Interactive MSO's

just a quick one, with the latest tools did we get interactive MSO's? ie I have sliding text on one state and the other state is blank, so the button reveals the text
It's not working but I read some people have had issues with the tools, or do the new tools just give us buttons, video etc in sliding frames?
thanks
Alistair

MSOs are still pretty bare bones. I’m hoping for the ability to put more interactivity such as video or web overlays into them in the future.

  • How Do You PROOF or Create PROOFING for DPS (in a Compliance Workflow) When There Is Interactivity?

    Hello All,
I am stumped and would really like some help - if possible.
I have been working with DPS since the early days, and, do not have a consistent proofing mechanism to proof Folios, Articles, or Article Pages, when there is any interactivity - MSO, outboard Links, HTML5 objects or application, et, al.
Obviously, we use PDF (both print and interactive) for our workflow, and, at times manual printing of article pages, but, it takes a significant amount of time.
Adobe, now that they are placing all their resources into "Adobe Publish," is not in a position to answer this question, or give any short-term help.
    SO, PLEASE, HELP!!
If you have any answers, options, or have come up with novel workflow to work within a Compliance Workflow, your input would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Lain

    Hi Bob,
Thank you for getting back. Really appreciate your time and input.
Like any workflow, proofing is critical. No one wants a misspelled word or utilizing images that are incorrect. This is a Compliance Workflow. "Everything" within a Folio "must" be reviewed and proofread. The problem is how to easily create proofing when there is interactivity. Currently, there is not a workflow Adobe recommends - because there is not one for DPS - and, it is not an issue for Adobe. However, those of us who work within the industry, regardless of Publication or Private DPS Publication users (We have a DPS Enterprise Account), like we are, needs to have a workable workflow. I am certain Adobe has been working with their larger Publication clients on these issues.
Can you help me or recommend folks I might be able to communicate on this as it is becoming a real issue?
Thank you, again, for your time and input.
    Sincerely,
    Lain

  • Interactive audio button as mso within another mso (slideshow)

    Hello,
I have a tricky question and after researching in the forum I have not come across a solution yet. I have a picture slideshow playing automatically and on these pictures are a text box and a button to tap onto the next page. I set this up as a multi-state-object whereas every picture of the slideshow is a separate status. See here:
That works perfectly fine. However, I want to autoplay an audio file in the background but want to allow the user to manually pause it. This is why I created another multi-state-object including the audio file and 2 buttons (a grey crossed-out button to pause it and a red-orange button to continue playing). Please see this screenshot:
In another post in this forum I found out how to combine those 2 MSOs together: I anchored the audio button MSO in a small text frame and included that into my main MSO with the picture slideshow (into every single status!). Then I added all the functions to the buttons again (switch to status 2 red audio button, pause audio playing etc.). My problem is now that the second status of the audio button MSO (= red audio button) does never show up at all and the audio file starts playing from the start everytime the status in the pic slideshow MSO automatically changes.
Can somebody please help me or tell me if there is an alternative to that? Basically, I have an MSO running automatically and I want to automatically play an audio file but allow the user to manually pause and continue it by tapping on a button.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Bob,
many thanks for your feedback. However, that does not solve the problem as beautifully as I wanted. As you see in the screenshot below, I have now 2 buttons (1 for pause and 1 for play/continue playing). When I click on pause, it pauses. But when I click on play, the audio file starts playing from the start again. I set the button function to continue playing but that won't display then for whatever reason.
I would like to have 1 button that changes its appearance (pause / play - this is why I initially had a MSO) as well as pauses or continues playing the audio where it last was paused. Is that possible?

