Interactive Booklet Problems

Since updating to iTunes 7 I am no longer able to view Quicktime interactive booklets. Adobe ones like "Modern Times" styill work fine but Quicktime ones such as the "Muse Black Holes and Revelations" boolket just play as a few seconds of silence. Nothing else happens - the pages are not viewable at all. This is regardless of if I try playing them through iTunes or Quicktime. I have updated to ITunes 7.1 but this does not solve the problem. Any suggestions?

  • Interactive Booklet Problems & iTunes 7

Since upgrading to 7, I noticed that the interactive booklet I got with a couple of albums from the iTMS no longer function properly. Anyone else see the same issue?
You got one with P.O.D.'s "Testify" for example. It used to open up into a looping movie that was the booklet. Now it seems to play, but nothing appears.

I seem to be having the same problem. At first I thought it was my fault. I was irritated at how the 2 booklets I have would try to "play" when I was shuffling music, so I moved them outside of the iTunes folder, thinking I could open them outside of iTunes. When they wouldn't show anything other than a playbar, I put them back into iTunes, then they wouldn't play.
It doesn't make sense that they would break just by moving them. Is it iTunes 7's fault and not mine?

  • Itunes interactive booklet problems

i dont know if many of you know, but some music albums sold on itunes may come with an "interactive booklet". this is basically a digital version of a cd booklet which runs in quicktime and has moving pages etc. they are also quicktime movie files (.mov)
i currently have one from a cd which i got last may, it used to open fine within quicktime being an open window with a cd cover sized "movie" playing with options to click to different pages. but for some reason it no longer shows up within the window. i can open it fine but i cannot actually see it, it only opens up like this: http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/4536/quicktimedx6.jpg
i have tried to uninstall quicktime and then reinstall it again, i have also made sure that the file is not corrupt by downloading another. i have windows xp sp2, quicktime 7.1.3
    any help would be great.
    thanks, jiminy.

    *bump
anybody able to help me with this?
    thanks,
    jiminy.

  • Problem with interactive booklet

i just bought B'Day, by Beyonce, whihc comes with an interactive booklet. i double click on it and nothing happens.... i tried to open it in Quicktime and RealPlayer but it wouldn't work
how does a digital booklet work?
does anyone know why this is happening?

I'm having the same problem. I sent them an e-mail last night and got some delusional response that had nothing to do with my question. I specifically asked about the "B'Day" interactive booklet and said it wouldn't work and all they said was you've downloaded "B'Day" already. I sent them a second e-mail, but I haven't heard back yet.
I'm also having a problem with my "Idlewild" interactive booklet. I can't get it to expand into a larger window. It's only done it once.
The whole interactive booklet thing seems like a complete mess. Not to mention they have 2 of the same version of "B'Day" on iTunes if you click on her name. I'm wondering if one version had the actual booklet and the other didn't. There was an incident with Danity Kane's album on release day also. They had two versions at first, one with a video and one without. But both were the same price. They eventually got rid of the one that didn't include the video. I knew it was an error. But I'm wondering if the same thing happened here.

  • Interactive and digital booklet problems

I need help with itunes 8 digital and interactive booklets. i specifically the interactive ones, i cannot get them to view properly, there was a time when i could look at one and keep listening to music uninterrupted . . what happened? i remember it being some type of setting in quicktime but couldnt make it work. then i made the mistake of changing one of the booklets to "movie" under media type and now when i try and change it back all i get is options for types of movies, i cannot change it back to music. please help!

I don't think so. I've been looking for a solution (how to fix my interactive booklets) for well over a year. All of them at this point have been reset as movies instead of music files and they don't play properly under iTunes 8.

  • Interactive booklet file missing: How do I get it back again?

I have the album "Highway Companion" Deluxe version by Tom Petty. I recently discovered that there is an interactive booklet that is is a movie file but the file contains no data. It's just a black/blank screen. I checked my purchase history for the download and I notice this item is not listed there - just the tracks and a video.
I don't know what happened to file, e.g., whether it got corrupted or never downloaded in the first place. I reported this a problem through the purchase history but haven't heard from iTunes.
Is it possible to get this file again? Or will I have to purchase the entire album again just to get the interactive booklet?

Just because it's only offering those two as installable doesn't mean the others aren't also on the disk!
Go to HD/Library/Receipts and see if there are any pkg files there with iPhoto in the name. If there are, delete them
Also, try using Pacifist to search and extract the installers from the disk.

  • ITunes & Quicktime will not play Interactive Booklets purchased at iTunes

Have discovered that all interactive booklets that accompanied my iTunes purchases are no longer accessible through iTunes or Quicktime. Has this happened to others, and has anyone discovered a fix?
    Thanks in advance for help.

if i try to open it from a folder using right click and open with quicktime, then it doesnt work (quicktime message is 'not working, searcing for a reason'
Hmmm ... that's still a bit odd. It would be nice if we can get that working properly too.
Can you try generating another couple of those error messages? Take a close note of the time showing on the PC when the messages are created. Now go into your Action Center, and find your Problem History. Look for QuickTime problem reports generated at the time of the errors.
Open the QuickTime problem reports and have a look through. Do they all seem to be saying the same thing? If so, paste the contents into a reply here so we can have a look.

  • Interactive Booklet

I have purchased the new audioslave album(great) However I cannot get anything out of the interactive booklet. I have tried in quick time and the same thing happens - It has a progress bar and a timer of 11 seconds but that is it.
I thought it was art work etc but it seems to be nothing.
    Any ideas?

Hey, John, did you try the above (my last post)?
I have posts in two locations. On the other thread, I stated I already had the item on system preferences checked and followed the steps as outlined
Being the kind of guy that I am I went back and:
1 unchecked the item. Restarted (System reboot) the computer.
2 Check "enable Flash" and Restart (System reboot) the computer
3 Now double click the interactive booklet and well... you get an interactive booklet with one more step
4 Look for (either "Now Playing" or "Selected" [You and switch it] window in lower left corner) and in very small print (about 4 point) you can see four items
    A Cover
    B Photos
    C Lyrics
    D Discography
5 Double click that window [what I call the Album Cover window (Now Playing or selected] and you get an Interactive book and you and select from the four items (a to d) above.
Good heavens I either had it all the time and never double clicked that window. I used the old Mac Plus (early 90's) trick to deselect (turn off) and reboot and select and reboot. This trick still works for that spreadsheet program from the boys near Seattle

  • Interactive booklet not playing

I have had many interactive bookelets download when I have purchased entire albums. However, I can never get them to play. The show as a .mov file but are of 0 sec in length and neither iTunes nor QuickTime will play them. How can I access the interactive booklets?

Hi there, I've the same problem and numerous mails from Apple have failed to resolve the issue. I've included the latest in a long line of missives.
Here's hoping you have better luck!
An interactive booklet is a Flash file that provides some animation and a
way to interact to with the content that isn't possible with a PDF file.
The ones I've seen look a lot like a DVD menu, with options to see more
information about the artist or album. That's also why you have to have
Flash enabled before you can view them.
To view the interactive booklet, please be sure that you are using the newest version of iTunes, 7.0.2.
If you are using the newest iTunes version which was released this week, you will need to follow the steps below to view your interactive booklet:
    1) Open iTunes.
    2) Since you're a Mac user, select Preferences from the iTunes menu.
    3) Click the General icon.
    4) Make sure there's a check in the box next to "Play videos" and then select "in a separate window" from the dropdown menu.
If you continue to experience problems viewing the interactive booklet, please refer to the following article:

  • Interactive Booklet is blank 7 sec .MOV file.... HELP

I just purchased 'The Captain and the Kid' by Elton John on the US Store.
    (REALLY GREAT ALBUM!!!)
but the interactive booklet is a 7 second empty .mov file.... HOW DO I GET THE BOOKLET....
I reported it to iTunes (thru my purchase history) yesterday but have heard nothing....
    HELP!

    Codec : icod
I generally defer to folks like QuickTimeKirk on these sorts of matters, but I think that's the source of the problem. That's the Apple Intermediate Codec, an editing codec used on Macs:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7240374#7240374
... and it won't display on a PC:

Can the provider of the file re-export it using a different video codec for you?

  • ITunes Interactive booklet size.

Recently d/l an album from the music store, and the included interactive booklet shows up in the small window in the lower left of the screen, but the option to see it full screen in greyed out and double clicking the image won't make it any larger.
Any idea how to view this so I can actually read the text?

Seems a bit of a poor concept. I downloaded my first yesterday and have the same problem.
The only way I've found to play it larger is to locate 'song' file and open it in Quicktime Player. This works but not without a bit of playing around. Not the user friendly thing I would expect from itunes.
Also, the booklet I downloaded 'Thom Yorke - The Eraser', has it's own sound track (which I suppose is cool, but If I want to browse it while listening to the album (as one would a traditional CD cover) then it creates a problem.

  • Interactive booklets

Unless I'm missing something, interactive booklets only appear in the small inset in the lower left hand corner of itunes. These interactive booklets contain photos, print and other media. I have 20/20 vision, but am unable to reasonably use these booklets. Please, Apple, if you see this add an option to view these in a larger mode such as the main itunes window! These booklets have the potential to be so much more than a CD insert could ever imagine. Please make that a reality! (btw, the specific booklets I mention are "Dixie Chicks--Taking the Long Way" and "Keane--Under the Iron Sea")

I have the exact same problem. I still can't open the artwork in a separate window from within I Tunes but I found a work around. Go go the folder where you music is actually stored on your computer, and double click the quicktime file from there. It will open in a normal window and you can then follow along with the links full screen.
    Good luck!

  • Interactive booklets no longer play in iTunes

All my interactive booklets from albums I bought at the iTunes Store no longer play! I am running Leopard with all the latest updates to my software. Thanks for any suggestions.

    Revision:
From what I've read at macworld.com, Apple disabled the flash function in the latest QuickTime update due to a possible security breach. Why is it that Apple doesn't even mention this? I hope a fix is on the way.

  • Interactive booklets no longer working with v7?

I just upgraded to iTunes 7 and now my interactive booklets no longer work. I think it may be a Quicktime issue, though, because I can't run them directly in Quicktime either. And to be clear, these are interactive booklets, not the regular .pdf booklets. They come in .mov container, examples include the latest Justin Timberlake album, also Outkast "Idlewild" and Yellowcard's "Lights and Sounds". When I double click the files in iTunes, there is activity up above in the now playing window but no viewer opens. When I execute the files in Quicktime, I get a window with no contents.
    Any ideas?

Actually, there is a little more to it, because you can't then just click on the interactive book and start it up. What you really have to do is:
Open Quicktime and go to Quicktime : Quicktime Preferences (note that there are two preferences under the Quicktime menu!)
    Click on the Advanced tab
    Click on "Enable Flash"
    Click OK
    Quit Quicktime
    Restart iTunes
Then click on an interactive book
Then click on the album art window to expand it (BUTT only if you are in the regular column view and are showing artwork. If you don't see album art here, go to View and Show Artwork. (BUTT if you are in the new rotating album view panel (that I do like, which you can choose in the upper right hand corner of the iTunes window), then clicking on the album artwork in the rotating view won't start up the interactive booklet. You have to click on the album artwork in the lower left-hand corner)).
Then, after the album artwork expands to a large window, click on this large album art window to start the book (BUTT if you click on the black control panel at the bottom of the album artwork window, then you'll just advance to the next album art - not helpful).

  • Shouldn't "Interactive Booklet" be the size of an Album booklet?

I noticed when trying to use the Killers "Sam's Town" interactive booklet, it popped up like the album art. I could click on these tiny words I couldn't read to get where I wanted, but I figured I'd make it bigger so I could actually see it. Then it's too big and it's all distorted with pixels. And what's all this about not being able to listen to music while viewing the booklet? I tried but couldn't figure this out. Is this possible? If not...this interactive booklet stuff is really bogus.

Doesn't seem like an issue to me.
Would you ban all cover tunes as well?
No one can remake a song?
Who decides who can sell their cover songs?
You want Apple to decide who can and cannot sell their legal music on itunes, based on what?  If someone has made the song/album before, then Apple should deny the legal sale of the product?
    Seems like a bad idea.
