Interacvtive report - saving user data during App upgrade
Hi all,
I've read a few posts on this topic, but I don't think any were solved one way or another.
We use two servers here, one Development, one Production.
We have an interactive report were users over time build up many custom "tabs" for reporting, charts and day to day manipulation of data.
Come time to migrate all of the changes made in the Development server to the Production server, we Export from one and Import to the other. After this event, the users are presented with a fresh new Interactive report with all of their saved work gone.
Is there any way or any thing we can backup on the Production server to then restore after our applicarion import to retain this Interactive report user info?
NT
If you export from a given workspace ID and import into a workspace with the same ID (and of course keep the same application ID), I thought that the IR settings were preserved.

Apple Configurator - Updating to iOS 6.1.2 removed saved user data
We are currently managing several classroom sets of iPads using Apple Configurator. When updating to iOS 6.1.2 on the Supervise tab, about two-thirds of one classroom (about 20 iPads) and another 4 out of 6 in a special education classroom lost all previously saved data (application data, documents, pictures, etc.) during the update. We have another classroom that updated approximately 30 iPads following the same exact steps using the same configurator computer and none were erased so we're having a hard time figuring out the issue.
When I was watching the configurator run through the status updates during the iOS update (e.g. downloading iOS, decompressing iOS, installing iOS) there was another step on the iPads that lost data which was "supervising device." All of the iPads were already supervised so I don't know why this step occurred or what caused it to happen. With the grouping of 6 iPads, the 4 that were erased immediately started decompressing and installing iOS while the 2 that saved user data went to the downloading iOS stage first. I wasn't monitoring the grouping of 30 as closely, but I did notice the "supervising device" stage on the iPads that lost all user data.I think for the teachers you are going to have to tell them to copy their data off the device.
Suggest dropbox or other cloud storage. Could set up a WebDave server.
A simple and popular way to copy files.
http://wiki.dropbox.com
Could set up sync-ing so they would come back in he fall. I'd be cautios and do everythig simple.
For syncing pc or mac folders to iPad applications.
"Using SugarSync, you simply designate folders that you want to “sync” to the cloud and it keeps everything in sync anytime you make changes. This is the way cloud storage should be done and especially if you are using your iPad for buisness or for school."
The only potential downside is that so many apps for the iPhone/iPad come with Dropbox sync built in which makes it extremely convenient.

Doug says:
"This can be done with Dropbox as well using one of the many Dropbox addons…"

Newbie question: Saving User Data on iPad
Hi
I am working on an App for iPad in Flash CS5.5.
In the app the user will be writing poetry and saving text on the iPad locally.
I need them to be able to decide which poem they load back into the app.
It seems to me this will qualify ofr saving to the /Documents folder.
I have looked at shared objetcs and dont think it will do that job.
Can I use FileReference on an iPad?
Will the user be able to browse the different files he/she has saved?
Can someone point me to some example code for saving to and loading from /Documents?
Best
Tommy BananaHere is some basic code that will work.
import flash.filesystem.*;
import flash.events.Event;
var f:File;
var fs:FileStream;
var myDATAstring:String;
function CheckSettings():void{
f = File.applicationStorageDirectory.resolvePath("Storage_File_Name.txt");
if(f.exists){
getDATA();
}else {
trace("Nothing stored yet");
function getDATA():void{
fs=new FileStream();
fs.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, onFileOpened);
fs.openAsync(f, FileMode.READ);
function onFileOpened(e:Event):void{
myDATAstring=fs.readUTFBytes(fs.bytesAvailable) as String;
fs.close();
//****** Use this to save the high score *******
function SaveDATA(s:String):void{
f = File.applicationStorageDirectory.resolvePath("Storage_File_Name.txt");
fs=new FileStream();
fs.openAsync(f, FileMode.WRITE);
fs.writeUTFBytes(s);

