Interactive PDF Question

Hi all,
I'm trying to create an interactive pdf using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro
I'm trying to create either through buttons or a drop down list, items when selected reveal other information.
If I use sandwiches as an example, I want the pdf to display the sandwich names like this
Egg Mayo
Tuna Sweetcorn
Cheese & Onion
I want it to be that when you click on the sandwich option a text field appears which shows the nutritionanl information etc for that sandwich.
I know you can do it with the show/hide option but this way you have to leave a lot of blank space and does not look very professional for the end user.
Any suggestions?

If you mean that you want to "re-flow" the document when a selection is
made, it's not possible, unless the entire contents of the file is located
in form fields. The other option is to create a dynamic form using
LiveCycle Designer, but that's a whole other story.

  • Interactive pdf-questions from InDesign 6

I have some issues making a interactive pdf in 6 - my client wants the following (witch I cant be able to figure out how to do, or even if it is possible):
    - I have some trouble making spesial caracters in the final pdf (in this case ÆØÅ - I´m Norwegian) - how do I make these letters work?
    - Can you somehow make the date-section so that it automaticly comes out the right "date"-way when people type there?
    - Can you do the same with numbers: fields that represents a sum of money?
    - Can you add the numbers of two or more fields automaticly together, making an automatic sum? In this case prices of carparts, and adding a 25% taxes and giving the final ammount all together (ExCell-style)
    I´m using MacBook Pro 10.7.5, InDesign CS6.
    Thank you for any comments....

InDesign can make basic PDF forms, but in your case it might be easier to take the PDF to Acrobat, and then add formats and formulas to the fields.
I think that you should use Acrobat to fine tune the exported PDF. See http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/creating-distributing-pdf-forms.html

  • INTERACTIVE PDF QUESTION - Scrollable Text Area

I am trying to do my resume in a interactive pdf and need more room than my page offers.
Is there a way to make a interactive pdf with a text box in place that has hidden text that can be scrolled up or down to read.
Basically make the text area look like a placed web page within the interactive pdf with scroll bars.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Joe

If you want the scrollable text in the interactive pdf, and you are using indesign to create it do like this
    Export to interactive pdf
Open the pdf in Adobe livecycle Designer and create textbox where you want and remove the Limit Text checkbox
Then Export it to the pdf
I think it will solve your porblem

  • Specifying Question and Answer fields in Response sheet from Pre-existing Interactive PDF

I am creating a new form from an existing interactive pdf, which has text boxes to supply answers. How can I get the response sheet to reflect the questions that are in the pdf? That is how does FormsCentral determine what the question and answer are in a pre-existing interactive pdf that is uploaded? Right now it is either putting the answers in the column next to the question or selecting the wrong heading when users respond and the response sheet is populated.
    Thanks!

I'm not quite sure I understand your issue. FormsCentral create the columns in the Response Table using the field's name in the PDF.
You might want to make sure that the fields are names correctly (using Acrobat) before importing the PDF in FormsCentral.
You can also send your original PDF to [email protected] so that we can try to import it on our side and see what can be wrong. Please add a reference to this forum's thread in your email.

  • Animated Text In Interactive PDF, also question about SWF distribution

Hello Forum.......first post, so hi to everyone
I have created a indesign cs5 document that has some animated text flying in from the left upon mouse clicking, if i export it to a SWF it works fine but if i export it to an interactive PDF the text is already in place. Is it possible to have animated text in an interactive pdf?
Another question I have is regarding swf files, i need to create some presentations for our sales guys to run on their lap tops while out at clients, when i export it you get the resources file and the swf file....rather than just dropping these into a folder on their laptop is there a slicker way to package it in some kind of projector file.
It would also be nice if in the future I could put the presentation onto a CD and have it auto launch the presentation.
If anyone could give me some basic pointers it would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    James

    Hi, George.
Thank you for your help and reply.
It seems that the Lightbox effect may be complicated to achieve with Acrobat in a relatively simple way. Is it possible to accomplish a similar effect using InDesign CS5 and Acrobat Pro 9 ? I would like to click on certain elements of my PDF document (images or text) and have a window of a pre-specified size (approximately 800 wide x 600 high) open in the center of the screen.
Can I do this in InDesign ?
One other things I noticed is the ability to embed html code in Acrobat. Can this be used to accomplish this effect ? Can a window be opened in the center of the screen triggered by a button in a PDF file so that this window functions as a browser and displays another document downloaded from web address (file located on a server) ?
    Thank you again,
    Joe.