  • VERY STRANGE Interactive Report Filter Error

I have a very interesting problem happening with an interactive report in my APEX application. The report runs just fine and has been in use for about 6 months. Just recently, the users have begun to run into problems when using the filter capability within the report. There is a specific column heading (RH Analyst) that they typically click on and select a specific analyst name (the list contains 10 entries). Most selections from the filter list work fine. However, when one specific name is chosen, they get the dreaded ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small+*  error.
I have been working to narrow the problem down and have found the following:
    1. The filter error is related to the content of one specific column (not the one I am filtering on)
    2. The column that is causing the error is a CLOB datatype
    3. The data in the CLOB column was inserted into the database from a form utilizing an "HTML Editor Standard" type of item
    4. The data in the CLOB column was copied and pasted from an email that was being viewed using Outlook 2007
    5. If I try to recreate the problem with exactly the same information, but copied and pasted from Outlook 2003, I don't experience the problem.
    6. The only people experiencing this problem are people who have upgraded their system from Microsoft Office 2003 to Microsoft Office 2007
    7. When I try to load the form with the data that was stored in the database, I get a 404 page not found error. This is the same error that I get if more than 32k of data was saved into the CLOB.
The data pasted into the HTML editor from Outlook 2007 (_this is the data that causes problems_) and saved to the CLOB looks like this when I extract it in SQL Developer

    Roel,
Hey there! Hope you enjoyed your time off ;) Thanks for having a look...
Yes, of course I "could" update the functions, but this is NOT something I want to do. I'm one of those people that subscribes to Coding by Contract and the assertion routines at the beginning and end of my subprograms are an important part of that.
This may be a lack of understanding on my part with regards to the order in which Oracle does it's thing - or a bug in Apex... I'm able to duplicate the problem on apex.oracle.com: dmcghan/test/test.
Log into the demo app with admin/dmcghan. The home page has an interactive report, filter the name and you should get the error. When you look at the query you'll see a filter in the where clause that goes against the apex_collections table. This is populated from the post-authentication procedure. Let me know if you have questions.

  • What are the order of interactive objects

If you have two interactive objects on top of each other what are the rules regarding which shows up on top.
for instance if you have a MSO slideshow and you try to put a button on top it will disappear behind the MSO on the iPad, I can work round this by putting the button inside all states of the MSO
But are there any guidelines about which form of interactivity out ranks another?

In most instances, the z-order determines which overlay stays on top when overlays are in a stack. In your example, you mention that when you place a button on top of an MSO, the MSO covers the button. That's not my experience. In a quick test, I overlapped buttons and an MSO, and I moved the top buttons to the front and the bottom buttons to the back. Here's what I got:
In this example, DPS honors the z-order. You can interact with both the buttons (even if they're hidden) and the MSO.
When you overlap interactive objects such as image sequences, inline videos, and slideshows, the z-order of the source objects determines which objects move to the front. Activating an overlay brings it to the front of inactive overlays. If multiple overlays are activated, the z-order determines which object is in the front.

  • Interactive PDF in InDesign - works in Preview, not in export

Hello. I have a multi-state object set up. I've placed buttons over a central map on my page, with links to the proper multi-states in the object below. This works within the Preview Pane when I preview the interactivity. However, when i export non of the buttons bring up any multi-state.
Any ideas? What is changing between using the Preview pane within InDesign, and publishing the interactive PDF?
    I'm using InDesign CS5.5 version 7.5.3

I ended up creating a separate page for each State of the Multi-State object. A pain, yes, but it works, then you create the same illusion, but just have the buttons set to jump to a page and not a "state" within the same page. The MSO's are not that fancy that they should require Flash. I hope that Adobe works on this to make Interactive PDFs more robust in functionality, and in how we prep files. Creating a separate page for each "state" exponentially increases the document size.

  • Limit to number of states in an MSO?

I am working on a project that will include an extensive alphabetical index. I'm setting this up with a page for each letter with an mso with about 50 states (on each page) and a scrolling frame with about 50 buttons that control the states. I named the buttons to correspond with the names of the states and gave the buttons their actions after pasting them into the scrolling frame. I did this by selecting them in the layers palette. I checked my work and the buttons are pointing to the right states. The scrolling frame works but the buttons don't. What am I doign wrong? Thanks!

Just encountered a DPS article which we're planning to be the main navigation of the folio and, in order to create the interactivity, it looks like the correct way to have it work is an MSO with a large number of states.
We've started with one MSO with five states, and tried to have buttons within each state load a state in another MSO which would contain buttons to nav to the article in question - which isn't going to work.
So we could have a state in the main MSO with buttons that go to anothe state within the main MSO with a button that describes the link and takes you to the article in question.
The problem will be that if the original five states had say 10 buttons then we're up for 55 states in the resultant MSO - Are you with me so far?
The elements with the MSO will only be text boxes, but they'll be rasterised so will this cause problems in performance on iPad 1 viewers? Does anyone have a good general rule of thumb for the number of states which is going to start causing problems?
I know it's a bit of an open-ended question, but it's a fair chunk of work to create the MSO with buttons only to find it doesn't work.
    Thanks in advance,
    Simon.

  • Help with iPad interactivity in Indesign

    Hi,
I am creating an iPad app and need some help with the interactivity. I have 4 buttons on my page and each one, when pressed, shows a new box of information which I have achieved using the object states. I have also created a menu in the form of a scrollable frame which scrolls in from the left of my page. This is however, where I have a problem - because the frame that I drew for the scrollable frame to be placed into covers two of my four buttons, these two buttons don't appear to be working. Does anyone know how I can resolve this or any way to work around this problem?
    Many thanks,
    Steph

Redesign the page and consider using an MSO for the menu instead of a
    scrollable frame.

  • ID CS6 Interactive Pdf with buttons is coming up blank

Please help. I am making a resume after recently graduating college. I have made the entire resume other than the "portfolio" page. I wanted to make the page show small images of my work, than when you roll over them they expand to show a larger image. I wanted to do this to show my progression with InDesign to potential employers, however, when I save the entire resume as an interactive .pdf the last "portfolio" page shows up blank every time. I have trouble shooted the process dozens of times to the point I want to pull my hair out. I made another new file separate from my resume which shows a white page. I put two pics only and when I previewed the buttons they worked fine, just like on my resume, but when I export the simple two pic document to an interactive .pdf the page comes up blank or black. The furthest I have made it is to have the smaller pics show up and when I hovered over them the pointer turns to a hand but no larger image shows up. I know it is in the exporting process cause I can get the buttons to work perfectly in the preview. WHAT am I doing WRONG??? Thanks.

    Hi there,
Do you have any screen grabs of what is going wrong?
From what I can understand, the first page is your standard text resume and then on the second page you have your portfolio.
But your portfolio is not working. The rollover to expand to show a larger image may be the cause of your issue. I've had tear my hair out moments also with trying to do this.
You could try to have the button images along the top or side of your second page and then get them to load into a larger frame below or to the side of the buttons. You can do this using Multi State objects. This may get you out of the bind you're in now.
To get a Multi State object to work in an interactive pdf you need to export the MSO (Multi State object) to swf and then add that swf to your interactive pdf export that and then you should be in business.
I'm going to knock up a basic mockup of one and put a screen grab in the reply to better explain this.
I've got the buttons up on top, you click on these to move through the portfolio of images. I've got five you may have more or less.
Select all the images and add them to the media panel to make a MSO.
Select each of the buttons and in the buttons panel add an action to go to a state, do this for each of the buttons.
Export the MSO doc as a swf, create a new doc (same dimensions) add the swf and then export as an interactive pdf (make sure to set a poster image in the media panel otherwise you'll get a weird grey flash symbol in your pdf)
Open the pdf and test to make sure it's what you want.
Obviously your portfolio / resume will look a hell of a lot better than this, this is just a proof of concept.
Here is a link to the files I used as a test.

    Hope this all makes sense.
    John.

  • MSO 2010 Application deployment hangs if detection method for presence of deployment is specified

SCCM 2012 R2 is configured to deploy MSO 2010 to our systems, even the ones that already have it deployed. Regular deployment does not re-install MSO 2010 because it detects it already installed on a system, so I added "Detection Method" and configured
it to look for a file "mso_installed.txt" in C:\WINDOWS. A custom MS Office package was created to place this file into C:\WINDOWS during the setup as part of App deployment.
The logic is: if the app deployment does NOT find this file in C:\windows, it will force MSO reinstall. Introducing this method appears to hang the setup. I can see that deployment shows up in Software Center, content is downloaded, status changes to "installing"
and then nothing happens. Setup32.exe process appears to sit doing nothing - no change in CPU or MEM utilization. Eventually, the status changes to "Past due - will be installed".
We currently have a deployment that works, but doesn't have the detection method logic above. What could be causing this deployment not to work and if my method above is not ideal, what are my options for forcing re-install of the app, even if already present
    on the system?

  • How to close a fullscreen Weboverlay with a MSO

    Hi there,
for our Client we've developed a Fullscreen Overlay which replaces the Default Navigation (which works great). But we've the Problem that we can't Close the overlay completley.
We Show the overlay wih a MSO state, which works fine. Underneath in the state, which shows the fullscreen navigiation, is a button which acts as Close... it's purpose is to switch back to the default state with the overlay gone (which works if we disable user interaction on the Navigation overlay). The user should - and surley expects to - click anywhere on a empty Region in the Navigation to Close it again.
But the overlay is blocking the interaction with the underlying Close button in indesign.
We tried also with just an empty page covering Fullscreen - it is also blocking the complete underlying indesign objects from any interaction also the closing button
    Javascript interaction with Indesign Obejcts?
Is it possible to call the state object from within the weboverlay with JavaScript? To call a different state in the MSO which disables the Fullscreen overlay and unblocks the indesign objects?
    Best regards,
    Andy
p.s. Sorry about all the capitalized letters... german autocorrection Messing up

There is no way to communication from JavaScript over to other interactive elements from InDesign such as a MSO.

  • Layer static objects/text on top of interactive elements

is it possible to layer static objects/text on top of interactive elements (including scrollable slideshows or MSO) in INDD CC for DPS/Content Viewer?  The static objects (on their own layer) disappear when viewed on tablet in Content Viewer

    Thank you so much!

  • MSO over MSO

    Hello:
Using the new functionality on R18 about placing a different interactivity (video, audio, etc) in any stage of the MSO, is it possible to include another MSO in an specific object of a parent MSO?
For example, I have a catalog of clothing made with a MSO, and I swipe to move from shirts, sweaters, trousers, etc, but when I choose the trousers, I will show me a window with a trouser on blue and 3 tabs, each tab I tap, should change the color of the trouser. So, If I swipe to the next item, I could move to the next clothe.
    Any ideas???

I have a full page MSO (the states are images covering the whole page) which has a Scrollable Frame over it, acting as a menu. I need to place an icon at the bottom at the page which might keep "visible" over the whole thing, so I just set this icon to a 2 state object and added a fake button in order to have it visible. I had done this before in other articles, over other interactivity, and it worked fine. But now, over the full MSO, the Folio doesn't accept adding my article. As in the past days my Folio started having weird behaviours, not accepting an article which was working fine before, I just need to confirm this, before I start doing the article from zero again... "is it possible MSO over MSO??"
    Thank you again...

  • Interactivity behind other overlays

I think I know the answer to this but, if you have an overlay such a scrolling frame to make a slide out tray, and you have other interative content on the page already such as a button or an image sequence, it there any way to still access this interactivity if the container (which has no fill) for the slide out tray covers the other elements, as these slide out trays take up a large amount of space.

That is the case with others overlays such as MSOs but the empty region in the scrollable frame is the interactive zone.
You’re going to have to design accordingly.

  • Interactivity smooth scrolling pages

I'm sorry if this question has been asked before.
Is it possible to add interactivity (such as pan/zoom or slideshow) to a smooth scrolling page?
I tried to upload an article with interactive items to my folio but all i get is an error.
Thanks in advance for your help!

"Interactivity on smooth scrolling pages is no different than on any other pages."
Just to correct you there Bob, some interactivity is VERY different
You shouldn't be getting errors when uploading pages unless you've specified something wrong, but certain types of interactivity are tempremental when viewing.
Large MSO's - longer than page bleed don't work very well, they don't appear properly in certain views on the nav that sort of stuff, but the upload error shouldn't be to do with the interactivity
could you tell us the error message?
    Cheers!
