Interactive pdf in indesign with hyperlinks warning

create adverts that are interactive pdf in indesign with hyperlinks and mail to links and now we are assembling the document back together in the form of a book but on importing the pdf back into indesign we are getting the
warning: “this file may contain newer extensions or information than this viewer can support. it may not open of display correctly and cannot be changed.”
when the pdf imports the hyperlinks on the text work but the hyperlinks on the images are gone?
Using version cs5 v7.0.4

@Steve – I'm not so sure about that.
At least the OP could experiment with Acrobat Pro's "Import as Layer" function.
With "Import as Layer" you could import another PDF to a new layer.
But I don't know if all the interactivity will stay in place and will be working.
Did not test that yet.
See the screen where I did layer two different PDFs together. A German version and an English version of the same document:
"Import as Layer" is an option in the Layers at the sidebar of Acrobat Pro.
As you can see there are some options for positioning with "Manual positioning".

  • Forms Warning with Interactive PDF from InDesign

    Hi all,
I have created an interactive PDF in InDesign CS5 with a series of buttons, and those buttons link to bookmarked pages within the document. These buttons are setup on one of the Masters. It seems that whenever I get more than 10 buttons on the master, I get the following warning when I open the exported PDF in Adobe Reader:
"Please Note: You cannot save a completed copy of this form on your computer. If you would like a copy for your records, Please fill it in and print it"
I don't have any form fields in the document that I am aware of. Is there any way to locate form fields if they do in fact exist?
Is there a limit of 10 buttons per master perhaps?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Glen

    Thanks Peter.
Is there a known workaround? I ended up using hyperlinks instead, I suppose there really is more than one way to skin a cat.

Making a interactive PDF from indesign, but it's too big. Tried to reduce file size in Acrobat, but it does not reduce file size.

Use the Optimize PDF command in Acrobat, it gives you more control. I think it's under the Advanced menu in Acrobat 9 Pro and File > Save As > Optimized PDF in Acrobat X Pro.
You might try playing around with different settings. You can also click the Audit Space button at the upper right to see if its from images or other things causing the file size problem.
Unfortunately, InDesign doesn't write interactivity in a very optimized way. You get better results with buttons, for example, creating them in Acrobat Pro and using the Duplicate command to duplicate them across multiple pages.

  • Interactive PDF in InDesign

I create an interactive PDF in Indesign and when I export it as an Interactive PDF some of the text is missing in the PDF file. I changed the font to something universal like Times to see if it was a font issue, but the font still does not appear in the exported PDF.
How do I fix this problem?
    Thanks,
    ~V

I am having one of the issues mentioned. I have made two buttons. On mouse down they should open PDFs. When I export to PDF I make sure that I have 'Interactive Elements' ticked and Multimedia set to 'Embed All'. I would assume this should embed the two PDFs that are connected to the two buttons but it does not.
How do I embed the PDFs in the final PDF? I am using CS2.
    Cheers.

  • Hyperlinks are not working in Interactive PDF in InDesign CS5

Hi, I have a book that I previously in CS4 exported as interactive pdf, with Hyperlinks and buttons. Now in CS5 When I export it as Interactive PDF, the Hyperlinks don't function anymore (there are hyperlinks in the TOC to link to specific pages in the book) - if I export as Print PDf the hyperlinks funtion well, but the buttons no longer function (prev. Page, next page and so on)  Any suggestions?

    The process is as followed:
    Insert a 'Text box'
    Wrote Wesport in Text Box
Highlighted the word Wesport, right clicked and selected the hyperlink option
Selected the option to inset a website link
Pasted the whole link and pressed ok
The hyperlink then was shown in the document blue with an underline
Then selected the Adobe Printer through the Print option
The PDF was then created but hyperlinks did not work.
Hope thats is enough detail let me know if you need any more.

  • Interactive PDFs from InDesign 5.5 - hyperlinks not working at all!

