Immediately after updating Acrobat Pro XI to the latest version, the software no longer displays images in pdf docs.  All the boxes where images are supposed to be are solid grey.  Old documents that worked are no longer displayed correctly and new documents I make do not display images.  All grey boxes.  Worked fine before the update.  Suggestions?

    Hi precious_star,
Could you please let me know what version of OS are you using.
Open Acrobat and go to "Edit > Preferences > Page Display" and check whether 'Show large images' option is checked.
Is this issue specific for one PDF?
If possible, please share the file with me via email so that I can also check at my end.
I have sent you a message with my contact id details.
    Hope to get your response.

  • Acrobat Pro XI - Crashes when Acrobat Preferences is Opened

    Hi
    Brief History:
I am in the UK and run Mac OS X 10.8.2. Other Adobe products are CS3 Master Suite and Acrobat Pro 8. All installed on the Start Up Drive.
Downloaded and installed the Trial version of Acrobat Pro XI, intent on UpGrading on the basis of a functional copy of Acrobat Pro 8 running on the Mac and duly registered in my Adobe Account.
Happy with the Trial version the UpGrade Licence was purchased and the Serial Number was used in an attempt to convert the software to a Licenced version. However a message, something similar to that shown, declared:
The Serial Number entered is valid. Acrobat cannot find a qualifying product.
Whilst seeking help on the Adobe web site a ‘Chat’ system message popped up and subsequently a very helpful CS Agent ‘talked’ me through the problem. With the aid of Challenge Codes Acrobat Pro XI was made to accept the input of the Serial Number.
It seemed to be the end of the problem, gone was the nag screen and everything seemed to be working well, leaving me to get on and enjoy using XI?
For a few days everything seemed OK, then I tried to view a PDF from a web site and a message appeared:
    Adobe PDF Document
There is a problem with the Adobe Acrobat/Reader.
If it is running, please exit and try again. (4.9)
This subsequently appeared at every attempt to view any PDF from the web.
Downloading PDFs from web Links to the Mac and then opening them works without any problems.
    Remedial Actions:
I have trashed the Acrobat Pro XI Preferences File (.plist), used Disk Utility to Repair Permissions and rebuilt the Launch Services Database amongst other things. None of these actions have made any improvement to the situation reported.
The prospect of uninstalling Acrobat Pro XI was considered but due to the problems converting to the Licenced version I decided that being able to partially use Acrobat was better than having nothing at all.
I moved on to see if anything could be done in Acrobat Preferences.
    Acrobat Pro XI Crashes:
Opening Acrobat Pro XI, either with or without a PDF displayed, Acrobat opens and a few seconds after the Acrobat > Preferences Link is hit Acrobat Pro XI crashes. This happens for as many times as you care to try.
A substantial Report is generated and is sent to Apple but not Adobe.
Acrobat does not crash until Preferences is accessed.
I am asking for help here because having had two more ‘Chats’ on the Adobe Help web site, the first Agent deferred my request ‘until the arrival of the Acrobat Experts‘. After waiting 4 hours as requested, the second Agent ignored all the information tendered asking only a few questions before informing me that ‘This Case will have to be answered by Telephone’.
The fact that I always clearly inform that using the Telephone is difficult for me due to hearing problems was apparently of no consequence to this individual.
I Telephoned and waited for an hour before hearing a human voice, thankfully the line was quite good.
Unfortunately I was committed to other tasks and needed to break off from the conversation before any real progess was made.
The CS Agent arranged for me to receive a Call Back. The time for the Call Back came and passed along with a few more hours. Whilst I was making ‘another’ cup of coffee the phone rang for about 5 ‘rings’ and cut off. Naturally it was a withheld number, this may have been the expected call?
The Case that had been opened for this problem was upgraded with a copy of the Crash Report. On the next visit to my Account Case History all of my Cases were found to be marked as ‘Withdrawn‘ or ‘Not Appropriate’. IMO Adobe taking such retrospect action is not appropriate.
I will start the ‘on-line help’ journey again tomorrow but will not be holding my breath awaiting a successful outcome and feel that it may be better to ask some questions in this Forum:
    1. Am I entitled to 90 Days, or any other period, of Free Support from Adobe?
    2. What is the best way to proceed toward getting a resolution to these problems?
    3. Can anyone offer a direct solution to the Acrobat Pro XI Crashing problem?
Any input will be gratefully appreciated, best wishes, G

    I met same problem.
    I removed a plugin :
    /Applications/Adobe Acrobat XI Pro/Adobe Acrobat Pro.app/Contents/Built-in/Spelling.acroplugin
    then it worked.

