Interactions with transparency?

Hello,
A few parts to this...
1. Is it possible to make the stock CP7 interactions use transparent backgrounds and/or headers? None of the themes, nor what I seem to be able to do with custom themes, even remotely fits in with my templates. I can't figure out how to keep the core functionality but make it integrate a lot more seamlessly... otherwise these are all unusable for us.
2. If it's not possible, do we know if this is coming in the future? How are others using these if customization is virtually impossible?
3. Is anybody giving away / selling widgets that do similar things, but with much greater control and/or more logical default settings? Is the need for transparency or some slider for opacity really that unique of a thing?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
- KC

I'm afraid the stock interactions are what they are.  If you don't like the way they work or the extent to which they are customizable you need to submit an enhancement request to Adobe and wait in line.  At the moment, most enhancements to these interactions have been focused on fixing bugs, especially ones that prevented the interactions from working as expected in HTML5 output.
Many of these interactions were added because users like ourselves asked for them (and because Articulate Storyline came out with similar ones that proved very popular).
Adobe doesn't usually give out definitive information about "what's coming in the future".
To my knowledge, though there are some widgets for sale that do similar things to some of these interactions (e.g. Cp Guru's excellent Youtube and Vimeo widgets), most widget developers have found Captivate widgets to be an unprofitable use of their time.  So there's very little chance they would see much point in pouring weeks of development time into creating higher-end versions of widgets that Adobe gives away already with their app.

  • Problems with transparency in interactive PDFs

Hi, I am creating a 40pp document in InDesign CS6. The document is created as CMYK and will be issued as a printed piece but also there is an interactive version. For revision control purposes, I have created one document for both purposes, and have created the interactivity (internal navigation as well as hyperlinks to external URLs). The interactive buttons are on a separate layer so that layer can be suppressed when output for press.
The printed piece exports just fine using Pass4Press settings.
However, when I export as an interactive PDF, I find that each page seems to render differently, despite being based on the same master page items.
I have tried everything – changing the transparency blend space from RGB to CMYK (and vice versa).
This is causing me a real headache as my client won't accept this and I have tried pretty much everything. There is very little to adjust in the interactive PDF settings.
The document has a photographic strip along the top of each page (master item). On top of this are coloured blocks with text in them with the name of each section. The blocks are set to "colour" mode, (except when that is the current section, when they become "normal"). This is all done on the master, yet each page renders differently despite it being the same master with no page over-rides on the items in question.
I tried exporting back to .IDML and using the export functions of CS4 and CS5.5. This solved the transparency issue, but caused a whole range of other problems such as text reflow, shifting images and incorrectly assigned button actions/bookmarks, so the problem would seem to be the CS6 interactive PDF transparency handling. Using an earlier version of InDesign clearly isn't a solution.
    Can anyone help please?!!

Hi, and thanks for your help. That would be a bit of a faff, as I have set the whole doc up for export as a Pass4Press compliant document for professional print. However, the client also wants a navigable PDF created from the same doc. Because of the length of the document, I don't want to have two source docs, as that would be a revision control nightmare.
However, I've been playing around with the master pages, as it is items from the masters that are being rendered inconsistently. It seems odd that one master can be rendered differently on various non-overridden pages.
Guess what? I just tried disassociating the items from the masters (Override All Master Page Items) and tried again. Now, although I now have lost the benefit of using master pages, it does actually render properly and consistently now! Go figure. Must be one of those freaky little bugs. It would be cool if this could be fixed, but at least overriding masters seems to be a workaround.
Hopefully, my document is approved, and I can export the final Press PDF, save the doc, Override All Master Page Items, export the interactive PDF and not save with the disassociated masters…
Thanks for all advice and hopefully this will help someone else, or trigger one of the devs to look into this odd bug.