I'm creating hyperlinks the way I always did in CS4 (type tool - hyperlinks panel etc) but when I export to PDF either through the new interactive PDF option OR the old print option switching on the interactive check box none of my hyperlinks work in Acrobat. I've checked the Adobe help menus and I don't seem to be doing anything wrong. Does anybody have any ideas? I've got 12 catalogues I need to make into interactive PDFs this afternoon and it's just too slow adding the interactivity in Acrobat (not to mention that if I have to edit any content I'll have to re-do all the interactivity each time). HELP.

I have found a way around this of sorts. Rather than right-clicking to bring up the hyperlinks menu I have to use the hyperlinks panel and specifically use the shortcut at the bottom of the panel. The dialogue box that pops up is slightly different to the one I get when going the long way round. I'm still kind of baffled, but it does seem to work...

  • Interactive pdf using Indesign CS5.5 problem with layering

    Hi all
I have designed an interactive pdf - not for the web. I have a problem layering out a page. On the page there are 6 buttons. Each button when pressed will bring forward a box containing content/information. When I designed the page using indesign cs5.5 I made sure the largest box of information was at the top of the layer. I thought this would be the cleanest way to present the page. By having the largest content box (each of the six content boxes are different sizes) at the top it would cover the other boxes. When I exported the file out the smallest box was at the top, then the secondest etc. It looks pretty messy.
Is there a way to ensure that the lagest content box is at the top when it exported to pdf????
    Regards

    Have patience!
Have you tried putting that largest box on it's own layer at the top?  I don't know much about buttons etc though, if you wait someone will come on here that does.  A lot of contributors are in different time zones though.....

  • Interactive PDF in InDesign - works in Preview, not in export

Hello. I have a multi-state object set up. I've placed buttons over a central map on my page, with links to the proper multi-states in the object below. This works within the Preview Pane when I preview the interactivity. However, when i export non of the buttons bring up any multi-state.
Any ideas? What is changing between using the Preview pane within InDesign, and publishing the interactive PDF?
    I'm using InDesign CS5.5 version 7.5.3

I ended up creating a separate page for each State of the Multi-State object. A pain, yes, but it works, then you create the same illusion, but just have the buttons set to jump to a page and not a "state" within the same page. The MSO's are not that fancy that they should require Flash. I hope that Adobe works on this to make Interactive PDFs more robust in functionality, and in how we prep files. Creating a separate page for each "state" exponentially increases the document size.

  • Embedded Video in Interactive PDF from Indesign (click to activate! grr!)

    Hi guys
I am trying to put together an interactive PDF newsletter which has a video and a small slide show in it.
I am pretty new to this interactive element of indesign.
The video seems to have embedded fine (it is a FLV file), but when I view the PDF and hover over it I get a click to activate message.  While this is useful in telling the user to click on it, I would much rather it was nicely greyed out with the small play triangle in the middle and worked when the user clicked on that.
I guess my issue is a presentational one mainly.  Does this make any sense to anyone?!
    Thanks

The way the PDF plays in Acrobat or Reader (this is what you're using, right?) is nothing InDesign has any control over.
So this really should be posted in the Acrobat forums. However, I don't believe there is any way you can modify this message, I'm afraid.

  • How to export an interactive pdf from InDesign at a smaller file size.

I have a single page InDesign doc with a side navigation panel to the right of each page. This panel has interactive buttons created in InDesign.
When I export as an interactive pdf, the file size is over 27MB and I need it to be much lower.
I should mention that this doc was made from an original PRINT InDesign doc of facing pages, which was about 55MB.
When making it single pages for the interactive doc, the InDesign file size increased to 105MB.
Can anyone explain this and have any useful tips for saving the pdf down WITH interactivity working?
    Many thanks.

Okay - With the 15MB pdf, when I go into the PDF Optimizer dialog box, it's telling me that the Fonts are using 40% and the Acrobat Forms are using 29%.
Anyone know of a way I can reduce either of these???
    Many thanks in advance!

