Welcome to Apple Discussions jns0319!
There are several lengthy threads already going in this discussion board about the benefits of iBook 12" vs. 14", and the usefulness of iBooks for students. If you scroll down through the titles on this main page I'm sure you'll find a thread where other users have already discussed at length their opinions about the iBook and how useful it is for students. You can also use the handy search box at the top right to put in some terms, like "iBook for students" to bring up threads with material related to what you're looking for.
If you have some more specific questions about the iBook and Usage after you have read through the already posted discussions, please let us know!

  • ITunes 9.2 XML file does NOT contain any iBooks information

I have a little script that I have that generates a webpage to list what is in my iTunes library. I noticed that the XML file does not contain ANY information about iBooks or PDFs that you import. Any idea why that is? If my main library file gets corrupt, and I have to use the XML file to rebuild, I would lose all the iBook information....
Seems like a oversight by the iTunes people

why did Apple even make an XML file in the first place as initially most things in iTunes (following your logic) would be purchases from the iTunes store.
Incorrect. The existence and use of iTunes significantly predates the existence of the iTunes Store. iTunes was initially designed to get its content from CDs. The XML file was for use by other apps such as iMovie or third-party apps to have access to the iTunes library so as to be able to locate tracks and playlists for use in the app.
Anyway, I'm not interested in arguing with you about the matter.
Apple, plus put iBooks stuff in the XML file!

Hello, we are interested in more information on the Image Size > Fit To option in phototshop.  For example, if we open a 46x25 inch 120 dpi image and choose Fit to 4x6" does all of the resolution remain?  Any links to tutorials in this area are appreciated.

Let's look at the first thing: Aspect Ratio  46W x 25H does not fit 6W x 4H exactly. You get 6W x 3.621H If we preserve Landscape Orientation and Aspect Ratio. If I set H to 4, W will be 7.36 inches, clipping your picture.
You'll have to decide on how to clip off that 1.36 inches so your picture can be 4 x 6 in order to solve that problem.
Notice I set Resample off. Throwing out pixels is destructive editing. So what I am doing is "Scaling", changing the Print Size without touch the pixels. Notice how high the resolution goes up.
To Resample or not will be your decision.  I hope I answered your questions properly. Let me know otherwise.

  • I changed jobs and purchased a new iPhone I  no longer have any of my iBook information. My Apple account and name has changed is there any way to get the info I had in iBooks to my new phone under my new account?

I changed jobs and bought a new phone. I would like to get my iBooks info on my new phone but it is under my old account. When I try to log in under the old account i get a message that I will not be able to log back onto my new account for a period of time. HOw do i get the information from my old account over to my new account?

You can't currently transfer purchases/downloads from one account to another account.
When you download past purchases from an account then you will potentially tie the device (or computer if you do it on that) to that account for 90 days : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627
Have you got the ibooks already on your computer and/or on a backup so that you can sync them to your new iPhone ? If not then have you bought anything on your new account yet - could you go back to just using the old account ?

  • IBooks app retaining old .ibooks information after newer version of file is added to app

The title pretty much says it all.  When creating a file in iBooks author, then exporting it to say, the desktop, as an .ibooks file - then adding that to the iBooks app on the iPad in iOS 7, it reads fine and everything looks great.
Going back to that same project in iBooks author, revising it, then exporting it to the desktop (with and without different revision levels and titles), then importing it into iBooks on the iPad results in the existing file opening up on the iPad with none of the changes acknowledged.
If you first *remove* the original file from iBooks on the iPad, then import the new file you're fine - but for some reason the iBooks app doesn't acknowledge the revision update otherwise (this is for a non profit title not being distributed through the store).  We've tried this on three different computers and iPads, all with the same results.  Any ideas as to why this is?
    Thanks!

