Interactive widgets on master slide

My understanding is that interactive widgets cannot go on master slides. Is this because they don't work or don't work consistently?
A co-worker of mine made this widget https://acrobat.com/#d=9N0LRqiAhOpCfzJB5mCUIg
The idea was to have play/pause functionality in a widget on a master slide. It works quite well in one Captivate project, but not another (both are Captivate 5 projects). It's a bit of a mystery.
If anyone wants to take a look, give it a try, or comment, I'd like to hear your input.

I'm not either. This widget does work, but sometimes you have to click it twice and we can't figure out why.
In the meantime, I am using the play button on the skin, but my preference would be something a little more customizable.

  • Widget on master slides

Hi, I am trying to add a slideshow widget to a master slide, which Muse allows me to do, however when I drag that master to my content slides, it doesn't seem to have the widget on the content slide. I must be doing something wrong otherwise I expect Muse wouldn't allow me to create the widget on a master slide.
    Thanks
I found my mistake, I copied the widget from an non master page to the master page. When I create it from scratch on the master page it works fine.

Think of the Master page as a template that would contain only common stuff that primarily includes your navigation menu, header and footer which are supposed to remain consistent throughout all pages of your site (in normal scenario). One would not want to mess up their site's basic layout and design structure (that you define in a Master page) while editing a content page and hence the content of the Master is editable only in the Master page itself so as to isolate it from any other normal page ultimately reducing the chance of errors to the general layout.
However, from designer's perspective, one might want to slightly change the design (including the header and footer) for select pages. And therefore, Muse allows you to create multiple Masters that you can easily apply to those specific content pages.
Now in your case; if you're planning to create different themed slideshows on content pages but with some common overall design, then you might want to go with multiple Masters otherwise if they all are going to be very much unique (that includes unique images for each slide show) then the best option would be to create a slideshow for each page.
    Thanks,

  • Pausing slides using master slides and widgets

    Hi,
Is there a better way that what we are doing becuase we ware wasting time and we put this process in pace in CP 5.5 and want to know what we can better in CP7.01
We want to have our slides pause at the middle of each slide
    Currently
    - Our navigation buttons are on the master slide . These are custom static widgets to do forward and back because interactive objects cannot be put on master slides
    - so we add a hidden object on each slide to pause
    We have complicated branching becuase
    - we have glossaries and help
    - branched scenarios
So we really need this to work releiably
    Problems
    - our widget doesn't show on the branched viewer
    - we make mistakes using the variable recording the previous viewed slide
We were worried about using a playbar becuase it
    - allows you to exit assessments
    - allows users to skip our simulations
    regards Paul

Your statement '..because interactive objects cannot be put on master slides' is no longer valid since CP6: there is one type of interactive objects that can be used on master slides (or timed for the rest of the project) which are the shape buttons. I have been talking a lot about them:
    http://blog.lilybiri.com/why-i-like-shape-buttons-captivate-6
    http://blog.lilybiri.com/toggle-shape-buttons
    http://blog.lilybiri.com/want-a-button-on-question-slide-in-captivate
And I presented a webinar, info and link can be found here: http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2012/09/training-lilybiris-favourite-shapes-to-trigger-ad vanced-actions.html
You could easily replace the static widgets by shape buttons, they are a lot easier to 'style' and very flexible.
One example: if you want just to pause each slide, add a pausing shape button (transparent fill and no stroke) to the main master slide. Because there is no timing possible for objects on a master slide, that pause will always occur at the end of the slide, whatever its duration. You cannot time the pause! If you have a shape button with pause timed for the rest of the project, that pausing point will always be at the same absolute time (relative is not possible, thought I'd seen somewhere a question about pausing at half the slide duration but cannot find it in your text).
I (almost) never use a playbar myself. It is only useful for simple linear projects.

  • Master Slide issue - drag and drop alt slide over theme slide

Keynote on my MacPro: Where before on the previous version I could in Master Slides drag and drop an alternative look over a theme slide to change that slide only and no affecting the entire presentation which was most useful, now that seems no longer an option unless there's something I can't find to do that. When viewing Master Slides now you cannot see the presentation you're working on. Previously I would set up several slides with different looks and where needed drop that look over a slide and it would override the theme slide without all slides being affected. Qny thought guys? Barry

Although I have been answering quite a lot of questions about Drag&Drop functionality (not a widget), you are the first to mention such problems.  Personally I never had problems, only when not respecting the design of the interaction or doing something stupid. If you are the only user to have such experience (at least for what I hear in these forums and on social media), I don't see why an upgrade should be expected? Did you log the problem? Are you sure that the project is not corrupted?
The jigsaw learning interaction is pretty simple, also limited, don't know what are your problems there?
Are you sure that all objects used in the D&D (drag sources and drop targets) are visible in output. It is a bit confusing in CP8 because the eye icon is used both for visible in output for objects in Properties panel, and for showing the links in D&D in the D&D panel. Can you see the links? Did you avoid overlapping of objects? Did you not rename an object after creating the D&D interaction, because that will break the link from/to that object? I mentioned this in my last article: Drag&Drop tips - Captivate blog
I am just trying to find out what is going wrong, bit curious about this rare case.

