Interactive PDF Shopping List

Hi all!
I'm trying to create a shopping guide for an arts festival and I'm trying to find out if I can create an interactive PDF that will allow users to click a checkbox next to the profile of each artist they're interested in, which will in turn populate a "shopping list" of artists that they can print out. I haven't played around too much to try to do this, but as I am a newbie any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Selena

If your a PC user go back to the Main forum page and click on button captioned Acrobat LiveCycle Designer and locate appropriate forum
what You need is to save files as FDF files that are loaded to a special Server Adobe has Then you can either extract the information or keep a empty copy of the Form and have it generate a pdf for each input.
Under Macintosh go to advanced menu choose extend features in Reader. send an email to each (not more than 500) or upload to a website and have them download fill in save and email back to you only first 500 is allowed per each different Pdf created.
Note if you have to go through the LiveCycle Route you may have to subscribe to a rather expensive server Aodobe uses for just this type of thing.

  • Creating an interactive PDF with a shopping cart style interface...?

Just asked this question over in the InDesign forum but figured this might be a good place as well:
I need to create an interactive PDF in which the user can check a box next to a thumbnail image and a sum total at the bottom of the page is updated.  All or none or just some of the boxes would need to be checked.
Is this possible with Acrobat Pro?

Okay, figuring this out.  Doesn't look like I need javascripting.  But wow, getting into Acrobat to create stuff for the first time is actually painful.
For instance, no matter if I use the Add Text Box tool at the top menu....or the Add or Edit Text Box tool in the Content menu, neither one will actually give me that much needed calculate field.  ????  wow.
I actually grabbed a PDF example off the net showing exactly what I want to do, but the problem is that when I cut and paste the sum text box, it comes in at a 90deg angle to what I need, lol.  Now I'm trying to figure out exactly how to ROTATE a simple text box.
    *exasperated*
EDIT:  Ahh, rotation dialog in the properties.  Grr.  It's odd that the cursor doesn't also offer a 'rotate' option.....like InDesign and every other Adobe product. heh.

  • How do I create an interactive PDF file with variable data

We would like to basically do a 'mail merge' of our list of customers with an interactive PDF file (including videos, menus, etc - not just form fill out and web links) to create a single PDF file that contains multiple mail pieces ... one for each customer ... with each mail piece being customized for that customer.  Customizations would include different greetings (Dear Bob, Dear Dana, etc), as well as different charts based on data unique to the customer, different photographs, etc.
I've seen that InDesign and Acrobat Professional can be used to create an interactive PDF (such as from http://tv.adobe.com/watch/ask-the-adobe-ones/14-calling-rufus-about-interactive-pdf-making).  However I don't understand how I can insert data from a database, csv file, excel file etc into the PDF file so that each page, or each set of pages, within the PDF can be customized.
Can anyone point me to a tool to use for this?
    Thanks,
    Bob Kendall

For that kind of volume and unattended operation, you want InDesign Server – which is the server/high volume edition of INDD.

  • InDesign CS5 or 5.5 interactive pdfs  - can I create a button for printing?

    Hello lovely InDesign experts.
I am creating an interactive pdf using CS 5.5 and would like to have a button on each page that, when pushed, opens a print window (so the user can print the page, or range of pages, if they want). I know you can do this to the finished pdf in Acrobat but would prefer to keep everything in InDesign if possible.
Thanking you very much in advance,
    Lisa

And if you're getting into doing stuff in Acrobat these two links are worth reading, the first here written by Bob himself, the second here a cool new way that has been developed, if you requested they add a print button to the list of what you can do and it's possible they probebly would.

  • WHAT IS GOING ON with Interactive PDFs ????

I'm being hit with 2 terrible interactive PDF issues at the moment.  Everyone that receives the document experiences the same thing.
I create my interactive PDFs with InDesign ver 7.5.1.  At this point I'm totally unclear as to whether or not this is an ACROBAT issue or INDESIGN issue.  So far no one from Adobe has bothered to respond in the InDesign thread.  Hoping someone can help here.
    Problem 1: Rollover Problem
All my rollover buttons no longer work properly.  If I have a button that's simply a black arrow, and in the rollover state it's red.   No matter if I'm checking it out in the latest Acrobat Reader or Pro X, the rollover only works for a brief second..then reverts back to black - the original state.
Problem 2: Show / Hide buttons
I'm using the show/hide button trick when creating interactive PDFs in which you have a series of buttons that, when clicked, trigger images to appear (which are themselves buttons).
Quite often when you get to a page that utilizes this method, the button/image that's supposed to appear (hide until triggered is UNCHECKED) won't actually show up.
All buttons are on the same layer.
IS ANYONE EXPERIENCING THESE ISSUES?  Any help would be appreciated.  This seems to be a fairly serious error on my part, or a serious bug in InDesign and/or Acrobat.