If you first *remove* the original file from iBooks on the iPad, then import the new file you're fine
You've just correctly defined the process for your example. The 'update' process that is quoted by Apple applies to store distribution.
If you can't rely on your users to delete the old version when you release a new version, don't version-update a given book - instead, publish editions...unique books in a series. myBook 1; myBook 2; myBook 3, etc.

  • Steps for saving Information in URDU usig UTF8

    Hell all
Can anyone please let me know the steps regarding following:
I am interested to save information in URDU language through forms and also then output in Reports with same language (URDU).
    Thanking you in advance.
    Saeed Iqbal

    Sorry for my English.
Our appliocation uses Forms 6.0.8.25.2 (client-server) with NLS_LANG=UTF8 both on the server and client side. So we can store information in Eglish,Russian and Greek languages at the same time.
There are some bugs in Forms regarding UTF8, but there is not anything critical and as a matter of fact Forms works quite well.
The only thing you should do on the client is to set NLS_LANG and recompile your application (PLL,FMB,MNB).
Of course, it is not so easy :=), because some piece of code may work in different manner (for instance: TEXT_IO, ORA_FFI, DDE packages etc).
All information regarding Oracle Server you can find out at Oracle documentation. For instance:
    Oracle8i National Language Support Guide

  • SiteVisit/Information Request for Customizing Time Entry/Approval on ESS

Our organization is considering adding Time Entry & Time Approval to our Employee Self Service.  The portal was just upgraded from EP6 to BW7.0 (our system is ECC 6.0). We currently use ESS for employee paystubs, benefits enrollment, membership campaigns, updating master data (address, bank information) and more.
We are looking for a Public Sector organization that has done Time Entry on ESS that would be interested in allowing us to do a site visit to gather information, ask questions and see your system.  Please contact me if you are interested.
Also, even if you are not public sector, I am interested in any information about the ability to customize this functionality. We have the timesheet option up and running in ESS (in test) and I can enter time and it shows up in CAPS, but it needs to be customized to meet our needs. If you have done customization, I would love to see what your timesheets look like.
Most importantly we are looking for a site visit to gather information, but also any information about customizing the ESS timesheet would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my request.

I did not have any responses, but we no longer have the need. Thanks.

  • IBooks "Couldn't communicate with a helper application"

    Hi,
I just did a clean install of Mavericks on my iMac and am trying to use iBooks.
I was able to do an initial open of the application.  However, once I tried to import any PDFs and EPUBS, iBooks quit and I've haven't been able to restart the program.  Every time I relaunch the application, it shutsdown and then I get a message that says, "Couldn't communicate with a helper application".
I've searched the forums and found a few things but all the solutions suggested talk about doing some terminal commands to reset some ACL and permissions.  I tried these suggestions to no avail.
    Anyone have any ideas?

I tried my luck and it actually got my iBooks working again.
When you add a PDF, it starts a process in background called "com.apple.BKAgentService". I think that this process scans your PDF, gathers some data interesting to iBooks and puts it into a local database. It is wrong for this process to run in the background because it uses lots of resources and really affects other applications (i.e. its hard to type here because my mac lags behind me typing), and iBooks do not show any signs of background activity. Because you do not get an immediate confirmation that some actions are taking place, you try to import those files again.. and again. And after some time you decide to kill iBooks app, because it became unresponsive. And this is how you break local database files
I got it working for me. I am not responsible if these actions break something for you, do it at your own risk. After deleting those files my library was still intact, it only had to be rebuilt (i.e. cover images showed up only after a few seconds when iBooks finally started).
What I did to fix this is deleting of these broken files:
    1) kill/close iBooks app, if it's still open and broken
    2) delete these folders:
To be specific, these folders are:
    /Users/YOUR_USERNAME/Library/Containers/com.apple.iBooksX/Data/Library/Caches/co m.apple.ibooks
    /Users/YOUR_USERNAME/Library/Containers/com.apple.iBooksX/Data/Library/Caches/co m.apple.iBooksX
    3) start iBooks

  • Interest AP invoice - populate the Project Task

If you are calculating interest on- late invoices in 11.5.10. Is it possible to have AP populate Project and Task on an interest interest invoice using information from the overdue invoice?
    Does this change in R12?
    Thank you
    Edited by: user547280 on Feb 20, 2013 5:20 AM

    Hi
There is no way to fund the lowest tasks.
You cannot generate invoice with invoice lines per lowest level tasks, using standard functionality.
Assuming your billing is based on WORK, you could customize the Invoice Format to summarize RDL's by lowest task level.
However, if you need hard limit control by lowest task level you will need to capture the allocation of fund to tasks. That could be done on a revenue budget you maintain by lowest level tasks. In addition, develop billing extension called during GDI that will perform the fund check for each task.

  • Help me with this iBook!!!! Please.

    Hi everyone,
I am new to Apple Discussions and am having a issue ; I received a iBook notebook with running 10.1.5 ; I noticed Internet Explorer ( not safari ) which after reading up on, apparently was stopped as of 2005. I looked when the last update was completed on this iBook and it was 2004/2005.
There are a few things I wish to do; but am running into issues.
1- I want to reset back to how it 'once' was.  Issue with this is I do not have any disks for it. I only recieved it with usb mouse/tv adapter/wall plug. So no 'boot' disk. I heard there are ways around this ( considering the iBooks age ) vs. how it was before.
2- I wish to update all software/hardware to as new as possible. Issue with this is ; it's my first Mac OS. So honestly I have no idea how or what to do.
3- find where in the system I can find out all of this iBooks information ( which is OS it runs, what the ram is, what the hdd space is; basically all the specs )
I know this Mac has a lot of history.  I just hope someone can come to my rescue.
I will be completely honest ; please use as "dummified" language as possible.  I am no good with computers.  I have always been a pc fan ( except I love my iPhone ).
Anything anyone can do would be most helpful.  I know with this being a older device not all the data is easily found.  I am willing to download a install disk to a USB drive if needed.
Since I directly can't find the specs for this iBook I did find the -easily found- 'about this Mac' and it is the following :
    Mac OS X
    Version 10.1.5
    Memory 256 MB
    Processor PowerPC G3
    Apple computer inc. 1983-2001
    If that helps at all.
    Thanks,
    Justin - Poser Punx

    Hi Justin,
1- I want to reset back to how it 'once' was.  Issue with this is I do not have any disks for it. ... So no 'boot' disk.
That's a show stopper right there.
You can revert an iBook to its originally shipped condition without its original installation discs, but to do so would require another boot device containing its original installation disc image. Apple may be able to sell you a copy but may not give you the time of day without paying a modest fee for technical support. Given these challenges I don't recommend even attempting to revert that Mac to its originally shipped condition.
It's a shame to dishonor its tenth anniversary with this comment, but OS X 10.1.5 is, frankly, horrible. You ought to be able to upgrade it to Tiger, and original Tiger discs are available on the used market. They are not cheap. You will need the retail version which is distinguished with a big X on a black background - grey discs are machine-specific and will not work.
The earliest iBooks can only be upgraded to Panther.
Your first task is to identify the exact hardware model. Click the  menu and select "About this Mac..." or words to that effect. There may be a "More Info..." button in that window. If there is click it and see if you can find out there. I don't recall what its nomenclature was with OS X 10.1. I've been trying to suppress those memories.