  • Interaction (widgets) in masterslides

    Hi there,
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to use interaction widgets in masterslides?? I'm trying to insert a 'dropdown' interaction into a masterslide.

    Thanks for your help again!
So if I understand it correctly I can only insert a drop down menu WITH variable input in the masterslide? It is not possible to insert a 'template' dropdown menu in the masterslide, which i can fill in in the normal slides?
For my project I want to place a dropdown menu on a standard place in the masterslide. But every dropdown menu in the normal slides needs to have different input. I was hoping that would be possible in Captivate 7...

  • Web-object interaction/widget does not appear in published slideshow

I added the web-object interaction/widget using my notes from the instructions in the relevant Lynda.com video (as the Captivate 7 User Guide makes no mention of the web page widget, web-object widget, web object widget, web-object interaction, web-page interaction, web page interaction, or webpage interaction).
The web-object interaction, or web-object widget (or whatever you choose to call the thingie that should provide the user of the published project slideshow with direct interaction with a web page from within one of the slides), it sometimes works in preview; may have worked once when published; but otherwise does not appear on the slide.
On its not appearing in either the published HTML document or the SWF file:
--I had a Continue button on the slide, and tried removing that.
    This did not help.
--Because the web-object interaction/widget automatically sets the slide's action on entrance to "Pause," I tried setting it to "No action" (thinking that the slide, being pause on entrance, might never get to the web-object widget/interaction).
    This did not help.
--I thought that perhaps navigating in the slide show with various "Jump to slide" settings, I would watch it without navigation.
    This did not help.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Jeff

In the published folder, I noticed a SWF called stagewebview. I guess this file has got something to do with Web Object interaction. When we link to published HTML file, this SWF is getting called automatically. But in your case since you are linking to published SWF file, the web object interaction SWF is not getting called. So, is it not possible for you to link it to HTM file?

  • Localize interaction widgets in captivate 6

I'm using an English installation of Cp6 and would like to incorporate some of the standard captivate interaction widgets into lessons for high school students. However these lessons will have to be fully in Dutch and all of the widget parts need to be localized. The foremost parts (strings) can be edited into the right language from the design mode. But there are still some parts that can not be changed; for example in the word search interaction (see picture). Since the fla sources are not available to me these strings can not be changed. My question now is if I obtain a license for the Dutch version of Cp6 will i also get a fully translated set of interaction widgets? Or are there other work arounds I could use?
    TIA for any answer!

There is no Dutch version of Captivate and localisation has never been considered very important IMO. Have been complaining already a lot about that. There are no Dutch TTS, translation of the TOC is cumbersome and translating those interactions is not possible. Please, add your voice to me and other international users (Dutch is also my native tongue) by entering feature requests. Only the requests that do get a lot of support will make it in future versions.

My workaround is to add instructions in Dutch, either with a previous slide, or with a text caption or using Voice Over

  • What good are Master Slides if...

I can not edit them on the main timeline? I create a captivate template and use master slides with place holders. Then create a new project from the template and I can not edit the master slide with place holders. Right now all I can see using a master slide for is my background objects that are the same on every slide.
I was hoping that I was goign to be able to use master slides with my subject matter expert. That way all he had to do was pick a Master for a slide then type the info in the place holder. But that does not work. So I am back to using regular slides with place holders.
The whole concept of being able to add place holders to a masterslide seems strange to me if you can not edit them on the main timeline.

    Hi folks
Indeed things get a bit muddy with the Master Slides concept and placeholders. I think this is further exacerbated with the whole concept of the panels.
In Captivate 4, when you created a Project Template and it had placeholders, you double-clicked the placeholder and a dialog popped up that you interacted with to configure the content. In Captivate 5 it appears that double-clicking the placeholder just tends to focus the properties panel for the objkect. And because the panels are so similar, it's quite often difficult to discern that anything changed. As a result, you may not think the template is working.
I agree that it seems counterintuitive to have an ability to insert a placeholder into a Master Slide, then apparently prevent access to edit the placeholder unless you are editing the Master Slide. What would seem more intuitive to me is that if placeholders were used in a Master Slide, they would be transferred to any new slides created using Insert > New Slide. I stand to be corrected on this, but I believe that's how PowerPoint works. So it would make sense if Captivate worked in a similar fashion as folks are generally already accustomed to working the way PowerPoint does.
For anyone reading this thread that would like to see changes made, please consider submitting a Wish Form and advise Adobe as to how you would like to see the behavior change. Don't be fooled into thinking that submitting a Wish Form is just a way to make you feel you have had your say. Adobe does see these. And if they see enough asking for the same feature or reporting the same issue, the Feature or Issue gains much higher priority.
Link to the Wish Form/Bug Reporting Form is in my sig.

  • Who'd like to test a new Drag and Drop Interactive Widget?

It's taken about 6 months of every spare minute we could find but we're finally ready to do a round of Alpha testing for our new Drag and Drop Interactive Widget for Cp4 and 5.  This post is to ask for a handful of volunteers to test the new widget over the next week creating drag and drop interactions in both Cp4 and Cp5.
If you've already tried our well-known Drag and Drop Lite Question Widget, but were a bit frustrated by the limitations that the quiz question format placed on your creativity, we think you'll be blown away by what this new Interactive Widget can do.  It does everything the current question widget does, aside from the aspects that are unique to question types (Review Area, Retake Quiz, etc) plus a whole lot more.  Due to the extra functionality, this widget has twice as much code as our last one.
    Some of the features:
You can have as many widgets as you want on a single slide and each can be addressing a different drag and drop scenario.
You can reference the same drag and target objects from different widgets to create different.
Since they are interactive widgets, you can use the widget success/failure criteria to trigger Advanced Actions.  This opens up a lot of possibilities for game interactions.
You can score each widget differently so that OnSuccess they will each report different scores for dragging the same objects.  This means you can have Conditional Scoring and more than one correct answer for a given problem.
You can set one of the widgets to have its Preferences be used for all widgets on the slide so that you don't need to set all widget preferences individually, thus saving a lot of time.
You can set Preference Priority for each widget to configure which widgets will have "right of way" if there is a potential conflict in preferences.  For example, if one widget wants one type of snapping behaviour on an object but another widget wants the same object to snap differently, the widget with the higher Preference Priority will dominate.
You can nominate other interactive objects (including clickboxes or other widgets) to act as Submit button and Clear button to create a simulated quiz question.
Since this widget is an Interactive widget, it also has the same advanced Pausing override behaviours we built into our Event Handler widget (http://www.infosemantics.com.au/eventhandler)  So you can have users stay on the same slide playing with the drag and drop interaction for as long as they like without progressing to the next slide until they want to.
Plus other stuff I can't think of right now.
If you decide to volunteer to participate in this Alpha testing, please don't use this widget for any production Captivate projects you may have.  The Alpha and Beta versions of the widget will be time-bombed to stop working after a couple of weeks so that we don't have buggy versions running around later.
As I said at the beginning, we only need a handful of testers, we need people using either Cp4 or Cp5, and you need to do this testing over the next week so that we can then address any issues you find and release a debugged Beta version for more testing.
    Anyone wanna play?
If you do want to volunteer, send me a private message on this forum with your email address so I can send you a widget and instructions.  We'll only be taking the first dozen or so people that are willing to contribute time and feedback.
    Cheers,
    Rod Ward

    Hi Sandy,
If you hover the mouse over Rod's avatar, there is an e-mail address visible. For a private message; double-click on his avatar and you'll find the button private message in that dialog box,

  • How to retain the master slide background at the end of the quiz reporting page of a project

I have noticed that the content of the master slide is not retained till the end in the quiz results page of the project. What should I do to retain the contents till the end of the project?

    Hi,
Thanks for your time. I have checked the transitions. i didnt give any transition to the slides in the project and i also check the preferences too, i had disable the options that is to fade in and fade out. My problem is "I have 12 slides in this with an intro slide and 10 question slides and then the quiz results page. In that result page, it is showing the result at the end of the result slide the pause button in the skin turned to play button. While clicking that play button it shows only the results, review quiz button and retake quiz button only. It doesn't display the images, widgets, text and some other options which is used in master slide or in the slide itself " Why those things have disappeared? Can you guide me how to overcome this issue.
The solution for the playbar is quiet good. One more doubt in that, The play bar should be displayed in that page but it should be disabled, Is there any solution for this? If yes, kindly share with me

  • Using aggregator, project template and master slides

I have been hired to create an online course on project management using Captivate. The organisation has colour coded 5 areas of the project cycle. I have never used Captivate, but I was wondering if the following is on the right track and if there are any issues I would need to be aware of. I thought I would create a project template; create a separate module for each part of the project cycle (plus the introduction, conclusion and quiz) and use a different master slide for each module to use their colours; then aggregate. It will be published as SCORM to be uploaded into the learning management system in Sharepoint. Thank you in advance for your advice.

