Interchange file substituting font without error or notice

WinXP, InDesign3,v5.0.2
InDesign3 file using Gill Sans Book, Gill Sans Reg etc, file has been exported to inx file to remove old plugin info. now when file is opened in CS3, InDesign replaced Gill Sans Book with Gill Sans Reg (no error or substitution notice, it is actually changed in the paragraph style).
is there another workaround for this snafu? Using Suitcase, Gill Sans font being used is 15 yr old Monotype font.
sandy

There was a bug in previous versions of ID where it couldn't distinguish between regular and book weights of a font. This may be connected to that, but I had thought that it would have been fixed by now.

  • File and Font Server Errors

It looks like this error is pretty common around here.
Anyway, I've encountered my Cloud Synching freezing up at about 1.35GB worth of actual content. I wouldnt mind uploading more but Im not able because of the Server Error pause. This would be very helpful in the realm of After Effects projects where my footage is bundled into one folder (though there are many sub-folders to keep things organized).
I've tried deleting Preference files and installing/reinstalling with no luck. An Adobe Rep in online chat brought me here and I've checked the list of files that have odd file names and what-not. What gives, Adobe? Are there any other fixes for this and is there anyone out there that can help me work across multiple platforms?

Thanks for responding. Here are the errors Im getting.
My file sync went up to 1.35GB and paused. It does not go any further. This isn't particularly helpful since Im using After Effects and we've collected our files on Clouds before without problem for a team of different artists.
I myself am using a Mac system, an older model of a MacBook Pro, using Mavericks (which has it's own issues).
This is happening with the Desktop client. I have tried using the Web Page before but I can only do this manually, one folder at a time and even then, uploads are slow (which would be forgiveable) but still unsuccessful.

  • Illustrator substitutes fonts when opening document without warning.

Have an annoying issue hopefully somebody can shed light on. When we activate fonts using font management software, work on a file, close the file and then deactivate those fonts, if we open the file again without turning the fonts back on, the file will load without giving a missing font warning and substitute the fonts to myriad. In a few test, the fonts were still open, and no substitution occured, BUT, random blocks of type were inexplicably empty. When the file gets reopened with fonts reactivated or if Ilustrator is restarted, everything behaves normally.
This was tested on os 10.5.8 on multiple machines using Illust CS4, Suitcase, Universal Type Server and Font Explorer X. Test were made both before and after using Font Nuke to clean font caches to the same effect.
Anybody have any idea how to prevent this behavior? I don't want Illustrator to substitute fonts without warning me that fonts are missing....ever. If it must, can I have it substitute to wingdings or chinese characters or something that will be a bit more obvious than myriad?

Yeah, this is very big and money cost problem, happened to me a few times and couldnt find and answer. To try to prevent this  I did this two posible options, but is not perfect...
    1. There is an option under the page setup uncheked by default named "Highlight substitude fonts" so you have to check this option for every document you have and make, what a nightmare, this must be checked by defalut, please adobe team...!
    2. Also yo can try to change the default font following this steps, another nightmare because not always work
To change the default font for Illustrator CS4
Choose  File > Open and go to Documents and Settings/User/Application  Data/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS4 Settings/New Document Profiles  (Windows) or to Users/User/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe  Illustrator CS4/New Document Profiles (Mac OS).
Open  one of the default document profile template files (Basic CMYK, Basic  RGB, Mobile and Devices, Print, Video and Film, or Web, depending on  which type of document you intend to use).
Choose Window > Type > Character Styles.
Select the Normal Character Style and choose Character Style Options from the palette menu.
Select Basic Character Formats and choose the desired font from the Font Family menu.
Click OK, and then choose File > Save and close the file.
    Restart Illustrator
Give it a try and tell us..

  • InDesign CS3 crashes without error when opening any 2nd InDesign file

Issue: InDesign CS3 crashes without error and remains resident in memory if we have an InDesign file open and attempt to open a second InDesign file.
    OS: Win XP SP2
    InDesign Version: 5.0.2
Hardware: Dell Precision WorkStation T3400, 4 gigabytes of memory, Intel Core2 Quad processor Q6600
Details: No messages in the event viewer about the problem. We renamed the InDesign Defaults and the InDesign Saved Data file. We removed Creative Suite, restarted and then reinstalled Creative Suite (I could not remove and reinstall InDesign individually). We have created a new Windows profile for this user. I have one computer having the trouble. Other InDesign installations are working fine. This computer has 559 files in C:\windows\fonts. Other people that are not having the problem have a larger number of fonts installed.
The issue is not file specific. We are not running out of memory as I checked the task manager after the first InDesign document is open.
Why is opening a second document different than opening the first document?

    Hello Peter and Josh,
I'd just like to assert that I am having the exact same problem as Josh. I've spent the time to go through the steps listed above and have found the same results.
The issue as we see it multiple times daily is as follows:
    (1) User opens File1 (everything works fine)
    (2) User goes to open File2 (via explorer or via file->open) or print File1
    (3) The User Interface for ID disappears (InDesign.exe still appears in Task Manager and is NOT listed as "Not Responding", ID does not appear in the Task Bar)
    (4) The only way to continue work is to End Task/End Process InDesign.exe and relaunch.
No error messages appear, no error logs are created(that I can find). Non-related concerns caused us to upgrade this users PC. With a completely new install we are still having the problems. The systems are listed as follows:
OS: Win XP SP2 (fully updated minus SP3)
    InDesign Version: 5.0.2
Newest Hardware: Custom Built Computer, 4GB RAM installed (3.24 recognized by windows), Intel Core2 Quad processor Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz
OS: Win XP SP2 (fully updated minus SP3)
    InDesign Version: 5.0.2
Older Hardware: Custom Built Computer, Intel D945GTP Motherboard, 2GB RAM installed, Intel Pentium D processor @ 2.8Ghz
    Troubleshooting:
    (1) Alt+Space and M then using arrow keys moves every other window the user had opened other than In-Design. The user has two monitors. (a) 1280x1024 and (b) 1200x1600 (yes she uses the monitor rotated 90 degrees
    (2) Log files - Non exist in the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS3 folder. I've also done a search across the entire hard drive for any "*.log" files, none of which were adobe related.
    (3) Default Printer - Changing the default printer to Adobe PDF is not really an option. I was able to convince the user to temporarily switch to a different networked printer and await the results (most likely today or tomorrow it should recreate)
    (4) /3GB switch - Getting that last 700 something MB of memory isn't an issue. I've run MemTest.exe on all the available system memory overnight in a "burn in" test. The system ran fine the sticks were nice and warm when I got in from all the hard work :)
    (5) Order of Opening - The problem repeates regardless of order. The trick seems to be opening File2 or printing File1 (I had the user only work on one file at a time (required her to close any open files before opening the next, that wasn't fun for my user but the system didn't crash on opening in this scenario, just on printing. Obviously not a permanent work around)
Any help here would be much appreciated as this has been plaguing us for months now.

  • How do you run a .sh file without errors?

Hi. For any of you who are familiar with the game Minecraft, I'm trying to start making my own mods using Minecraft Forge Source. However, in the installation instructions, it says I have to run the install.sh file. But whenever I run it in Terminal, here's all that comes out in the Terminal window:
    *******-MacBook-Pro:~ *******$ /Users/*******/Downloads/forge/install.sh ; exit;python: can't open file 'install.py': [Errno 2] No such file or directory
    logout
    [Process completed]
Could somebody tell me how to properly run the .sh file without errors? Any help that anyone gives will be appreciated. Thanks.

    You can try Crossover.
It isn't free, but it lets you run most common windows apps without having to buy windows. (it only works on intel macs).
    Good luck!

  • Finding Substituted Fonts

We have an InDesign file from a client to which we have to make a few changes, we also have their print-ready PDF supposedly created from the InDesign file.
A math character is showing in InDesign with the dreaded pink background because the font is being substituted. I know this by turning off and on the "Substituted Fonts" option in the Preferences, Composition. The PDF indicates this character is in the Symbol font but InD still indicates a substitution (and the character doesn't look the same as what's in the PDF) even when we load the symbol font, Type1 or TTF. InD's font menu shows that the font is in Bembo (the text font) even though it is the Type 1 Bembo that does not even HAVE that character. I suspect all of this has something to do with the fact that this file was initially created on a Mac and we work in Windows, which I'm willing to live with and circumvent. However, any enlightenment would be much appreciated as to why InD flags the character but doesn't show it as being in the font it (apparently) was originally.
As our archival service grows we're going to be opening other people's InD files more and more and I've not been able to find a way to search for characters with substituted fonts like this one. Turning on the option in the preferences and looking through the file manually is time consuming and prone to error at best, even for a good operator.
I didn't see anything on the find dialog and I didn't see anything in the preflight (which really surprised me) and nothing shows up for it in the Find Font dialog. I even tried a quickie script checkig the status of the fons in the document but was unable to see anything that would help in identifying characters/fonts like this.
Is there a way to find these other than manually looking for the pink background?
    Many thanks,
    Ken

You can't often control what you are given (sometimes not at all), but one of the downsides of working on the PC is that the Mac TT and PS fonts won't work for you on their own (maybe they can be re-jiggered, but that will likely violate the EULA from the font maker). If you were on a Mac and the roles were reversed, you could use PC fonts, but that's beside the point. The best case scenario is if the files were set using Open Type fonts, since they are cross-platform compatible. I know this doesn't offer any fix for your problem, but I just wanted to throw it out there.
There are versions of fonts that are different but have the same name, and I'm guessing this may be part of your problem. Even if you have the PC version from the same foundry as the Mac version, there may be differences. I'm not even close to being a font expert, so I can't tell you how it all works under the hood, but I imagine you are seeing pink because even though the font names are the same, the code is different, so the PC/InDesign is telling you you don't have the right font. The only option is to see if you can find other versions of the font that will work.
And lastly (this may be a stretch), are there any character styles applied to this text that may be mucking it up?

  • Illustrator CC issues, not opening legacy files or fonts?

Using CC for a few weeks and I am not yet convinced of its quality over my faithful CS5. I have an issue with files not opening, they may once when I start Illustrator, but then they do not again. Illustrator doesn't freeze, it allows me to carry on with the file I am working on but I can not open any legacy file?. I have tried opening by double click, by file>open, I have opened a legacy file back in CS5 copied the graphics and attempted to paste them into my CC document and nothing, the only way I can get around this is to shut the program and or machine down and start again?
Also the same with fonts, if I have a file open, and open fonts afterwards, Illustrator has a mind of its own whether it wants to show the fonts or not. Some days its happy to, others it has a bad day and will not show them in the list at all no matter how many times I reload them, only a shut down fixes this?
Is there a preference I am missing to allow legacy files?

There's no problem with opening CC files in CS5, I am finding when CC starts being problematic I am downsaving my CC file (current file I am working on, as I can still use this) to a Legacy CS5 and finishing the job in CS5 just for speed as I can then open my original CS5 files that I need without issue.
It is peculiar, it has just done it again, I can start up Illustrator and it will open a legacy file, but a few hours after use, I try to re-open the same legacy file and nothing, no error, no file opens, nothing, I can still work on the file I am in, but no joy with opening the old file.
There is a clash, or preference inconsistency, I just can't figure out what it is yet, I was hoping for ideas from the good folk out there .......

  • Files and font sync turn off working with InDesign..

    Hi
Files and font sync turns off when I work with InDesign directly on the CC disctop files folder. It use to be ok to work directly in sync mode, but apparently not any more. I guess the problem is the backup file that InDesign creates, that consist of signs behaps not allowed (?). It use to work for me, but not any more..?
Do anyone els have the same problem?
    Jørgen

    Hi again
Thanks for your reply. In the Creative Cloud Help page I get, it says: "Save and close the file when you're done editing it and the error goes away.", but I actually have to reconnect. The bad thing about this is that it turns off the font sync as well when I was working.
I have temporarely solved the problem, simply be changing the name of the file I'm working on. I have tryed to reproduce it with a different name - all with leagal signs according to the page mensioned above - with no success (which is positive). Then I tryed to move the file to a new folder within the folder I was working on, and then it  worked without problem. Strange.
I guess, if I run in to the same problem again, I will just try to change the name.
    Thanks

  • 2008 R2 Backups running without error, but doing FULL backups twice a week...

I have two Windows Server 2008 R2 systems which I am backing up with the native WSB utility.  Both are VMs under ESXi 5.5 on the same physical Dell R710 host.  Each has its own 2 TB USB connected device which was dedicated to and formated by and
for WSB.  Both complete their respective backups without error and have been up for months.
On system A, WSB reports there are 243 copies available and examining the drive shows there is 288 GB free of the 1.81 TB total.
On system B, WSB reports there are 11 copies available and examining the drive shows there is 1.33 TB free of the 1.81 TB total.
My question is, why doesn't system B leverage a similar amount of the drive?
    Thank you for any ideas!
    Clay
    Newark IT Guy...

I may be way off base as I'm a real estate agent not an IT person and I've just started learning about WSB/wbadmin last week, but here are my thoughts:
    1. Mandy's response is all about MaxShadowCopies which has little to do with the OPs issue (I think).  MaxShadowCopies is associated with "Client Accessible Shadow Copies" and related "Shadow Copies for Shared Folders." Useful for when
you accidentally delete or mess up a file in some way and you quickly and easily restore a previous version of that file via the file's properties window.  Going down the wrong path with this I think except for the small caveat that the absolute 512 shadow
copy maximum applies to WSB shadow copies.  Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
    2. system B may have hit the "Maximum Shadow Copy Storage Space" setting for that volume.  From the command line, use command "vssadmin list shadowstorage" and compare the "used shadow copy storage space" to the Maximum.
If it is close, or if an additional backup would cause it to exceed the limit, the system will delete backups from shadow copy until there is room for the new one (again, "I think" this is so).  See the vssadmin resize shadowstorage" command
    options for adjusting the size.
    3. I've read a few examples where the free space shown via a drive's properties was wrong for various reasons so maybe this is your circumstance.  So, system B may have had much less available space than you think, and because of limited space, The new
full backup takes priority and WSB is automatically deleting older shadow copy snapshots in order to make room for the new backup.  Run chkdsk on that volume and see what the "available" space is.
Also, If it turns out you do have a space issue, Do you know for sure that your backups are succeeding?  If the low number of backups is due to limited space, it could also cause the new backups to fail due to not enough space.
Caveat on all of the above: I am quite uncertain about all of this, so hopefully someone will chime in and corroborate or correct my comments.
As a parting thought, I'll have to say that after reading the forum for a few hours trying to learn about WSB/wbadmin it is disappointing to see, in thread after thread, so many canned responses linking the same reference material without any attempt to actually
answer the OPs questions or deepen understanding of the subject.  Is this forum managed by paid employees?  If so, it feels like many simply locate a document that "might" be related, then they copy and paste a link along with a few statements
directly from said document.  No added insights of their own, no furthering or revealing of nuances about the subject at all.  Mandy's post above is a prime example.   Just an observation from a new visitor to this forum.
PS - I did notice that "Sriram [MSFT]" posted some very very helpful comments on the WSB & VSS subjects, just wish there were more like his.

  • CS5 Default substituted fonts

I'm asking this question for the editor that I regularly work with on projects. He works on a Windows laptop editing a lot of content that is designed on Intel Macs. We share multi-use fonts through Universal Type client but whenever we use system fonts, we run into the issue where different computers have different versions of the same font. So whenever he opens one of our documents in IC, he gets a missing fonts warning for fonts that he has (Times, Arial, Wingdings, etc.).  Is there a way that he can set those fonts to be substituted by the system font versions that he has so that he can see the approximate flow using the correct font without having to actually replace the font (which would then mean that the designers would have to replace the font again when they reopen the file)?  Hope that makes sense. I know IC uses a default font to substitute missing fonts, I'm just wondering if there is away to permanently assign certain fonts to substitute certain missing fonts.

We have Font Folio (the first open type version) that we share the licenses for through Universal Type Client, but the system fonts are the problem--the fonts that aren't included in Font Folio that are installed with each system's OS.  Some of us have OT versions, some of us have TT versions, and those crazy Macs keep throwing elusive dfonts into the mix. Wingdings is the biggest headache. The character sets are the same from computer to computer, but not the font types, so you're constantly getting missing font messages just for using the bullet in a bullet list. It's all well and good to say what we should have on every computer, but we're a ministry and we can't afford to repurchase fonts for every computer just because the OS that it comes with doesn't have the same version of the same font that every other computer has. If we could just change the default of the substitute font to show the closest approximate for editing purposes, it would be a good workaround.  The editors are not creating final product, just editing text, so they just need to see the closest approximate on their system (which is often the same font) without actually changing the font.  I was just hoping this was some option buried somewhere in the app that you could set, but obviously not.
In our defense, we don't use system fonts that much, but they do creep into a layout, such as using a bullet list which defaults the wingding font and having a style based on the default paragraph style (which is usually a system font), etc.

  • CRM 2015 installation hangs without errors on Windows Server 2012 installed in a VM

I have installed a Windows Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012 on a VM using VMware Player and then installed Dynamics CRM 2013, working out all the configuration problems.
The installation hanged once without errors and when I tried it again it was installed, no problems. Dynamics CRM 2013 works without issue.
Then I copied the machine, uninstalled the Dynamics CRM 2013 and started installing CRM 2015. However this time without errors the installation hangs even though I tried more than 5 times.
There are no errors, installation program is not unresponsive and task manager shows nothing out of the ordinary.
I have also tried this on multiple physical and virtual PCs to no avail.

  • Cash Management - AutoRecon without errors, but still unreconciled?

    Hi guys,
    Pretty interesting question:
I have multy period's bank file (transactions for 3 accounting periods), all settings are according the manual on AP and CM sides done.
Statement's Import finished without errors, AutoReconciliation finished without errors, but Statement still have status UNRECONCILED and on AP side transactionsin ap_checks_all table still have STATUS_LOOKUP_CODE as NEGOTIABLE, and CLEARED_AMOUNT, CLEARED_DATE, REQUEST_ID, CLEARED_ERROR_AMOUNT and ACTUAL_VALUE_DATE fields are still empty.
The periods were OPEN at the time of a run.
Only when I go to the Statement in CM and open the lines and reconcile them one by one it works.
Please advise, any help will be appreciated!
    Bok

    Hi,
    Step: 1
Check the System parameters Auto Reconciliation Setups
    Step: 2
Check the Bank Statment line has Bank Transaction Code attached
    Step: 3
Check the Document number given in Bank Statement line is matching exactly with the Payment/Receipt
    Step: 4
Check the Bank Code attached to line is same as the available line you are trying to match i.e. RCT to Receipt, PMT to Payment etc
    Step: 5
Assign MO: Security Profile Option to your user id
Run Autoreconciliation Program now. The issue should be resolved.

  • How do I get the Audio Books to stick without error on any of my car

    Good evening all.
I have been drafting a FAN message in my head for several days now, mainly because I have seen so many people baggin all over the ZEN in a number of posts... It's getting late, and I am resolved to not bore everyone with my rhetorical delights, so - for this night I enter to say: - THANK YOU so very much for the Helpful Hints thread, that was very kind. And 2- The PQI SD cards, both the 2GB as well as the 4GB are a hit with the ZEN as well as all the others mentioned thus far.
Seems a big crowd is very disappointed with the cans and cant's of the internal memory being able to sync up directly with the SD cards; maybe my total "newby'ness", but I am thrilled with my product... I purchased the 2GB ZEN, and then scored the Bluetooth headphones that were discounted over a hundred bux over the Father's Day weekend.
I'm a disabled, over the hill gentleman, and wanted a media player to keep me company on the powerwheelchair rides into town and what not... Yes... Being able to drag or send **bleep** from internal memory to the SD card, vice versa would be a treat, but things are workable as is.
My ONLY problem thus far has been in trying to re-sync a couple of Audio Boox, FROM my ZEN internal flash memory, to my PC (that part looks as if it works out OK, and I can get them imported back into the AudioManager library) and then try to get them to hook in error free to one of the SD cards (it's here where the difficulty occurs)... I'd much prefer to have just music on the internal flash, and then carry all my extras on my cards; but I was all excited and stuff... Tried to take baby bites and little steps, but just couldn't resist digg!
There is simply no way that I can figure out how to get the Audio Books to stick without error on any of my cards. And therefore I am reluctant to delete them off the ZEN itself.
    Ahhhwell... Li've and learn!
Overall.. I am tickled green with the Creative ZEN, the Earphones and the investment into the extra 0 gigs of card memory.
Well... That was a bit longer than I wished, but for ME, it was a pretty **bleep** short write!
    Good night all.. Sleep well...
    gypsy
OH.. And my daughters little PNY 28mb card works with the unit too
Admin notes: I moved the message from the locked sticky (undergoing cleanup now) so that others can help.

Even if you could get protected content on the SD cards, AFAIK the Zen won't support bookmarks for files on the SD cards. That would make listening to lectures or audio books on the SD card would be very inconvenient?(who wants to have to remember where their place is, then fast forward to it each time they restart listening to it's). I am curious. Do you have any problems getting the audiobook files to play in the correct order, or do the tags sort them properly? It seems like many series of lectures or other series of audiofiles sort properly on the pc or in mp3 players that use the folder/filename system, but might not sort properly based on the ID3 tags?

  • Exchange Server 2013 Missing file on ISO install Error Code 1603

Hi all,   a mystery needs solving any suggestions much appreciated:
We are trying to install Exchange Server 2013 on Windows 2012 server.
The ISO File being used is: SW_DVD9_Exchange_Svr_2013w_SP1_MultiLang_Std_Ent_MLF_X19-35118
All preparation and requisites in place.
During Stage 2 Copying files, we receive an error code 1603 and installation halts.
    The error states:
Installing product F:\exchangeserver.msi failed. Fatal error during installation. Error code is 1603. Last error reported by the MSI package is 'Source file not found: F:\Setup\ServerRoles\ClientAccess\Owa\prem\version\resources\themes\base\0\microsoft.o365.controls.timeline.mouse.css.
Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.'.
We have verified that the Path in the error is correct and exists BUT the file is not present within the 0 folder.
We have downloaded the ISO from our Action Pack resources twice and attempted 4 separate installations.
We have tried both Mailbox/Client Access  and Mailbox only installations.
The missing file: microsoft.o365.controls.timeline.mouse.css. Hopefully the only file misisng???
Any ideas anyone, could we source a different ISO or copy of the file or ?????
    Many thanks in advance

Had the same issue with Exchange 2013 SP 1 Downloaded as an ISO from the Volume License Center, installing on a new Server 2012R2 STD box. I found the equivalent file in another ISO but discovered it was just an empty CSS file. So the easiest way is to not
bother trying to find the file but: 1) open notepad, 2) set save to "All Files", and 3) save an empty CSS file with that filename then place it in the directory indicated in the path given in the error. (Make sure it saves as
a CSS and not as a TXT.)
I reran the install and it completed without issue.
