Interchangeable batteries 1.33, 1.5GHz G4 12 inch

I'm about to get a second 12 inch G4, an upgrade from my 1.33Ghz machine. Are the batteries from the two models (1.5Ghz and 1.33GHz) interchangeable?
I'd like to use both for my new Powerbook, leaving the 1.33 machine at home on AC.
Any advice appreciated,
Regards,
Madcat

Thanks! That will help on roadtrips.
Cheers,
Madcat

  • Startup Chime Help; computer eats batteries

When I boot up my Aluminum PB G4 I do not hear a start-up chime. I read somewhere that this means my Mac is malfunctioning in some way, but I keep thinking I once found some way to shut off the start-up chime. What can I do here?
I am planning to reset the NVRAM and PRAM. I have the Open Firmware instructions, which will solve the problem that arises from not being to hear the start-up chime, but now I am wondering whether there might be some other problem that needs addressed. (the computer is having trouble charging a brand new battery after apparently eating the two original batteries within a month of each other)
Any ideas about the battery eating would also be welcome. It just seems like a big coincidence that they would both die at the same time. The computer works like brand new otherwise.
    Most humble advance thanks,
    Cam

Thanks. The startup chime doesn't really come and go. It was there one day and gone the next and its been gone for almost a year, I think.
I have two original batteries because I have two Powerbooks. They were both preowned, one, 1.5 GHz, in mint condition and the other, 1.25Ghz, I picked up for a song. I believe the batteries have been replaced during the recall, because neither of the serial numbers indicate they weren't. (if only) Yes, they were older batteries, but they were working at full capacity, lasting 2.5 to three hours each, and died really suddenly. Now its looking like neither computer will charge the new one during use.
This is what I am seeing now:
If second computer, (1.25GHz) is asleep without the battery, and I install the battery but don't wake the computer, the power adapter indicates it is charging. If I wake the computer up to check on the progress, then it stops charging. If I don't wake the computer, it will charge for a few minutes, but not fully.
I tried resetting the PMU on both machines, because that can cause strange behavior like this, but it doesn't seem to have worked on the 1.5GHz machine, because the date reset but not the time. (There was a period of time when I didn't have any working batteries and the 1.5GHz did not want to wake up from sleep.) I also tested and charged the backup batteries, too, because this started (with this battery) when my husband ran the battery down to reserve power and then it shut-down almost immediately.
A very ungracious tech at the authorized apple dealer also said that the batteries were just old, there is nothing wrong with the computer, but without giving him the machine and a wad of cash he refused to tell me anything else. Do they work on commission or something?
I can't keep buying new batteries, they are unreasonably expensive.

  • PowerBook G4 (17-inch 1.67 GHz), 1.5GH and cannot install OS X 10.5.6

Can someone assist me please? I have an old PowerBook G4 (17-inch 1.67 GHz, PowerPC) running with OS X 10.3.9 and I would like to update this to 10.5.6 from an original disk that was with a new macbook pro i purchased this spring. Yet, the old mac tells me I cannot update. I thought i meet all general requirements with the old machine. What am I missing?

All you have to do is buy the Upgrade disc package, and install as an update.
Make sure you clone your drive contents before upgrading. Use an external blank firewire drive and perform through disk utility. Make sure you boot your clone using firewire boot function to verify the clone is working. Sometimes it does not work. After that, simply upgrade your os using the retail upgrade disk. I have performed this taks with a g4 1.5ghz powerbook 12 inch. It runs very well on os 10.5.8.

  • Battery not recalled? ZZ345

I have 2 batteries for my Power Book G4 12 inch laptop. I just tried to order a replacement for both of them but one of them was rejected as not matching the list. I think it's the original one because it's marked c. 2003 whereas the matching one is c. 2004. (I bought the laptop in June 2004 and an extra battery shortly thereafter.) The Model No. is A1060, which doesn't seem to match the recall list, but the serial number is ZZ34531EPVEA which DOES match the recall list for 12-inch iBook G4 model A1061.
Should I worry about this battery too?
    Thanks.

Are you reading this charge from the Settings > About > Hardware?
Once it hits its maximum charge, please unplug the charging cable to the Z10 and quickly plug it back in again. Does the charging begin again AND show the charging symbol over the onscreen battery icon?

