Interactive elements in indesign

Hi all, I create tender documents for my company, often involving a requirement for a digital version as well.
In iDeisgn I want to spruce up the contents a little with interactivity. Very simple just a button to goto each section of the PDF.
I build my tenders using the books feature and unless I am missing something the interactive element seems a bit simple in that it does not allow me to have ab utton to goto a page in a different section. The contents page is in its individual section of the book.
Tell me it ain't so!
I am using CS4 but the CS5 demo does not appear to offer anything much new.

I am aware of that and its what I currently do. However I wanted something a little more sophisticated. The idea being to have a 'pre content' page with perhaps a subtle graphic animation and the quick links and then a 'proper' TOC for the detail.
Is there anyway to create buttons in one document to link to another within a book. Or any other way this could be achieved.

  • Embedded Video in Interactive PDF from Indesign (click to activate! grr!)

    Hi guys
I am trying to put together an interactive PDF newsletter which has a video and a small slide show in it.
I am pretty new to this interactive element of indesign.
The video seems to have embedded fine (it is a FLV file), but when I view the PDF and hover over it I get a click to activate message.  While this is useful in telling the user to click on it, I would much rather it was nicely greyed out with the small play triangle in the middle and worked when the user clicked on that.
I guess my issue is a presentational one mainly.  Does this make any sense to anyone?!
    Thanks

The way the PDF plays in Acrobat or Reader (this is what you're using, right?) is nothing InDesign has any control over.
So this really should be posted in the Acrobat forums. However, I don't believe there is any way you can modify this message, I'm afraid.

  • Creating interactive elements for a PDF using CS5

I created some interactive elements in a CS4 document and ticked 'Interactive elements' in the options box on the PDF General dialog box, and the buttons do what they should when the resulting PDF. But when I try to create a PDF with this file in CS5, the buttons aren't working. Is there another setting I am missing? The Interactive Elements option is set to 'Include appearance'.

You will need to make an Interactive PDF.

  • Interactive PDF in InDesign

I create an interactive PDF in Indesign and when I export it as an Interactive PDF some of the text is missing in the PDF file. I changed the font to something universal like Times to see if it was a font issue, but the font still does not appear in the exported PDF.
How do I fix this problem?
    Thanks,
    ~V

I am having one of the issues mentioned. I have made two buttons. On mouse down they should open PDFs. When I export to PDF I make sure that I have 'Interactive Elements' ticked and Multimedia set to 'Embed All'. I would assume this should embed the two PDFs that are connected to the two buttons but it does not.
How do I embed the PDFs in the final PDF? I am using CS2.
    Cheers.

  • Interactive elements aren't working in web browser

Hi, ive created an interactive PDF form in InDesign, it works fine in reader on mine and other computers when emailed as an attachment.  This form however needs to be attached to a HTML email so it needs to be hosted on our servers and be downloaded via link. when the PDF id downloaded it is automatically opened in the web browser, and when this happens none of the interactive elements work ie show/hide fields or the Print and Submit buttons.  Please someone help!

    Heres the form,

  • How to map the elements in Indesign document with the PDF elements

I wanted to know any way of mapping elements in the InDesign document with the elements in the exported PDF document from the same InDesign document.
E.g If I have an Image X in InDesign document, Can I point out the same element in exported PDF using some mapping?
    Thanks in advance
    -Sandeep

What is meant by me is, if there is a Text element in InDesign document, I should able to point out the respective PDF object.
I am looking for some way to mark a specific InDesign element and once we export the document to PDF, I want to point out to the same element in some way so that I can process it.
Requirement is simple, one user will mark some elements in the InDesign document and export it to PDF and send it to the other user. Other user will parse the PDF and extract the same element back or process it and use it.

  • How to export an interactive pdf from InDesign at a smaller file size.

I have a single page InDesign doc with a side navigation panel to the right of each page. This panel has interactive buttons created in InDesign.
When I export as an interactive pdf, the file size is over 27MB and I need it to be much lower.
I should mention that this doc was made from an original PRINT InDesign doc of facing pages, which was about 55MB.
When making it single pages for the interactive doc, the InDesign file size increased to 105MB.
Can anyone explain this and have any useful tips for saving the pdf down WITH interactivity working?
    Many thanks.

Okay - With the 15MB pdf, when I go into the PDF Optimizer dialog box, it's telling me that the Fonts are using 40% and the Acrobat Forms are using 29%.
Anyone know of a way I can reduce either of these???
    Many thanks in advance!

Making a interactive PDF from indesign, but it's too big. Tried to reduce file size in Acrobat, but it does not reduce file size.

Use the Optimize PDF command in Acrobat, it gives you more control. I think it's under the Advanced menu in Acrobat 9 Pro and File > Save As > Optimized PDF in Acrobat X Pro.
You might try playing around with different settings. You can also click the Audit Space button at the upper right to see if its from images or other things causing the file size problem.
Unfortunately, InDesign doesn't write interactivity in a very optimized way. You get better results with buttons, for example, creating them in Acrobat Pro and using the Duplicate command to duplicate them across multiple pages.

  • Interactive pdf in indesign with hyperlinks warning

create adverts that are interactive pdf in indesign with hyperlinks and mail to links and now we are assembling the document back together in the form of a book but on importing the pdf back into indesign we are getting the
warning: “this file may contain newer extensions or information than this viewer can support. it may not open of display correctly and cannot be changed.”
when the pdf imports the hyperlinks on the text work but the hyperlinks on the images are gone?
    Using version cs5 v7.0.4

@Steve – I'm not so sure about that.
At least the OP could experiment with Acrobat Pro's "Import as Layer" function.
With "Import as Layer" you could import another PDF to a new layer.
But I don't know if all the interactivity will stay in place and will be working.
    Did not test that yet.
See the screen where I did layer two different PDFs together. A German version and an English version of the same document:
"Import as Layer" is an option in the Layers at the sidebar of Acrobat Pro.
As you can see there are some options for positioning with "Manual positioning".

  • Interactive elements are not allowing the animations to play.

    Hello all...
I am using Cp4. In my quiz slide I have planned few animations(.swf & .gif) which will describe the question type that the slide contains. I want those animations to play continuously. I checked the loop property on to run them continuously. I don't want to increase the duration of the question slides but the animations should run continuously till the user attempts & submits the answer.
But the interactive elements which have pause(e.g. button, clickbox) are stopping the animations.
    Is there any solution ?
    Thanks & regards,
    Pullela.

    Hello Pullela,
Sorry, have something to finish soon, that is why I have no answer ready if there is one. This seems an issue similar but the opposite as when playing slide audio: that will stop when the user is clicking an interactive object. There I have a solution, put the audio to an object and it will continue to play. But do not see an immediate solution for your problem, seems interesting to explore and will do as soon as I have some time.

  • Interactive elements and even article zoom sometimes freezes on first page in Adobe Content Viewer r31.

Interactive elements and even article zoom sometimes freezes on first page of articles in Adobe Content Viewer release 31 (tested on iPad 3 and iPad Air). If user swipe to second page and return back to first page, all elements works normal again.
Interactive elements are mostly buttons for changing states of multi-state objects, or buttons for opening URL in build-in browser.
What could be the reason? Is there some bug in ACV r31? Or it alocates more memory for the application, so there is less memory left for the content? It wasn't happen before in r30.

hello, me the same thing is happening. I made a folio and he usually worked before the last update of content viewer. the multi-state buttons also freeze and take to work. This bug will be fixed in the next update?

  • Forms Warning with Interactive PDF from InDesign

    Hi all,
I have created an interactive PDF in InDesign CS5 with a series of buttons, and those buttons link to bookmarked pages within the document. These buttons are setup on one of the Masters. It seems that whenever I get more than 10 buttons on the master, I get the following warning when I open the exported PDF in Adobe Reader:
"Please Note: You cannot save a completed copy of this form on your computer. If you would like a copy for your records, Please fill it in and print it"
I don't have any form fields in the document that I am aware of. Is there any way to locate form fields if they do in fact exist?
Is there a limit of 10 buttons per master perhaps?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Glen

    Thanks Peter.
Is there a known workaround? I ended up using hyperlinks instead, I suppose there really is more than one way to skin a cat.

  • Interactive PDFs from InDesign

Has anyone created an interactive PDF with InDesign that has links to a specific page in a separate PDF? If yes, can you suggest where I might find good instructions to do this? I used Acrobat to create the links using relative paths and they worked fine as long as the PDFs were viewed with a browser, but when a reader downloads the first file from the web to their hard drive (making PDF "A" no longer in the same location relative to PDF "B") the links are then broken. So, I re-created the links in Acrobat using absolute paths for the links and the links work for me, but my client says they don't. Is there a better InDesign way to do this?
    Thnaks in advance,
    Suzanne Roberts

There are lots you can do. Unembed fonts for one. This would require using stock fonts like times, arial, geneva, monaco, etc. Optimized images in Acrobat.
There is plenty of info on the web. Check this google result from my search