PLS HELP ive lost all my data during the upgrade!
Wednesday night i upgraded to ios5 the upgrade seemed to take a long time and hung right at the end of the instalation. A pop up screen appeared saying that i could complete instalation at a later data so i decided to do that. I did back up before the instalation took place.
Now however i cant retrieve any data, everytime i restore it will try for a few minutes then i get this 'itunes could not restore the iphone beacuse the backup was corrupt or not commapible with the iphone that is being restored' then the iphone is wiped and ive lost everything, 4 years of names, photos, contacts, texts everything gone. I then restored the backup directory from a previous backup on time machine, about two days earlier and one from the previous month. I have tried to restore the iphone again with these older backup and its doing the same thing error massage as above.
Can someone pls help me i even went to apple yesterday and they couldnt help they were like 'well you'll just have to start the phone from new'. Thats easier said than done. I have multiple backups on time machine i cant believe they are all corrupt, or is this to do with iTunes?
Help pls!!Sorry but I think all your current stuff is gone since you restored from an old backup.
Have you ever backup your 5C prior to it being restored? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766 -
Firstly, what do I have to do so that, when I upgrade FireFox, there is a restore point set? Do this manually? If so, alter your install procedure - a message to say - set a restore point now, because it won't be set automatically.
once more, after upgrading, my ReminderFox is gone. How can you do this? Offer something so good that becomes so important and then we lose it when we upgrade. I have installed 3.6 and my reminders are back! PLEASE let us know when you are releasing an upgrade that is compatible with ReminderFoxhttps://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/reminderfox/?src=search <br />
Version 1.9.9.4.3 Released September 22, 2011 859.1 KB <br />
'''Works with Firefox 3.0 - 10.*'''
That includes Firefox 9.0.1 compatibility.
Do you gave the latest version of ReminderFox installed? <br />
Beyond that, see ReminderFox help. <br />
http://www.reminderfox.org/help/ -
I am also unable to face time with same person? Do not even see the icon appear on making a call? Can anyone help? Thanks.

Restoring data back after upgrade
Hi I am planning to sell my 4s & buy a iPhone 5,I want all my data including photos and music to be restored back in my new phone.
I have iTunes back up in my computer.can any one tell me the procedure?
Will I loose any data during this upgrade.my phone runs in ios6 nowBackup up your current phone, the restore your new phone to this backup when you set it up, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109. The backup won't contain your music and other iTunes media; you'll need to sync your new phone with iTunes to transfer this. Be sure to sync your contacts with iCloud (Settings>iCloud>Contacs>On) as they aren't always recovered when restoring to your backup.

Lost data and apps after ipad upgrade
Just upgraded to iOS 5 with iPad1 and lost ALL apps ,, and worse yet .. all DATA is gone.
Everything appeared to proceed ok during the upgrade.
Lost critical data.
Suggestions?YES... PLEASE HELP SOMEBODY! Apple??? Why is there NOT a BIG WARNING about upgrades when you log on. I have lost hundreds of notes that were all my passwords etc. to my property management business. I kept them on my IPad3 because Apple, I was told by Apple rep, was sooo stable I should put all my important data on it. Now I find it's gonna' cost me like $70 dollars to get my data! I found software that will fetch it and I can see it on the free trial but to get it back it will cost me! APPLE - YOU SHOULD HAVE A FIX that does not cost you users more money! I had just got approved from the budget committee to get 32 I pads for our sales teams and managers but NOT now. I have read that 74% of all users who upgraded have lost photos, notes and darn near everything else. What the......? PUT OUT A WARNING - BEFORE UPGRADING BACK UP EVERYTHING OR MY MAY LOSE IT! Just bad business and not something that a reputable company would do. Gotta go now and spend $70 bucks of my hard earned money on a system that lost half of my stuff on it and now freezes up ALL THE TIME, can't watch the news, can't run most apps correctly and sure can't watch You tube even. Reboots itself constantly and I REALLY wish I didn't have it. When my new android tablet gets here next week I may sell this **** thing on Craig's list. Signed - Really disappointed in Apple and the crappy upgrade system!

Wasn't given option to "upgrade" and lost user data
I was trying to upgrade from 10.2.9 to 10.3 yesterday and during the install I didn't see an option to "upgrade" or save the data that was already on the computer (iMac G3). After the install I see that there are no users except the account I was asked to create during the install. So I guess it did a clean install and deleted all the data from the drive? But then I notice that the trash has files in it from before the install. Nothing I'm looking for, but that tells me that some things didn't get removed altogether.
So I'm wondering if there is a way for me to recover the users data that was on here before I did the install.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. : )
Thanks a lot,
-GarnerIf you are upgrading to 10.3 from a previous major version the Upgrade option is usually the default. If you simply clicked along the upgrade install is performed (unless there is some problem.) Are you sure the user accounts have been deleted? Are you sure you didn't do an Archive and Install? If so, check in the root directory of the hard drive for a Previous System Folder.

User data permanently saved on iPhone. Even after FULL 2 HOUR WIPE
Just got my 3G S and I restored my old iPhone 3G prior to selling it. After that I found that all my user data was saved on the phone. When I downloaded Pandora and opened it, my account info was saved and I auto-logged in.
I researched and found the FULL ERASE option inside the iPhone settings. So I performed the full erase, which takes about 2 hours. Then it restored again.
After that, I went into settings --> App store. My old account email was still there!! I changed it to a new email address and logged in. Then I downloaded Pandora again. SAME PROBLEM! AUTO-LOG IN!
So app store and pandora both had my old user info saved.
To say that I am frustrated, upset, and ready to die, is a gross understatement. My iTunes randomly lost it's entire music library as well. (All 13,000 + songs were missing and could not be found, yet the files are perfectly fine.)
This is never ending. How do I just wipe my phone?? Please help ;-(
Crying,
-Carlos-Visited the Apple store today and they replaced the phone. They could not explain what was going on except for being a software issue.
They said if after restoring I have the same issue, you would have to restore the phone to new and re-install all apps and information manually from scratch.
I restored the phone from my backup, and all went well. No more slow LTE speeds, plus a new device.
The only thing I can think of that may have happened is updating carrier settings while updating the iOS at the same time. I thought it was normal because iTunes popped up the carrier update notification a few seconds later after starting the iOS 8 update.
The carrier update did have an option to cancel. I will definitely wait for the iOS update to complete before I update carrier settings next time.
I'm just wondering if my phone was out of warranty, and this happened, would Apple still replace the device? -
I just upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.1 and would like to turn off sending crash data to App developers. How do I do this?
Hello prlipton,
If you want to stop sending reports to Apple and developers when apps crash, then go to System Preferences, click on Security & Privacy and click on Privacy. You will then see on the left side of the window an section for Diagnostics & Usage with the option to turn off sending crash data to app developers. Take a look at the article below for more information.

OD Upgrade: merge backed up user data with new accounts?
Hi All,
After trying many paths to upgrade a 10.6.8 OD server to 10.10 we gave up on export / import of the whole directory. We kept running into the “Existing connection is not authenticated” error caused by some kind of certificate mis-match. Searching for fixes inevitably led to this article which indicates the “rekerberize” method should not be used on Yosemite.
So we punted and installed everything clean from scratch. We think we found a method that restores all users and their home dirs. I’m posting here to see if anyone may critique our method as unsafe. We’ve done some testing but users are not let loose on the new system yet so we aren’t quite 100% certain.
The basic steps we eventually took were:
Grab export of users from 10.6 server
Fresh install of OS X 10.10, patch to 10.10.1 (cloned old system first so we can always go back)
Install Server
Correctly configure DHCP and DNS and File Sharing
Create Directory
Create self signed cert (this was necessary to get 10.6 clients to auth; 10.10 clients work out of the box)
Edit user export file to fixup change in FQDN: %s/<old_fqdn>/<new_fqdn>/g
Import users into Directory using the fixed up export file
Copy user home dirs from 10.6 backup into new file share (the user home dir path matches the fixed up export file)
chown each user dir to the new user: sudo chown -R <user>:students /Users/<user> (In earlier passes at the upgrade, we also propagated permissions and ACLs from within Server.app at this step. But the fresh install didn’t seem to need this — chown appears to be enough.)
The Keychain came across with wrong perms and instead of resetting the perms, it made more sense in our case to just delete it: sudo rm -rf /Users/<user>/Library/Keychains
We’ve done a reasonable amount of testing and it looks like all of the user’s files are accessible and working fine. I expect we may find some application data in user home dirs that may have wrong perms (like keychain did) or otherwise be incoherent to the new system. But so far we haven’t found any such issues.
So the crux of this post is: Is it prudent to import user data from another system and expect a simple chown command will make all right with the new system? Or are we glossing over some low-level fundamental (Server File Sharing ACLs?) and creating a time-bomb that will only go off after a week of user data changes at which point any path back out will involve user data loss.
We’re going to start letting some users log on and grab their home dirs in the next day or two. Any and all comments are welcome.
Thank you,
-JUse Migration Assistant to restore your user files. You can find this application in /Applications/Utilities, so connect the external drive with your files, open Migration Assistant and follow the steps. Migration Assistant will create a second user account with your restored files.
Migration Assistant will let you restore everything you had before (applications, pictures, music, videos...) and will let you choose which folders you want to restore. As you want to restore the iTunes library, make sure you check the Music folder.
Respecting to iPhoto, that application is not included with OS X, so you have to download it from the Mac App Store. Just open it, log in with your Apple ID, go to Purchases and download it free of charge. -
App upgrade during iOS 7 upgrade?
Can someone tell me whether, when you upgrade from iOS 6 to iOS 7 all your apps get upgraded to the latest versions automatically. I am not talking about the options AFTER you have upgraded - I am talking about DURING the upgrade. My wife hates the latest version of one of her apps!
It is called BUS LONDON and she uses it in a particular way that is no longer possible. I told her they had made it more sophisticated and she said I don't want sophisticated I want what it did before. I had to go on to her iTunes and download the previous version - that saved a divorce as it was me who had upgraded it! I am trying to talk her into i0S 7 (I love it) and will need to make sure that, for her, the automatic upgrade of apps is turned off.

Hello,
a few days ago my PC (part of our domain) first started to have problems with my user profile. Our domain uses roaming profiles with a size limit of 30MB. My user.dat has a size of 12.5MB. Up to now this did not cause any problems (and does not cause any for
most users of our domain having a user.dat of similar size). However, after upgrading to Windows 8.1 I repeadly have problems with my profile exceeding its maximum size. After checking my profile, I found a ntuser.dat.LOG1 with 12,5MB in size and a ntuser.dat.LOG2
of 2MB. As far as I know these files are used to store temporary transactions for the user.dat. But why are they this large? Together they almost completely fill the profile. As an interesting side node the last modification of ntuser.dat.LOG1 dates back more
then seven days.
What is further puzzling me: ntuser.dat.LOG1 and ntuser.dat.LOG2 are not synchronized with the roaming profile on the server. At least they are not on the server. However there used to be much smaller versions of these files which could have been transfered
before the profile size exceeded its limit. Since these file seem not to be part of the roaming part of the profile, they should not count for the roaming profile size. However, they definitely do. Neglecting the registry files the largest file in my profile
is less than 500kb and there are very few files of this size. I checked locally as well as on our server.
Deleting the local profile and starting fresh using the roaming profile from our server does work for a day or two but then I run into the same problem. Especially, loosing all local profile data is inconvenient. I could start a new with a completely new
profile, but I am not convinced that it is a profile issue. In our organisation my computer is one of the first to move to Windows 8.1. Since my profile worked without problems for years now, I am worried that I ran into a Windows 8.1 issue. As users normally
start to complain about a roaming profile not synchronizing only after their local copy broke, I'd like to make sure that this is a isolated issue.
Anyone else experiencing similar issues? Any hint on how to solve the problem?
Regards,
OliverNo, I did not find a solution. However, we moved away from roaming profiles and rely on folder redirection only. That works for us. Since we can redirect the most important folders there is no more need for roaming profiles (at least in our case).
