Interactive PDF / Email marketing

I have a 20 page newsletter that I'm sending out through an eblast. I have several paragraphs in the eblast summarizing exciting points in the newsletter. What I'm trying to do is where it says "read more on page 14" in the eblast, have a link that takes the viewer directly to page 20 instead of just opening the generic PDF. I'm also trying to make it so in the PDF version where it says "story continued on page 4" the reader can click that and it will take them to page 4 instead of having to scroll through the newsletter manually. Our newsletters are hosted on our website so we usually link to the website like: www.website.org/newsletters/fall2009 and the newsletter opens from there.
Does anyone know how to make this happen? I've never done it before and haven't worked with this type of PDF/email marketing so I'm at a loss. If you have any suggestions please send links to detailed instructions and be detailed so I can figure it out!

You will have to set up bookmarks and links to those bookmarks. Several folks should be around tomorrow who are good at this type of action, so please be patient.

  • Email button created in InDesign won't work on Interactive PDF. Anyone know a fix?

Hello there, I am trying to make a e-mail button work after its .swf file is imported into a new iD document and exported as a interactive PDF. I have tried various things and work around but I can not seem to be able top make it wrong. I ask iD twiter for help and after a conversation with them I was told to try here.
    OS: Windows 7, iD Version 9.2.1 x64
This is my process (Will include images and document files)
    1. Create simple solid color box object. Add a text title to the box and otline the text.
    2. Group the objects and make it into a button. Add a roll over appearance.
    3. Add "go to URL" action. One sample button URL is: mailto:test@email(dot)com, Second sample URL is: mailto://test@email(dot)com (the forum editor kept making links to this fake emails)
    4. Export iD document to .swf (Settings where default)
NOTE* Here the .swf open in chrome and the email buttons work fine as a .swf alone
    5. Import the SWF into a new iD file. Export this second iD file to an Interactive PDF (Seetings where default)
After doing this I click on the email buttons inside the interactive PDF but they dont start my email app (Outlook 2013) However every time I click either button a new empty Google Chrome window opens.
Here is a dropbox link to the files themselves, the type is outlines so no need to worry for missing fonts. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/fp76buzt98td8fy/4DD6tqImd9
I hope someone can help me getting this fixed. Http:// Link buttons work fine on interactive PDF's following this process. For soem reason the email ones are the only ones that wont work. I have to use this process because I am working with an interactive PDF that has an animated roll over menue that does not work with ePub so the only way for my project to work the way I want it too is by exporting .swf of the finished file, importing on a new iD file and re-exporting to a interactive PDF.
It was really hard finding anyhting related to this issue im having. Here is the only similar  issue I could find and it is from 2008! http://forums.adobe.com/thread/324167 I do hope I am the one doing something wrong here and not that Adobe has not fixed this .swf email links issue.
    Thanks for the help!
    -Sebastian

Alright thanks! Ok this is what happens in my end:
    - The interactive PDF you sent me works fine. The iD file opens fine as well and is exactly the same process so that checks.
-I exported your iD file to .swf, created a new iD document and imported the exported .swf file from the file you created. I exported this new document to interactive PDF. I open it and again I click the links and only google chrome windows open
This is the link it probably works fine on your end
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/on5tun0v0eunjhu/buttons%20email%20text%20swf%20imported%20to%20i nteractive%20pdf.pdf
I think there is something going on in my end. "Google Chrome" or "Flash" might be intersecting email links or something becuase I cannot get these .swf + interactive pdf combo to open the email client not even after I used your iD file, exported .swf, imported it and export again to interactive pdf.
Again the interactive pdf you sent works fine and when I export my file to interactive pdf it works on my end as well, its only after i export to swf and then I use the file inside iD and export to interactive pdf that it does causes me trouble. I will see what I can do to fix this. At least it was working for you so if its only in my end then its not that bad but it will bugg me forever haha!
Thanks again for your help!! Sorry to take your time Salah!

  • How do I create a button in an interactive PDF, which will forward the PDF via email?

    Hi,
So, I have an interactive pdf, with a share button. This button goes to the correct mail program and fills in the subject field.
But I can't find out how you can add the pdf as an attachment in that e-mail.
    Thanks
    Indy

    Hey vanhaelst,
You need to have Adobe Acrobat/Reader to attach PDF as an email attachment.
Select 'Send file as email attachment' icon from the toolbar (as shown below):
    Hope this helps.

  • Why does my InDesign CS6-created interactive pdf w/ email submit button no longer submit from Reader

Last spring I created a 6 page interactive pdf form to email my clients. At the end of the form, I designed Print and Submit buttons. I tested it in Reader and both buttons worked. However, now after revising some of the fields in the same form, the Submit button isn't working in Reader. A message pops up stating that only a data file will be sent, rather than the form. After clicking OK on that (although I do want entire form to be returned via Submit), an error pop-up states "This operation is not permitted."
What do I need to do to correct this problem so that clients can receive this form via email attachment, open in Reader and then return completed form via email submission? Do I need to open the pdf in Acrobat after converting from InDesign, and edit some feature there? Again, it is essential that my clients can open it in Reader. I have Googled this question but so far not found help.
    Thanks for your assistance!