  • Acrobat Pro 9 & XI both installed on Mac. How can I uninstall Acrobat Pro 9 & not affect Acrobat XI?

Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 and Acrobat Pro XI are installed on the same iMac with OS X 10.8.5.  How do I safely uninstall only Acrobat Pro 9 without affecting Acrobat Pro XI?
When I first installed Acrobat Pro XI, I thought maybe I was suppose to leave Acrobat Pro 9 on my computer.
So now I have both Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 and Acrobat Pro 11 installed.
I see no benefit to having both installed. I want to uninstall only the Acrobat Pro 9 and not Acrobat Pro XI.
I am not sure that I can safely uninstall Acrobat Pro 9 without affecting the functioning and files for Acrobat Pro XI.
I started to uninstall Acrobat 9, but I stopped when I saw a warning in a little window.
I went to the  "Acrobat Uninstaller.app"  file in the  "Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro"  folder and double clicked it.
The Acrobat folder for Acrobat XI Pro came up with the file "Adobe Acrobat Pro.app" selected
I manually selected the  "Adobe Acrobat Pro.app"  file in the  "Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro" folder.
When I clicked on "Adobe Acrobat Pro.app" for Acrobat 9  a window with a warning came up. So I stopped.
"Uninstall will remove files, folders, and preferences installed by Acrobat from your system.
There is no undo available. User data files and directories shared by other Adobe applications will not be removed."
Should I go ahead and click [Uninstall]?
I don't think it will delete my pdf files.
Will this affect my Acrobat XI operating &/or preferences? Will Acrobat XI still function correctly?
What do I have to do to safely have just Acrobat XI on my computer without Acrobat 9?
    Thank you for any help.

I am trying to uninstall, I tried to uninstall, but I got the following message when trying to uninstall: "Invalid Application. The application selected was not a valid Acrobat application for this uninstaller. Please rerun the uninstaller." Acrobat 9 installation suddenly stopped working
    Can you help?

  • I just downloaded acrobat pro DC for the trial version and it won't open

I downloaded the trial version of acrobat pro DC on the 30 day trial. It installed fine. But when I click on it it will not open. If I try to open it from clicking on a pdf file it won't open either.
I only downloaded this, not the whole adobe suite. I am on windows 8.1. I only downloaded it today and still have the 30 days left on the trial.
I have tried repairing it. Uninstalling and reinstalling and restrarting my computer. No error message comes up when I try to load it. Nothing happens. HELP

  • PDF file displays different number of text blocks in Acrobat Pro CC 2014 and CS6 versions

    Hi,
I've inherited a file at work that displays different numbers of text blocks, depending on the version of Acrobat Pro used to view the file. Here's the specific issue:
    As viewed in CC 2014:
"Chapter 1 - Chapter One Title": Appears as two text blocks -- one for "Chapter 1 - " and one for "Chapter One Title"
    As viewed in CS 6:
"Chapter 1 - Chapter One Title": Appears as a single text block -- "Chapter 1 - Chapter One Title"
This occurs only with regard to single-digit chapter numbers that are whole numbers. So:
Chapter 1, Chapter 5, and Chapter 7 entries appear as two blocks in CC 2014, one block in CS6.
Chapter 2.0, Chapter 6.1, Chapter 10, entries appear in single blocks in both CC 2014 and CS6.
The PDF file was created -- I believe -- through the save-to-PDF feature in Word 2010.
    Any idea what's happening here?
    Thanks.
    David

First of all, there is no such thing as Acrobat CS6 or Acrobat CC 2014. We assume you are referring to Acrobat X and Acrobat XI respectively.
Secondly, how are you determining how many text blocks are in the PDF file? By use of the text touchup/edit function in Acrobat? If so, how this edit function displays text doesn't necessarily correspond to the actually underlying text fragments in the PDF file. In fact, sometimes it combines fragments based on heuristics. Those heuristics have varied with different version of Acrobat.
PDF as a file format doesn't know the context of the graphical objects such as text. There is no concept of a line, a sentence, a paragraph, a column, etc. in terms of text. Runs of text are context-insensitive. You will get “breaks” when switching between regular and italics or when unusual paragraph justification is involved.
Is the actual problem in trying to edit the text or something else?
If you post a file, and indicate what text we should look at, we can confirm what is actually going on in your file.