  • IBook Indigo Clamshell & OSx 10.4

    Hi All
Just got this iBook G3/366 Indigo Clamshell - Firewire - It came with out an operating system. I was able to purchase from eBay a set of cd's for the iBook - Software Restore Disk, iBook Software Install v 9.1 and Mac OS X 10.0.3. The iBook run's OK now but what I want to do is to up grade to 10.4.xx.
As this iBook came with just the CD Rom I am trying to use my iMac as a 'Hard Drive' via the firewire cable - this I have done between an iMac & eMac - The version of Tiger I have is 'MACOSXv10.4.6RTL' It say's that I can run up to x10.4.11 - That came from http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ibook/stats/ibook_366.html
Question - How can I install the 10.4.xx version of OS X on to this iBook.
The iBook only has 64mb RAM, this I will be upgrading.
    Regards
    Lee

    I havn't tried the firewire installation from a G4 to a G3 Clamshell yet.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661?viewlocale=en_US
Start you Clamshell and press T, to start into firewire mode, hook it up to your emac and boot from the eMac DVD drive. The installation programm shows up your eMac HD and the Clamshell HD (orange icon) as the target - choose the iBook HD.
When you plan to upgrade your Clamshell, it might be a better option to place a DVD ROM drive instead of the CD-ROM. Even the 366MHZ firewire Clamshells are able to play DVD movies.
If the installation fails from the G4, try a external DVD firewire drive for the Tiger DVD.
Interesting: The iBook is able to boot from some USB DVD drives. Indeed, my 300MHZ Blueberry iBook booted via USB from a Philipps LightScribe DVD-burner which is in an external 5.25 " NoName enclosure with USB and FireWire ports which has a Polific PL-3507 chipset.

  • Does leopard run on ibook g4

hi what does an ibook g4 need to run osx leopard

    Hi Ronda,
I managed to get hold of Kappy to thank him for his input into my problem and I am glad to say I have now found you. Look, when you don't often visit "Communities" it's not always easy picking up where you left off and I have found getting here somewhat circular (me no doubt!) . So many thanks.
I think Communities support is great. I used to frequent Communities, but that was quite a while back now, but I find it as good now as ever.
On the topic of iBook and Leopard, the computer we were discussing re discussing changing the name of the Home folder, that was and is an iBook G4, (2005/6). It came to me when I bought it running Leopard and from what I gathered from the seller was that the "discs" had been lost and they were OS X 10.5.x discs. I guess I took it for granted that they came with the computer when he bought it new.
The previous owner no doubt purchased "upgrade" discs to run Leopard.
The big issue is can iBook run Leopard?  The answer is yes if the iBook is a G4 2005. The G4 2004 won't do.
Here is a quote from EveryMac.com
    <  http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ibook/stats/ibook_g4_1.33_12.html >:
The "Mid-2005" iBook G4 models use the same external housings as the earlier iBook G4 models, but otherwise these systems are quite different. When compared to the iBook G4/1.2 12-Inch (Late 2004) that it replaced, the iBook G4/1.33 12-Inch (Mid-2005) has a faster processor, twice the amount and faster RAM (512 MB compared to 256 MB of onboard memory), superior graphics, a larger hard drive (40 GB compared to 30 GB), and built-in Bluetooth 2.0+EDR as well as AirPort Extreme (802.11g).
What follows thereafter is an exhaustive layout of the iBook G4 2005-2006 specs. If you are interested in iBooks at least pay EveryMac a visit.
By the way Ronda, I stand corrected, you are right (dare I say as always?), the iBook G4 came pre-installed with Tiger not Leopard, namely: Mac OS X 10.4.2 (8D37).
I understand, however, the purchaser would be told right then on the spot that she or he could get Leopard install discs for that particular iBook G4 2005, if they so wished. If you bought online and wanted an upgrade they would upgrade the OS, memory, whatever. But the standard pre install (as opposed to customized) is as you have so correctly stated.
Wikipedia cites Apple < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mac_OS_X_Leopard > for the specs required for running Leopard:
Apple states the following basic Leopard system requirements, although, for some specific applications and actions (such as iChat backdrops) an Intel processor is required:[52]
Processor must be any Intel, PowerPC G5 or G4 (867 MHz and faster)
DVD drive (for installation of the operating system)
At least 512 MB of RAM (additional RAM (1 GB) is recommended for development purposes)
At least 9 GB of disk space available.
Not much left to discuss, I would say.  :- )
    Cheers,
    Gareth