  • Interaction with Content behind Transparent Flex App

    Hi,
I have a Flex application with wmode=transparent and a transparent section that allows whatever is underneath it on the HTML page to show through.  In this case, what's showing through is another Flash application.  This works fine, but I can't interact with the Flash application showing through.
I tried setting the z-index of the Flash app to something greater than my Flex app, and that worked, but unfortunately that solution doesn't work for my case because the Flex application has components that occasionally overlay in that area, and setting the z-index of the Flash app to be higher means those components are always stuck behind it.  Also unfortunately I don't control the loading of that Flash app, so I can't load/embed it into my app to get around this problem.
Are there any other ways to do this?
    Cheers,
    Karthik

    UPDATE:
So, I spent an entire work-day on trying to get this to
work.... I finally ended up hacking the flex html filter library to
display the formatted text as best as I could. It basically created
a bunch of "<textformat>" tags. There were still a few
layout/indentation issues. So, I tested it, and deployed to our
test website, and got approval from one of the managers. Then, I
come in this morning, and the all my work is gone. "Did I deploy
the files to right server? I know I tested it last night....", I
asked myself. The dates on the files were from last night. Odd. So
I ask my supervisor if I was looking at the correct website for the
server where I deployed the files.... "Oh yeah", he said, "I had to
roll that back, because [the manager who gave me the content]
didn't like how it looked." Nevermind that the files included other
changes as well (it was a nightly build, the source control for the
source files are done through a different source control program on
a different server), so now the whole thing looks screwed up.
Oh well.... I really need a blog to complain about this....
    Thanks everyone for your help.

  • Interactive Wineglass Transparency Tool

There's a tool in Corel PHOTO-PAINT called the wineglass tool or interactive wineglass transparency tool, which I use religiously! It's extremely useful for quick and accurate gradient transparency (e.g. radial, linear, etc.).
The tool allows you to create an interactive transparency gradient on a layer by clicking and dragging the wineglass tool to define where this gradient transparency starts (opaque) and ends (transparent). You can also specify the midpoint (50% opaque).
In Photoshop, it would be great if this tool were not only implemented, but if it created or modified the layer mask in the process so it doesn't destroy the layer's information. I suppose it might even be better if it were a separate layer effect or something that didn't combine with the layer mask. I'll let your minds consider the best implementation.
To do the same in Photoshop would take way too many steps in comparison! For example, you could (1) create a layer mask, (2) select the brush tool, (3) increase the brush size, (4) hold down SHIFT for linear contraint and (5) stroke the layer mask. That's a lot of steps! Also, it's not 100% accurate in most cases. That is, I tried it just now and the brush gave it a splotchy look. In PHOTO-PAINT it would go like this: (1) select the wineglass tool, (2) click and drag where it starts and ends and (3) hit enter to apply the effect. I think you can also double-click or right-click >> apply to complete the tool.
    Thanks for listening

Excellent question! It's hard to explain this tool to someone who's never seen it before, so let me try. Your solution is helpful, but the reason it falls short of this particular feature request is because it's not interactive. The wineglass tool is so cool because after you let go of the mouse button you can see a live preview of the transparency gradient before it's applied. You can then select and drag one of three nodes (opaque starting point, translucent mid-point and transparent end-point) to different positions until it fits your desired result before applying the tool. Also, the point of the tool is that this all can be done extremely fast to achieve great results.
For example, say you want to create a white highlight on a pill-shape button. I realize there are built-in tools to create effects like this in Photoshop, but this is just a proof of concept that can be used for many different things. The way I would do this particular effect in PHOTO-PAINT is to select the pill shape's layer, CTRL+D to duplicated it, lock the transparency of the new layer, Edit >> Fill to flood it white, resize it a tad smaller than the original pill shape, then I would grab the wineglass tool, click and hold above the pill shape and then drag below the pill shape until the bottom of the new highlight is close to transparent, but still slightly opaque. After letting go of the mouse, if I don't think it's quite right, I can move the end point or whatever. Rarely do I move the mid-point, but I find it handy sometimes.
The thing I like most is that I can tinker around with it over and over until it's just right. With your technique, if I place the gradient slightly off I have to keep trying over and over until I get it right. It would be very hard to remember exactly where I clicked before.
Thanks for the tip and thanks for listening!

