Interactive PDF or SWF book

Hello All,
I have a book that has 35 documents in it. I have searched around trying to just get the short version on how to make it interactive. I realize that I can do it on one file. Before I get to far, can I do this with a book? Thinking a cover page with the interactive buttons and so forth?? I realize that I would have to set up each one with a page turn....ect.....
Is this possible?....or does it have to be just one big document??
Below is an example I found that someone created InDesign:
Thanks a bunch!!!!

Thanks, Frans.
There would clearly be various options for creating that kind of content in HTML5, but a particular request was to have a sort of eBook that people could load up on a tablet and annotate their own version. Do you know what elements of the brief we would have to sacrifice in order to have an annotatable eBook?
If we were to use DPS and Edge, would it be exporting to plain HTML5, or would there be any other options?

  • Interactive PDF with .swf issues

    Hi,
Currently I am a graduating Senior in college and am trying to put together a PDF Portfolio for a few events and job applications. I had created a full page animation within InDesign CS5, and exported to a .swf.
When I place the .swf into the document, it is at full page size. However when I export the file an Interactive PDF, the animation appears with a one inch white margin around the full page animation.
I had gotten the animation to work once before, but unfortunately I forgot the process and cannot locate the tutorial online...and still being in school revisions (and due dates) are approaching. The settings for both the .swf and Interactive PDF are left to their default settings when I export them.
    Thanks for the help!

    Did you resolve this?
I'm having the same problem and can't fathom out how to correct it.
Any help would be hugely appreciated!

  • Interactive PDF with SWF animation goes white between pages

I am creating an interactive PDF in Indesign CC 2014, each page contains a SWF animation. The PDF is set to turn to the next page every few seconds. I get a white screen between pages. HELP! I don't know where this could be coming from.

SWF files take time to load. That’s probably what you’re seeing and
there’s no way to avoid it.

  • Interactive PDFs and swf animation

    hello,
I have created some animation to work in an interactive PDF which is in SWF format so it will work.
The problem I have is that I want to animation to play each time the page is visited within the document in acrobat, not just the first time the user goes that page and then it be fixed in the complete animation view.
I thought I might be able to make a button that would be a 'click to play' button, but the buttons don't have the option to play SWFs, only to play animation which I can't use as it has to be SWF animation to work in an Interactive PDF.
So is there another way to make the animation play more than once?
    many thanks,
    Chrissy

  • Making an interactive pdf with animations and a video?

    Hi Everyone,
I'm working in InDesign CS6 and I've made a interactive pdf with swf animations, exported it to an interactive pdf and everything works great from the little animations to the page curl. Now, I would like to put a video in on one of the pages.
I've placed it as a .mov and a .mp4, exported as a .swf. It works great in the swf and the html file. It even works great when I export the video page as a interactive pdf by itself.
BUT, when I export all the pages in my doc (with the animations and the video) as a swf, then RE-import into ID, to export as a interactive pdf... the pdf only gives me a static window. ALL the other animations and page curls work though.
So there's a disconnect between the video and going from a swf to a interactive pdf.
Can anyone tell me what step I'm missing or if this just isn't possible yet?!
    Thanks so much!!!

Without seeing actual file, it´s hard to say what´s going on... but have you chekced that Flash Player in Acrobat finds your video? When you export SWF from InDesign, videos or any other placed rich media files are not embedded into the SWF. InDesign creates a resources folder next to SWF and stores those media assets into that folder. If you don´t have that folder same place with exported SWF, you will have problems.
If you place your video file into your layout and export as PDF, there shouldn´t be any problems. But if you place your video file into your layout, export as SWF, place that SWF back to InDesign and then export as PDF... then you will lose the connection between resulting PDF and resources InDesign created.
One way to solve that is to use public URL for placing videos. Thwn you won´t need actual video file stored locally. Downside is that Acrobat/Reader may throw an alert about that.
Another way is to open your Interactive PDF to Acrobat, select placed SWF and embedd resources folder into PDF manually.

  • Can you create a interactive slide rule as an interactive PDF in InDesign?

I'm trying to create an slide rule tool as an interactive PDF (or swf if need be). So an object needs to be able to be selected and dragged vertically with a mask above it. I created this years ago in flash but ActionScript 2.0 no longer works and an interactive PDF would be a better format.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I think it would be best to create it in InDesign and export as a swf. Do you know if is there a script I could use drag the objects InDesign? Below is a link to the old swf created with ActionScript 2.0. I was just trying to avoid having to recreate it with Actionscript 3.0. Also, I placed the old one in InDesign and exported as an interactive PDF, and it worked. FYI
Here is a link of the current swf:

  • Please please help! White border in interactive PDF

Hi Everyone, Please someone help me as its driving me mad! I have an interactive PDF with SWFs added via SWFPresenter script- all the animations work  (each picture fades in as expected) but instead of it being full screen (as in the first screenshot), it has a large white border (as in second) Any ideas would really help me!!
    Thanks

    Moved to InDesign forum.
When you export you will note that you export an Adobe PDF. There's a reason for that.
Mac Preview is fine for a plain vanilla PDF but it ends there.