  • InDesign CS3 Interactive PDF print question

I have created an InDesign document with interactive PDF elements, one of which is a layer with a button that covers the entire document size (11" x 8.5") and has a single page 11" x 8.5" PDF placed on the layer that is to be printed. This has been designated in the States palette / Button Options / General by selecting "Hidden but printable" in the "Visibility in PDF" dialog box. No Behaviours are added. This has worked beautifully.
My problem is that now my client wants to add a second page that will also print, and I can't seem to accomplish this. I have tried several things:
    – adding a second page to the original PDF placed on the layer under the button -- the second page does not print.
    – on the same layer, under the button placing a second, separate PDF of the new page directly under the originally placed PDF -- the second page does not print
    – adding a second layer just below the first, set up exactly the same as the original one described above with a PDF of the new page I want to print -- the second page does not print.
Is it possible to do what I want, and can anyone advise me? Thanks!

Carol, I did change a few things in the attached PDF that are different from the instructions that I first posted. After I re-read your post, you said that the image that you want the user to print would cover the entire page. In that case, you wouldn't need to have the second action of hiding the print images applied to the buttons for roll off. Those images are hidden when you click on the print image, and then you go back to the original state.
As for the sizes, the print images are the same size as the presentation portion of the PDF. The print images are hidden until a user would engage them. I have taken this approach one step further. In Acrobat, I have assigned an action for the button to bring up the image as well as engage the print dialog box. Then, once the printing is completed, the user returns to the original state of the presentation PDF, hiding the print image.
I have created this type of presentation for the scenario of having a user view a PDF if it were a slideshow (reverse type on dark background), but allowing the user to print from the PDF a page better suited for a laser printer (black type on white background).

  • EXPORTING an interactive PDf in Indesign question...

I'm exporting from ID 5 to an interactive PDF. I've got swfs in there, & rollovers, that are not meant to be seen on the initial page. They export fine in the final PDF, but the problem is, when the PDF initially opens, these rollovers all 'blip' on the screen for a second before vanishing to their proper opening state. Can anybody help me w/ this? I've even selected the "Hide Until Animated" feature on these rollovers, but this doesn't help.
    HELP!

Also, I've made sure they aren't set the events to "On Rollover," NOT "On Page Load."

  • Muse/Acrobat question about interactive PDFs linked to in Muse...

So I made a link to email, gave it a blue rollover state, exported this in an interactive PDF which I then have a link to in Muse. When you click on it, it opens in a new window/tab, w/ this weird gray color behind it. Any ideas how I can remove this? See link below for a visual:

    Thanks!

When a PDF is opened in a browser, it can either use Acrobat/Reader, or something else such as the default PDF viewers in Chrome and Firefox. If it is being opened in one of these non-Adobe PDF viewers, be prepared for behavior that's different than it is in Acrobat/Reader, especially with interactive elements. The one in Chrome is better than the one in Firefox.

  • Interactive PDF on IPad app created with Digital Publishing Suite

Can someone tell me why I can create an Interactive PDF in InDesign, send it to Adobe Forms but not be able to have an Interactive PDF form on an IPad App built with InDesign? Is having an Interactive (by that I mean, adding a name and address and answering questions in the form of text and checkboxes and submitting) form on an IPad at all possible using InDesign? Aaarrrrgggghhh!
    Barb

I have a 5 part questionnaire which is included in an IPad app built with InDesign. The recipients of the questionnaire answer the questions, add their name etc. They will visit this questionnaire on a monthly basis for 6 months, and each month a copy of the questionnaire is to be submitted to 3 different people. The responses of the questionnaire will need to be maintained for editing and updating each month.

  • Interactive PDF stopped working after upgrade to Safari 7.1 (i.e. all Mavericks users), Suggestions?

We have a set of interactive PDF forms that our users access via the web.  We have to use the PDF forms online because they are configured to pre-fill basic information that is acquired from our database/information system, which our users can only access via a web-based interface (i.e. no client).  Furthermore, when we save/submit any of these forms, the resulting FDF needs to also be tied to whatever record the user is working on (again, via the web-based interface).
It appears that the Adobe plugin for Macintosh only works for Safari, and 90% of our users are on Macs... so for the last few years we have recommended Safari as the only browser that will work for any Mac user one who uses these forms.
However the Adobe plugin doesn't appear to be working very well with the latest update of Safari (7.1).  We can open the forms online, and all the pre-filled data is present, and initially we are able to interact with our form and we can even save/submit.  However at some point we simply lose the ability to interact with any of the fields (i.e. after a few minutes of initial use, or if we attempt to edit after re-opening a saved form).  Strangely enough - we can still cut and copy text, and the save button still works - but that is about it... no typing or clicking radio buttons etc..
And as Mac users are probably aware, the Safari 7.1 upgrade is tied to the Mavericks OS upgrade - and you can't really just go back to an older version!
    Questions:
    1) Can Adobe be made to work on a Mac with any browser other than Safari?
    2) Are there any other Mac users who use interactive PDF's in Safari 7.1?  And if so, are you having (or did you have) any issues and how did you fix them?
    3) I have created all our interactive forms on Adobe Pro 9.0 (which I only use to maintain these forms).  Until now I have had no reason to upgrade... but could the older version of Pro be part of our problem?

  • How to print a scrollable, interactive PDF file

I've had an interactive PDF application form built. Works great for the applicants, as boxes allow scrolling so that applicants can add detailed info where relevant. However, now that the completed applications are flowing in, I can't figure how to print them (as part of the application review process) so that they display/print all the content in the scrollable boxes. Am I missing something? Any assistance would be appreciated.

This is really a user question for whatever program you are using to print
the PDF forms - it's not really an issue of the PDF language.
Assuming you are using Adobe Acrobat, please post in our Acrobat forums.

  • Extend SAP R/3 4.x with Interactive PDF Forms

    Hi there,
In this blog of Matthias Zeller <a href="http:///people/matthias.zeller2/blog/2004/06/22/the-hidden-secret-of-adobe-reader hidden secret of Adobe Reader</a> there is the following paragraph:
<i>While mySAP ERP 2004 provides many business scenarios using Interactive Forms out-of-the-box, a lot of customers have asked me how they can use the new Interactive Forms with existing R/3 applications. Therefore, I would like to encourage you to vote for my SAP TechEd presentation proposal ("Extend your SAP R/3 4.x applications with interactive PDF forms"). I plan to discuss how you can connect your existing SAP R/3 applications with SAP Web AS 6.40 to enable interactive form workflows.</i>
Can somebody tell me if this presentation is somewhere on SDN? Or can somebody tell me where i can find more information about this subject?
    Thx in advance.
    Regards Maarten.

    Hi Maarten,
Here's a brief run-down on how you could make use of SAP/Adobe Interactive Forms and Workflow:
    1) Remember that a form is really just a UI for collecting data.  A PDF form can be used to collect data online (connected to your SAP system) or offline, e.g. you could send it as a mail attachment, fill it in, and email it to a central point for uploading into the system.
    2) The main requirements for using SAP Interactive Forms are:
    a) A NW04 (6.40) or NW04s (7.00) WebAs (Java Stack) to run Adobe Document Services. This is the critical component that assigns ReaderRights to the document, e.g. so that the user can change the data and save it on the document.   You could run a WebAs like this alongside your R/3 4.7 - e.g. if you have an XI system or Enterprise Portal you could use that system to run Adobe Document Services.  Every form you create must be generated via the Adobe Document Services to get the Reader Rights. Note: Get a NW04s environment if you can - as this release has usefuul new features such as loading attachments to the PDF, using digital signatures, etc.
    b) A WebDynpro application to generate the Adobe form via Adobe Document Services, and to execute the Adobe Form when using online mode, and to upload offline forms.  Tutorials on how to do this are available in SDN - have a look at the Adobe section within WebDynpro. Note: From ECC 5.0 there are some standard WebDynpros apps provided, but in R/3 4.7 you will need to write your own.
    c) There's also a licensing requirement for any production custom forms (SAP provided forms and cosmetic changes to those forms are free) so make sure you get your SAP account manager involved to help sort out how your intended usage will fit in with your current license agreement and any discounts that may apply.
    3) To use the "form" with workflow has some additional requirements:
    a) You need to store the data entered via the form somewhere that is accessible by Workflow.  The easiest approach here is to use the standard form handling technique Internet Service Requests.  Transaction QISRSCENARIO will let you define all of the form fields, give you BADIs for doing validation, raising workflow events, etc.  Also from ECC 5.0 onwards using Adobe forms as the form entry is a standard option for this technique, so this will help reduce the upgrade impact when you eventually do upgrade.
    b) Assuming you use ISRs, have your WebDynpro App call the function module ISR_PROCESS_EVENT to pass the data to R/3 and do the validation checks.
    c) Assuming you use ISRs, you use the BOR object for notification such as BUS2078, as your main object for the workflow.  The form data is attached to the notification and can be retrieved using function module ISR_SPECIAL_DATA_GET.
    d) If you want to call your WebDynpro App from SBWP (I take you don't have Enterprise Portal?) then use transaction WF_EXTSRV to define the web service to call your WebDynpro app and generate a workflow task for it.  Also you must configure transaction WF_HANDCUST to enable R/3 to handle web services.  Note: If you do have the Enterprise Portal, you can use transaction SWFVISU instead.
I'd strongly recommend you read the ISR cookbook at http://service.sap.com/isr as well.   ISRs aren't the only way to use Adobe forms with R/3 but they are extremely handy if you want to use your Adobe form with Workflow.
As for Lotus Notes, you can use your WebDynpro app to generate and send/receive a form to/from an email address.  You can also put a hyperlink in your workflow task to call your WebDynpro app and use RSWUWFML2 (swap to Enhanced Notifications when you upgrade) to send out a mail with the hyperlink attached as per usual.
You'll also find some useful threads on Adobe forms and Workflow in the SDN BPM Forum.  So if you have workflow specific questions try raising them in the BPM forum.
    Enjoy!
    Regards,
    Jocelyn