  • Acrobat Pro X showing cached/previous version PDFs

    Hi all,
I'm running Acrobat Pro X on Lion, and have a problem where if I make a PDF (for example in Illustrator) and open it in Acrobat, and then at a later point amend the Illustrator artwork, make a new PDF with the same file name and open it again in Acrobat I don't see the updated PDF, just the original one. If I quit and reopen Acrobat everything is fine, but I've no idea why Acrobat is showing a cached/previous version of the PDF. Any suggestions as to how I can fix this without having to quit and reopen Acrobat every time I amend a PDF?
    Thanks,
    Stephen

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro X - Update to XI version

I have Adobe acrobat Pro X. I understood that I have "a right" to update it to XI.
What is the price of update (students and teachers edition)?
Which file and from where I should download?
    Best regards, Päivi

you can "upgrade" from acrobat x to xi, http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/buying-guide-upgrade-pricing.html

  • Unable to upgrade Acrobat Pro XI to the latest version - 11.0.05.

    Hi,
I've been using Acrobat Pro XI from last one month. Recently Adobe introduced a patch release of 11.0.05 for Acrobat XI. When I try to install this upgrade, am getting stuck at the following screen:
Am not able to find this file on my system, with the result I have to cancel the upgrade.
Please help me get the latest patch installed on my system.
    Thanks.

The latest is 11.0.06. Normally the updates have to be installed in order, but this one can be installed over the original install (the web site will tell you). When you cannot update from the Help menu, then go to http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows, download the appropriae updates, and install them. It is a good idea when doing the updates to be logged in as the admin. and have anti-virus disabled.

  • Form created in acrobat pro 6 blank in acrobat pro x

We recently upgraded from adobe acrobat 6 pro to acrobat X pro and when opeing some filled out forms from acrobat 6 they are not filled in in acrobat x pro if we reopen them in adobe acrobat 6 they work fine. Is there something we have to do to make the forms populate the data in acrobat pro x that was created in acrobat pro 6.
We are running microsoft windows 7 x64.

You can export the data in Acrobat 6 and import the data in Acrobat X.

  • Are Acrobat Pro 11 do what Acrobat Pro 11 does

I am using forms from the VA Supreme Court, With Adobe Acrobat Pro 11 I can save the form by using the save icon at the lower right hand corner and putting it in my documents. I can think close out the VSC site and then open the form. By doing this all shaded areas of the form do not print and I can save for a clent. Will Adobe Acrobat Pro 10 do this also?

OK I will try to elaborate this time with pictures so it is clear what I am asking and what the issue I am facing is.
The specific option I want to be able to use from within the Adobe Acrobat Pro user interface is
    File\Create\Batch Create Multiple Files
When I select that menu item a floating tool bar thing pops up that I can drag and drop files onto.
If I drag excel or powerpoint documents onto it and press OK it converts them fine.  If I drag MS word documents into it the documents appear in the list but when I click OK it says no files processed.
In the process of troubleshooting I also tried using the Add Files button.  That is when I discovered that MS word documents (*.doc, *.docx) are not showing up in the list of supported file types.
The same thing happens when I try converting a single file using the File\Create\Create PDF From File menu item. Just like above the MS word documents do not show up in the list of supported file types.
Looking in my registry entries as suggested by the article linked to by one of the posters above I can see both *.doc and *.docx types registered in the correct place.
Unless I can use the batch convert command as intended by the time my trial period runs out in 13 days I cannot justify buying this software. If converting the documents one at a time was acceptable I would just use Save As PDF from within MS Word which works just fine. I need the batch convert function so I can convert my whole library of word documents to PDF at once.
    Any further assistance greatly appreciated!

Can I use my software on two computers?
If you own, or are the primary user of, a single-user or volume license Adobe product that is installed on a computer at work, you can also install and use the software on one secondary computer of the same platform at home or on a portable computer. However, you may not run the software simultaneously on both the primary and secondary computers.
No more than one user can use a single-user license Adobe product.
Note: AVL customers have to buy two different licenses to use both operating systems, even if they have two different computers. They can only use the same license on another computer (not simultaneously) with the same platform at home.

  • Uninstalling Acrobat Pro X after installing Acrobat Pro Xl?

I noticed that when I intsalled the new Acrobat Pro Xl as part of Creative Cloud, Acrobat X was not removed.
Since the app alone uses almost 1 GB of space, I would like to safely remove the app, and any related files that are not required for Xl.

    Jeff,
In the "Adobe Installers" folder, when opening the Acrobat uninstaller (named "Acrobat X Pro"), the uninstall optons are:
Acrobat X Pro (checked by default)
.– Suite Shared Configuration CS 6 (checked by default)
    Remove Preferences (UNchecked by default)
Should I run the uninstaller with the options as is?
    Thanks