  • Problem with Hyperlinks - Creating Interactive PDF from an In-design Book

Im working on producing a Interactive PDF from an In-design Book which consists of 9 Indesign Documents.
The problem I am having is with Navigation when I export the pdf

When I export out to 'print' pdf the hyperlinks DO link to other documents but the buttons to 'Go to next page' no longer work

Thanks for the reply. I got the IT to upgrade to 5.5 and it now works. Rather an annoying bug for CS5 though

  • How can I make the SWF page in my interactive PDF keep the page change on-click

    Hi there,
I'm creating an interactive PDF presentation for a client, and I've spent some time learning how to animate the text for certain slides, export to SWF and place that SWF back in the InDesign file. I then export to an interactive PDF to display in full screen mode. The problem I'm having is that I can cycle forward through the PDF slides by clicking until I reach the SWF page, but then the hand cursor changes to an arrow and I can't move the presentation forward in full screen mode.
I'm sure there's an easy fix, I just can't work it out. I'd be really grateful for any help.
    Many thanks
    Andrew

Bob: it will be a PDF presentation fed from a laptop to a large display screen with about 50 slides (1920px x 1080px) to support a speaker (person). Most of the slides are static text or image slides, but where we want images to fade in/out we've created an SWF and dropped it into that page in InDesign.
Trevor: Many thanks, just checked that and those settings are correct.
Jeffrey: I just tried your advice but the problem remains.
The strange thing is that if I press enter each time the slides (pages) move forward properly, but any touch on the mouse and the whole thing won't move... I'm going to look to see if I can drop in other video formats instead.

  • SWF files in InDesign for export as Interactive PDF

I am creating an interactive PDF file which contains a multi-state slide show with navigation buttons that I created in InDesign. Since that will not display and "work" in an interactive PDF I exported a .swf file of the slide show to place in the final InDesign page layout. The interactive PDF works just fine when viewed in Acrobat, but the .swf file of the slide show moves around and changes scale depending on the view scale in Acrobat so that it no longer stays where it was intended in the InDesign layout. I suspect that I exported the .swf slide show from the InDesign file incorrectly but I can't figure out what the peoblem is.

What version of InDesign? Is it fully patched?
There was a bug in the initial release of CS5 that caused this type of behavior but it was fixed in a dot release.

  • Interactive pdf with movies/swf files doesn't work in up-to-date Acrobat Reader

Hi, I've a CS6 InDesign doc with movies (MP4's from a URL) and a few swf files. When exporting as an interactive pdf, all the links, movies, swf's work fine in my Acrobat Pro. They work fine on other peoples PC's with Acrobat Pro. But on all my clients PC's with up to date Reader, the movies are playing slow, and the pdf just doesn't work as expected. With links to next page etc not working either. They have up dated their Flash Player too. Still not working well.
Is there a magic fix? Can I re-save this pdf differently so they can experience all the interactive features properly?
I created a similar pdf last year from CS5, but adding in the movies & links on the pdf. Do I have to do this again?
Yours, mostly quite fed uply, Gina !

Is it possible that your client's PC is just a very slow machine? You might consider cutting out some of the interactivity if your PDF is to complex to be handled by less powerful machines.

  • InDesign CS5 Book to Interactive PDF

    Hi all,
Now in InDesign CS5 there is a more convenient option under File > Export... to make interactive PDFs with links, buttons, etc.
In exchange, in the traditional PDF Presets export workflow there are some changes, in the dialog box. Now there is an option "Interactive elements" and two options: "Export appearance" or "Not include".
That means that when I am dealing with an InDesign document with buttons, if I choose to make the PDF with the traditional way, I have to choose either if preserve just the appearance of buttons (but they no longer work) or just exclude them. OK...
Then I use File > Export... and choose Interactive PDF, then everything it's just OK.
BUT.... I am making an InDesign CS5 Book, where every file involved has buttons. In the Book window, I can export the whole book to PDF, but using the old-fashioned way that either includes just the appearance of buttons or excludes them! I'd like to export my Book into a fully interactive PDF
So what can I do?  or what am I missing?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Ignasi

When you choose to export the book out of the ID Book file, choose Interactive. The same settings come up as exporting the interactive PDF out of the individual ID file.

  • How to keep a flash swf file flipped in InDesign export to interactive pdf...???

When I export a file to interactive pdf or another swf file it does not show the flipped version of the flash file imported in it.It shows the original unflipped version!!!.. what should i do???

from the Premiere Pro Help section about importing SWF files:
" Interactive content and scripted animation are not retained. Animation defined by keyframes in the main, top-level movie is retained."

  • How do you enable zoom in an interactive PDF (SWF) file created in InDesign?

I'm putting together a scrapbook for a few friends in InDesign CS5. I added a page turn transition and enabled page curl when I saved it as a SWF file, but when I was viewing the project, because it's a SWF video file, I couldn't zoom in and read the notes on each page. Is there a way to add a zoom button or enable zooming another way? Or is there a way to add the page curl to an interactive PDF version?

    good question ;-)

  • Interactive PDF not supporting .swf

We are currently producing an digital publication in InDesign CS5 that we would like to export as an interactive PDF.  The only way to get this to work, was to export as a Flash .swf, then place that into a new Indesign document, then export THAT as an interactive PDF.  Everything works great that way, EXCEPT any objects in the original document that are .swf, do not show up in the final PDF.  Is there a work around on this? Basically, a .swf-in a-swf works, swf to PDF works, BUT swf-in a-swf-to-PDF Doesn't work!

There are about fifty buttons that hide/show the various swf objects.  So all the buttons would have top be relinked somehow. The swf is a scrolling text window, so we could potentially get rid of it, if we figured out how to do a scrolling text window within InDesign?
