Interactive booklets don't work, flash playback option nonexistent.

I have an interactive booklet, but whenever I open it, a black screen shows and it goes through 3 seconds of a silent track. I went to this link but the "Enable playback of Adobe Flash tracks" is nonexistent. I have the latest version of QuickTime and iTunes, as whenever I tell them to update it just tries to install Safari, obviously a bad idea.

... Unfortunately, that article about playing interactive booklets is out of date. With QuickTime 7.3.1 and above, the Flash handler has been disabled due to security concerns. There's some more info about that in the following document:

... so that check box just doesn't exist anymore in the advanced preferences of a QT 7.4.1 (which it sounds like you've got, given that ASU is only telling you about Safari at the moment).
My guess is that we'll only get it back if a new, secure, Flash handler gets developed for Quicktime.

Interactive booklets no longer working with v7?

I just upgraded to iTunes 7 and now my interactive booklets no longer work. I think it may be a Quicktime issue, though, because I can't run them directly in Quicktime either. And to be clear, these are interactive booklets, not the regular .pdf booklets. They come in .mov container, examples include the latest Justin Timberlake album, also Outkast "Idlewild" and Yellowcard's "Lights and Sounds". When I double click the files in iTunes, there is activity up above in the now playing window but no viewer opens. When I execute the files in Quicktime, I get a window with no contents.
Any ideas?

Actually, there is a little more to it, because you can't then just click on the interactive book and start it up. What you really have to do is:
Open Quicktime and go to Quicktime : Quicktime Preferences (note that there are two preferences under the Quicktime menu!)
Click on the Advanced tab
Click on "Enable Flash"
Click OK
Quit Quicktime
Restart iTunes
Then click on an interactive book
Then click on the album art window to expand it (BUTT only if you are in the regular column view and are showing artwork. If you don't see album art here, go to View and Show Artwork. (BUTT if you are in the new rotating album view panel (that I do like, which you can choose in the upper right hand corner of the iTunes window), then clicking on the album artwork in the rotating view won't start up the interactive booklet. You have to click on the album artwork in the lower left-hand corner)).
Then, after the album artwork expands to a large window, click on this large album art window to start the book (BUTT if you click on the black control panel at the bottom of the album artwork window, then you'll just advance to the next album art - not helpful).

Hi, We are working on a course using captivate 6 and some interactive pages are developed using flash and integrated in captivate. these interactivities work fine if we review it from any LMS or offline but our client has Skill soft LMS where these interactivities don't work. Any idea what could be the issue here?

I have also created a captivate 6 course using flash interactive pages, there are many issues such as interactive screens not work, audio does not play well, it get cut off at the end on Skill soft LMS. Also the course completion in not getting recorded.
Has anyone here found any solution or any workaround to solve this issue.

I have interactive links to videos that don't work when I am in the remote mode, my ipad is controlling my iphone the is connected to a monitor.

Same here - I returned my original, same problem on the second one, and same problem on my son's phone. I called Apple tech months ago, got to a senior supervisor who assured me he'd get back to me, but never did.

White MacBook Water Damage-Fans don't work...options?

About 2 years ago I had some water damage on my white Macbook, after a couple of days it started up again and worked fine, except that the fans don't run and the thing overheats and shuts down if I do anything intensive. I brought it into the Genius Bar and they said I need a new logic board...I assume they aren't going to steer me wrong, but do I have any other options?...Like I said it works great unless I run media or something.

If your MacBook is continually overheating it will very likely fail, sooner rather than later. It is unfortunate that non-functional fans require replacement of the logic board - a fairly expensive item - but it is correct.
My son spilled bourbon on his MacBook with similar results. He managed to keep it working for a while by putting it on top of bags of frozen peas, replacing them when it got too warm. Eventually though the computer was replaced.
Get the repair done or replace the computer. You can use workarounds such as the frozen peas to get the data off of the MacBook, but don't count on it working for long.

Interactive elements don't work in Preview

I have created a pdf document with numerous page links in InDesign CS4, and setting properties for the pdf in Acrobat CS4. Apparently Apple computers open pdfs with their Preview program by default. So the document opens in Preview for Mac users who haven't changed the default and therefore the page links do not work. Does anyone know if there is a way to either warn the user that they should open this document in Acrobat Reader, or set a property in Acrobat that tells the Mac computer to open the document in Acrobat Reader?

Which program is the default PDF viewer on the Mac cannot be controlled by something in a PDF. What you can do is set something up in the PDF (like a button or layer) that shows your warning message. This message would show be default, but if loaded in Acrobat (Reader), some JavaScript code would automatically run and get rid of the message. So PDF viewers that don't support JavaScript, such as Preview, would display the PDF with the message, but Acrobat or Reader (if JavaScript is enabled) would remove the warning when the document is loaded.

Yahoo Finance Interactive Charts Don't Work W/Safari

Does anyone know how to make the Yahoo interactive charts work with Safari? They seem to work only about 5% of the time. I had to download Google Chrome to have consistent views.