  • Macbook Pro Battery Update 1.2 Issues

Just installed the Battery Update 1.2 on my Macbook Pro and now when running off the battery, the system automatically shuts down when it reaches 35%. What kind of an update is this?
I didn't have any battery issues prior to installing the update, and simply updated thinking that maybe it might give me more battery life, and as it was official software, it would be rather innocuous - I was wrong.
Is there a way to reverting the software to its original state?
The battery has a cycle count of 89.

    Calibrating MacBook Pro batteries...
PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD), MacBook (all models), MacBook Pro (all models), and MacBook Pro (17-inch) (all models)
The battery calibration for the PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD) and any model of MacBook or MacBook Pro has been updated because of a new battery released with this computer. With these computers, follow these steps to calibrate your battery:
Plug in the power adapter and fully charge your PowerBook's battery until the light ring or LED on the power adapter plug changes to green and the onscreen meter in the menu bar indicates that the battery is fully charged.
Allow the battery to rest in the fully charged state for at least two hours. You may use your computer during this time as long as the adapter is plugged in.
Disconnect the power adapter with the computer still on and start running the computer off battery power. You may use your computer during this time. When your battery gets low, you will see the low battery warning dialog on the screen.
Continue to keep your computer on until it goes to sleep. Save all your work and close all applications when the battery gets very low, before the computer goes to sleep.
Turn off the computer or allow it to sleep for five hours or more.
Connect the power adapter and leave it connected until the battery is fully charged again.
Tip: When the battery reaches "empty", the computer is forced into sleep mode. The battery actually keeps back a reserve beyond "empty", to maintain the computer in sleep for a period of time. Once the battery is truly exhausted, the computer is forced to shut down. At this point, with the safe sleep function introduced in the PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD) computers, the computer's memory contents have been saved to the hard drive. When power is restored, the computer returns itself to its pre-sleep state using the safe sleep image on the hard drive.

  • A bit lost.

I can't seem to find the right forum to point this in, so I'll post it in this one and hope someone can redirect me.
I have a powerbook g4 14" 1.33 ghz powerpc. On the back of my laptop, the model reads A1055. I can't seem to find about it anywhere. I've been looking to replace my battery, but from the 8 sites I checked that sells batteries, they've each been either inconsistent (long story) or they didn't even have it listed. Even ebay didnt seem to offer my battery. Could anybody help me out? Thanks

Yeah, the batteries for the 14-inch iBooks are all the same size. Your iBook has this "family" number (which you WILL find in the list of compatible models from the battery you bought):
    -M9627LL/A -M9628LL/A
The first is the Combo Drive and the second is the SuperDrive version. As detailed here:
So, as long as you didn't buy the "14.4V" battery (ha ha) and got one of these two from the link I provided to you (Part Number: WCLPBAPIB14R or Part Number: W2AP84-- though I wonder why they have two different part numbers for their batteries when the description/title is the same), you should be fine.
(I said 14.4V battery since it was for the older iBooks, the weird-looking long batteries, which could be confused for "14-inch" iBook, just as a joke).

Of course, you could have bought an Apple OEM battery elsewhere (from someone who has it, like another reseller or even eBay), or one of those "NuPower" longer life batteries from a third party. I believe the one from the link I provided to you, mobiletechpower.com, is a third party battery. (Hope you knew that). I just pointed you to a company who had what you were looking for, one of many possible choices.

  • Are batteries interchangeable between 5th, 6th, and 7th gen iPod Classics?

I'm currently working on upgrading several 5th, 6th and 7th gen iPod Classics (or Videos in the 5th gen case) and I need to replace the batteries.  I'm wondering if the batteries are interchangeable.  I see when I look at them that all batteries have the same voltage and the same basic specs (some being lithium-ion and some lithium polymer).  One seller on Ebay lists them as interchangeable, although I'm not sure I trust them and I don't get the impression they speak clear English.  Also, if anyone wants to give their preference on the two types of battery (Li-Ion or Li-Poly), I'd be happy to hear that too.

The answer is rolling back to 10.10.1 from Time Machine. Doing that solved my problem.

  • Are 17" PowerBook and MacBook Pro batteries interchangeable?