  • How Client interact with Server in regular interval

    Hi friends,'
I want to develop a chat server where the user should sent the request to server in background(as server can not sent response unless the request appears). So on regular request from the Client the server check the updation in database and sent the correspong message to user.
How can i do this where the Client should interact with server in regular interval?
Is there any other way to accomplish this ,any reference guide /tutorial to develop this ?
    Regards,
    Sachin Warang.

You could add an <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="5;http://yourhost/context/servlet/"> to the HTML which will refresh the page every 5 seconds (change the 5 to 10 for every 10 seconds, etc.). The other way is to set up a JavaScript timer and use an XmlHttpRequest to make an asynchronous call to the server and update the HTML dynamically (using DOM) when a response is received (AJAX). Lastly, you could implement the client as an Applet, which gives you a much richer feature set and is a lot cleaner (having half of your app in JavaScript/DHTML is kind of messy).
There are some vendors, such as IceSoft (http://www.icesoft.com/) producing JSF components that do the AJAX stuff transparently, so you just code a normal JSF app using their components and wire up to bean action methods where you need to.

  • Interactivity with grid/spreadsheets

    Hi all,
Is there any way to interact with grids/spreadsheets such that you can click on a section and you open up some other component, like a drill down, or go to a link? It doesn't seem possible to me, but I was hoping someone here might have some experience/advice.
    Thanks.
    Anjana

There is no specific linking etc as part of the grid component.  you can change the vaue of cells by changing the interaction options... but if you want to do a bit of navigation etc you will need to place something like a Icon or URL component over the are of the grid required and set it to be transparent... this is ok if your data isnt changing location of course!
from the selectors components you also have the table component - this does allow you to make one of the columns selctable... you can then write the row id etc into a cell in your sheet to take some form of action.
    hope thats of some use!

I am able to connect to my Mac Mini on Back to My Mac through iCloud but the keyboard/trackpad on the MBAir or MBP with which I access does not register on the Mini.  So I can see the screen but cannot interact with it. Mini works accessing MBP/Air and I can use Mini to input data or interact with screens of those computers.

Regarding your first question about bookmarks, I think you discovered the answer in when you pressed the address bar. The second tab there has your bookmarks.
As for the keyboard, I'm not sure why your Firefox is reacting so slowly; mine seems to show keyboards even when I don't want them. If you have accumulated a lot of history, perhaps that's an issue?
Did you use any third party software to move your Firefox data from internal memory to the storage card?

  • I am having much trouble with the new reminders in IOS7 and how it interacts with Outlook Exchange. Many features lost in the new version.

When I downloaded IOS7, I found that the reminders/task app and how it interacts with Outlook Exchange is much more difficult to use. Some of the issues that I am having are...
    1. Trying to edit my task on my phone is not possible, if the notes are lengthy. When you click on the text to edit data near the top, it will scroll to the bottom and not allow you to edit the text because you cant see it.
    2. Now all of my task are in one long list. I can not move from day to day like we could in previous version IOS6
    3. When I do edit a short task reminder and click done, it crashes and completly goes away. It does save the edit though
    4. You can only add task at the bottom of each days reminders. This is very inconvient and much more difficult than IOS6
    5. There is a major delay or latency when interacting inside of reminders in this version. Much more than IOS6. It is very unstable and quirky.
I have never seen Apple take a step back with a product until now. I am a huge Apple fan and always will be, so I am hoping they make enhancements to fix these issue. It is a big time prodcutivity killer.
Thanks for any and all help you can give.

Some power supplies or designed so that if there is a short or overload they shut them selfs off and some will not turn back on. Some have a relay that will click back on and work, some you have to  cycle the power switch. Those that won't come back on will have to be replaced. I'm not saying that yours is that type as I have no way of telling. But if you have a friend who will loan you a good power supply you might try it. As someone else said just turning off the power will not darn all the power from some motherboards. To test this turn off your power supply than turn on the computer with the start botton. Mine will flash the lights and fans will start to spin than die. So every time you turn off computer to work on it. After turning off PSU hit the start botton to drian any power left in it before working on it. Also do this after unplugging it just to make sure.

  • Display and interact with a vi front panel on remote C++ app

    Hello:
I am new to LV and need a little advice.  I need to display a LabVIEW VI front panel in my C++ .Net application that users can interact with to view real-time spectrum data.  The C++ app (client) must reside on a separate computer(s) from the VI so that the client can connect from anywhere around the world and interact with the VI.
I am not sure about the basic architecture that should accompany a good solution.  We want to use TCP/IP but not DataSocket.  I do not have access to Measurement Studio but I do have access to LabVIEW Professional Development System v 8.2.  Can anyone provide suggestions on what I need to do in order to
    1.  Connect to my TCP server using my C++ client app - I have already written TCP client and server code which communicate but now I need to integrate LV
    2.  Get access to the VI sitting on that server
    3.  Send the VI front panel to the client for display
    4.  Allow the user to modify parameters on the front panel displayed on the C++ client, send those changes back to the server, and refresh the front panel displayed in the C++ client given the new parameters (I would like a real-time display of the spectrum to always be available)
Is this possible?  Has anyone done this using C++ .NET in VS2005?  Are there examples I can mimic or references that will help direct me?  I have searched and searched through NI's help and found a lot of good stuff but I'm still feeling confused about the best way to utilize LV.
    Thank you in advance!

One more question ... what if I could use Measurement Studio?  The documentation seems to indicate that it's easy to create network applications and therefore it would be easy for me to re-create our VI's front panel using Measurement Studio components in my C++ app and then simply connect those components to the networked hardware (TCP/IP or DataSocket) that could be located anywhere in the world.
Depending on what components you are using in your LabVIEW panel, it is probably pretty easy to build a Measurment Studio application to look like a LV panel.
Given that, you could use network shared variables to move data across the network, no TCP programming necessary -- I think that this is pretty easy to do, but I don't know the specifics about variable programming in that environment.  Also, you will probably need to add some smarts to the server side to make sure that it is reading to and writing from variables in an appropriate manner.
Question: why can't you just use LabVIEW for the client application also?

  • Animated gif with transparent background

When I import in Keynote an animated gif with transparent background. The background becomes white. I did the following tests:
If I extract a single image from the animated gif and import it in keynote the background is actually transparent but it becomes white when I import the whole gif.
I also checked with other applications (NeoOffice) and the animated gif does come out with a transparent background.
Do I do something wrong in Keynote ?

This has been an ongoing issue for me since I switched from Powerpoint to Keynote. Most of the animated gifs with transparent backgrounds that I used with Powerpoint are no longer transparent in Keynote. You may want to search for those earlier threads on this topic...
To summarize: I've had to open up my animated gifs in After Effects and use the Color Key effect to restore transparency, with mixed success.
    Good luck!

  • Creating animations with transparent backgrounds?

I'm running into some problems when using After Effects to create animations with transparent backgrounds for Keynote...
I use animated gifs and short quicktime movies with uniform backgrounds as source files, use color keying to take out the backgrounds, preview them to see if they look OK, render the results as RGB+alpha, and... they don't show up as transparent in Keynote. They work in Powerpoint, however. I've tried outputting as .mov, as .gif, as premultiplied vs straight alpha... no joy. Can someone explain (or point me to an explanation) of how Keynote differs from other programs in its handling of transparency? What am I missing?

Using a TYPE_INT_ARGB BufferedImage worked beautifully. I had played around with Image for hours, but it never occurred to me that BufferedImage would be needed. :)
    many, many thanks,

  • How do i export a flash movie as an animated gif with transparent background?

each export has the background in it.
I have looked into the publish setting for gif but no option there, or in the background colour setting in the main design window has any Alpha or Transparency setting.

Thought that issue went away. The only workaround I found was exporting a PNG sequence with transparency, importing it all back into a better animated GIF exporter like Fireworks as an image sequence and exporting it from there again. It will give you the best quality, control over the timeline, looping and various per-frame AGIF functionality.
    But yes, it's a multi-step headache.

If you have an iPhone or iPad do not update to ISO 7 unless you want an operating system that looks like windows 8. The graphics looks like it was designed by a artistically challenged mongoose and the operating system is not intuitive something apple users expect. Overly complicated ugly and generally change for the sake of apples paranoia since the death of Steve Jobs.

You need to update iTunes to 11.1 on your PC