I changed the chart settings on Yahoo charts to "candlestick" instead of "line" type and that worked. I then changed the setting back to "line" type and it worked again. For now at least, the problem is solved. I'll try again tomorrow and see what happens...

Chapters don't work

I created my first project. Video done in imovie 08, DVD done in iDVD 08. The first time I made it, all chapters worked fine but I had the wrong music on opening screen. So I went back and changed it and burned another DVD. Now the chapters do not work. I have tried deleting the iDVD prefs and creating a new project from scratch which means redoing the chapters but they still don't work on playback when using the advance button. I have seen a lot of discussion around this issue but no real solution that works for me. Is this a known bug? Is there a work around?

Adobe Flash & Javascript don't work even though Enabled

Ever since what I think was either a Firefox upgrade (I don't know which one) or installation of Quicktime, my Adobe Flash Plugin is perpetually crashed and I cannot play any Flash content on any website. All that displays in place of the video is a gray screen with the sad-face Lego icon and the message: “The Adobe Flash Plugin has crashed. Please reload the page to try again.” (See attached image.) But it will not resolve when reloaded.
No Flash videos on any sites work. HTML5 videos work on YouTube when tested, but non-HTML5 videos won't work.
Also, my Javascript does not seem to be working since at least some displays requiring javascript don't work. Sometimes the display just doesn't work, and sometimes I get a message that javascript is disabled and must be enabled, but it is already enabled (set to “true” in about:config).
I have spent days scouring every help forum entry I can find on troubleshooting Flash Player and Javascript. Everything on my end seems to be in order and I cannot find or fix either problem. I think it is possible the issue could have its roots in the fact that Javascript seems to not be working which may be preventing Flash Player content from working...??
Also, Flash content does work in I.E. but not in Firefox (I do not have Chrome installed so did not test in Chrome). I have too many window tabs open in Firefox and can't switch to I.E. (nor do I like to use I.E.).
PLEASE HELP as this is crippling for very important work deadlines I have.

Installed Graphics Driver Version: AMD 13.352.1004.1007 (Driver Date: 4/22/2014)
My Device Manager graphics driver updater states: “driver software is up to date.”
From the AMD website: the graphics driver auto-detect utility recommended the AMD Catalyst Driver (amd-catalyst-omega-14.12-without-dotnet45-win8.1-64bit.exe) I tried installing this driver, but it won't install. After trying to install, I got a message stating: “We are unable to find a driver for your system.” But Device Manager states I have a current driver, and my graphics card & driver seem to be working fine, so I do not believe this is part of the issue.
I am using Latest Firefox version 35.0.1; and
Using Latest Flash Player: 32-bit NPAPI Plug-in Version: 16.0.0.296; designated: “always activate” (Downloaded new update several times, including fresh install after uninstall; system & web address icons indicate Flash is enabled).
I turned off hardware acceleration in FF Tools>Options>Advanced>General

I am using Ad-Block Plus which has never affected things in the past. I have not tried starting FF in Safe Mode because I believe I will lose all open tabs and not be able to recover them (I may have over 200 open). But disabling add-ons has no effect (I disabled all except for Sessions Manager in case of a crash). (My No-Script has been disabled for at least six months.)
I have Windows Media Player and Quicktime installed.
Quicktime is most recent upgrade (7.7.6) so should not be a problem according to:

Disabling Quicktime had no effect in the prior version of FF (ver. 35.0), but in latest FF ver. 35.0.1, Flash videos only display a plain (blank) gray screen instead of the sad-faced icon and crash message.
(I tried to uninstall Quicktime altogether, but was not able to due to Error codes 2502 & 2503. I tried troubleshooting that as well with no luck using methods successful for other programs, including here:

Disabling my FF theme and using the default brought back the sad-faced icon and crash message in the place of videos on some YouTube pages, but not other YouTube pages (where video was still blank gray screen). It also enabled a still Flash image (an ad) to display on a different website page that previously had a Flash Plugin crash message. I have been using this same theme for a couple of years without previous issue. While turning it off did generate an effect on some still imagery, it didn't fix the video problem.
I tried Disabling Protected Mode in Flash 11.3 as explained here:

It did not solve the issue.
I also deleted all storage & data in Flash Player as advised. This had no effect either.

Since it was working for some youtube videos and not others, there might be an issue with a particular video codec. DO you have OpenH264 Video Codec provided by Cisco Systems, Inc. plugin?
Is it possible to try Safe Mode after saving your session with [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/session-manager/ Session Manager Addon]? IT would test hardware acceleration in Firefox.

