Interactive Photo Resizing/Cropping/Scaling

When I drop a jpg file into an interactive widget, the cropping and proportional controls seem to be limited. The canvas is clipped automatically and the left portion of the image is inaccessible when resizing the picture box. Am I doing something wrong? And when we drop a portrait-oriented, or vertical, photo in place it is cropped square automatically. Does anyone know how to have more control over resizing/cropping, or at least be able to use the parts of the image you want and not have them cropped automatically.
The mask function does not appear to be present in the interactive widget, or at least I am not finding out how to do it.

Exporting as a JPG will normally result in a decrease in FILE size, but not a reduction in IMAGE size. So, this is perfectly normal, and I don't see this as unusual or worrisome.
Furthermore, you are looking at the wrong measure. FILE size and megabytes tells you nothing, and will mislead you. Thus, I suggest to you that the comparison of going from 5.7 megabytes to 622 kilobytes is completely meaningless and useless. The IMAGE size, measured in megapixels, (or equivalently dimensions width x height) is what you need to be paying attention to. If you want to print at 8x10, and you use the "usual" level of quality of 300 pixels per inch, then you need 2400x3000 pixels (or more) in your exported photo. But you don't tell us what the IMAGE size is.

  • IPhoto 11 won't print photos as cropped

I have an album of photos that I've cropped to specific sizes to fit a collage frame.  iPhoto will not print the photos as I've cropped them.  It insists on scaling (and often re-cropping) them to fit the paper I'm printing on.  How do I force iPhoto to print them as cropped?
Setting a photo size doesn't work because then iPhoto zooms in on the already cropped photo and re-crops.  It also a pain, because then I'd have to print the photos in batches, being sure that I selected all the photos I cropped to a specific size for each batch.
    Ray

First crop your photo to 3x3:
In the Print window select the paper size (in this example it's 4x6) and a custom print size of 3x3. This is what you'll get, a 3x3 photo on a 4x6 paper size.  You can select any paper size you'd like:
If you select a large paper size you can print multiple 3x3 photos on the same page:

  • Please tell me you can use pan/zoom tool for photo slideshow with photos not cropped to screen?

I'm new to Mac and Premiere Elements (former PC/Sony Vegas Movie user), and am trying to do a Ken Burns type photo slideshow wherein my photos are left in their normal cropped state.  Right now it seems all photos get cropped to fill the screen size (i.e. 16:9).  I saw where you could uncheck the scale photo size to media (or something to that effect) under the general setting in preferences, but using the pan/zool tool still shows photos cropped to fill screen.  I realize conflicting aspect ratio will result in black bars top/bottom or left/right of frame, and that's ok/what I want.  I'm hoping this is doable?  Thanks, Jim

The primary question that I have is what is the end product...DVD-VIDEO Standard on DVD disc, DVD-VIDEO Widescreen on DVD disc or other?
Let us assume for now DVD-VIDEO Widescreen on DVD disc. The next question that falls into line is the one relating to what you describe as an assortment of photos going into this project...what are the pixel dimensions (what range of...) and aspect ratio. For aspect ratio, are we talking 4:3 or 16:9. How many of these photos are landscape oriented or how many portrait oriented.
In generalities at this point, I would ask you to look at:
    a. bringing your photos appropriately sized into a Premiere Elements project with an appropriate project preset.
    b. leaving Edit Menu/Preferences/General with its Default Scale to Frame Size with a check mark.
    c. in the workspace, scaling the photos to just fill the space in the Edit Mode Monitor
    d. then one by one pan and zoom a photo with the Pan and Zoom Tool.
If you use this Tool, you should get good results. One consideration is that the process results in the Timeline photo having a much larger duration AFTER than BEFORE. If you see any pros in using this tool for your purposes, then you might want to explore the technique that I described for applying a pan and zoom effect from this Tool to more than one photo at a time.
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/05/pe11-pan-zoom-tool-more-than-one-photo.html
You also might want to explore fxEffects/Presets for horizontal and vertical pans or zoom. The catch in the presets is that you can apply a pan OR zoom, not a pan AND zoom to each photo.
Keyframing of Scale (for Zoom) and Position (for Pan) should be explored under Applied Effects/Applied Effects Palette/Motion Panel expanded/Scale and Position properties.
With more details from you, we could go step by step in any of the above.
We will be watching for your progress.
    Thanks.

  • In the slide show timeline, how do I select a photo to crop?

In the slide show timeline, how do I select a photo to crop?  Sometimes it lets me do it and sometimes I can't select the photo to do it.  I'm not sure why the difference.