I have a 17" PowerBook G4 1.33 MHz, with a spare battery. I'm now purchasing a new 17" MacBook Pro. Can I use the old G4 battery in the new MacBook Pro?
(I assume the answer is "no," but just thought I'd ask...)

    No.

  • 1.5GHz upper case on a 1.67 GHz?

    Dear Apple Discussions,
the upper case for my 1.67 GHz (High Res.) PowerBook G4 has some cosmetic damage. I was wondering if I could replace it with the upper case of a 1.5 GHz PowerBook G4?
The main concern I have is in regards to the trackpad not working since I vaguely remember reading Apple changed manufacturers (which is why the third party iScroll would not work on my machine).
    Any thoughts would be appreciated

The high-res PowerBook G4 1.67GHz utilizes a different top case according to a dealer on eBay that specializes in Mac parts. I bought something from him recently and asked him about the top cases for the PowerBooks and he says that the 1.67GHz top case has different circuitry.
The top case for the 1.5GHz/1.67GHz (models A1106) are interchangeable. I bought one of these for my 1.5GHz that I'm typing from right now. But these can't be used on the high-res 1.67GHz (and can't be used on earlier 1.5GHz or previous models). This is the info I have:
    A1106 (1.5GHz/1.67GHz)
Apple Part No. 922-6920, Assembly No. 620-3030
    A1138 (1.67GHz HR DLSD)
Apple Part No. 922-6920, Assembly No. 620-3273

Also, I found this "more reliable" info from iFixIt.com who also points out that there are two different case parts for the two machines, though the part no. is different.

Also, just to note, the keyboards are different as well. This one I learned first-hand after buying a brand new keyboard for my 15-incher and it belonged to the high-res 1.67GHz model, to my dismay. (The seller noted the wrong part no.-- he said it was for the 1.5GHz/1.67GHz models, and when I cross referenced that part no. on Google, I found it belonged to the high-res 1.67GHz)

  • Logic boards interchangeable?

I am an Apple Certified Macintosh Technician, but my company is not an Apple Authorized Service Provider, so I can't get this answer from Apple.
A client has a Mac Mini Early 2006 1.66GHz with a faulty logic board. The repair manual lists a half-dozen board numbers, from 1.5GHz to 2.0GHz. The instructions for replacing the logic board say nothing about differences depending on which board you are replacing. Am I correct in assuming that the boards are interchangeable? The client may decide to pop for a 2.0GHz board for the incremental cost.

all logicboards in the manual Mac Mini Early 2006 will work. (But not the logic boards for more recent mac minis of course)

  • PowerBook 15" 1.5GHz USB 2.0 power issue

I have a 15" 1.5 GHz USB 2.0 2MB Ram PowerBook just upgraded to Leopard October 27, 07. Now the problem. Screen turned black and the computer shut down and started making a high pitched whine. I disconnected the power and it went quiet. Started up from the battery and all was fine, plugged in the power it started to whine but stayed on. I then pulled the battery and it stayed on with no whine. I thought OK it is an old battery that didn't hold a charge and was due for replacement. Borrowed a friends old battery that still had some life in it with the same result as with my battery. OK both batteries were at a state to cause this so I ordered a new battery. Then I took it to the Apple store to see what they thought. They decided it was the logic board and as the machine was out of warranty it would cost about 800.00 to repair. My thought was that the dc-dc board had fried but have yet to find one for this model.
The Machine still runs fine using AC or battery but both can't coexist and the battery discharges.
I am looking for ideas and input as my wife really likes this machine. We are thinking of a replacement off eBay and maybe swapping parts.

Seasons greetings and welcome to the Apple discussions.
On the 1.5Ghz Powerbook, I believe the DC-in card connects directly to the logic board, unlike the 12" PB that has a dc-to-dc card. One source for a replacement DC-in card is at http://pbparts.com (http://www.ifixit.com was out of stock, however, you probably know they have guides to show you how to do the replacement).

  • Lenovo T420 - Batteries

I've just bought a refurbished Lenovo T420. The specs include an Intel i5- 2520m processor, 2.50GHZ CPU, 8GB of RAM and 500GB HDD.
The reviews I've read are excellent, but they all praise the battery life of the 9 celled T420 (10 hours battery life, hard to beat etc.), but the T420 I've bought is 6 celled - Can anyone tell me what the battery life of the 6 celled T420 is?
Also, whether the 6 celled battery is interchangeable with a 9 celled variant if I wanted to purchase one in the future (and which 9 celled batter to purchase).
    Thank you for reading.

Hi there, all T420 and T420i laptops use the same type battery. (T420s and T420si models use a different battery). You simply need to look for battery "70++" which is the 9-cell version for your T420. (70+ is the 6-cell version). Useful battery guide provided by Lenovo here:
Batteries and Battery Charger - Reference Guide
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-4TCMN7
When shopping for batteries it's best to get a Genuine Lenovo battery whenever possible. The after-market, replacement batteries are often of inferior quality, and often not held to the same safety standards during the manufacturing process as the O.E.M. batteries. They may even cause your laptop to overheat, or behave erratically. T420 system service parts has a few FRU P/N (part numbers) for the 9-cell battery but is a bit outdated in listing "55++" model numbers. While "55++" batteries will fit, they have been superseded/ replaced by the more newly manufactured "70++" batteries. See my post here for a slight elaboration on that: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/Battery-failed-with-99-capacity/m-p/1614594...
So just look for a Genuine Lenovo battery with the "70++" red dot logo and you will be OK.  Some unscrupulous Hong Kong or Chinese vendors regularly counterfeit/ sell "knock-off" (fake) batteries even using the Lenovo logo so be careful. Here is a picture of a New, Genuine 70++ battery I recently shipped to a customer:

  • Difference between the s9/s10 batteries and the s10e battery?

Lenovo sells the S10e 6 cell battery for $129, yet sells the s9/10 6 cell battery for $89.
What's the difference?  From what I've read the S10 battery will work perfectly in the S10e.
Why would anyone want to pay the extra $40 for an "e" battery???
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

As far as I know and from feedback from other users in the Forum, both the batteries are exactly the same physically and are interchangeable for the S10/S10e/S9/S9e. The difference is the make of the battery - the more expensive one is made by Sanyo while the cheaper one is by Celxpert. You can read about this in another thread here. My S10 came with the Celxpert 6 cell battery and it seems OK so far.

  • Tecra M5/M9: Are the batteries compatible?

I run both of these models and occasionally get caught out with a flat battery. J
ust wondering if the batteries are interchangeable between the two they appear to have the same shape and output?
    Thanks

Well, according to the Toshibas Options & Accessories website the both machines would supports the same battery which is a Battery Pack PA3509U-1BRM.
    Tecra M9 supports:
    Battery Pack (Li-Ion, 5100mAh, 6 Cell) PA3588U-1BRS
    Extended Capacity Battery Pack (Li-Ion, 7050mAh, 9 Cell) PA3509U-1BRM
    Tecra M5 supports:
    Extended Capacity Battery Pack (Li-Ion, 7050mAh, 9 Cell) PA3509U-1BRM
So as you can see you can use a PA3509U-1BRM battery in both notebooks

Not sure of the full spec as it's not starting right now, but purchased in 2006 (last of PPC) Quad core 4 x 2.5GHz I have 6 GB RAM - 2x1GB original 2x2GB added.
Use it in line with my new iMac mainly for checking e-mails and a few other menial tasks (plus for some old software tasks) Has been a bit flaky recently sometimes starts, sometimes goes fan crazy during startup and the two red lights come on behind the cheese grater housing (mid LHS front by the power button).
Over the last couple of days it's become unusable. Either does not start in 20 goes (even with long rests between times.
If it does start can't get anything done before it crashes. Rinse and repeat!
Please be aware that I'm not at all IT orientated but have taken it apart and cleaned out the dust with a blower and PC battery hoover. Does not seem to be any leaks from the cooling system either.

Read something about trying the machine with pairs removed to find if one pair is the culprit or something. Is this as simple as it sounds?
Pretty much so, you just have to be sure they're is one opposing pair, 1 with 1, 2 with 2, etc...
    4-3-2-1*-1-2-3-4
Sometimes it needs the inner slots filled.
Read something about a battery I can change (PRAM), are these batteries generally available, is this simple to do and worth a try?
    Yes & Yes.
Might be time to replace the PRAM Battery, 4 years is close to their lifespan, far less if ever without AC power, & can cause strange startup problems...