Thank you, guigs2! Sorry for my delayed reply...I didn't realize I hadn't gotten back to you. Update is that I did try a whole slew of other troubleshooting steps including starting FF in safe mode, to no avail. However, I was FINALLY (after months) able to solve this problem just today by pure chance!
The problem was that hardware acceleration was enabled in the Flash settings. I had not been able to turn it off because I didn't have access to the Flash Player settings as long as the crash error message was visible, which was all the time! Today, by a sheer fluke, I saw a static picture in place of the crash message on a Flash video. I snagged the opportunity to call up the settings and turn off hardware acceleration, and it fixed the problem for my whole browser! This has been a frustrating issue because I did not have access to the settings utility as long as I had the crash message, which was always, so my Flash was crippled without the ability for me to fix it until pure luck gave me this window of opportunity.
Does anyone know another way to access the settings utility if this ever happens again in the future? I could not find a way. (Incidentally, I had tried disabling hardware acceleration via my graphics driver settings, but it didn't fix the problem.) We need Adobe to allow some other way to access the Flash Player settings utility when this problem arises since they aren't accessible when there is a static crash message.

Adding swf (Captivate clips) into RoboHelp: flash controls don't work

Hi all,
I've added captivate swf project and ALL the flash controls (toc, play etc) don't work, though it plays continuously from the beginning. If I extract that page HTML code and play it separately, it works on all browsers. I render RoboHelp projects as MS HTML Help.
Are there any known issues with rendering flash clips in Microsoft HTML Help? it looks as it is using some weird embedded browser for swf.

Okay, this gets curiouser and curioser the more I look at it.
At first blush it appeared things were working. Then I tried the playback controls. Odd, the controls will allow a single click and they will carry out whatever function you clicked. But that seems to be it. Further clicks appear to be disallowed. I tested with a fresh Captivate movie as well as one that uses the Domain Lock Widget.
Wondering if this was an overall issue with SWF content in general or if it was simply tied to the Playback Controls, I then tried adding some button objects to each slide to allow the user to navigate from slide to slide. This seems to work.
I thought (hoped actually) that perhaps it was simply the default playback controls causing the issue. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be. I tried creating a SWF using the Aluminum controls. Same issue.
At this point I have to admit that I'm more than a little stumped. I'm surprised that I've not heard of this before or that others haven't reported it. However, I use Captivate files in my CHM files all the time. The main difference is that I never use playback controls in my movies. I am always using either Buttons or Click Boxes to navigate.
So being generally unsatisfied and poking it further, I seem to have found the culprit. I did the same thing in RoboHelp 7 and there wasn't an issue. What was different? I scrutinized the code and there was no difference. Hmmm
Then it hit me. The difference here was that where the Captivate playback control only functioned after the first click, the RoboHelp project was using Browse Sequences. So I edited the window definition and turned them off. BINGO! The Captivate works fine now.
I also tested using RoboHelp 7. Same issue there as well.
Definitely this should be reported to Adobe as a bug. Link is in my sig.

Flash videos don't work with PepperFlash disabled (but with system plugin enabled) on Chrome!

Hello everyone,
Basically, Google Chrome lags a lot when I use PepperFlash and so I have heard that disabling it and using the system flash will have better performance. I have done this but when I disable PepperFlash, the flash videos don't work as it says flash player has crashed. Also, I would like to resolve the lag and bad performance with flash videos on chrome because the video playback on Internet Explorer is a lot better than Chrome(Never thought I would have to say that) atm. A possible solution might be to install 32-Bit Chrome instead
Summary:
Flash videos lag(most likely due to PepperFlash being used according to other people)
When PepperFlash is disabled, the system flash plugin does not work in chrome as it apparently crashes every time.
I would like help on how to resolve the bad performance and be able to use the system flash plugin to have no lag on videos and livestreams.

Immediately upon updating to Beta 34.0, Silverlight and Flash, completely stopped working in Firefox. I am running Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2.
They work fine in Internet Explorer.
This happens in any website I go to.
For example, I can go to Youtube, and the page will show a black box where the video should be, but there are no play controls, or any way to enable the video. Clicking within the black box does nothing.
On the music play site, Grooveshark, the site does not recognize Flash as being installed at all. (If you don't have Flash installed, this site pops up a message every time. Grooveshark correctly recognizes that Internet Explorer has Flash installed.)
I updated the Flash plugin to the current version, which also did nothing.
I have not reinstalled Firefox, or done a System Restore, yet.
I just bought a new computer that I was going to migrate to, and retire this computer, so I was not going to do heroic efforts to fix this. I was reporting this more on the order of a bug report.

This happened to me as well with Windows 7 32 bit (which I did as as upgrade from Vista Home Premium - if that might foul things up a bit) and affects Firefox 34.1 and IE. I did a system restore which took me back to Firefox 33 and Flash was fine. Later in the day Firefox updated back to 34.1 and I lost Flash again.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.

I Already tried that. Even tried uninstall and reinstall! Ialso tried uninstall and reinstall of reader then uninstall and reinstall of flash. There is another display quirk with Lion , if I let my mbp go to sleep without logging out or shutting down, I get the last screen frozen. I have to use the curser to erase the area where the login icon is, then I can enter the login pw and get the mbp to be functional again! There are a number of other display related sizes and parameters that randomly happen since lion was installed. UNSTABLE is a good description here !