Sounds like a good plan to me.  You might also consider using the diagram (if there is one) of the project process on the title slide of each module to help orient the learner as to which part is now being discussed.
One point though: If your LMS is using SCORM to track the learner's interaction with the course, don't use Aggregator to bundle the movies.  Use the Multi-SCO SCORM Packager instead.
Aggregator is fine for bundling courses that are just going to be delivered to end users rather than tracked.

  • Infosemantics Drag and Drop Interactive widget

I’ve added the Infosemantics Drag and Drop Interactive widget to my project, but it only works after publishing via a computer and not on an iPad.  I published using both SWF and HTML5 so it “should” work. The HTML tracker for that slide does not list any unsupported slides or objects.  If this widget is not compatible with the iPad, is the new Captivate drag and drop feature available for Subscription and ASA customers work on an iPad?  If so, is there a student rate for either a Subscription or ASA? Thanks so much.

The drag&drop wizard in 6.1 is easy to use, but doesn't have all the functionality that you find in the InfoSemantics Interactive widget. Just want to warn you. I am using both: for simple Drag&Drop I'll use the wizard, but as an example to create a custom matching or sequence question slide I need InfoSemantics widget, that is not possible with the 6.1 D&D.

  • Adobe Captivate 6 - Interactive Widgets and Resume Playing Timeline?!

Hello! I am using Adobe Captivate 6 to work on several training projects and the slides where I have inserted interactive widgets (such as accordion theme), along with the normal text to speech and timed text boxes, when I go to publish in either html or swf those particular slides pause the whole presentation/training. Unlike the other slides that continue/play the timeline when entered these particular slides (with interactive widgets) do not do the same and pause the presentation (you have to press the play button on the menu bar to continue with narrative and I'm trying to have it play automatically). Does anyone know how I may go about having these particular slides not pause the presentation and continue playing the timeline. I've exhausted all measures and need help. Thank you.

In Captivate 6, all learning interactions (accordions is not an interactive
widget at all) were pausing the slide at the first frame, sorry. That has
changed later. In 7 and present version, most learning interactions do not pause at all (with the exception of some games), you have to pause yourself to allow time for the interaction.
Have some workarounds, but none for what you want. Keep the interactions on a separate slide is the only recommendation I can offer.
As for my first remark about Accordions not being an interactive widget, last night I tried to explain some concepts of the interactions to another user in this thread: Tracking Learning Interactions

  • YouTube Interactions Widget not working in Cp7

I have not yet been able to enjoy the new feature of the YouTube Interaction pre-built widget. When I try to test the YouTube video on the dialog box, I get a 404 Not Found error message. I get the same result if I publish the video anyway (I did this in case there was some connection issue internally on my computer). I am using Mac OSX Mountain Lion (Server) -- brand new computer. I have tried this with the firewall on and off. I can access the same YouTube page directly without a problem. It doesn't matter what video I use. It just doesn't load through Cp7. Also, the Web Objects widget works fine. Any other Mac user have this problem?

Hello Nitin and Sreekanth, Thanks for your suggestions and sorry for my delayed response. (I'm working on this project part-time.)
I have tried embedding the YouTube clip on a new slide (not one with the link on it). Actually, I was going to remove that link on the original slide once the embedded clip was up & running. (We had to check our copyright policy first, which is why we started off with the link.) Adding the interaction on a new slide made no difference; it didn't work.
I have also tried changing the timing. Actually, it was originally set to 'rest of slide' but I changed it to 'duration of animation' when the clip didn't work. Either way, it doesn't work. I have also tried checking 'synchronize with project'. I don't really know what that entails but it was worth a go. Again, no luck.
I'm adding some more screenshots FYI. The first is the dialogue box that appears when you first open the YouTube interaction widget. I clicked the 'Test' button on the right and the clip launched in the browser so at least that works! But there's something incompatible with my slides. I wonder if I am the only one to have had this problem.
    Cheers, J.

  • Insert filename in master slide

Can somebody tell me how I can insert the filename into the master slide (like you can insert filename in Numberq and Pages) so that when I change my filename it automatically changes also in the master slide ? Many thanks for your help.

This feature is not available "in thebox"
You may go to my iDisk:

    and download:

    It contain two scripts.
One which pastes the pathname at the Insertion point.
One which insert the pathname at the end of the document.
I apologize but at this time I don't know the way to insert at the insertion point