I've been slammed with a deadline and just haven't had time to upload an edited version of my latest PDF and InDesign file for you guys to check out.  (I need to remove logos/client names/etc).
What I have noticed, however, is that as far as the Rollover problem goes, previous PDFs that used to work fine now exhibit the same problem.  The rollover effect works for a fraction of a second (when the cursor hits the edge of the text box area it would seem), then stops working.  I'm going to say at this point that it's an Acrobat Reader/X version problem.  There's been very recent updates to both, hasn't there?
The Show/Hide issue listed above has always been a problem with my stuff, so that may or may not be connected to a version issue and may be my fault.  I'll post the files as soon as I'm able.
    Tnx
Edit:  Both problems also exist on the Mac version.

  • Problems with Long Interactive PDFs with Extensive Interactivity via Buttons and Hyperlinks

I have inherited a project which requires the creation of large interactive pdfs with lots of buttons and hyperlinks. I am having continuing problems with buttons not working and long periods of wasted time as attempted exports fail.
    Background:
The largest books range from 264 MB to 411 MB – (764 to 1024 pages).  Per book, the maximum number of buttons on each page is 16, linking separate files (subsections) in the book via text anchors.  The buttons are created using Master Pages which are set for each file (subsection) in the book.  50% to 60% of the pages in each file (subsection) will also be referenced as 2 hyperlinks.  One is the source page hyperlink on each workflow and the second is a listing on the source page as a possible navigation path. I have created hyperlink destinations for each page which is used to generate the source and navigation hyperlinks.  With 2 hyperlinks representing 50%-60% of the pages - that means the largest book contains a maximum of 1200 hyperlinks.  Each file (subsection) also has it’s own separate TOC and the bookmarks that are created  (optionally) during the TOC creation process.   As currenlty formatted, the book is primarily images of workflows which mean 50%-60% of the pages contain pdf images.
    Several questions:
    1.  How do I get my buttons to work consistently?  There is nothing worse than working hard and then ending up with faulty product.  I have been thinking about combining all the files into 1 document per book.  Then I could change the buttons to objects, add a hyperlink over each one and set them for a specific hyperlink destination.  Can I do that if the buttons are on Master Pages?  Can InDesign handle a document with 1024 pages?    I can't fix the problems in Acrobat later because it would mean 1024 fixes for just 1 button correction.
    2.  How do I stop InDesign from freezing when exporting these large pdfs?  It seems to wait until the final steps to crash which sometimes means a 4-6 hour waste of time per export.
    3.  Are we making a mistake using pdfs as our workflow images?  I'm not pleased with the quality of the images we have and wonder if we switched to another image format if this would improve the results.   Would it be worth the effort and relinking?  I have been reading different information on what the preferred source image format is for InDesign.  One article I found yesterday says using pdf images is a problem.  Another site said the Photoshop, TIF and JPG are preferred but PDFs were also acceptable.
    4.  Do I need to propose scrapping InDesign as the source of the project?  If so, what application can better meet my needs?

Those are the limitations you have to put up with.
Apple doesn't follow the PDF spec. It chooses which PDF features it will support.
As to the version number (v5 or v6 or the new multimedia features in v9), there is different support in different versions of Reader/Acrobat as the product has developed. You just need to post a message to downloaders that they need to view the file in Adobe Reader version X or above to get the best experience.
Other industry standards face the same problem: How can you add new feature like multimedia? You can't always be backwards compatible.

  • Video disappears when exporting to Interactive pdf

    Hi,
I have just started using InDesign yesterday and am trying to put together an interactive pdf. It is essentially a pdf catalogue with several clients on it. I have carried out all the hyperlinking, but now I want to embed a video into the pdf. I do so by importing a video file and configuring it with the interactive media box. Every time I export he pdf however, the video is completely missing.
I have tried to convert it with Media Encoder to flash, mp4, avi, h.264 etc. I'm not really sure how I can fix it so that it remains an interactive element in a pdf. I have been playing around with the Adobe pdf presets and still nothing.
Could somebody please help me? Complete noob here
    Cheers

You mentioned you have played with PDF presets? Are you sure you have exported Interactive PDF not Adobe PDF (Print)? Those are two different formats in InDesign´s Export File format list... videos are not supported in PDF for print format. And PDF presets works only with PDF for Print, not with Interactive PDF format.
If you are using proper Interactive PDF format, make sure you have checked (Forms and) Media;  Include All option in export window.

  • Is it possible to create expandable fields in an interactive PDF? (not dropdown menus)

Need to design an interactive PDF that has expandable fields for respondents to include more that one group of answers. Specifically, they will be asked to list all previous employment. Some respondents may have had 10 relevant positions. The form will get too long if I create fields for 10 responses. Hoping to find a way that fields will expand if a respondent needs them.

Not really possible with PDF forms, unless you create an entire page
dedicated to this and allow the user to spawn new copies of it as needed.

  • InDesign interactive pdf hyperlink problem

Hi, I've set up an InDesign document to have Hyperlinks to other pages which is fine and separate pdf's where the problem lies. They're all in one folder, all a certain shortish length, not overly high in memory, numbering around 35 so far, will work fine for a while then want to connect to the internet with the Windows Internet Explorer warning box saying: Cannot find xxxx%5xxxx%20xxx%20... Make sure the path or Internet address is correct.
I'm working from the company server on a PC in InDesign CS6 CC, exporting as an interactive pdf including hyperlinks. Any ideas please?
    Thank you, Emma

Thanks Sumit but the Hyperlink list does not have %20 in, only when you hover over or get warning.

  • Non-interactive PDF forms & licences

    Hello,
I need an advice. I created WD application using non-interactive PDF form. Actually I used UI element InteractiveForm but we didn't place any editable element (text box, dropdown list, ...) into it. We just want to generate the PDF form dynamically. And now we need to know whether it's necessary to buy any licence for this use case. Does somebody know that?
After deployment I can't open the PDF form. The report "500   Internal Server Error ..." is displayed and there is message "... The error is: com.sap.tc.webdynpro.clientserver.adobe.pdfdocument.base.core.PDFDocumentRuntimeException: Failed to UPDATEDATAINPDF ..." in defaltTrace file.
    Thank you in advance!
    Regards
    Zbynek

Thank you very much! The answer was really helpful. But I have one more question. I have changed preview type from INTERACTIVE FORM to PRINT FORM as you recommended but it still doesn't work.
    There is written "
...PDFObjectRuntimeException: Processing exception during a "UsageRights" operation.
com.adobe.ProcessingException: Could not retrieve a password for credential: ReaderRights.
    " in defaultTrace file.
Till now I didn't asked SAP for sending credential. Now I did that. Do you think that it could be the problem? I thought it's not necessary for non-interactive forms.

  • Streaming video in interactive pdf

I have read everything I can on this subject, and although it looks like I should be able to do it, I have so far been unable to make it work!
My dilemma: Creating an Interactive PDF from InDesign CS6, and I would like to include links to various streaming video's throughout the pdf.  I would like them to run within the pdf (as a floating window), not pop out to the users web browser.  I would like people to be able to play them, and then play them again if they need to listen again, aka, loop, I guess.
My attempts: I have created the Play button (to launch the video) in InD and when I exported it to PDF, I tried to set the video up there.  I had minimal success with that route.  I've also tried to do the whole thing directly in InD, including the link to the video, but had no success.
I have downloaded two different replacement Flash players and tried to make both of them work, but with no real success.  However, I fully admit that I am not as technically savy as what they expect, since I really don't get the whole "do this in Java" part.  I tried to copy their script stuff in and replace my info where I saw it fit, but apparently there is other things going on that I am not getting.
Help!  If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.  Or even if there is somewhere you can steer me to learn how to do it, I'll go.  So far, most of the stuff has been programmatically over my head, even though I'm not a new user to the Creative Suite, unfortunately, it's all been print.

First thing to say is that if you want the video to be truly "streaming" it has to be served from an Adobe Media Server platform using the RTMP/RTMPE protocol.
Assuming you have the URL of such a stream, it's easy to create the annotation in Acrobat Pro. If you want a floating window and a 'play' button, this is the simnplest workflow as there's no scripting involved - but you need to create an image that will act as the button.
Use the Add Video tool to draw a region on the page which will be where your 'play' button sits.
In the Insert Video dialog there's a "Select file or insert URL" field at the top - in there, type the full URL of your RTMP stream.
Click "show advanced options" and select "Create poster from file", then open your image of the play button.
Set the playback style to "floating window" and enter the dimensions of the stream.
    Click OK.
If you already have the graphic for the play button as part of the PDF page itself, you can use a different workflow:
Use the Add Video tool to draw a very small region on the page which will be where the video poster sits (it has to exist but you want to hide it somewhere...).
Set the video options as before and click OK.
Use the Add Link tool to create a link region around the play button shape on your page.
Set the link to "Custom Action"
On the Actions tab, set the event to "Multimedia Operation (Acrobat 9 and later)", choose your video from the list, then in the lower area choose Play.

  • Interactive PDF

    Hi,
I'm working on creating an interactive PDF in InDesign CS5 and cannot figure out the best way to have buttons click to the appropriate page.
It's a newsletter/article archive with an index at the front. The first couple pages list the articles in the newsletter and then will be clickable to take you to the page of the article (in the same file). I don't really want to open up PDF files. The newsletters are the newest at the front (after the list of articles) and the oldest in the back.
I'm going to have to make updates to this project a couple of times a year (maybe more) and I want only to have to add in the newest newsletter and add buttons/links to take you to the new articles. I want to avoid making changes to all of the buttons. Since I'll be inserting pages near the beginning, I believe that going by "Page #" links is out.
Do you have any suggestions or tips on how to make this work? Any other tips on interactive PDFs are also welcomed.
    Thanks!
    Anne

I'm sorry to piggy back on this post, but I've just wasted 15 minutes trying
to find similar posts or to open a discussion in the Forum and I just can't
    find where.
ID CS4, Windows XP.  I click the contex menu on some text that I'd like to
turn into a SOURCE for a hyperlink and my only options are destination,
cross-reference and bookmark.  This once worked for me, and doesn't
anymore.  Does anyone know, please, how I can can connect a source to my
    destination?
Thank you so much and again, please excuse me.

  • Interactive PDF Question

    Hi all,
I'm trying to create an interactive pdf using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro
I'm trying to create either through buttons or a drop down list, items when selected reveal other information.
If I use sandwiches as an example, I want the pdf to display the sandwich names like this
    Egg Mayo
    Tuna Sweetcorn
    Cheese & Onion
I want it to be that when you click on the sandwich option a text field appears which shows the nutritionanl information etc for that sandwich.
I know you can do it with the show/hide option but this way you have to leave a lot of blank space and does not look very professional for the end user.
    Any suggestions?

If you mean that you want to "re-flow" the document when a selection is
made, it's not possible, unless the entire contents of the file is located
in form fields. The other option is to create a dynamic form using
LiveCycle Designer, but that's a whole other story.

  • Hyperlinks to files in Interactive PDF's

    Good morning
I am a new user to indesign CS4 running on a MAC.  I am trying to make an interactive pdf document that will link to other files, for example other pdf documents, power point presentations and excel files.  I am hoping to burn this information to a CD for distribution or be able to zip the package and email the files.  So far I have been able to link to another pdf document but the file location is listed as my computer.
    "/Users/rbell/Documents/Nursing Portfolio Iris Bell/IB_1page_resume_2010.pdf"
I would like this to only read the /IB_1page_resume_2010.pdf part as I don't want to be referring people back to my computer.  The other issue that I had when trialing this was that the document opened in safari not acrobat.
Any ideas on how to fix these issues.
    Thanks Iris.

ID hyperlinks must be absolute paths.
If the final PDF is being sent around, say to the outside world, the source documents need to be hosted to an accessible server.
If the source documents are saved to your hard drive, and you create a PDF with hyperlinks, then the final PDF is looking for your hard drive to launch those files.
As for Safari opening on launch rather than Acrobat, that would be a browser setting.
If you are creating links to internal server documents, again, the PDF would need to be able to refer back to the server for those documents.

I created a great interactive pdf in Indesign and then added Reader extension capability in Acrobat XI. However, when I now try to add a Watermark to my Interactive pdf, using Acrobat XI, a pop-up message informs me "You do not have sufficient permissions to perform this task." I checked the file's permissions (I'm working in Mac OS X 10.8.5), and the file is listed with write permissions.
    Can someone please help? Thanks!

Enabling a document should be the last thing you do before distributing it. If you didn't save the original when enabling it, you can open the enabled version and select: File > Save a Copy
You'll then have to open the copy (it doesn't get loaded automatically) and add the watermark to it. Then enable it.