  • Creating a Randomizer/Shuffle Button for interactive PDF in InDesign CS6 (PC)

I'm creating a set of flashcards in InDesign CS6 (on a PC) so there are two sides (question then answer). I'd like them to "flip over" using an interactive PDF. That's not the problem - the tough part is linking the two sides (ie pages) together and creating a "randomizer" button so the user can shuffle the deck of flashcards in a new order while keeping the question and answer pages of each card together. Is that possible with an interactive PDF? I'd appreciate any info! The company is printing the flashcards and then offering them in a digital format to it would be great to be able to use one document for both purposes.

Sorry, this is not possible in an interactive PDF file.
You could probably do with SWF. You could probably include it a tablet app using HTML5 and JavaScript.
    But not in PDF.

  • How can I keep the quality of an MP4 video high when I export an interactive PDF from InDesign?

I am making an Interactive PDF with embedded MP4 video using InDesign.  When I view the video in the PDF it has degraded the quality and the colour contrast is poorly affected.  I can have the video as a floating window but this gives a harsh black line around the video when it plays which is not acceptable.
Can anyone advise how to maintain the quality of the original video when it is embedded?

You can control the quality of the video (aspect ratio, pixel dimensions, frames/minute, etc.) by using the Adobe Media Encoder which comes with InDesign CS5 or later installations, including InDesign CC. InDesign only includes what you have placed and passes it on to the PDF file. There are no video quality controls in InDesign.
You cannot change the way Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader displays the MP4. If you don't like the way Acrobat/Reader handles display of a floating window, then you'll have to display it within the page. For more info, inquire in the Rich Media Acrobat forum.

  • How Can I disable page scrolling when creating an interactive PDF using InDesign?

I'm attempting to create an interactive PDF portfolio with links from the homepage to gallery pages and projects etc, but it seems useless if I can't stop the PDF pages from scrolling? Can anyone help?
I have InDesign CS5.5 and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
    Thanks,
    Elizabeth

    scrolling through the pages
There is nothing you can do to prevent a viewer from navigating on their own through a PDF. One method would be to have the PDF open in Full Screen mode, this hides the navigation tab. But a viewer can use their arrow keys to go page to page, ignoring the links within the PDF. And the viewer can hit the esc key to go back to normal view. Another option would be to use a swf export, indstead of pdf, but seriously depends on how you plan to distribute this portfolio.

  • Exporting PDF from InDesign with check boxes & name fields

We are a high production print shop and do most of our proofing via PDF. We email the customer a PDF and they print it out, show it to their customer, mark changes, and fax it back to us. We'd like to start letting the customers email their proofs back to us with a check box marked for either OK or Changes Needed, as well as a place for a name and date.
It appears that InDesign will not do this natively. I can make Acrobat do this, no problem. What I tried to do was to take a PDF of the "Proof OK" box with the check boxes and form fields and drop it into InDesign in hopes that the embedded PDF would hold it's interactive capabilities. It does not.
Is there a way to make this work like I need without a bunch of scripting in a language I don't know well? Taking the hundred or so proofs each day and manually making them interactive PDFs is not really an option for obvious time reasons.
    Thanks,
    Mike

This can't be done in ID, but I'd bet they can help you on the Acrobat Scripting forum. It shouldn't be too hard to do a script that only adds approval checkboxes and sets the document for commenting.

  • Can you create a interactive slide rule as an interactive PDF in InDesign?

I'm trying to create an slide rule tool as an interactive PDF (or swf if need be). So an object needs to be able to be selected and dragged vertically with a mask above it. I created this years ago in flash but ActionScript 2.0 no longer works and an interactive PDF would be a better format.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I think it would be best to create it in InDesign and export as a swf. Do you know if is there a script I could use drag the objects InDesign? Below is a link to the old swf created with ActionScript 2.0. I was just trying to avoid having to recreate it with Actionscript 3.0. Also, I placed the old one in InDesign and exported as an interactive PDF, and it worked. FYI
Here is a link of the current swf:
