Interchangeability of RoboHelp for HTML Help

Hi,
I'm wondering if there is any problem with modifying the
project created in RoboHelp 9.2 in RoboHelp X5.
Before, I experienced some errors doing that...but not sure.
Does anyone know about interchangeability among different
versions of RoboHelp?
Thanks.

Can you clarify one point? You refer to interchangeability
rather than upgrading. Are you needing to be able to work on the
project in both versions or just X5?
If it is the latter, with the exception of one problem
affecting winhelp and printed output, you should be able to upgrade
without problems. Tell us of the errors you experienced and maybe
someone can help.

Looking for someone in the Fort Lauderdale area ?

    Morning Peter,
Thanks for getting back to me. I'm still waiting to hear from Adobe's customer service team - hopefully they'll provide the free uprgrade to version 5 option. Re upgrading, you say that you can upgrade to version 8 from any other version, but just chatting to an Adobe rep. online, he tells me that you can't upgrade from x4.1 to 8 - we'd have to buy the full version.

  • Crash on search function for HTML Help file (.chm) when connected to a Visual C++ application

Crash on search function for HTML Help file (.chm) when
connected to a Visual C++ application
I use the RH_ShowHelp API command to connect a HTML Help file
(.chm file generated by RoboHelp Word X 5) to my Visual C++
application. My application is able to call up this HTML help file
in context-sensitive mode and everything is working great in the
Contents and Index panels EXCEPT when I click on List Topics (after
I enter a KEYWORD for search) in the Search panel.
I got an error that said “Unhandled exception in
    xxxx.exe.(HHCTRL.OCX):0xC00000FD: Stack overflow”
I am able to execute this .chm file by itself and the search
function works well in this case. I am using HHActiveX.dll that is
created on 2/23/04. Is this the correct version?? Any advice what
    to do here??

Hi agschin and welcome to the RH forums. The hhactivex.dll
file is not used by the search function so you can rule that our.
Have you tried recompiling and seeing if the problem still happens?
You can also start the Bug Hunter feature in RH - View > Output
View and then select the Bug Hunter button - and see if that throws
    up any clues.

  • Robohelp for html project conversion to Robohelp for word

We have created our documentation using Robohelp for HTML v
    5.0.1
We find that the html editor in the program is too
restrictive. We would like to convert the entire project into
    Robohelp for word.
I cant find any way to do this. We're willing to buy a 3'rd
party utility of hire someone to do it.
    Can anyone provide some suggestions...

    Peter,
We are Amish when it comes to robohelp. :) So please excuse
    our ignorance... You say:
    >>As far as the printed document output is concerned,
    neither version of RH
    >>will give you that so you get much the same
    >> document either way. What do you have in mind to
    support the claim?
    and
    >> You put a page break in the Word source, the topic
loses the content after the page break
I was thinking that its easy in Word to put in a page break,
but did not actually try to generate a document from it!! Thanks
    for clarification...
Our current work around idea is this: We will try to embed a
special line in the document, like "<replace with new page >"
then we can do a search and replace on the word document to insert
the page break. Then we can create a single macro that is run
everytime after the document is to be printed.
Does anyone have any thoughts about that possible work
    around?
Im really glad to see this is such an active forum..
We did look at your site it was very helpful. Thanks.

  • Customize window size  for HTML Help?

My .CHM file opens up in a ridiculously tiny window, and I
can't seem to change that from within Robohelp. I saw some
information on Rick Steve's site about customizing window sizes for
Webhelp and Flashhelp. I'm hoping there's a similar technique
    available for HTML help.
    Thanks!

In Project Manager, double click Windows and then the window
you use. There should be fields for setting the size. If not, check
that HTML is your primary output and then create a new window, then
    you should see the fields.

  • Update RoboHelp for HTML X4.1 -- Office 2003

    Dear all,
I use RoboHelp for HTML X4.1. Last week Office 2003 was
    installed.
The error massage "The Import Word Document Wizard cannot
locate Microsoft Word. Please install Microsoft Word"
showed me, that I have to update RoboHelp.
The suggested way with Auto-Update (menu "HELP" --> "CHECK
FOR UPDATES" --> button "NEXT") lead to the
massage "No new updates were found."
I read the RoboHelp Service Releases page, but did not found
    the right download.
Please provide the right link for me!
    Thank you in advance!
    Andrew

Hi Andrew. I'm afraid that MS Office 2003 is not supported by
RHX4. There is an update to RHX5 to support it so your options are
to upgrade to X5 or get an earlier version of MS Office
    reinstalled.

  • Output File for HTML Help

I have created an HTML-based Help in RoboHelp. The output file was a *.chm file. The development team is indicating that the *chm file is not what is needed, and that they need an *.htm point/base file to integrate the Help into a web-based application. Is this correct? I thought that was a requirement for Web Help, but not for HTML Help. When integrating an HTML-based Help into a web app, is the individual *chm file the only file that needs to be handed off to development?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi there
The .CHM file format is for locally installed applications. WebHelp and FlashHelp are intended for being placed on a central server and accessed from there. WebHelp and FlashHelp exist as a collection of loose files.
You would likely benefit from viewing fellow Adobe Community Professional Peter Grainge's WebHelp articles.

  • RoboHelp for HTML 9 - Problem with viewing .chm file on 64bit machine

I am working with RoboHelp for HTML 9 on a 32 bit machine. Recently, we encountered problems when viewing a .chm file on a 64 bit machine. The TOC was fine, but the topics did not appear, only error message "Navigation of this web page cancelled". My compilation settings did not change since the last compilation some months ago. What happens?

Generally, I've only ever seen the need to ensure the CHM is unblocked if it has been downloaded from the web. I could see where it could possibly occur if one moved the CHM from a network drive to a local drive, but I'm skeptical that would be required in that case.

  • Visual Source Safe and RoboHelp for HTML

Do you ever successfully use Visual Source Safe for RoboHelp
for HTML? I got error when I checked out the file, looks like file
format in RoboHelp is not supported in Visual Source Safe. Can
somebody share the experience? Thanks a lot!

    Hey, Cathy!
The RoboSource Control in X5 was "adequate" in its day. But
remember, that was nearly 4 years ago
The problem was that the "free" Access database was not
really robust enough and to really make use of it, you need to use
MS SQL Server, which is expensive.
That was then. This is now. The RoboSource Control 3 that
comes with RoboHelp 6 is WAY more better
This is because, it allows you to use a free version of MS
SQL Server Express for a much more robust database.
So my advice would be to upgrade to RoboHelp 6 for sure. It's
not just hype. If for some reason you can't upgrade, then you might
be able to get away with the Access Database given that there are
only two of you. Since you already have it, you could create a
little test bed project and try it out. (I have a suggestion for
how to do that in my article. See link below)
For the lowdown on RoboSource Control 3 see this Matthew
    Ellison's fine article
    Getting
started with RoboSource Control 3 in RoboHelp 6
If you're interested in the "old" RoboSource Control that
comes with X5, you can check out my article to get you started.

  • Robohelp for HTML 8.0.2

    Hi
I have created Robhelp for HTML project in mutiple languages creating conditional build tag. I have also created Table of Contents in each langauge. While I am generating the Webhelp all files take default table of Content which is in English. Is there a way thet language specific files take language specific Table of Content.
    Thanks in davnce for help.

When you generate, on the first page of the wizard you select the TOC you want for the language you are generating at the time.
You could create multiple layouts with settings for each language to save you changing things each time.

  • RH Server 7 Necessary for HTML Help on Server?

    Hello,
I'm currently evaluating RH Server 7. The reports, etc.,
could be useful, but my real need is to be able to
publish/republish my HTML help files to the server in support of a
.NET web app; that is, repost files ongoing with updates, as
needed. Can I do this with just RH 7 (simple updates to the "live"
content), or is RHS7 required, does anyone know or is anyone
already doing this (perhaps with RH 5 or 6)?
    Thanks.
    Carl

    Hi, RollBarBound.
    >So I can publish WebHelp or WebHelp Pro for server-based
    applications without Server 7?
    Good question
One part yes, one part no! Some clarification is needed.
The word "server" is getting mangled here because you're
talking about the RoboHelp Server 7 on the one hand and
"server-based applications" on the other. Let's see if I can sort
    it out.
It sounds like WebHelp would be the most appropriate in your
situation (without the RoboHelp Server). You would use WebHelp Pro
*only* if you were publishing directly to RoboHelp Server 7. That
said, you can also have that same WebHelp Pro project provide help
    to any server-based application.
    Hope this helps.

  • Main window size for HTML Help

    Hello again
I have looked at the archives and despite thinking I had seen
this particular issue covered before, I could not find anything. I
generate a HTML Help File with RoboHelp for Word x5.0.1 and would
like to set the default window size as at the moment my Help File
opens in a rather small window. Also if a user maximises the
window, closes the Help File and re-opens it, it still opens in the
small windows, i.e. the size settings were not save upon closing
    the file.
Can anybody help? I reckon there must be some place (I
noticed the existence of the Edit > Windows menu but it only
seems to apply to WinHelp) I can set this up.
    Thank you.
    Regards,

In Project Manager, double click Windows and then the window
you use. There should be fields for setting the size. If not, check
that HTML is your primary output and then create a new window, then
    you should see the fields.

  • Hide hover text for HTML help file images???

When I build HTML help, hovering over the image shows the
graphic's name. Can this be hidden?

Hi Molly0602 and welcome to our community
Hmmm, not sure about using RoboHelp for Word to do this. Out
of curiosity, why are you using RoboHelp for Word to create HTML
based output? Why not switch to RoboHelp HTML? I don't believe this
is an issue in that environment.
    Just a thought... Rick

  • Using Contribute for HTML Help?

Hello- am wondering if anyone has thoughts on using CS4 to manage an online help system.  One aspect we are liking is the XHTML support, whereby we could use an xml parser to pull out pieces of content from the main help so that we can embed and dynamically display them in our application.  The downside seems that we would lose the indexing and searching of a tradition help system.
Anyway, any advice would be helpful.  We've used RoboHelp and it is a bit clunky and lacks a way to dynamically extract content.
    Thanks.

  • Files needed to be present to use HTML help and Web help

For using RoboHelp for word generated .hlp files, we kept
.hlp and .cnt files in the production environment for the users.
Now, we are planning to migrate to Robohelp for HTML help and
    gradually to WebHelp.
In that case what are the files that are required to be
    present in the production environment?

With HTML Help all you need to ship are the CHM files. That
is because these are compiled files that contain all the essential
ingredients to see and use the help. The only exception to this
rule is if you are using a glossary or browse sequences. In this
instance you'll need to ensure all your users have the
HHACTIVEX.DLL file installed on their PC. If they don't they won't
be able to see them. You cab get the install routine for your
application to install and register this file.
With regards to Webhelp, you'll need to publise all the files
generated by the compile. Part of the compile process is setting up
the location of the published files (e.g. Intranet, FTP). You don't
have to worry about what to publish. As long as you have your
location correctly defined all the files are copied there.