It's version 3.4.2, the latest.  I can double click it, but then I'm out of the slideshow timeline and it's a hassle to quickly go back.  I have to click on another place in my library and then go back to the slideshow and find my place in the timeline where I was.  Many clicks.  I just want to edit (enlarge and move the photo) in the timeline. Sometimes it works, but sometimes I can't get it to. Not sure if there's a "sweet" spot to click on for the photo in the timeline or what that I'm missing at times.

  • CS3 tools interactive photo album and small video

Sorry to ask something that I should know.
I have 2 the CS3 tools, photoshop & AI and the full production studio of CS2. I haven't used these tools for mnths (nearing a yr) and didn't have a whole lot of experience even when I used them daily.
Cutting to the chase... I want to create a short video and an interactive photo album to go on a settop playable CD-rom.
I don't need help with the video part. But am at something of a loss about the interactive photo album. I've done quite a few animated photo-albums but the only interactive part was with DVD menus.
I'm not really talking about a lot of interactivity. I plan to put the pictures in pages and would like the user to be able to turn the pages.
That is, I'd like the pages static but turnable by user/viewer.
Maybe menus would be one way to do it, but wondering if there is some way to make it a little less clunky. Ahh .. maybe all I'm describing is chapters.. but even then I'm not sure how to do that on a CD-rom as opposed to a dvd...... still any input would be welcome.

    I have a similar problem. I have DreamWeaver8 and installed a
demo version of Fireworks. Fireworks works fine when I just want to
    open an image to edit.
However when I try to create a Photo Album I am prompted to
install Fireworks. I have 21 days left in the trial version.
    thank you

  • Photos are cropped after being shared from Photos App

So, I wanted to share Photos from my Photos App using iCloud shared albums. I have iCloud Photo Library enabled.
All the photos I want to share are perfectly uploaded to iCloud, as I checked them on my iPhone.
But when I created the shared album, some of the photos are cropped! The lower part is just plain white.
Some of them are missing 30%, others are missing 90%. Some are even all white. This is the case for every device I access the shared album from.
But the originals are still complete and not cropped (When I access them via "Moments" for example). That is on every device!
    No matter where I access
I noticed, that when I shared the photos, the Hard drive of my iMac began to show heavy activity.
I imagine there should be no HD activity, since all my photos are in the cloud already. So when I want to share photos from my iCloud photo library, all the Photos App has to do is send the list of those photos I want to share to the iCloud servers. Not the entire (or corpped) photo.
    Anyone else experiencing this?

Must crop all pictures, or choose to print with borders.

  • How long can you revert back to the original photo after cropping?

Is there any time limit for how long can you revert back to the original photo after cropping? Are you always able to revert back?
    Thanks.

DAM = "Digital Asset Manager", a fancy name for a filing system.
iPhoto keeps the original and makes one (usually much smaller) copy based on your edits. It is non-destructive in that if you crop, and later change the color, iPhoto will go back to the original and apply the corrections to get the new image, it will not simply modify the preview.
If you want a high quality copy of the image, use the export function which allows you to specify the size and compression.

  • Photos are cropped when going to print

Photos display properly when viewing but when any sort of print routine is initiated the image is seriously cropped, usually left and right sides. Trying to set print parameters, no border, etc., images are still always cropped.

Make sure the aspect ration (length to breadth) of the photo matches the aspect ratio you've chosen for printing.
In other words, if you're printing 5 x 7 make sure that the photo is cropped to that ratio, not 4:3 like many digital cameras produce.

  • Very difficult to click/drag corner handles to resize crop/ken burns

I'm using FCPX 10.1.4 on a Macbook Pro Retina 15 (mid-2012), Yosemite 10.10.2.  However, I've seen this problem over the previous several releases of FCPX, and also in OSX 10.9.x
When using the Crop/Ken Burns editor, the corners of the area are bracketed with blue handles (or red/green for the ken burns edit).
Here's how it's supposed to work, as I understand it:
To move the crop region, you click within the bracketed area and drag to move the crop-window over the source material.
To resize the crop region, you click a corner bracket handle, and see the bracket change to a slightly larger bracket, then drag it in/out to make the area smaller/larger.
However, I find that most of the time, when I try to click/drag one of the corner handles to resize the area, it instead acts as a move operation.
Even worse with the ken burns editor, often the click toggles between the start and end crop regions, when I really wanted to just resize one of the regions.
In short, I find these brackets unbelievably fidgety to click/drag for resizing/cropping.  It almost always doesn't work right, so I find myself wasting a lot of time with click/drag/undo, try again, click/drag/undo, try again, etc, until finally the click works as the intended resize.
I've tried everything I can think of- modifier keys while clicking, click and hold a moment, double-click, etc.
Is this a bug, or am missing something?
    Thanks,
    John

