tools are at hand?
Incidentally, what happened with the 2011 MacBook Air is that the stock hard drive was formatted prior to sale. The recovery partition was left intact. I used it to begin the reinstallation of the OS. It was working fine until I realized I didn't have enough time at the moment to continue to download the required assets. The computer needed to be transported 200 miles away and time was of the essence.
I cancelled the installation with the intention of revisiting it when I got to my destination. When I did so, even after freshly formatting the drive again in Disk Utility, I got an error right as the download began. No amount of tries made a difference. Same error. The only thing that will work, obviously, is a USB key or the equivalent with the installation files pre-downloaded—unless someone here has some other insight.

I recently bought a macbook air and received the free upgrade to mountain lion. Will i be able to just simply go to my app store account on another macbook (macbook pro snow leopard) and upgrade that to mountain lion as well?

Not to muddy the waters but according to the license agreement here: http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/OSX108.pdf, Apple distinguishes between a "Preinstalled and Single-Copy Apple Software License" and a "Mac App Store License." The Preinstalled license limits use of the installer to one copy on one Apple-branded computer. The Mac App Store License allows the installation of "one (1) copy of the Apple Software directly on each Apple-branded computer running OS X Lion or OS X Snow Leopard (“Mac Computer”) that you own or control." Since in either case, the free upgrade is going to be coming from the Mac App Store it would seem that the Mac App Store License applies. But since the intent of the free upgrade is to serve as an inducement to buy a computer with a soon to be replaced OS by offering a free upgrade of the OS preinstalled on the purchased computer, perhaps it is covered by the Preinstalled wording. The Terms and Conditions of the upgrade program are unclear on that but maybe it becomes a matter of how the content code that's issued works. If the content code can be used more than once with your Mac App Store account or if the Mountain Lion installer appears as available for installation when you log into your Mac App Store account on a Mac different from the one that qualified you for the upgrade, then it would seem that the Mac App Store License is what applies here. Of course I'm no lawyer; if I was, I'm sure it would be even more complicated.

New late 2012 iMac with Mountain Lion - won't open Reader Library

Everything transferred from my old iMac (2009) to my new iMav (late 2012), except for the READER LIBRARY. It won't open on the desktop, and it won't open or recognize my Sony e-reader.

I'm about to attempt the same thing -- migrate everything from my old iMac (running 10.6.8) to a brand-new iMac (running Mountain Lion).
Still using FCP7, with no intention of switching to FCP X.
Should Migration Assistant work for me? Would updating my old iMac to Mountain Lion first make a difference? (I've already purchased it for my laptop, just haven't used it on my iMac).

Problem when stopping scrolling in Safari 6.0, Mountain Lion

I have an early 2011 Macbook Pro, which I bought recently as a refurbished model from Apple directly a couple of months ago.
It has been excellent, however since I updated to Mountain Lion, My Safari has been acting strange.
If I scroll a website using the trackpad, and stop the scroll suddently using the trackpad, before the screen comes to a halt, I get a strange 'shuddering' or 'wobble' effect on the screen for a split second, that is very annoying, and I am sure it's not intentional.
Does anyone know what this could be?

SOLVED:
For what its's worth if anyone has this problem, the issue was with another program I had open called 'Magician File' which is file explorer type app, when it was loaded, it was causing my scrolling issues with Safari for some reason. Thanks.

Please use the Export as HTML feature to export the site to an _empty_ local folder. I'm confident the anchor links will work fine on that locally exported version.
The challenge is the files being generated by Muse are not what's on your server. If you upload the complete contents of the local export folder to a new subfolder on your server, all will work fine (assuming all the files and folders make it to the server).
I'm baffled as to why Upload to FTP Host would apparently fail with no error messages, if the Upload: All Files option was specified and the target FTP server and directory/folder were correct...
When you manually upload, what FTP client are you using?

TS1550 Time Machine issue with Mountain Lion. Can you help?

I have an Iomega Mac Companion used as an external backup drive for my Imac running Mountain Lion. After launching Time Machine, I got an error message that said the backup couldn't' be completed because an error occurred while creating the backup folder. I rebooted and everything was fine for 24 hours. Since then, I get the same error message even after another reboot. In Time Machine preferences it says "oldest backup none" and "latest backup none."
Any suggestions?

Finally have it solved!! Sort of... I spoke with Mac support on two occasions and they were extremely helpful. Thought the issue was with the firewire 800 connection. Switched to a USB connection and everything worked great...for about 24 hours. Then had the same error messages. Chatted with Iomega tech support and they finally admitted that there are known issues with Mountain Lion, there is no work around and they have no intention of making it compatible with 10.8.
I'm returning the drive today. Thanks for your help and suggestions. Suggestions for a decent back up hard drive that will work with Mountain Lion?

Scrabble vs Mountain Lion

Scrabble 1.0.1.4 from Game House doesn't work with mountain lion as of 28July12 - any solutions?

Sorry, I don't have a solution for your version of Scrabble, but I am playing Scrabble on both Lion (10.7) and Mountain Lion (10.8), or something really close to it, called WordFeud (I'm not sure how they got away with copying Scrabble so closely - for all intents and purposes, you could call it Scrabble.)
But, as far as I know, WordFeud does not have a Mac version. Instead I play it as an Android game inside the BlueStacks App Player, an Android emulator (which is just like running Windows Apps on the Parallels Windows emulator.)
The free version of WordFeud comes as an already installed app within BlueStacks (or, at least it did when I downloaded it last.) And, as of this writing, the BlueStacks App Player is in public beta and also free.
I've since, inside the emulator, paid for a $2.99 version of WordFeud at the Amazon App Store on both my 10.7 and 10.8 machines, and enjoy playing it often - there are a few bugs in the beta version of the emulator, but they are minor with regard to WordFeud (though there has recently been a pesky recuring notice to install "1-click-apps" or some such thing from Google, that you have to dismiss occasionally, which you might find annoying - even for the pay version of WordFeud.)

Incorrect password for mountain lion pdf

Sorry, I'm french so i don't speak english very well.
My problem is : i can't open the pdf withe the code because it tell me that the password is incorrect. Someone has an idea or is in the same case.

You're not alone. Apple technical support tells me their server is under pressure because so many people are trying to download Mountain Lion today -- I'm one of them. They suggest first shutting down the entire computer. Then restart and go back to the Apple email where the PDF is located. TYPE in (do not copy) the password you have been sent. They say that some systems' security systems have an intentional foil that stops the copying in of passwords.
They tell me what is outlined above has worked for a good number of people who have called today with the same problem. It didn't work for me, most likely because of their server issues, they think. They suggest retrying from time to time. In my case, they will also call me back in a few hours to see how this has gone.