    HI oliviat38527079
Seems that the hyperlink you created on the button to move to the next PDF is not working once it gets moved to a different computer via email, this happens when there is a change in the file path.  It works fine when its on our Mac Computer as the path is fixed because the PDF was created on the same computer, however the path gets changed once it is mailed to a different computer.
I would recommend you check the path of the hyperlinks & make sure they are fixed.
Suppose the path set in the hyperlink is C:\Users\NewFolder\PDF\file1.pdf , then the path of the file on the computer to which you have mailed it should be arrange in same manner so that the hyperlink works.
If its possible for you to share the PDF file then please do, so we can have a closer look & try to resolve your issue.
In case you any doubts please reply.
    Regards,
    Aadesh

  • Interactive PDF in an email body?

How can I insert an interactive PDF that I've designed in InDesign into gmail as the email body? Do I need to export it as another file type?

    Right^
HTML for email clients is practically a discipline all its own. Most of the methods that work best for it are no longer considered good practice for any other type of deployment. You certainly won't get it done with InDesign. It's tricky even with much more applicable tools.

  • Interactive PDF - Buttons stop working when emailed

    Hi there,
I have made an interactive PDF using InDesign CC.
I've checked in preview and once saved and all the buttons work and take me to the correct URL.
Once I email the PDF the buttons do not work, in fact they don't not even come up in the email. Please help!

The images that I have made in to buttons are not there once emailed.
I am aiming to send out a company newsletter and the buttons are for social media.
So I want to embed the PDF in to an email, and when you click on the Facebook, twitter etc icons I want it to take you to the correct social media pages.
I have set up the buttons correctly in InDesign as they work when I view the PDF, but once its emailed ( I sent it to myself as a test) the buttons are not there

  • When I email an interactive PDF with Page Turn, the receiver opens a blank PDF document.

    Hi there,
I am trying to create a digital lookbook for my client. Similar to the one here: http://www.cabionline.com/collection/look-book/
I've created the PDF in Indesign CS6. I exported as a .swf. Then I placed it back into Indesign and exported it as an interactive PDF. I can view the document on my computer and it works fine. But it won't work for anyone that I send it to.
    Any thoughts?
    Thank you!

This is the forum for Adobe Contribute. I'm not sure how that is involved with this issue.

  • Emailing video in an interactive PDF

    Hi,
I'm having an incomplete result from an interactive PDF made in InDesign CS5. I am using a MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.8.
I made a 1-page invitation. It has two images. One is static, one is Flash video. I imported the Flash, and then I used the Media window palette to add a Poster (the first, static pic) and a flash playback controller.
I exported the page as an interactive PDF. When I view the exported image in Acrobat, everything is fine. It is also crrect in Reader.
When I attach the PDF in Mail, Gmail or Yahoo mail, the frame containing the video is empty. What can make this happen, and how can I fix it?
    Thanks!

That works in one respect, Steve, since the unstuffed PDF will open in Reader or Acrobat. My goal, however, is to get the PDF to look correct when someone sees it in Mail. Is thee any way to do that?
    Thanks,
    Nicky

  • Interactive PDF on ipad

Hello I'm serching for a program, which can show me the interactive buttons, hyperlinks on an iPad or iPhone. I know, that adobe reader can do this till today and goodreader is not an option for me. I hope some of you can answer my question and help me.

Hi Steve, I understand this is not a recent post and the technology evolves very fast. You provided interesting options for PDF readers on the iPad. Unfortunately I think the root of the problen is for the ios to support most interactive functions of PDFs.
We are sending promotional material to prospective clients from our design studio in the interactive PDF format. As you know they read fine on PC and MAC laptops but lack some interactivity when viewed on iPads. I am surprised by the high number of execs. using iPads on the road and at home to view such documents. You see, when you pick-up mail on an iPad, it displays the file for you, and people expect to be able to interact with the file directly in the email program. We can't expect our target market to have special readers installed.
It sounds like all we can do is wait for the "tablet" readers to provide such capacity. I have read on other posts suggestions to build the document in "inDesign 6" (which we do) and add interactive buttons and navigation with "Acrobat Pro". We will investigate this route. Any other suggestion is welcome.

  • How do I create an interactive PDF file with variable data

We would like to basically do a 'mail merge' of our list of customers with an interactive PDF file (including videos, menus, etc - not just form fill out and web links) to create a single PDF file that contains multiple mail pieces ... one for each customer ... with each mail piece being customized for that customer.  Customizations would include different greetings (Dear Bob, Dear Dana, etc), as well as different charts based on data unique to the customer, different photographs, etc.
I've seen that InDesign and Acrobat Professional can be used to create an interactive PDF (such as from http://tv.adobe.com/watch/ask-the-adobe-ones/14-calling-rufus-about-interactive-pdf-making).  However I don't understand how I can insert data from a database, csv file, excel file etc into the PDF file so that each page, or each set of pages, within the PDF can be customized.
Can anyone point me to a tool to use for this?
    Thanks,
    Bob Kendall

For that kind of volume and unattended operation, you want InDesign Server – which is the server/high volume edition of INDD.

  • How do I create a downloadable link from an Interactive PDF file created out of InDesign CS6?

    Hello,
I created an Interactive PDF file out of InDesign and would like to make the large file a downloadable link and share it with the user in an email. I do not want to use DropBox or GoogleDrive.
The company I contract for has their own site - do I insert the file into the site or can I create a separate link for it?
I will be recreating these presentation PDF's constantly, so I would like to know if there is a simple way to create this link for files in the size of 7-12MB.
Any ideas on downloadable links? I do have flash - but rarely use, perhaps load the file out of flash?
Thank you so much for your help,
    Megan

    Hi Willie,
Thanks for your help. Most likely contact the company who maintains the
site then to share the file with them I'm assuming?

  • Extend SAP R/3 4.x with Interactive PDF Forms

    Hi there,
In this blog of Matthias Zeller <a href="http:///people/matthias.zeller2/blog/2004/06/22/the-hidden-secret-of-adobe-reader hidden secret of Adobe Reader</a> there is the following paragraph:
<i>While mySAP ERP 2004 provides many business scenarios using Interactive Forms out-of-the-box, a lot of customers have asked me how they can use the new Interactive Forms with existing R/3 applications. Therefore, I would like to encourage you to vote for my SAP TechEd presentation proposal ("Extend your SAP R/3 4.x applications with interactive PDF forms"). I plan to discuss how you can connect your existing SAP R/3 applications with SAP Web AS 6.40 to enable interactive form workflows.</i>
Can somebody tell me if this presentation is somewhere on SDN? Or can somebody tell me where i can find more information about this subject?
    Thx in advance.
    Regards Maarten.

    Hi Maarten,
Here's a brief run-down on how you could make use of SAP/Adobe Interactive Forms and Workflow:
    1) Remember that a form is really just a UI for collecting data.  A PDF form can be used to collect data online (connected to your SAP system) or offline, e.g. you could send it as a mail attachment, fill it in, and email it to a central point for uploading into the system.
    2) The main requirements for using SAP Interactive Forms are:
    a) A NW04 (6.40) or NW04s (7.00) WebAs (Java Stack) to run Adobe Document Services. This is the critical component that assigns ReaderRights to the document, e.g. so that the user can change the data and save it on the document.   You could run a WebAs like this alongside your R/3 4.7 - e.g. if you have an XI system or Enterprise Portal you could use that system to run Adobe Document Services.  Every form you create must be generated via the Adobe Document Services to get the Reader Rights. Note: Get a NW04s environment if you can - as this release has usefuul new features such as loading attachments to the PDF, using digital signatures, etc.
    b) A WebDynpro application to generate the Adobe form via Adobe Document Services, and to execute the Adobe Form when using online mode, and to upload offline forms.  Tutorials on how to do this are available in SDN - have a look at the Adobe section within WebDynpro. Note: From ECC 5.0 there are some standard WebDynpros apps provided, but in R/3 4.7 you will need to write your own.
    c) There's also a licensing requirement for any production custom forms (SAP provided forms and cosmetic changes to those forms are free) so make sure you get your SAP account manager involved to help sort out how your intended usage will fit in with your current license agreement and any discounts that may apply.
    3) To use the "form" with workflow has some additional requirements:
    a) You need to store the data entered via the form somewhere that is accessible by Workflow.  The easiest approach here is to use the standard form handling technique Internet Service Requests.  Transaction QISRSCENARIO will let you define all of the form fields, give you BADIs for doing validation, raising workflow events, etc.  Also from ECC 5.0 onwards using Adobe forms as the form entry is a standard option for this technique, so this will help reduce the upgrade impact when you eventually do upgrade.
    b) Assuming you use ISRs, have your WebDynpro App call the function module ISR_PROCESS_EVENT to pass the data to R/3 and do the validation checks.
    c) Assuming you use ISRs, you use the BOR object for notification such as BUS2078, as your main object for the workflow.  The form data is attached to the notification and can be retrieved using function module ISR_SPECIAL_DATA_GET.
    d) If you want to call your WebDynpro App from SBWP (I take you don't have Enterprise Portal?) then use transaction WF_EXTSRV to define the web service to call your WebDynpro app and generate a workflow task for it.  Also you must configure transaction WF_HANDCUST to enable R/3 to handle web services.  Note: If you do have the Enterprise Portal, you can use transaction SWFVISU instead.
I'd strongly recommend you read the ISR cookbook at http://service.sap.com/isr as well.   ISRs aren't the only way to use Adobe forms with R/3 but they are extremely handy if you want to use your Adobe form with Workflow.
As for Lotus Notes, you can use your WebDynpro app to generate and send/receive a form to/from an email address.  You can also put a hyperlink in your workflow task to call your WebDynpro app and use RSWUWFML2 (swap to Enhanced Notifications when you upgrade) to send out a mail with the hyperlink attached as per usual.
You'll also find some useful threads on Adobe forms and Workflow in the SDN BPM Forum.  So if you have workflow specific questions try raising them in the BPM forum.
    Enjoy!
    Regards,
    Jocelyn