I don't have problems with the Trim or the Crop tool, but with the Ken Burns tool it can be sometimes tricky to hit the right spot.
I went and experimented a bit, as I don't use Ken Burns very often.
I can offer two little tidbits from my experience:
    1) Cursor size: I am in the habit of having a larger cursor (by using the Accessibility in System Preferences), because, especially when using two  displays it is easier to spot where it is. I found that this makes it trickier to know where the active cursor spot is. Reducing the cursor back to normal makes hitting those green and red corners much easier
    2) Changing from start to end in Ken Burns: if you want to hit, say, a green corner which happens to be *inside* the red frame, and you have red (end) selected, you have to click first to select green (start), and then click and drag. Otherwise your click will register as a drag of the red frame. No such problem if the aforementioned green corner is outside the red frame (then click and drag immediately works). This makes sense, but it was not obvious to me at first.

  • Interactive Photo/Video - Advice please :)

    Hello All,
I would like to explore the idea of an interactive photo (via touchscreen app or internet page) for a project at college.
My idea is to film a video of myself looking all around a 'circle' (body stays still)
Then with this video, i would want to create a picture, that follows the mouse or finger on a touchscreen. Thus making an interactive photo.
Would it be possible to set trigger points to a video, i.e when my eyes look towards the bottom left hand screen, the triger point would be there, so when my finger is there i am looking at it.
Does anyone have any idea if this would work, or how i would start to develop this?
So the end product would be me following the mouse (or finger) around the screen where ever the mouse goes (within the picture)
    Many thanks for any replies,
I look forward to your responces
    Thanks,

    Hello,
That sounds encouraging! Still no idea where to go from here but least it sounds like an achievable goal!
Do you know of any examples where this has already been done?
    Thanks

  • Resizing/Cropping slides with Animation

I have a quick question regarding resizing/cropping slides
that have some type of animation, whether it be mouse, scrolling,
typing, etc. But if I use the resize movie option, and then crop.
say for example, I want to crop off the IE bar at the top and
bottom. it will crop off the bars on normal slides, but any slide
with animation, it will on. I understand the slide is an animation,
but is it possible have Captivate crop those bars off?

    Hi Amanda
If you can live with the results, one easy way around this is to insert a Highlight Box object that totally covers what you want to clear away. Configure it with a solid color, no transparency and no border. Then size and position as desired. Then copy from the initial slide and paste onto other slides. (Remember, you are able to multi-select the other slides before you paste).
Then you could Merge into Background to influence the changes.
You might try it with a copy of the project first and see if the results are acceptable to you and the client. It would seem far easier than re-recording or taking other drastic measures.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Updated to mavericks and old photobooth photos were resized/cropped? how do i recover the original photo?

i launched photobooth for the first time after upgrading from snow leopard to mavericks (ugh, hate mavericks) and noticed it "updated" all my photobooth files by resizing them. now they're all funky looking and cropped. does anyone else have this problem? how do i recover the original uncropped photos?

Select the photo in iPhoto and use the command "File > Export" and set the "Kind" in the Export panel to "Original". That will write a copy of the original to a folder you can access in the Finder.
The command "File > Reveal in Finder" will show you the original inside the iPhoto Library, but you must not access the files this way. If you access them from other apps using the Finder, you will corrupt your library.

  • How do I resizie a photo without Cropping

    Hi All,
Just download the 30 day trial of Aperture 2 to test it out. Recently new into photography, progressing on past point and click.
Want to post some photo's on a website to get feedback but they ask for photo's no bigger than 600x600 pxls.
If I have shot at 6mp and I am over 2000x2000pxls can I shrink the pick to 600 or below without cropping so I can get advise on the complete picture? If yes how do I do it.
    Thanking you in advance.
    Matt

Ernie is exactly right. Aperture always keeps your original high-res file untouched. You get a specific size by exporting a JPG or TIF. Along those line, I use the Zenfolio website for photos I shoot for clients. There is an Aperture plug-in for Zenfolio, which means I can export directly from Aperture to my Zenfolio website. No more making a folder of images on my desktop, uploading them and then deleting the folder. The photos go straight from Aperture to Zenfolio. There are export plug-ins for other photo websites as well, such as Flickr. Here is a link for more plug-in details:

  • Where is the Basic photo resize in iPhoto feature

Recently, I found a feature that let me resize photos in Iphoto to various preset sizes and easially export them to my desktop or wherever.  The sizes were real baisc, 2 x3  4 x 6  8 x 10 etc but using the custom feature I could resize them perfectly for web photo requirements on Fiverr.
It seemed the setting was on the right margin in Iphoto to resize the images and I did about 8 of them.  ...Now I cannot find that feature-
Can anyone help me locate it in Iphoto?
    Many thanks-

In the Edit mode is the option to crop the photos to the various size ratios:
