Inter-Controller and Inter-Subnet Roaming between WLC 4402 and 5508?

Hi!
Will it support roaming between WLC 5508 ver. 7.0 and WLC 4402 ver. 4.2?

Here is the matrix for support of IRCM, but the answer is yes.

  • Differences Between WLC 2000 and 4400 series

    Besides the supported number of access points, what are the differences in features between the WLC 2000 and 4400 series?

    On the 2006, you have 4 ports on the back, that can support up to 3 AP's being directly connected, and the other port as your connection to the network, and it does not support LAG (Link AGgregation). The ports are 10/100M, and it can not be an anchor for a mobility group.
    On the 4400, you either have a 4402 or a 4404,the 2 has 2 Gig interfaces, and the 4404 has 4 Gig interfaces, you can not connect AP's directly to a 4400. Both 4400's will support LAG, and they can be used as anchors in a mobility group. Those are the big differences in them. They configure up the same, and interact with the wired and wireless networks the same.

  • Diifference between WLC 2100 and 4400 and 5500

    Hi
    what is the difference between wire lan controllers(WLAN) 2100 and 4400 and 5500.

    Hello syed
    Cisco 5500 Series Controllers:
    The Cisco 5500 Series Wireless LAN Controller is currently available in one model: 5508. The 5508 controller supports up to 250 lightweight access points and 7000 wireless clients (or 5000 wireless clients and 2500 RFID tags when using the client location feature), making it ideal for large enterprises and high-density applications.
    Cisco 4400 Series Controllers:
    Because the Cisco 4400 Series Wireless LAN Controller supports 802.11a/b/g and the IEEE 802.11n draft 2.0 standard, organizations can deploy the solution that best meets their individual requirements. Organizations can offer robust coverage with 802.11 a/b/g or deliver greater performance with 5x the throughput and unprecedented reliability using 802.11n and Cisco's Next-Generation Wireless Solutions and Cisco Enterprise Wireless Mesh.
    The Cisco 4400 Series Wireless LAN Controller is available in two models. The Cisco 4402 Wireless LAN Controller with two 1 GB Ethernet ports comes in configurations that support 12, 25, and 50 access points. The Cisco 4404 Wireless LAN Controller with four 1 GB Ethernet ports supports 100 access points. The Cisco 4402 controller provides one expansion slot. The Cisco 4404 controller provides two expansion slots that can be used to add VPN termination.
    Cisco 2100 Series Controllers:
    These controllers are part of a Payment Card Industry (PCI) certified architecture, and are well suited for retail customers who deploy transactional data applications such as scanners and kiosks. With performance up to 100 Mbps, the Cisco 2100 Series Wireless LAN Controllers also enable small and medium branch offices to deploy collaboration applications such as guest access and mobile voice.

  • WLC 4402 and LAP1252

    Hi,
    I have a WLC4402 and have been able to associate a LAP1252 with it. I have a WLAN (SSID Test1) on the same subnet as the management interface. Test1 is associated with the management interface and clients are able join that WLAN and obtain an IP address from the scope for the management VLAN 10.
    I created a dynamic interface called HRINT with VLAN 20, created a second WLAN called HR and associated it with the HRINT. I have a scope for the HR WLAN, but not able to obtain an IP address.
    my switchport on the Cisco switch is trunking and allowing the vlan for the management and HRINT. I also noticed when i use the WLC GUI to view the dynamic interface HRINT created it says disable, is this normal? Why am I not able to obtain an IP address from the new WLAN created.
    Have been banging my head for two days :-)

    The interface showing disabled is most likely under the dynamic AP management column which is what you want to see for a dynamic interface.
    Where is your DHCP server, on the controller, switch, router, external server?
    Can the controller ping the default gateway of the dynamic interface?

  • Wlc 4402 and 1010 Aps

    Hi,
    I have 2 vlans (wired-side) in my corporation: the first one for Data (vlan 1, native) and the second one for voice (vlan 2). We've just get a wlc 4402 with 1010 Aps and I would like to know one thing:
    Could I create 2 Ssids(one for voice and another for Data) and map each one to its wired Vlan?.
    Does the 1010 Ap support 802.1q?
    Thanks in advance for your help

    The 1010 aps connect to the switches as hosts
    (switchport mode access; switchport access vlan ...)
    The controller has 2 ports that connect to the network as trunks. You can connect them as port 1 and 2, or put them in a lag group [aka etherchannel)
    All the vlan trunking is done at the controller port to switch port. The AP sends the info down to the controller over the vlan specified for the aps
    In your case, you should create another vlan for the APS.
    The 4402 controller mgmt interface would sit in the same vlan as the APs. You would then create dynamic interfaces on the controller that have a vlan id and ip address for the desired network per your needs. You would then create a wlan on the controller and then bind it to the dynamic interface you just created.
    I am oversimplfying this process quite a bit, but it should get you started. There is now a good bit of info on cisco.com for the wireless products

  • My iPad mini with OS 7.1.2 suddenly will engage in uncontrolled actions such as opening and closing pages, switching between apps, expanding and minimizing pages etc... uncontrollably and I have to shut the mini down to stop the uncontrolled actions

    My iPad Mini #1 with OS 7.1.2 began uncontrolled actions recently.  While reading a book in 3M Cloud App the pages would expand and then minimize on their own and then the uncontrolled action would open other apps and do the same by uncontrollably expanding and minimizing different pages in that app and then the actions would move on to another App and open it and expand and minimize pages and open different pages etc . . .  Initially I thought the problem was connected to the 3M Cloud Library App so I deleted it on my Mini iPad and also in iTunes on my iMac and downloaded a fresh app to install on my Mini.  However, that did not affect the problem.    The uncontrolled actions start in any app and begin every time I open my Mini to the point it is becoming useless.  Please help as I don't have a clue as to the cause of the problem or how to go about fixing it.

    If this is still happening have you contacted APPLE support with the problem (same question to other posters).
    If it is always after a certain length of time with active use - it may be overheating causing wear and tear on internal components.
    Or - a bug in the software is causing sudden replay of what you just did.
    Had similar issue with work owned IBM think Pad due to age and use in office area that was warm (not my choice) - it behaved as though the track mouse or keyboard was stuck - repeating same single character - open/close folders- would have to do quick shut down by pulling the pad out of dock and pulling the battery out -- solution - was to get new lap top after PC techs cleaned it and it still happened.

  • Migration from WLC 4402 to 5508

    Hello Forum;
    I'm trying to migrate from a WLC 4402 to a 5508. I've uploaded the config from the 4402 and then downloaded it to the 5508. I'm able to get to the GUI but my clients are unable to connect. I've tried pinging from the clients with no luck. The APs connect to the 5508. I noticed that the ap-manager interface is not available for the 5508.
    Has anyone had similar issues?
    Sean

    Yes its expected, coz we do not have AP manager on the 5508 WLC.. Clients are unable to connect is the concern..
    Whats the WLAN?? are they enabled?? if yes, then when the client tries to connect, then wats the Policy manager state they get stuck in?? can u please run the below debug and paste it here??

    Looking forward to hear from you!!

  • Roaming between WLC and vWLC on different code versions

    Hi,
    I have the following setup in our environment, a HA 5508 pair running 7.4.100 and a vWLC running 7.6.130.  I have mobility setup between the two with the control and data path up and running.  All the access points are setup for FlexConnect.
    When I join an SSID using PSK on an AP associated with the vWLC and then roam to an AP on the 5508, I drop a few pings but stay connected no problem.  However when I join an SSID using PEAP (both WLC's using Radius to Cisco ISE 1.2 for this) and repeat the test, my client actually drops my wireless connection and then rejoins.
    Is this expected behaviour when running controllers on different versions?  This is only temporary until I upgrade the 5508 pair.
    Cheers
    Brian

    Oh... Forgot.  With FlexConnect, you also want to create FlexConnect Groups.  See this link:

  • WLC 4402 and 1000 series APs

    I just want to ask if this is possible:
    Certain group of APs will advertise a
    specific SSID which will not be advertised
    by other APs.
    thanks,

    Hi Raul,
    This is probably the feature that can help with this requirement;
    Have a look at this info;
    Enabling WLAN Override
    By default, access points transmit all defined WLANs on the controller. However, you can use the WLAN Override option to select which WLANs are transmitted and which ones are not on a per access point basis. For example, you can use WLAN override to control where in the network the guest WLAN is transmitted or you can use it to disable a specific WLAN in a certain area of the network.
    From this doc;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6366/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a008076cbfd.html#wp1114777
    Once you create a new WLAN, the WLAN > Edit page for the new WLAN appears. In this page you can define various parameters specific to this WLAN including General Policies, RADIUS Servers, Security Policies, and 802.1x Parameters.
    **Check Admin Status under General Policies to enable the WLAN. If you want the AP to broadcast the SSID in its beacon frames, check Broadcast SSID.
    Note: You can configure up to sixteen WLANs on the controller. The Cisco WLAN Solution can control up to sixteen WLANs for Lightweight APs. Each WLAN has a separate WLAN ID (1 through 16), a separate WLAN SSID (WLAN name), and can be assigned unique security policies. Lightweight APs broadcast all active Cisco WLAN Solution WLAN SSIDs and enforce the policies that you define for each WLAN.
    From this good doc;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_configuration_example09186a0080665d18.shtml#c3
    Hope this helps!

  • WLC 4402 and SNMP values

    Hi all,
    I need to change via SNMP v2C the value of the PSK for WPA/WPA2 for a specific SSID.
    How can do that ?
    Tnx a lot for an answer

    The method I have used is;
    snmpwalk -c -v 2c enterprises.9.9.512.1.1.1.1.4
    This will return an index list of the SSID's that you have defined on the controller. Ie;
    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.512.1.1.1.1.4.1 = STRING: "Widget Inc."
    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.512.1.1.1.1.4.2 = STRING: "Guest"
    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.512.1.1.1.1.4.3 = STRING: "Lab"
    Then, set the PSK of the SSID based on the index value (the last number in the OID) ;
    ie.
    snmpset -c -v 2c enterprises.9.9.521.1.1.1.1.7.x i 3 enterprises.9.9.521.1.1.1.1.8.x string
    where x is the index value.
    So, for example to set the Guest SSID for controler 10.10.1.1;
    snmpwalk -c -v 2c 10.10.1.1 enterprises.9.9.512.1.1.1.1.4
    returns;
    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.512.1.1.1.1.4.1 = STRING: "Widget Inc."
    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.512.1.1.1.1.4.2 = STRING: "Guest"
    2 is the index value for the Guest SSID.
    To set the PSK to 0011001100 (not recommeneded!) then;
    snmpset -c -v 2c 10.10.1.1 enterprises.9.9.521.1.1.1.1.7.2 i 3 enterprises.9.9.521.1.1.1.1.8.2 string 0011001100
    I hope that explains it easily enough.
    If anyone can find a way of reading back the PSK once set, I'd be grateful! I haven't been able to do that yet!