  • Zoom buttons in flash for a interactive PDF file

hi i have created a interactive PDF in indesign CS5 and i'm exporting it as a SWF but my issue is that indesign dose not allow you to create a zoom in and out function: please see example in link http://www.mentalhealthcommission.ca/annualreport/
it is the toolbar at the bottom i'm intersted in. dose any one have a example or tutorial that on how i can include this in my interactive file.

    Hi.
I'm not sure about what to you mean. But I create first the crossword with Excel, I mean to put the words in the right order and the questions and/or cue too. Then I create a table in InDesign and format some cells with black background and some borders. I upload both captures, from Excel and from InDesigne. Then with Adobe X Pro I create a form, so I can create singles inputs for the crossword.
I hope i understand your question.

  • Interactive PDF created in CS6 InDesign data collection issue

Created an interactive form from within CS6 InDesign. Uses text fields and check boxes with a submit button to forward the completed form to an email address. When tested in Acrobat Reader, the collected information will not be submitted, just a copy of the form -- blank. Any obvious solutions to this, perhaps a step I missed when creating in InDesign?
Also, my submit button creates an email to send with form completed data input, and attachements too, can then be included. Is there a way to bypass the attachements step for the email and simply have an Include (browse) for attachements while within the interactive PDF?

Which version of Adobe Reader are you using for testing purposes? Adobe Reader XI introduced the ability to save filled out PDF forms and submit them. For earlier versions as far as I'm aware you'd need to create a Reader Extended PDF, which is something you can do in Acrobat, not InDesign.
    If you have Adobe Acrobat:
Open the PDF form you created in InDesign then
File > Save as Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools... and test it in Adobe Reader again.
To answer your second question, not that I know... (neither in InDesign or Acrobat).
However, if you have a copy of Adobe LivecycleDesigner, you can add a form object that can be used by users to include attachments.

  • Can someone help me in building an interactive PDF form with dynamic bounding box?

    Hi Guys,
I need to create an interactive PDF form which will contain images, text and fields.
This is how it would be laid out:
    Header Image at the top.
Below that a Text Box with a question "Choose the number of licenses" and a drop down option from 1 to 10.
Depending on what they select, I need the following to be displayed.
The following should be encapsuled by a bounding box.
    If "1" is selected. "Username: <blank field>    Password: <blank field>
Then a button which says "Click Here To Login To Your New Account".
The bounding box should end here.. and I have more text and images below.
This I could achieve! But now if I select "2" I would need the bounding box to automatically become taller to accommodate two rows with "Username <blank> Password <blank>
The bounding box needs to expand or contract based on the number selected in the drop down.
Would love to here your thoughts on this!
    Cheers,
    Rajiv

If you were to look at the spec for PDF, you'd see that that is probably not possible with a PDF file.
But, I encourage you to ask this question in the Acrobat PDF Forms forum where the forms experts reside, and perhaps they could suggest an answer. JavaScript can be used, and perhaps that's the answer:
